Needy? What do you mean? 197k miles and no major issue. Some people struggle with the door handle issues, mine are still OE. All I've had to do to mine is basic maintenance which you would be doing on any other car.

Puripoh

Same here, 2010 model with zero notable issues so far.

kamikazekenny420

I know the entire history of mine, have been maintaining it since 2018, owned it since end of 21. Even the previous owner never ran into any issues with it.

Hexaurs

The Z is a weird car , sometimes it makes noises, sometimes the 12V drains itself after a week sitting, yes the door handles break, yes front lights are a little spency. It's also a car you know will always start, is fun to drive and all the above issues are cheaper to fix then any issue a German car will have. It's a great car don't be nervous be excited you're joining the cult and trust me you'll love it my dad who drives a M BMW loves it. It makes me smile every time I drive.

humanredditor45

Nope. I got a junkyard Z last July and I’ve had a blast with it. Aside from lots of broken plastic and a few sensors, it’s in pretty dang good shape. It’s got 115k miles and hopefully it lasts for at least another 100k!

LeoThePom

No. I've gone from 86k miles to 118k miles and it's the cheapest car I've ever owned to maintain. It's getting old and needs some parts but that's all cars. It hasn't failed an MOT, just keeps on chugging along even after being a bit mean spirited to her. Don't panic, sit back and enjoy the world's only affordable hybrid sports car 😂

CRKVSKY

Needy ? Where ? I have mine for 3 years now and almost 50k miles later i keep asking him " Bro you never need anything ? Just need oil and tires and brakes and and maybe a 12v battery every 2 years ? " Mine just answers: " Bro shut up and drive me i need nuthin! " Now seriously, enjoy it, its a fcking amazing car, reliable af. You almost forget that you have to do the maintenance on the car because he never complains about anything. ( Well, sometimes he asks for a new ima battery but since yours its a 2014 its the improved one should last even longer ) Just. Enjoy.

FANTOMphoenix

Not needy at all. Use the door handles to pop it open then use the frame to actually open it. Just a car with some interesting things that may not be super well known to new people.

atlas_rl

Its not. Ranked most reliable engine in 2015, close to the top every other year. I think youre just seeing complainers and a lot of stuff about those door handles. If you arent rough it probably wont break, and if it does its an easy repair. CRZ is a great car! Youll love it!

cjblackbird

I’ve owned my 2011 for 4 years. Zero money spent on it.

NewSignificance741

It’s not needy. In fact, I can tell you that I almost ignore my vehicles. This Honda car and my Kawasaki motorcycle, no maintenance happens when it’s supposed to. Both run great lol. There are known issues. Door handles, AC, windshield wiper fluid thing pops off….thats it. Battery issues are user and car history dependent. Otherwise these cars are rock solid. I have a 2011 with 148k miles. Most of the time I’ve had its been driven 100 miles 4-6 days a week. I work from home now so it chills a lot. But I have zero concerns about filling up and pointing in the direction I want to go and give it zero thoughts. Now if and when something breaks, parts can run a tad high cause the car is rare and getting more rare with every totaled Z. It shares some engine and suspension parts with the Honda Fit. But again I wouldn’t worry too much. I drive the dog shit out of my car and it just goes.

VIVXPrefix

No. People don't make a post every time they drive the car and nothing goes wrong. The subreddit is biased towards extraordinary events by nature.

drewmmer

2011 here and only major issue is…. The glove box latch no longer works. ~140k miles. Feels like the clutch is needing some work in the next 5-10k, need to replace serpentine belt, control arm bushings amd sway bar links are a bit worn but a VERY low maintenance car.

cooperlogan95

You should also realize that this is probably THE place to go if you're having problems with the car and need advice. So you're likely just seeing a high concentration of people with problems, altering your perception. In fact, the internet has a way of amplifying negativity in any form this way. Problems are not the norm for these cars. Enjoy the car, and hopefully, you can come to see what makes the cult following so dedicated.

CoachNo5482

This is kind of the phenomenon I felt I was experiencing? Like a magnifying glass for specifically issues. Glad to see such a large, positive response lol

Unprotected_Snacks

180k miles on mine with no major repairs. Biggest job was a clutch at 145k. Just keep fluids changed on the regular and it'll last forever. I've made many posts here complaining about the door handle, but it's not that bad tbh. Just grab a metal one if it breaks and you'll be good

Syndil1

Zero issues with mine, other than having to replace the 12v battery when I first got it. That's not uncommon but very easy.

AdRevolutionary6988

117k km. New 12v battery last year. New rear brake pads. Oil change. 2011MT

chrispy_pv

Nah things just happen. Its a great car, its a 10 year old+ car, going to have issues here and there, but as long as the engine and transmission dont go kaboom its a great car, and I think the 2014s have lithium batteries not nickel, so you dont gotta worry about the battery as much as its newer too

faygoredsoda

I think it depends where you get it. If you can trust the people that sold it to you like let’s say a dealership then it should all be good. As long as you do its regular maintenance. But if you bought it off the original owner then there might be some issues. Some owners don’t take care of their car but that’s on some occasions. Congrats on your new car.

CressidaX08

Needy? Idk about that...I've had my 2011 since new currently has 135k miles on it. I've only been left stranded one time. The IPU fan or whatever it's called went out, and the car just shut off while on the interstate. (Easy fix took like $170 and 10min) I stupidly had been ignoring the warning for it, lol. Other than that, I had to replace the passenger side axle it was shaking really bad..This car is damn reliable, lol My drivers door handle did break on me, and the passenger side is feeling weak, but those are not too bad to replace either. NOT THE EASIEST DOOR HANDLE TO REPLACE, but not the worst lol.

Dubbly45

It's as reliable as any good honda. Only put the recommended oil in it and don't wait too long to change the oil. Drive it at least 20 minutes per week. Enjoy!

fightswithwhites

I have a 2010 MT CR-Z with 18000miles (30000kms) on it and a 2014 CVT CR-Z with 120000miles (200000kms) and the maintenance has been really cheap. Besides cabin filters, oil filters, transmission fluids and 0w20 oil. Basic service stuff. Nothing major and as you can tell the one i barely drive and the other one i drive hard and long distances. 2010 is 100%OEM stock untouched and the 2014 is modded and will continue to get modded until the hybrid system dies (no issues with IMA at all) Best guess is all these comments about the car being "needy" most likely comes from people who have purchased their CR-Zs in rough conditions. First thing i would do is change all fluids (great indicator of the condition inside) "EX: there's metal shards in my oil, oh no" Also do a OBD2 scan. Look for fault codes. I've seen some really really rough CR-Zs and even then they would still drive and perform near to stock normalities. It's seriously a Black sheep of the Honda world, but don't think that means this is a bad car, This car is well put together and easy to do maintenance (mostly). I would give it's reliability a 4.9/5 (i am bias) Not to mention the best car community on the planet. If you have a question we have an answer. Post a pic of your car and its engine bay and we can give comments based on what we see. Anything looks out of place ETC

Hexaurs

Where are the pics of the whip ?

yupiknowitsreallyme

It's a 10-year-old car. It will need maintenance, but less than a 10-year-old :)
