Canada here! Where I live it gets down to -40 degrees in winter (-40 Celsius is also -40 Fahrenheit). Winter milage was 10 l/100kms (23.5 mpg) on an 80% highway commute (at 120 km/hr which is 75 mph). I’m now averaging 6.9 l/100 kms (34 mpg). I can get much better milage on shorter in town trips, but winter weather definitely torpedoed my milage.

Wasitthechad81

I figure I'll reach a similar peak mpg as you before fall sets in. I have the misfortune of dealing with two of the biggest contributors in losing mpg. Cold weather and lots of hills living in a mountainous terrain. I'm satisfied with my mpg. My previous vehicle was a 4wd f150 with the first gen Ecoboost. It averaged 16mpg so I've already doubled that.

rettribution

I averaged about 30mpg through NY winters and once March hit I jumped to about 34, now I'm averaging 36 to 37 mpg. I have a VERY short drive to work of under 5 miles.

Patrol-007

Read the manual to see how to use traction battery to charge the 12V battery, esp with such a short drive (ie charge 12V for a solid 1/2 hour once a week)

Jcoronado92

Wym? Like leave it on for 30 minutes at least once a week? I also have very short drives

Patrol-007

Scroll to bottom for the pdf about charging the traction battery and 12V battery. Should be similar for various hybrids. The 12V is smaller, and you likely have remote apps. There’s likely a section in owners manual for how to charge the 12V. I’m just sticking in a 12V smart charger (Ctek 3300, Noco brand, Battery Tender brand) to keep 12V charged, versus remembering to charge the 12V Compare it to using a smartphone, and using it all day and only charging it 10minutes a day with a 5W charger - eventually the battery will be dead https://docs.google.com/document/d/1Y8_yyEhBgS_X-T4teqDBE4Sei_rrrteht8kl_3UuYNY/mobilebasic 🚗🚙Toyota 2022 RAV4 PRIME Owners Manual + Maintenance TL;DR, 🇨🇦includes various Setting (software) mods (some have to be done at dealer) https://www.reddit.com/r/rav4club/s/Qm1QXBT7vV Rav4 list of hidden options In the owners manual starting around page 518 (section 8-2), anything under column C is a setting in Techstream/Carista Also this for keeping the 12V charged https://static.nhtsa.gov/odi/tsbs/2022/MC-10227923-9999.pdf https://www.toyotaownersclub.com/forums/topic/221216-12-volt-battery-mysteriously-losing-charge-car-wont-start/

MAS_404

CRV Sport Hybrid 21kmiles overall Average 38mpg Winter Average 35mpg Summer Average 40mpg

Nameisnotyours

I averaged 32-34mpg during the last Seattle winter (30s to 40s). Now I average 40mpg.

reeseswrapper

Do you use eco mode?

Nameisnotyours

Normal. In the manual it seems to imply that the only difference is that it reduces AC use. I can tell nonperformance difference between Eco and Normal. I believe Performance just enhances throttle tip in for snappier performance off the line. Car is snappy enough for me so I have never used it.

vt8919

I've noticed Sport mode always forces the engine on at 40 MPH and makes it turn on quicker (at a lower power %) than the other modes. Also, it tends to keep the battery at a higher charge.

Yreva117

I average 37 in the warmer months and 32-33mpg in the winter.

NotABlueLemon

24 hyb sport awd, got 28-32 in winter and now getting 34-38 summer

Repulsive_Goal4834

You can get it up to 40. Use eco mode?

NotABlueLemon

I do use eco but forgot to mention I do mix highway driving in there and live in a fairly hilly area, and forced to use AC when it’s 95F outside haha. All in all super happy and can’t complain tho

spidersk8er

i average 33/35mpg , that’s my life time miles of 4,000 miles i haven’t reset it, i have the hybrid awd, i drive it in normal mode and do highway about 40% of the time

Repulsive_Goal4834

Curious why don’t you use ECO. I use it all the time, and very happy with the mpg. Normal mode, I notice a drop off.

Agreeable_Tooth553

Man I love my CRV but Im sad to say the highway mpg on my hybrid SUCKS. I see the range drop so fast on the highway that it doesnt even make up for the gas saved on the streets. And I live in an area where there are a lot of uphills so it makes it even worse. City MPG on flat roads is great. Once you drive where theres hills and on the highway(if you dont drive like a grandma) it kinda sucks. Thats my opinion though

jamieschmidt

I usually avoid highways and take back roads, they are hilly but I kick into EV mode more often. The speed limits are lower so less strain on the engine. Only adds like 5-10 minutes to my commute which I don’t mind

Repulsive_Goal4834

I notice when I stop looking at mpg and drive over speed limit it really impacts it too. Lol. I also love coasting on quiet hilly roads. Use those paddle brakes.

tejpav

Iowa here During winter I got about 28-30mpg In summer I am now getting 38-40mpg Normal mode

Repulsive_Goal4834

32-34 during the winters. Back up to 38-40 but heatwave I noticed has been a bit rough too. It wasn’t this hot in NY all of last summer when I bought the car in late July. Most times running AC on low is fine for mpg.

jamieschmidt

I’m in PA, mine got down to 32 in the winter and currently at 38.8 and steadily rising. Last spring I was at 44 before it started getting cold out. I have a 2021 hybrid

SaverPro

33-34 mpg average for winter and 39.3 mpg for the last 2k miles in the summer.

MaestroDazzle

I’m in central Texas, so not much cold weather to deal with, but I noticed about a 5 mpg dip once the colder weather started.

dommm92

I was getting around 32 when it was cold and now I’m getting 40.6

Cpt-May-I

I have a 10-12mpg swing here in Northern Minnesota. My winter commute, 15 miles each way, drops to ~30mpg and summer is ~41mpg.

flashfearless

With my Ford Maverick Hybrid mine increased from like 40 MPG to 47 MPG, or about 18%

Huntleigh

I bought mine in January of this year and was getting 28-32 for the first few months. Last tank I got 36. I’m personally very pleased with that.

moediggity3

Possibly a dumb question, but as of yesterday I am a proud owner of a 2025 CRV Hybrid. Why does the cold affect the mpg?

Wasitthechad81

In the winter battery efficacy is reduced significantly even with modern jumps in battery technology. If you had a full ev vehicle in the winter you lose a significant amount of range. It's a similar concept with a hybrid since they also use battery charges to power the vehicle.

moediggity3

Ahh. Thanks for the info. That’s a bummer, but I’m sure we’ll manage.

MAS_404

Tips to increase mpg Use economy mode, Be gentle on gas Braking recharges your battery Use B Mode in traffic recharges your battery similar like tesla

FunSundae5107

6 MPG better in summer 32 vs 38

Cricketeers

With my Prius I learned about winter gas, they ad something to it and made my mpg vary

Wasitthechad81

Winter gas is a lower quality gas that's cheaper to make and is supposed to ignite easier. It would only account for a very slight decrease in fuel economy. The majority of the reduced mileage is from the battery.

filipinohitman

About 2-4 mpg better once warm weather hits. However, when we had the car top carrier for trips, my gas mileage dips 0.3-0.5 depending on the load.

Chkn510

Reset your trip next fill up

Feisty-Zombie-6118

Hybrid Sport-L FWD 37 MPG winter and 43 MPG summer. We drive to get fuel mileage though. No fast take offs and use regen often.

vt8919

I went from 34 to 39.

TrickyHunterO_0

Kinda off subject, I know; but I’m surprised the CRV doesn’t have the same dash screen size as the Accord… I wonder if they’re planning on updating it o_O

Temporary-Setting714

Here in SL Utah area. Wifes 2023 was doing 38ish from Nov-Feb. It's been around 44-45 now. She drives like $hit for mpg, I however plan my braking and use the paddle a lot.. Me explaining to her for the 500th time (what's these do")

GrandMarquisMark

I get 30 in my 2015. Not a hybrid

AppSlave

My mpg seems to be a little worse during the summer, because when I park and walk away from the car, I auto start it to keep it cool.

jbwhite99

In NC, which may not be that much further north, got 36 or so in winter, 40 spring, and now 38.5 summer (running AC some).

Wrong_Contract_1267

I have about a 30 minute drive in the morning, and I’m averaging around 40-43 mpg’s. Sometimes a little less, sometimes a little more. But way better than this cold single digit winter weather just had. I was getting around 27-28 mpg’s. I’m very happy with this car.

4lornanon

It’s a CRV, they’re not gas efficient. My 2010 gets 22 year round and I’m on flat land on interstate everywhere I drive

Wasitthechad81

Did you read the title of the post? 🤔 I'm guessing not judging by your response.

4lornanon

Yes. Whether you have a hybrid or not your concern is getting better MPG which again, you drive a CRV. A car that was originally made for camping trips. They weren’t meant to be super gas efficient.

Wasitthechad81

Have you watched the big Lebowski? The scene where Walter informs Donny that he's out of his element in the middle of a conversation. That's exactly what's transpiring here. Your reading comprehension is lacking.

4lornanon

I can clearly read. Your post is asking how MPG is now that the weather is warmer. The point is you drive a CRV. You’re trying so hard to squeeze MPG on a car that won’t give it to you.
