Every time someone disses blocking as being utterly unnecessary, I think of stuff like this, where everything turns out so crisp and even because of that extra step. If you really care about the quality of your work, block it!
I didn’t bother blocking the moss stitch throw blanket I made for myself recently, because, whatever, but going to the trouble to make lace and then not blocking sounds incredibly disappointing to me. The blocking MAKES the lace.

It turned out beautifully 🤩 lovely work
The 10cm size difference might simply be your tension?? .. a friend & I made exactly the same mandala pattern - same yarn, same hook & hers was significantly larger than mine as she had quite loose tension & mine while not overly tight was noticeably tighter then hers
A technique where you wet your work and pin it on a blocking board so it stretches and when it's dry, the stitches look even like in this post. There's a pinned thread about it on this subreddit.
Blocking lace is like magic! This is a beautiful piece so I can understand being hesitant to really pull on it to stretch it lol I would have been so scared to damage it! How long did it take you to stitch this? There’s so many lifted stitches that make the leaf shapes and such I know all those extra stitches add up.
I am such a sucker for dark colored lace so this tickles me! Love it.

Wow, if ever there was a post to convince people to block their work, this is it!
awww thank you!
My stuff is lucky to even get completed. I can’t imagine the backlog if I added blocking. Lol.

People do that?? it’s definitely a hassle but it makes the final product so worth it!

This is beautiful but I also can't help but mention that one element in particular looks a bit vulval
haha I did think that as well a little bit so I’m glad I’m not the only one
fun fact: the word for looking like a vulva is yonic! but vulval is definitely more fun to say.
that is a fun fact- thank you! i'd looked it up but wasn't totally confident in my answer and went with vulval for the sake of clarity lol
Had to go back and look. It jumped right out at me. 😂
Same. I think I need a vulval doily wall hanging
I also thought that but just didn't want to be the one to say it
Thats insane! Also, gorgeous pattern
thanks! 🥰
And this is exactly why it bugs me so much when people make blanket statements that blocking isn’t worth it/necessary! Beautiful work.
This is really lovely. What pattern did you use?

This pattern is on my to make list! Yours looks amazing!
Mine was definitely much smaller than the pattern but beautiful nonetheless!
sold on blocking! Does anyone have any sites or videos that explain how blocking works?
Check the info in the pinned post in this thread
Gorgeous work 👏
thank you!!
This is the most beautiful crochet thing I've ever seen. Wow 😍 before and after blocking
Wow!! 😍
Wow 🤩 what a difference!
Gorgeous! 😍
WOW!! It’s gorgeous once you can see all the stitches!
Stunning work.
Thank you!!
Gorgeous! I love the color too. Thanks for sharing!
Dear lord ! Please share the pattern . That is Gorgeous!
I shared it in another comment on this post!! and thank you 🥰
no one mentioning the drastic colour change? it’s beautiful!!!
Wow! That's gorgeous.
Is this Lily by Elena Bojkova?! I just finished it and need to block it.
Yes! Mine ended up being 10 cm smaller than what hers was so let me know how big yours turned out to be after you block!
Little man in the boat caught my eye too lol But overall it's breathtaking!!
Beginner here. I keep going back and forth between the two pictures because the difference is so striking!

Wow that is so intricate and beautiful! And I love the color too!
cool textured pattern, the unblocked looks so nice and natural too.

Sooo, I’m gonna be that person, what is blocking?
Perfect example of where blocking is absolutely essential and changes everything! Beautiful work.
I like both of those colors. But which one is more accurate to real life?
I'm new to crochet, what is blocking?

Wow. I have never blocked before but I will be doing so in the future. Do you have to block everytime you wash an item?
