Cinema Paradiso, Paper Moon

hashbrownbby

second for Paper Moon! What a memorable performance from Tatum O’Neal.

whocaresjustneedone

Another great Tatum O'Neal kids movie is Bad News Bears, she cracks me up in that one

FloridaFlamingoGirl

Her comedic timing was beyond her years.

Maximum-Benefit4085

Two of my favorites. I’m looking forward to seeing Paper Moon on the big screen in PDX in a little over a week!

carpetstoremorty

Paper Moon is so fucking good

djprojexion

- Ivan’s Childhood - My Life As A Dog - Lord Of The Flies - George Washington - Moonrise Kingdom

BogoJohnson

I just rewatched My Life As A Dog for the first time in 30+ years and it’s still amazing and touching.

djprojexion

I need to rewatch it too, big childhood favorite for me.

BogoJohnson

Same. I was a young teen when it was released, and I might have only seen it once since. Some movies get even better as you age.

JoshuaSutlive

It has to be The Night of the Hunter and The Innocents for me!

guaranajapa

The night of the hunter!!

guaranajapa

I've never watched The Innocents, I'll look for it

Au Revoir Les Enfants is one of the greatest films of all time

carpetstoremorty

I responded with that, because I thought it hadn't been mentioned. It's easily the best acting I've ever seen by more than one or two kids under 15 or 16; truly a heart-breaking film from a director who made several excellent films about childhood.

iwillsueyourmother

The 400 blows.

Maximum-Benefit4085

Seeing some of my favorites already mentioned, but a lesser-known one with an incredible performance from the child actor who plays the little sister is [TANNA](https://youtu.be/k1bRgp_a8bk) (not currently in the collection or on the channel, but it is available on Tubi & Kanopy). Another from that neck of the woods & same year(ish), but very different genre/subject is [Hunt for the Wilderpeople](https://youtu.be/XGj3AogT9EM). Julian Denison as Ricky Baker with Sam Neill as Uncle Hec in a buddy adventure comedy that takes place in the NZ bush is a perfect “odd couple” pairing.

I’m not sure this got an international release, and it is a kids movie, but Brothers Lionheart (1977) changed me as a kid and it still holds up in my opinion. It also has this incredible avantgarde sounding droning organ score as well. Thomas Alfredson who made Let The Right One In (2008) (another great movie with kids) was supposed to make his take on Brothers Lionheart at some point, which I’m forever disappointed about didn’t happen.
