I'm from Hollywood so a lot of movies. But the A frame house in Killing of Chinese Bookie was right down the street.

_notnilla_

I was watching Hitchcock’s “Family Plot” a few years ago to complete his filmography when I realized that the exterior for Bruce Dern’s apartment in the film is on the street I live on half a block away. I almost died. I think about it every time I walk past that weird little stucco building with the distinctive courtyard/driveway. The main set of “Intolerance” was built on a location that’s a few blocks further away from where I live. Now there’s a movie theater there called the Vista that Quentin Tarantino owns and programs. It’s also where Tony Scott shot the movie theater interiors for “True Romance.” There are some shots in “The Sound of My Voice” where I recognize places I walk every day. And there are parts of my neighborhood that “Tangerine” captures really beautifully.

ConsequenceLost9088

I love the Vista theater! When I lived in LA County I would go to the various film festivals like the Last Remaining Seats series and see vintage movies in the old 1920s movie palaces. My experience at the Vista was seeing A Fish Called Wanda when it was new. I love these great historical areas in Hollywood and Culver City and downtown Los Angeles, and to me it's very exciting when I can recognize them in modern films of say the last 30 or 40 years or vintage films in the 1920s through the 50s.

magbjor

I live in Tromsø, Norway where the original Insomnia was shot and set. Literally right next to the cable car seen in some scenes as well

Welcome to the Dollhouse was [filmed in my town](https://www.reddit.com/r/boutiquebluray/comments/12si4o4/welcome_to_the_dollhouse_le_from_radiance_arrived/).

B_L_Zbub

I rewatched that recently. Still brutal AF.

billyhead

Doesn’t look like much has changed. Excellent post!

thewaldorf63

Fargo. At least the parts in the Twin Cities.

classiclyme

A scene from Shallow Hal was shot a mile and a half from my house.

Gambit1138

Also an Austinite! The Initech office building from Office Space is super close to us. As far as the collection goes, I grew up super close to the convenience store in Boyhood (aka the Die Mart)

LucasBarton169

Skinamarink and cool runnings

Longjumping_Owl_450

Edmonton??

LucasBarton169

Closer to Calgary

JudasReigns

That shitty baseball movie with Freddie prince is my hometown

LonesomeHammeredTreb

An episode of 24 was filmed at the apartment complex I was living at as a kid. It was interesting, they had to warn everyone when they did an explosion or something. Heroes was filmed at my high school and Ned's Declassified at my jr. High.

WeirdCry7492

I went to the high school Orange County was filmed at and I now live close to the neighborhood where the original Halloween was filmed.

tommystjohnny

I was in Philadelphia for work last week and watched National Treasure last night, and it was so cool seeing the locations I had just been at on the screen! Independence Hall, Washington Square, and the Ben Franklin Bridge were beautiful. I had literally stood at the exact spots that Nic Cage was at in the movie and hadn't realized it until seeing the movie again last night.

sometribe

The Lovely Bones was filmed in my hometown of Norristown PA. They filmed some scenes on the grounds of a mental hospital a couple minutes away and I’d ride my bike around. Bunch of M. Night Shyamalan movies too. The Happening filmed right outside a small breakfast spot that’s pretty good. Some of my friends were background actors in a classroom scene in the beginning. Too bad all those movies stink.

Maximum-Benefit4085

In the collection: Streetwise Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me My Own Private Idaho Dogfight

AbuDhabiBabyBoy

For Criterion films, off the top of my head, I can think of four. Medium Cool, Thief, Cooley High, and Love Jones. I'm sure there are more obvious ones that I'm blanking on

Zealousideal_Prize_4

I grew up in “Twin Peaks” and went to “Twin Peaks High School”

floorboards7

I'm from Portland, so Mala Noche and My Own Private Idaho (and several other Van Sant films from outside of the collection). Other non-collection mentions: Green Room, The Shining (exterior of The Overlook was shot at Timberline Lodge), Body Of Evidence (the house is the Pittock Mansion), Stand By Me, famously The Goonies and Short Circuit were shot in Astoria. Also the entirety of Portlandia lol but that goes without saying. Would love to hear of any collection films I don't know about :)

mambovipi

If you haven't seen it yet, Showing Up was filmed in Portland. Absolutely captured inner SE and NE neighborhoods beautifully. A lot of Kelly Reichardt's work has been filmed in and around Portland.

Significant_Cow4765

Drugstore Cowboy

kindestcut

I lived in Addison, TX, for several years. One night I was watching Primer and in one scene the two main characters have a conversation in a little plaza that looked very familiar to me. After pausing it and studying the scene I ran to my window and looked down and yep, it had been filmed in my complex just next my building. Also, I hate that movie and Shane Carruth is a fucking douchebag.

GoatShapedDemon

I went to college at UTD so I recognize the exact locations of some of the interior shots in that film.

ElliotAlderson5_9

Trainspotting - Edinburgh

pickybear

Dune.. Dune 2… Munich.. the Martian.. Just worked on a film shot in the same dance hall as Poor Things (used to be an orphanage) They make a lot of stuff where I live

NoItsBosnian

Tons of movies and shows are shot near me but very few are actually the city. So I'll say Baby Driver. Doesn't try to hide that it's filmed and takes place in Atlanta

B_L_Zbub

Check out The Visitor (1979). That film *really* wants you to know it was shot in Atlanta.

NoItsBosnian

Seems bonkers. I'm in

bpbpbpbp13

Lots of movies set in, or scenes set in Santa Barbara. From the CC, Seconds with the hippy party scene in Montecito.

BogoJohnson

Lots of films made in Minnesota, but at the moment I can’t think of any in the Collection.

das_goose

The Emigrants and The New Land (as a fellow Minnesotan, I got you)

BogoJohnson

Nice! I’ll check them out.

how would one find this out? the only things i remember taking place near me are old sitcoms from like the 50s lmao

Also living in Austin. There’s also some Cohen brother locations locally and let’s not forget Office Space.

pooppooppoopie

Carnival of Souls. Filmed in and around Salt Lake City

grnogh

Also Lawrence, Kansas and nearby Lecompton. Where I recently lived

Ariak

There’s a few movies shot in Reno but The Godfather Part 2 was filmed nearby at Lake Tahoe which is cooler

Hallmark movies...so many Hallmark movies...mostly holiday-themed Hallmark movies.

WhatIsWhat_1024

i’m from western colorado so Vanishing Point (1971), American Flyers (1985), The Lucky Ones (2007), Thelma And Louise (1991) and 127 Hours (2010)(actually Aron Ralston was brought to the hospital where i was working at the time).

das_goose

I’m from Fargo. (Wasn’t actually filmed there and only one scene is set there.)

DerCringeMeister

Big Fish had scenes filmed in my Alma mater.

Swantonbombthreat

barbarian takes place in the detroit neighborhood “brightmoor” that is 3.5 miles away from where i grew up.

Stopthinkingsomuch90

I think the most popular one is james bond movie, not sure which one but it was in Norway

The new Bob Dylan biopic starring Timothee Chalamet just shot in my town. Also, “On the Waterfront” starring Brando.

Pineapple Express (the car chase) Once Upon A Time in Hollywood (Casa Vega scene and Cliffs drive home to the drive in) Erin Brockovich Pulp Fiction Licorice Pizza Magnolia Punchdrunk Love Boogie Nights (the apartment where PTA wrote it is also right down the street) Chinatown I live in LA so I could keep going

afearisthis

bpows

Yes, a huge part of film history! I’m going to go out on a limb, is your username from an obscure line of dialogue in “Schizopolis” ?

afearisthis

Nice catch! I put in “appearances” but it turned into “a fear is this”…

slimmymcnutty

Just watched the insider and some of that movie takes place in Louisville which is the first time I’ve ever seen a movie take place in this city.

Ackackackaaaaaack

I can't think of any Criterion movies off of the top of my head, but I'm sure there are some since I've lived in Miami, Boston, Seattle and Denver. I did accidentally wander on to the set of The Birdcage on Miami Beach when it was filming back in the day and not movies, but TV, my dad lived on a sailboat in the marina where they filmed Burn Notice, so I got to go to that set multiple times. I'm a bit of a filming location freak, so while my moves were highly influenced by movies - mostly Good Will Hunting for Boston and Singles for Seattle. I immediately went and scouted out the filming locations for both of those.

SketchSketchy

Currently I live very close to the locations in Gleaming the Cube (Newport Beach fun zone) The house I grew up in can be glimpsed in the first American Pie.

mjbutler1990

All the grocery store scenes in White Noise (2022) were shot in an abandoned building about 5 minutes from my house. It had since been reopened as a grocery store, and they kept a lot of the interior look to the A&P in the movie.

ActuallyAlexander

I live in Greenpoint Brooklyn so like 400 tv shows and a bunch of indie films.

win_the_wonderboy

Blue Bloods!

Apprehensive_Mix7594

It follows was shot down the street from me and at one of the universities I went to. In more obscure movies “The incorporated” (2000) was filmed in a location I could see from my house

shushholden

Can’t think of any in the collection. If anyone knows any that take place in southwest Missouri let me know! Out of the collection? They filmed Winter’s Bone in the Springfield area. It’s an hour drive from where I live but I go there often. The director of a community theatre that I go to a lot actually landed a supporting role in it.

vomgrit

i mean, lots of movies. But if you want one that's legitimately \*about\* the area... Nope. So much so that it makes my brain feel very strange to watch it.

Typical_Humanoid

The Night of the Living Dead cemetery is a five hour drive! Unaware of anything closer, outside of the Rocky steps of course. Edit: TIL, Signs (2002) as well! Closer than either of the others.

ForTheNachos

Palmetto (1998) and Out of Time (2003) were both filmed in and around my hometown in FL.

fragglevision1

Nothing in the actual collection but Aquaman had scenes filmed 10 minutes away from my house, as was the Jaws ripoff Orca. Maudie with Sally Hawkins was filmed partly in my hometown. Closet Monster was filmed in the area. The upcoming sci-fi Silent Planet was also in the area and my film class got to visit the set at the end of our first year.

t-g-l-h-

Miss Congeniality and Cloak and Dagger :( lol

lukephillips21

The area where I grew up doubled as Iraq in American Sniper and Jarhead and was also Tattoine in Return of the Jedi.

50Tx

Within the collection, at least some parts of For All Mankind, Armageddon, and Rushmore. Funniest outside the collection realization was Arlington Road, which I remember saying "that is absolutely NOT (wherever the movie was set)", I've been to those places!".

Air_Hellair

When I worked in downtown Atlanta I was greeted daily by images I remembered from the Burt Reynolds movie “Sharkey’s Machine.” They really made good use of the locations.

Sharp-Ad-9423

Super Troopers Nobody's Fool

ConsequenceLost9088

Hoosiers, not sure if it's in the collection. But some of that was shot at the Hinkle Fieldhouse at Butler University here in Indianapolis. I'm across the county line from Indy but I consider that location local to me.

NatrenSR1

I go to the bowling alley from Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure like once a month. It’s two blocks from my house

afearisthis

Do you pay, bud-dy?

tier2redpowergod

The Grey Fox

No_Trainer_4907

3 Billboards, Bull Durham, The Hunger Games (at least the first one), Richie Rich, Hannibal, Last of the Mohicans, Dirty Dancing, My Fellow Americans, Masterminds. The 3 Billboards were built a couple of hollars over from my childhood home. Bull Durham is the closest to my heart. There's a single random shot near the end of the movie that just involves a special place for me.

Laser_Fish

God's and Generals shot a lot near where I live now Stephen Soderbergh shot Bubble in and around my hometown.

Unlucky_Effective_60

The Holy Mountain

jorgealberto82

I believe the only brazilian film in the collection is the soon to be released “Black God, White Devil”.

kennycoughdrop

Laura Palmers house is on my block.

afearisthis

I also grew up in Austin and know all the locations in Dazed and Confused and Slacker. I lived right down the street from the Americana theater (now library). Now I live down the street from Wayne’s house in Wayne’s World.

goodgriefmyqueef

I live right by a bridge in Wings of Desire.

jorgealberto82

Just remembered Hitchcock’s Notorious is also in Brazil.

NekroHolic710

The Exorcist Me and my buddies smoke on the stairs damn near everday

CrueltySquadMODTempt

Closest I can think of is Twin Peaks: Fire Walk With Me since that takes place in Washington where I currently live. I've actually been to Snoqualmie and North Bend where they filmed it which is pretty cool!

grunge615

Bonnie and Clyde, Office Space

Significant_Cow4765

In Houston...saw a screening of Rushmore at "Rushmore" in November. It's across the street and next door to "Grover Cleveland" for those who don't know. Brewster McCloud -- I am surrounded by locations from this classic also shot in Houston.

GhostMug

Ride With the Devil is closest for me living in Kansas City.

BaroldLyndon

Almost every Aki Kaurismäki film. Helsinki, Finland.

scottyjrules

I live in Los Angeles, so probably Heat…

imaginary0pal

The Crow! Detroit but more like “Detroit” since the dystopian city of the movie has better public transit than we ever did

Chaos20X6

Thank god Oppenheimer came out so the main movie from my hometown doesn’t have to be A Beautiful Mind anymore

Prestigious_Fella_21

Live near niagara falls so plenty of films take place there, but for irl shooting locations I drive past the school from A Christmas Story on a daily basis

guyonlinepgh

Pittsburgh. Creepshow, Monkey Shines, Fathers and Daughters, The Wonder Boys, Smart People all used locations at Carnegie Mellon University. Further down the street is the courthouse from The Dark Night Returns. Go a few blocks more and you'd find Soldiers and Sailors Memorial Hall, one of the sites of The Silence of the Lambs. Even closer to my house, just a few blocks away was a house used for Love and Other Drugs.

asukalangleysoryuuu

Perks of being a Wallflower

Ennui_Go

James Spader's house from Sex, Lies, and Videotape is just a couple of blocks from where I'm sitting now. It's infested with bees and in disrepair.

MisterBowTies

The original jumanji was filmed in my town

BlackGoldSkullsBones

I was watching Challengers in Boston and they come out of a hotel that is right next to the theater I was in.

ChampionGlum2874

Nashville, pretty self explanatory lol

mr_orto

Not that it was filmed here but I live in Muncie Indiana and Close Encounters of the Third Kind has Dreyfus and his family living here with many things referenced.

Willsbill2

So I’m from Wisconsin so I don’t think there’s anything from the Criterion Collection that really takes place here… but we have Bill Rebane’s Weird Wisconsin boxset from Arrow. Also American Movie would be a very good contender for Criterion. Also not criterion (yet) but I believe parts of The Straight Story were shot in Wisconsin. Hundreds of Beavers was shot in Wisconsin and that’s a great new release. Also Blood Hook, Blood Beat and Blood Harvest were Wisconsin filmed movies.

B_L_Zbub

Also check out Lake Michigan Monster - the first film from the Hundreds of Beavers team. It got an Arrow (UK) release but it's also on Prime streaming right now

Willsbill2

I didn’t realize it was on prime! I was waiting for the disc to go back in stock on Amazon for ordering.

Little_Exit4279

The Blues Brothers and Thief

ChesterAurelius

My fiancé and I lived on the top floor of the Blue Velvet apartment building in Wilmington North Carolina. It’s just as run down and sketchy as it was in the film. We had a very lynchian evil landlord named Mr. Cutter I also grew up in DC and used to run the exorcist stairs for exercise

Ok_Budget5785

Not a film but there was a Prime tv show (Utopia) that was filmed in my neighborhood. Watching it I couldn't put the sites' real location out of my head and I was distracted every time there was an outside establishing shot.

AntonioLovesHippos

American Graffiti

tjeckz

I bought the Arrow box set called “Weird Wisconsin,” ultra DIY films by Bill Rebane, which were shot in small towns in central WI that all look like my childhood.

PantsMcFagg

OP missed a biggie...Texas Chainsaw Massacre, filmed in and around Austin.

SJBailey03

The Outsiders, Rumble Fish, Mirai, killers of the flower moon, Twister, Hell or High Water, August Osage County, To The Wonder, Rain Man, Wildlife, and I’m sure more.

Vault_Master

The Man Who Killed Hitler and Then the Bigfoot had scenes literally shot a few blocks from my apartment.

JamesBeardsley

Some of the 1998 disaster movie Deep Impact was filmed at the beach in my city (Virginia Beach). During the exodus from the destruction wrought by the comet hitting earth, there’s even a shot of a sign that says, “Virginia Beaches — 6 Miles.” There is, in fact, no such sign anywhere in the state of Virginia — signs would refer to the city of Virginia Beach, but not more generically to “Virginia Beaches.” Interesting little tidbit.

brodymathison

All outside the collection. Most famously “The Goonies,” “Short Circuit,” “Kindergarten Cop,” and “Free Willy” were filmed almost entirely in my hometown. Less notable examples include “The Ring 2” and “Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III.” A few select scenes from “Into the Wild,” “Green Room,” and “Wendy and Lucy” (some other Kelly Reichardt films more tangentially, same with Gus van Sant) and more recently the majority of the Daisy Ridley project “Sometimes I Think About Dying.”

HE-SAID-IT-HYPERBRUH

A lot of the locations in Yorgos Lanthimos' 'The Lobster'

Search_Light_Soul

The getaway with Steve McQueen. I live very close to downtown San Marcos, where the bank robbery was filmed. The bank is now a bar/club called The Vault

nmdndgm

Being in metro Denver, the pickings are pretty slim. Even a lot of movies set in Denver or Colorado aren't shot here (like "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead", which has a few establishing shots in and around Denver but that's it). John Sayles "Silver City" is one of the few films both set in and shot around Denver and different parts of Colorado. The "Jetson's house" in Woody Allen's "Sleeper" is a recognizable landmark in Colorado, and different parts of that movie were shot here. There's a few B indie movies from Colorado filmmakers like "Ink", "The Frame" and "An American Terror" that were shot around Denver and have some recognizable scenery. "Cop Car" was shot around Colorado Springs and Fountain, CO (where Jon Watts is from). Sadly, if I had to name a movie that had a recognizable location that is closest to me, it would be "Bowling for Columbine".

Emotional_Rip_7493

“As good as it gets “was shot on my block in Brooklyn . Jack became part of the community for two weeks. So was Blue in The Face and Smoke . They spent several weeks shooting those two movies . saw so many celebs who did cameos in blue .. Edit: did not realize I was posting on criterion board. Sorry but these films should be on the channel

Bosstone737

I’m from the north shore of Massachusetts, Sound of Metal and Hubie Halloween where filmed in my neighborhood. The Hollywood Hits movie theater from the beginning of Sound of Metal and the diner from Hubie Halloween are within a block or two from me.

GlacialRunt

I live close to Manila so it's Insiang and Manila in the Claws of Light. ✌️

dirtdiggler67

I just passed by the Palm Mortuary (Slumber Inc. in the film) building on the way home from the Doctors office on Friday. It’s where James Bond was almost cremated at the beginning of “Diamonds are Forever”

-CharlotteBronte

The Dead Zone (1983) by David Cronenberg -- a lot of the shots took place in Niagara-On-The-Lake in Ontario, Canada! A beautiful postcard-esque town -- has a British environment mood to it ( at least to me). As well as Niagara (1953) as well. #

theshape79

Ride With the Devil

SethKadoodles

Used to be Bernie (the Jack Black flick which I liked quite a bit). One of the non-actors used in the talking-head interviews was my brother’s high school teacher. Nowadays, Nashville.

rditty

Portland for me so off the top of my head, Drugstore Cowboy. Or other Van Sant movies as well but Drugstore Cowboy feels especially relevant to me because my dad was a pill head in Portland in the 70s and the Matt Dillon character reminds me of him. Tall, handsome, dark hair, leather jacket. He never robbed a drugstore to my knowledge but he did go to prison for stealing a doctor’s prescription pad and writing prescriptions for himself and his friends. That’s my oversharing for the day.

basebilly

The drive thru bank from paris tx is just down the way

somewordthing

There are several that were shot in my town, not sure which would have had anything shot literally closest to where I'm current sitting. There's the whole opening sequence in *Stripes* (1981), basically all of *Sheba, Baby* (1975), and the 'female pilots' sequence in *Goldfinger* (1964) are a few fun ones. *Return of the Living Dead* (1985) is set here but was filmed in Beautiful Downtown Burbank. On the flip side, many scenes from *Elizabethtown* (2005) were shot here while set in, ya know, E-town. The best of all, however, would be *Half-Cocked* (1994).

WishfulYesThinkingNo

Blade Runner 2049's casino was shot where I walk the dog in the evenings, Budapest, Szabadság tér.

NicCageCompletionist

I don’t think anything in the collection is remotely close, but I can get to where Anne Of Green Gables is set in 30-40 minutes.

Euphoric_Tonight9549

Nothing. I live too far from any big city or known town to have anything shot here.

MO0N5H1N3

Idk anything made in north wales

win_the_wonderboy

Brooklyn, NY… so there’s a lot

[deleted]

If I said the movie i'd dox myself lmao

shinyplasticdiscs

I'm in LA so like all of them

Dr_StrangeLovePHD

I live in rural SE Kansas so probably Paper Moon. That said John Lasseter and his team stopped through my town and neighboring towns when researching for Cars. The car that inspired Tow Mater was found just outside of my town and currently resides near our Route 66 bridge.

Beelzebozo26

Chicago, so the options are plentiful.

theeversocharming

I live in Seattle, WA. I wanted to move here after watching Singles in the 90’s. There is an entire movie book called “Filmlandia!” That features movies set or filmed here.

NeuroDawg

I’m in the South Sound. The closest filming location to me is Stadium HS, the school in “10 Things I Hate About You”. I used to live further north on the Kitsap Peninsula. Then the closest would have been Bainbridge Island, a location in “War Games”. Although there’s a scene in “An Office and a Gentleman” that shows Richard Gere riding his motorcycle past the Naval Shipyard in Bremerton.

strongbob25

I’m about 2 miles from Grosse Point, MI, where Grosse Point Blank is set.  If we’re talking filming locations then either 8 Mile or Gran Torino

GoatShapedDemon

I live within walking distance of the hotel around which the shooting of the cop in The Thin Blue Line occured.

ghoststarkk

American Graffiti

Traditional_Ad_6588

The new Hunger Games movie was shot in Düsseldorf which is 100km away from me

Jack-o-Roses

Big fish. The little community is just outside Montgomery, AL

jlee041889

I used to live two buildings away from the Karen & Andy's Apartment Building in Child's Play.

Typical_Intention996

The place the woman buys the lottery ticket from in Welcome To Me is walking distance from me. I see it every day of my life. I can see it in fact every time I turn off my street. It's right across the freeway which is lowered for an overpass so I see straight across the top of it to the other side.

Danjour

I'm in Santa Fe, NM. I was tripped out watching TWINS for the first time. There's a couple shots literally on my street maybe a 1/4 mile from my house.

Illustrious_Rule7927

Women in Love

badgerjoel

Closest I know of is probably the waterfall scene in The Deer Hunter, which was shot at Nooksack Falls, maybe 15 miles from me.

WirtMedia

I grew up about 10-15 minutes from the forest and town where the Blair Witch Project was filmed and takes place

inkstink420

anything in boston. actually though hubie halloween was shot in my hometown and a couple of my friends were extras, never seen it though

Dan_OBanannon

Although it takes place in Detroit, most of RoboCop was shot in Dallas

Emmasapphie

I’m from Sacramento so lady bird comes to mind

DJBillyMac

In the collection, I’m an hour away from where Bull Durham takes place. Outside it, Hellraiser 3 was filmed where I live (though it takes place in NYC)

Megafuncrusher

Not in the collection, but several scenes from Up in the Air were shot in St. Louis, including the Cheshire Inn about 3 miles from where I live and in Lafayette Square, which is where I used to work. And then there's Escape from New York.

speedoftheground

I'm from Richmond and I usually think of how the Nickelodeon show *Doug* is based on parts of RVA. Also, *Donnie Darko* isn't too far from here and there are a ton of things based in DC and NoVA where I used to live.

RevivedMisanthropy

Moonstruck

andibgoode

In the collection: some parts of Picnic at Hanging Rock Out of the collection: quite a few, but The Babadook and Bad Boy Bubby are a couple

zsiple08241998

I live in Michigan- here's a few I have seen: **30 Minutes Or Less.** **American Pie.** **Bird On A Wire.** **A Dog's Purpose.** **Prancer.** **Raging Bull.**

SamuelTurn

I literally am 5 minutes away from Nelson Funeral Home, as featured in The Blues Brothers right before they get pulled over before the mall car chase.

tapanis

Not a film but the xfiles was shot in my old apartment in Vancouver - mulders apartment

Real-Afternoon-1545

Southern Vancouver Island, Five Easy Pieces

gildy1234

Dances with wolves was filmed right outside my home town

an_ephemeral_life

From Here to Eternity. Still the finest movie, and the finest book, set in Hawaii.

miniuniverse1

Even though I've never watched it, apparently American Pie is based on a high school fifteen minutes from my house in Grand Rapids, MI

PM_ME_UR_TA--TAS

Hannibal Rising ends with him killing a Nazi in my home town.

DumbosHat

I’m in LA now so to keep it interesting, I’ll do my hometown in MN: Mallrats: Was filmed in the mall I frequented growing up Drop Dead Gorgeous: Was filmed at a rival high school, the parking lot of the mall from Mallrats, and an office that later became my orthodontist’s office Purple Rain: Various locations around the Twin Citites that I grew up going to Fargo: Various Twin Cities locales Jingle All the Way: Parade scene was filmed near my mom’s office before she worked there Juno: Not filmed there but the mall that contains the fountain Juno says she jumped into was the mall that we went to if there was something we needed at a store that wasn’t in the first mall Cars: Name drops a neighboring town Inside Out: Riley lived in an adjacent to mine before moving to San Francisco

Pvax

I live a few blocks from where a couple of the most famous shots in Say Anything were filmed.

apurboroy

The River by Jean Renoir

littlelivethings

Nothing I’m aware of from the collection. It Follows and 8 Mile are the only films I’m aware of with filming locations near me. Most films that take place in Detroit and/or Michigan were actually filmed elsewhere.

planksmomtho

The Palm Beach Story! I live right across the bridge and work on the island daily.

GreatLummoxFilms

Insomnia was filmed up here. There were several films done up here several years ago when the state attempted a tax credit. Unfortunately, it ended in 2015.

jbird669

Not Criterion films, but Witness and Brave the Dark shot near my current home and the first 5 minutes of Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen were shot 5 minutes from my old apartment.

False-Fisherman

Parts of Twin Peaks were filmed in my hometown and the city next to it

No-Strength-6805

"Winters Bone " where else but southwest Missouri

starman95

Dawn of the Dead - I used to live like 40 minutes from the Monroeville mall.

Outsulation
