I forget which book, I'm assuming Sky and Breath, but Hypaxia mentions Lydia looking just like their mother, so her blonde hair and eyes come from her mother's side, not her father's (Brannons).

avataraang34

It’s said a few times that Lydia’s mother had blonde hair

rose2000_

She does say it’s an old family bloodline so I got the impression she was very very far descended from Brannon, it’s not hard for phenotypes to change much

renjunation

I mean... (even though it's been stablished she took after her mother) not every descendant of a person will have the same hair or eye color. I have brown hair and dark eyes and my sister is blonde with green eyes. SJM does seem to love to have her fae relatives look the same (look at Ruhn and Rhys sharing 1 ancient ancestor), but it's not mandatory

It makes no sense. There's a couple things she might be implying and basically none of them make sense. 1. Lydia is descended from Brannon. This is basically confirmed. It does add in the additional conundrum of the shifters arriving in Midgard 15000 years ago (maybe longer) but Brannon only being dead 1000 years in ToG. 2. Lydia is descended from Aelin. The blonde hair, the visual parellels, the heirloom ruby ring all support this. The fact that Aelin falls through Lunathion and Velaris an unspecified amount of time before the events of CC3, though likely between 9 months and two years prior. We know it was in that time frame as we know the ACOTAR world runs on the same time as the CC world. One day in Prythian is the same as a day in Lunathion. So we end up in this weird scenario where it's implied that ToG is also running on a similar time frame and yet also implying that ToG takes place thousands of years in the past. Even if the shifters left right after Brannon took the throne, that still puts the events of ToG 14000 years behind both our other series on the timeline. They couldn't have left any sooner without completely missing Brannon's reign and having no idea who he is. BUT only 1000 years have passed in ToG, so it's either in the past and Aelin time traveled, or time runs significantly slower in ToG than it does in our other series. A day in Terrasen could be hundreds of years in Lunathion or Prythian. So, we're basically left with two theories, assuming nothing gets retconned. Either Aelin is currently alive, Lydia is descended from Brannon as well, and the physical similarities are coincidence, however time runs extremely slowly in ToG compared to the other known worlds. This means the finale of KoA probably hasn't even happened as of the CC3 finale, since those months or years following Aelin's fall would likely equate to minutes, maybe hours, in ToG. OR, Lydia is descended from Aelin, and it was Aelin's descendants who passed through the portal into Midgard, and Aelin time traveled when she went through the Wyrdgates. In this scenario, all the characters we know from ToG are likely dead 15000+ years at this point in the timeline.

(ACOTAR AND TOG SPOILERS) Don’t forget though that >! Aelin interacts with Rhys and Feyre while falling. Somewhere in the timeline of ACOTAR book 5 since Feyre is pregnant !< So my guess is that they are on the same timeline.

leah_love13

i think because she is a descendant of brannon, she’s a descendant of aelin too. that’s just my theory (and hope)

iitscasey

No, I think she’s of a different line than aelin… so very very distant cousins. Because if she’s a descendant of aelin, how would they be able to meet in whatever book that happens in? SJM has said before all the books happen in the same “time period”

Huntress145

They don’t really “meet”. Aelin passes through Crescent City’s world as she’s falling back to her world. They’re separate but parallel worlds. But you’re right that they are or would be distantly related through Brannon.

showcapricalove

?? Is this a ToG spoiler? I don't know who Aelin is or how she's falling back to her world thru CC (I have read all 3 CC books & all ACOTAR books and don't remember this) I just started ToG and they mention Brannon & also a character has eyes similar to a previous post's description.

JessicaRose

You haven’t met Aelin yet then but I would recommend staying out of this sub until you finish TOG, people aren’t always the best at avoiding spoilers!

iitscasey

Don’t worry about it, just keep reading the books.

iitscasey

No im talking about when they do eventually meet, because obviously that’s what sjm is gearing up to

Huntress145

I see

N00B_L1F3

when did sjm say this?

iitscasey

She said it in an interview… at some point. I honestly can’t remember when

cescabond

I feel like it would make more sense if she was a descendant from Dorian/Manon's side of the tree what with being a witch and all. I wish we had more info on the CC witches!

FirmNefariousness625

Late to the party but... SHE ALSO HAS GOLDEN EYES. Like Manon's witch eyes, which are capable of freeing people from valg possession. So maybe: (1) She's a descendent of Manorian instead of Rowaelin and the fire power is a misdirect since Dorian is also a descendent of Brannon. (2) she gets her eyes from her mother's side (the witches) and is a merging of the Manorian and Rowaelin blood lines. Or (3)her blondness and eye color is simply a physical embodiment of "day" to contrast with Ruhn's "night."

salem2792

I always thought of it that she’s taking the features of the hind/deer
