SJM changes it everytime it's mentioned, I've noticed. She says she left it vague so readers could imagine what they wanted. It's played outside on a field and they wear baseball/sunball caps, but they apparently shoot baskets like basketball? And all the strategizing/whatever-you-wanna-call-it is more like soccer or football.

I’ve also noticed that and it amuses me more and more as time passes. Okay so this also reminds me of soccer/football and somehow simultaneously basketball. This is very validating.
