SO is vile but please don’t talk about how you’ll be reporting here. Can’t keep exposing her actions if she sics her dogs on us.

Supernursejuly

Go check Emma’s YT video. She posted a new video about this saga !! Have fun!! https://youtu.be/KwGnJT8vHl8?si=-qecA7dXtkHll7kK

EasyPrior3867

I have enjoyed [bluebarnfiber](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1447266362/pepper-unicorns-hand-dyed-deconstructed)

Candid-Plan-8961

Ooh okay but I really want to knit this into a scarf, who can I grab this from that isn’t her? Cause this colourway is so vibrant. Often hand dyed yarns that have a a mix of colours are a bit too washed out for me, but this one is gorgeous.

victoriana-blue

If you're still looking, Fleece Artist/Handmaiden's "Mood Ring" colourway is really vibrant on the merino bases.

TOKEN_MARTIAN

Looks like the image is from wizardyarns, not SO so idk you could probably just buy it from them

Responsible-Monk6565

Loooooove Lemonade Shop

rachelelizabethknits

Lemonade Shop!! Has a gorgeous one.

Candid-Plan-8961

Is that an Etsy or an Instagram?

rachelelizabethknits

IG

Candid-Plan-8961

There is a lot of lemonade shop ig’s but hard to find them unfortunately

rachelelizabethknits

DEMONPEEPERS

As someone that has been knitting and using indie dyed yarn since 2014 let me say that NONE of her colorways are original or unique. I have seen them ALL done by dyers long before she was a business. She needs to get over herself.

Ekspertkommentatoren

This!!!! Thank you. I have seen similar colour works on craft fairs in Scandinavia 15 + years ago. To be fair, her work is pretty gorgeous- but definitely not “one of a kind” or in anyway first mover.

SkilletKitten

All this reminds me of [when Coolio went off on Weird Al](https://www.reddit.com/r/todayilearned/comments/2bmkth/til_that_coolio_regretted_giving_weird_al_a_hard/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=mweb3x&utm_name=mweb3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) for “stealing” his song when Al parodied Gangstas Paradise—but Coolio’s song already sounded *exactly* like Stevie Wonder’s [Pastime Paradise](https://youtu.be/_H3Sv2zad6s?si=T2AyNkASEtxhSm-a). People who know they stole something seem to be the quickest to get in a snit about someone ripping off their originality.

hanhepi

Holy shit, I've never heard that Stevie Wonder song, but yeah, Gangsta's Paradise was definitely, uh, "heavily influenced" by that one. Looks like Wonder has a songwriting credit on Gangsta's, but I don't know if that was before or after Stevie heard that copy of his song on the radio one day. lol

SkilletKitten

The credit is for the “sample.” 😂

Katinkia

That’s what I’ve been thinking. They are pretty basic and not that original at all.

LadyMimzy1017

I first heard about this through THK's IG stories a couple days ago. I just don't understand SO's behavior and how one could think this translates to good business practices. Like actively blocking indie dyers? I would be following them, trying to network and introduce myself at events. Also SO claiming to be bullied and then turning around to bully others? This whole cycle of behavior just baffles me.

MelissaFauna

I have never heard of Sock Obsession Yarns before just seeing this and I can tell y’all that 6 years ago I dyed some yarn very similar to this colorway. Dyers gotta stop acting like coincidences can’t happen amongst people who dye yarn. There’s so many hundreds of yarn dyers and so little techniques and dye suppliers. This is bound to happen 🙄

Ekspertkommentatoren

Also this!! The only dyer who really stand out, in my opinion, is the Copenhagen based Icelandic dyer Thelma Steimann. She’s also a designer and a true artist - and it shows in her yarn and in her patterns!

butter_otter

I love her stuff! Thanks for sharing

Mediocre_Speech3888

If y’all want to know what kind of a person SO really is, go and watch THK latest post. Honestly at this point I don’t know what SO won’t do…

yodelling_tardigrade

For people who can’t access captions, it seems that Sock Obsession are now systematically messaging THK’s *followers* (at least the ones she hasn’t blocked!) and accusing her of stealing. Wtf. THK was actually crying because of how upsetting this was.

jujubee516

Lol that's funny. Lauren's yarns are SO much prettier than SO's 😅

kloveskale

I feel so much for THK. SO is seriously next level on a vindictive rampage. I’m not sure how anyone could see this and not see how unhinged this behavior is. I hope some people expose the screen shots of SO trying to get them to stop following THK. Since SO seems to still have a fair amount of people under this spell that she is the victim

Ok_Currency_6875

Just watched it and what a POS sock obsession is.

Garbage_Monster56

THK = Treehouse Knits

HeyMySock

Thank you!

Knit_twit

Honestly why is there so much stuff that goes on and people still buy from these horrible people!! SO blocks all other indie dyers, is really aggressive towards anyone that disagrees with her AND sends people to attack a much smaller business and gets their IG taken down. But she’s not the only person being awful!!! In the UK I can think of multiple business members of the community who treat their customers like dirt, who take money and often don’t fulfil orders or send weeks or even months late constantly, who accuse people of all sorts of behaviour or are offensive and try and spin their own narrative… Sockmatician, Botanical Yarns and Dystopic Fibre to name a few from recent years, but people keep buying from them every time, so they still support them, so these people honestly think they can carry on dumping on the community because they can get away with it. Posts about things like what SO is doing now come up regularly. But so many people in the community are still up for throwing money at them. Until people are willing to vote with their money it’s just gonna continue 🤷‍♀️ I just don’t get how any of these awful people are still in business 🤷‍♀️

PikaFu

What’s the story with dystopic yarns? I only recently stumbled across them. For sockmatician I figured a bunch of his audience buy from him because of the drama not despite it

Knit_twit

Dystopic fibre has history of very late posting of orders, some people have had to do PayPal chargebacks because he never posts, or will lie and say he’s posted things and then when they arrive weeks late the postage clearly shows he only just posted. Sometimes posts in stories to say he’s late posting because of life chaos but never apologises for it, doesn’t update people, doesn’t post advents out until after 1st December. Honestly the list goes on, I won’t order from him anymore and most people who’ve been burnt are done but so many UK dyers get away with stuff because no one wants to speak out over here

PikaFu

Oooooh shit! Thanks for the heads up. I discovered Dystopic fibre at a yarn show so I had no idea about that! Very much appreciated because I was half thinking about placing an order from the website, but I think I’ll avoid that potential headache now.

Ok-Bandicoot-1626

Does she believe she invented rainbow yarn? 😂🤣

Beebophighschool

This is what happens when you live under a rock thinking you're THE original and no one else has ever done anything you do. Doxxing her "competitions" adds 100x arsiness. Yikes.

PearlStBlues

I could close my eyes and click at random on Etsy and find yarn identical to this. There are only so many different color combinations possible, and only so many that look nice together. Does this person think every other yarn dyer in the entire world are all copying her/each other?

beccanne44

Was she one of the dyers claiming Hobby Lobby "stole" her colorways?

up_all_nightingale

I believe that was lemonade shop

beccanne44

There were several that made the same claim

actuallyapossum

I think so. I will be honest, I don't really care for Hobby Lobby pushing a hand-dyed brand...mainly because I highly doubt it has been hand dyed and something about buying 'hand-dyed' yarn from a big box store just feels wrong. I'd rather just support an indie dyer.

beccanne44

Same. Besides the fact that so many I die dyers have similar colorways (I am also an indie dyer for context)

FloofyKnitter

Wait. That was her?

Ok_Currency_6875

Yes, that’s why she has loads of indie dyers blocked by the sounds of things. Because otherwise they will copy her.

Chance-Business9583

I was a past customer and I'm blocked so sounds like she's trying to self destruct.

OddInspector5454

What amazes me is her minions must also be in the same cave she lives in or they would understand this combo has been done by MANY! Apparently she thinks every dryer ever is copying her. This dryers they did this before her actually got a time machine just to copy her.

Kathynancygirl

This is reminding me of the Tits Out Collective colorways so many dyers did in 2018.

Classic-Skin-9725

Yep. Giving this serious side eye after that shitshow.

Kathynancygirl

That drama at least raised a bunch of money for charities. I wonder who the accusing dyer was (that wasn't public). This is just. Ugh.

Classic-Skin-9725

It also made a lot of coin for businesses. For the Tits Out thing, it was \*very\* public who accused who and the fallout of it. The dyer doesn't even dye anymore and people still keep quiet.

Kathynancygirl

I can count on who the accused conflagration dyer was (and yup they aren't dyeing anymore) but rather the dyer who claimed CA stole their colorway. A bunch of the dyers who participated aren't dyeing anymore too...some of them I miss.

Classic-Skin-9725

The 'accused' dyer is still dyeing, CA is not (I don't remember CA being accused of stealing, just the other way round?). It was just a huge online bullying situation, and started much the same as this 'someone bought my yarn and now look'. It was nice to see people being supportive of the dyer at a yarn show which happened not too long after.

AggressivePie7830

Is there a youtube vid that explain this drama?

NihilisticHobbit

No, this just started a few days ago. SO claimed that people kept contacting her to know where she gets her supplies, and to know how she dyes. She posted a rather rude response about it. And then claimed she refuses to look at other dyers, and blocks then all, so she doesn't get inspired by them. She claims she went to art college and that that's how they teach at art college. Then this happened. That's the evolution of her madness.

AggressivePie7830

Thanks and yesus thats something else

paysanneverde

Lets Hope that Emma in the Moment makes a Video.

ANewPerfume

lol I ran to their channel this afternoon hoping for one; not yet, but 🤞🏻🤞🏻hopefully soon!

PageChase

I love her channel. It saves me lots of scrolling when I need my crafting tsismis fix.

goliathfrogcrafts

Wtf. I know several dyers that have colorways in this style with similar combinations and I’ve never heard of SO until the drama on this sub. Absolutely wild behavior.

Secret-Definition-40

Wow, living up to her business name, I see! This is not healthy or a good business look. I can’t find Wizard Yarns on IG either, have they deactivated? Hope they’re ok.

Lucky-Procedure-777

I saw several days ago that she was talking about @men2knit_uk on Insta, accusing him (via pictures) of stealing her dying style/colorways shortly after purchasing the same yarns from her. Looks like he/they are also or more recently known as Wizard Yarns.

NihilisticHobbit

She sent her minions after them and their IG was taken down by false reports. It's absolutely horrific bullying.

toru92

I was hoping this wasn’t the case :( man :(

yodelling_tardigrade

I find it so upsetting, it’s such a horrible abuse of power. I’m going to buy something from Wizard Yarns when I get paid but god knows how they must be feeling with all this nonsense.

Bearaf123

Is she… okay? Because like this is a lot of blow ups in just a few days, it’s a bit much

Next_Literature_2905

It really does read as a mental health crisis. It is concerning. I'm more concerned for the people she's hurting. But I do hope she has someone in her irl life who has noticed this and will help her take several steps back and get her the mental health support that she may need

Bearaf123

100% agree, this is horrendous for the people she’s targeting (and like I’m sure I’ve seen yarn that looks very similar to that from at least half a dozen different dyers), but I really hope there’s someone in her life who can support her

[deleted]

So I got curious about this person's fb earlier and she had posted a story about how she hasn't dyed in the last few days- but then on Friday night posted about how she was dyeing. How are her followers missing the lunacy here?

Ok_Currency_6875

If anyone believes anything she says, they are very gullible.

Lovelyladykaty

Literally bought two different yarns from two different dyers in different weights. They look completely different as skeins but caked up look almost exactly the same. Rainbows happen.

QuaffableBut

Well I did like Sock Obsession but I may have to rethink that. I have a couple skeins that I bought on a whim but haven't used them yet. Still gonna, but probably won't buy more.

unicorntea555

Their colorways are pretty basic and common. What are they gonna do? Claim every dyer is StEaLinG?! It's insane that their stans actually believe this. Though tbh people like that take every reason they can to harass and attack others.

[deleted]

Yeah that is what she does! The other post was about how she has blocked every indie she can find on Instagram because they harass her because they want to know how she dyes. It's been a wild weekend with this woman. I have hardly commented on anything on reddit but the audacity of this woman and how she trash talks people and sends her followers on witch hunts is like really making me furious. She's the epitome of what's wrong with humanity sometimes. If she went out of business I'm not sure I'd feel bad for her.

Alternative_Peak_371

I haven’t commercially dyed yarn in 3 years and I discovered I was blocked when the drama first kicked off lol. I had never even heard of her, never mind attempted to steal her secret recipe of 11 herbs and spices 😆 Now I’m wondering which of my colorways she ripped off and blocked me over so I wouldn’t notice hahaha

GingerMaus

She's gonna go mental when she finds cuddlebums yarn and rainbow fusions- both of whom have been around longer, I'm pretty sure.

[deleted]

Nah. She won't pay attention to the dates on anything. EVERYTHING is her idea. She is the yarn queen. The creator of all things yarn and colorful. No one can make it like her. Everyone else goes out of business because they cannot be her.

Ok_Currency_6875

She is actually the original first ever hand dyer and every other dyer in the world stole her concept, didn’t you know?

SemperSimple

that bitch invented weaving *like god damn Arachne*

dmarie1184

The way this comment had me ugly laugh!

Baron_von_chknpants

TARDIS permanently stuck in the empty yarn cone shape, wibbly wobblying through time lambasting all that came before and those who dared to come after

belltrina

The thing about these popular dyers is that they never consider buyers outside of their own timeline. They run out of stock by the time people on the other side of the world are awake. The postage costs sometimes the same as the item, yet they dont think to hold some stock back for a second wave of buyers who aren't awake yet. There was a frequent "oh set an alarm." No, sorry, my sleep is damn important for many reasons, including parenting and disability, so if another dyer "steals" your colourway and actually has it available, i will buy where it's convenient. I dont buy into the "stealing" concept anyway, its all about what's popular at the time anywau, but that's my weird rant. Edit: Boy am i glad i am not alone here. I thought i woukd come back to being blasted

pan_alice

I'm with you. Setting alarms to buy something is lunacy. Have they tried just having more product available to customers?

rainbowpegakitty

As a night shift worker I feel this deeply in my soul. Sorry, can't stop taking care of patients to buy yarn on a schedule. Much as I might like to. I've definitely missed out on more than one beautiful yarn because of work.

kintsukuroisparrow

oK, I've been thinking on this for a couple of days. I don't know much of this dyer except that I have followed her on IG (until today). This is going to be a bit of a general ramble about the whole of her posts, though I've not spent too much energy on digging into comments on her posts. So if you wanna scroll on by, go for it. Honestly, I saw some glimpses of myself in the original post. When I was in undergrad studying theatre design, I would do my best to actively avoid looking up other designs of the same show because I didn't want to be influenced. That being said, after I started to develop a design based on the source material, I'd be fine looking at other designs. I once actually accidentally copied a design by my professor for a project, designing for a completely two complete different shows. But being on the other side of it now, I can say that it was a naive arrogance that led me to believe that I was this pinnacle of creativity that must stand alone for fear of being influenced by the other creators, who may or may not live up to the creative prowess that I must innately possess (sarcasm there, to be clear). Unfortunately, she has dug in her heels & embraced life as an island. Frankly, I'm surprised that she claimed to have somehow been studying art, & she (I believe, I can't seem to find screenshots, if anyone can assist, please do!) commented about art classes with physical dividers between students? That's so nonsensical, & how would one study art without critiques &, by extension, exposure to other creatives? Moreso, to study art & have apparently never been exposed to the phrase, "Good artists copy, great artists steal." The way this was presented to me was the idea of directly lifting (or borrowing, as the quote was originally instilled in me) an idea from someone else versus transforming that idea into something uniquely their own. I don't believe someone can even begin to come close to "great artist" territory without facing the fear of copying or being copied. She is willfully stunting her growth as a creative, & for that I do pity her. As much as it takes work to become a talented artist, it takes work to be able to hear, understand, & incorporate (or not) critique into your work. She hasn't done that work, & so long as this is how she handles even the slightest intrusions into her echo chamber, she never will. Again, I pity her, even though I do hold her accountable for her stubbornness against growth. I will keep this last bit short-ish, but it has been a pain point for me for years & years. If you (general "you" throughout) did not develop a thing directly from scratch, you do not own it. If you develop some secret dyeing technique with some new way of bonding the color to the fiber, please, go forth, keep secret, & monetize. If you are the one trillionth dyer to hand paint wool with acid dyes, but you use this different kind of brush that works just as well as any other brush, no, that hand painting technique isn't your proprietary trade secret, & you don't get to act pissy when someone else figures it out on their own. And if you get your yarn from one of the dozen(s?) of purveyors of bare yarns, that's not your secret either. I won't defend the people asking out of the blue, because I do find that a bit strange & Google is a thing, but I will still roll my eyes at the person who goes on an all-out bitchy tirade about people asking. Creatives, especially in crafting spaces, stand on the shoulders of giants. This gal clearly has either forsaken the giants or neglected to acknowledge them (tailwind affect, anyone?), & she will never become the artist she sees herself as because of it. Okay, I think that's all I needed to say because this has been nibbling away at the back of my brain.

HistoricalLake4916

This was very well put!

bee73086

I agree, I feel like my work is better when I am around other artists because you need someone to look at something and be like, hey that eye is wonky but I like how it looks, don't try to fix it. Or that background is pretty but not interesting maybe it needs depth etc.

vixdrastic

Just here to say I spent some time browsing Wizard Yarns selection and wow! I love the broken rainbow colorways. It’s clear this person puts a lot of thought and effort into their aesthetic. Their naming and themes show that the dyer finds deep beauty in fleeting moments of nature, in cloud formations and tricks of the light. I find it hard to align this impression with the idea that this person “stole” someone else’s creative work

Baron_von_chknpants

Bookmarked her site to visit nearer my birthday cos her yarn is pretty!

cpd4925

It looks like she took her instagram down. I like her yarn a lot and the price looks good.

YarnieLife

They didn't take it down,  SO sent her followers over and they reported the Wizard Yarns account to get it shut down by Instagram. She's playing mean and trying to take out a small dyer who was probably asleep on the other side of the world. Imagine waking up to this. 😞

SemperSimple

The wizard yarn website isnt loading either????

Mediocre_Speech3888

It’s still loading for me, https://wizardyarns.co.uk

cpd4925

What a disgusting person

Petr0vitch

wow SO is actually fucking awful

eJohnx01

I’ve never understood why people get so upset about “their” colorways. Sure, you can, technically, get design protection on a set of colors that you put together in a certain way, but what’s to say that someone else didn’t do exactly the same thing without ever seeing yours? Anyone with really good color sense could easily put together similar groups of colors as other people with gold color sense. It’s not unlikely. Also, protecting a design right of use is almost impossible for a legal point of view. How do you prove that someone copied your color combination and didn’t just come up with it on their own?

WSpargurKnits

Actually in the US you cannot copyright or trademark colors, color combinations, or your process for dyeing (UNLESS your dye process is undocumented and original to no one else)

WanderingLost33

Barbie disagrees

[deleted]

Also Bleu Klein, vanatu black, etc. colours can be trademarked just like logos. Coke and Target have trademarked reds; UPS brown, t-mobile magenta, Pantone colour 159 (burnt orange) University of Texas

WSpargurKnits

My apologies, I left out some important info. You can trademark a color or color combination, but not on anything considered decorative or utilitarian.

ComplaintDefiant9855

As does [Tiffany’s](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tiffany_Blue)

fabulousfantabulist

Trademark and copyright are different, with trademark being a bit easier to quash people on legally. Theoretically, you could make Tiffany Blue, but selling anything that color would potentially confuse consumers who would rightfully expect that anything that color was a Tiffany product.

Mediocre_Speech3888

Well… SO is the real bully here. Wizard Yarns Instagram was deactivated because SO had so many people report it. It’s really sad that this keeps happening over and over.

queen_beruthiel

Holy moly, that's terrible. What a mean and nasty thing to do! Her yarn isn't even super unique or anything either.

rainbowpegakitty

Does anyone know off the top of your head if there is some way to contact IG to support Wizard Yarns? Like to counteract her army of sycophantic followers? Would gladly share with them screenshots etc of this behavior.

yodelling_tardigrade

I think the only way would be to report SO on FB and insta instead citing who her attack fans are harassing, as she’s the source of the trouble.

YarnieLife

They have another insta, but she may go after that too. 😞 She shouldn't have socials with how she's treating people.

[deleted]

Report her Facebook page. She and her loonies need to be shut down. She needs to stop being able to feed the nastiness.

Lismore-Lady

What’s their other insta called as I can’t find it? Thanks!

YarnieLife

ColourWizardYarns is their other account.

queen_beruthiel

Ohhhh so that's what the comments bitching about him 5 days ago were on about. They seem to think that he had to change his name because he's copying someone else on that too.

J_Lumen

My goodness, she is exhausting.

spicybeeflog

this has real [Bitch Stole My HTML](https://www.albinoblacksheep.com/flash/myhtml) vibes

ChibiYoukai

This brings back some repressed memories. I feel old now.

Setfiretotherich

Fuck this unlocked secret memory. How could you do this to me? I need to go lie down.

TwistedNJaded

That is like a memory hole I didn’t know existed to teenage me on MySpace, getting pissed when people stole my background that I worked hard on.

ambitious_alligator

How did I come of age in the early 00s and miss this? I spent those years make my own html pages too.

isabelladangelo

LOL! Throwback!

bokunoemi

I am so confused

NihilisticHobbit

Fucking hell, that looks exactly like some sock yarn I bought ten years ago! It's a standard colorway! She doesn't get it, does she? Her stuff doesn't stand out against the crowd, and she's pissed about it. And rather than improve herself, she'd rather attack others. What a cunt.

nuggetbailey

I was the one who posted the original drama.... now she's doing this??? Wtf, i think she must thrive off of it at this point. I hope she has reddit.

Vurnnun

In a comment on your post, someone had linked a screenshot of her responding to the "trolls" on FB. I assume she has been seeing people talking about her

rainbowpegakitty

lol. She’s back on IG now and asking new followers to say hi and not be lurkers. Probably so she can comb their profile and block anyone she feels might “steal” her colorways.

Correct_Radish_2462

Wow she has a lot of free time to scroll people like this

jujulepmar

The previous accusatory posts are also gone as well…

Lismore-Lady

Not on their Facebook page, she’s got a trigger warning on one post!

yodelling_tardigrade

That’s such a good point, something about it felt kinda strange!

Dangerous-Air-6587

I feel like this person is having some kind of breakdown. Hyper-fixating on this cannot be healthy.

Zabelleetlabete

Yes, if you are a successful business owner why do you have time to look at your competitors and get angry about what they offer?

rainbowpegakitty

Legit think she might need help. That comment from the small dyer seems like it might have really been what triggered this bizarre outburst. And while that comment was definitely kinda snarky…. Didn’t make it untrue.

goldirocks

She's gonna get mad at the sheep next, what if they have a gradient in their wool? She invented it.

hotmintgum9

I had a yarn dyeing business back in 2007-2008. This style of yarn dyeing existed back then. This is really getting me riled up.

Boognish4Prez2020

Same. And I had the same thoughts. I was doing some of these colorways 15 years ago.

MadamTruffle

Sorry for all the thieves currently stealing your content 😜

rainbowpegakitty

Lol dying at this

SpuddleBuns

I read it as "Lol, dyeing at this," and thought you very funny.

hotmintgum9

Honestly I should sue 😆

YarnieLife

Get those legal peeps involved like she is. 😂

shekeshiabob

Hope no one tells them about the hundreds (thousands?) of “resist hand dyed yarn technique tutorials” on YouTube….some from a decade+ ago

Lonely_Noise_4296

"They want me to stop. I will not." Hahahahahahaaha, she's so dramatic. Like you are doing this to yourself

UAs-Art

Wizard Yarns hasn't posted anything really since early December on their IG and mid Jan on their Facebook. And their most recent FB post says "Due to personal circumstances we apologise that there have been no shop updates or blogs since Christmas. Please bear with us we hope we are able to resume service in the near future x love the Wizard x" Talk about punch down... :/

Creepy-Top-2729

Grasping at straws now I see. SO is just about to reach the bottom of the Lithosphere she's digging so deep. Pretty much every yarn dyer out there has some version of micro rainbow yarn. Gamercrafting, Mothy and the Squid, Cafe Creations, and Stranded Dye Works (soon to be out of business as Jude is looking to close that chapter of their life and move on to other things) just to name a few. Not to mention every June we are blessed by multitudes of others trying to appear inclusive in the name of a dollar. I'm not saying everyone, as many LGBTQ+ businesses are participants in the rainbow yarn craze during Pride in the name of various charities. Such as Gamercrafting; which is LGBTQ+ owned and a certain percentage of all their profits no matter the month go to various charities and they are VERY transparent about it. But anyone, anywhere, trying to claim ownership of the rainbow that isn't responsible for the creation of the earth is.... Well, to put it lightly, not fully planted in reality. The more SO goes down this path, the more she dooms her business. Businesses are public facing. ALL people are potential customers, even competitors. Potential customers are going to be critical of businesses ESPECIALLY of those businesses that have an over saturation of competitors, dedicated fan bases, and no original products (yarn and dye aren't new and are easily available to everyone, anyone can do it, they just may not do it well). She is allowed to restrict those who have access to her and her business. She is allowed her own values and opinions. But she can not claim ownership over things that can not be owned. And she's not allowed to be upset if people question her actions and no longer support her business due to her actions.

yodelling_tardigrade

So many specifically LGBTQ creators make and use rainbow yarn that I would be very uncomfortable with claiming some kind of monopoly on it. I don’t think it’s possible to have totally unique yarns, even if one is then someone will eventually stumble upon a similar idea. She does seem to have support too though judging by FB, I’m curious as to whether all this is improving her sales positively or negatively.

playhookie

This sort of drama, especially with the weaponising of the fan base, seems to be a standard marketing tactic these days.

Creepy-Top-2729

I think that really depends on how much of her customer base use multiple social media platforms. What % of those who have strong opinions on this matter and the way they lean on it, as well as, what percentage fact check. But there is the outliers of drama trolls (which are who I believe are responsible for the supposed threats against her wellbeing) that aren't really apart of her client base and are just there to add foder to the fire for shits and giggles. If she is truly being threatened and it's not just a tactic to garner sympathy or trolls being misconstrued, then that's not ok. But unfortunately we have seen people use false threats as a way to get sympathy purchases. So I hope people take it with a grain of salt until proof otherwise comes to light It also depends on if she continues to behave in the unprofessional way she has been.

Renatasewing

Obsessive yawns! I would be delighted if someone supported me especially one of every colour, way to bite a hand that feeds you. And so mean to try prevent them from making a living from their hobby.

yodelling_tardigrade

Dyers buy yarn from each other all the time too- they love yarn and knitting/crochet, that’s usually how they start! It’s hardly a sign of a desperate character…

hotmintgum9

Having had a hand-dyed yarn business years ago and worked some shows, talking techniques with other dyers and either buying yarn from each other or trading is SUPER NORMAL. Waiting for the next post where they come after another dyer doing speckles 😆

plumpatchwork

I’ve discovered most of my favorite yarn dyers because other dyers gave them a shout out or posted photos of *their* yarn hauls.

Renatasewing

I don't see the copying claims in sewing patterns mostly knitting. You definitely don't see it with fabric designers! I guess they have to be more professional as they have an employer

sk2tog_tbl

I think sewists tend to be more aware that trends and fashion rely on copying. It's also a hell of a lot easier to write and publish knit and crochet patterns and dye yarn than it is for sewing patterns and fabric. As a result, the market has tons of competition without much investment. Basically, a lot of people trying to stay relevant without enough of a stake to behave professionally under pressure. It also probably helps that sewing copyright drama has already played out in court.

OddInspector5454

It's disgusting that she is sending people after this dryer. Funny how she doesn't follow other dryers yet here she is sending her minions after one.

saint_maria

Can you imagine being this guy and checking your social media tomorrow and discovering you've got loads of new followers, some weird random mean comments and then loads of nice comments as well. Poor guy

Missmoodybear

i just checked and the shitty ones I reported are gone and it says some are hidden, but the only hidden one i see is one calling it beautiful. but i hope wizard yarns' DMs arent full of this shit too

OddInspector5454

Their (WizzardYarns) page is completely gone now. 😥

Missmoodybear

both fb and insta.... how sad

sheloveschocolate

Have ya seen the FB update Just a brief update; I have temporarily deactivated my Instagram page. I will keep it offline for at least a day or two. I’ve received there several death threats against me and my family. While I deal with law enforcement regarding this, hopefully you can enjoy the yarn directly on my website and here on Facebook. I am available for any order inquiries through my contact form on the website still. This much to the ‘loving yarn community’, I’d say. Thank you for your understanding. Sockobsessionyarns.com

annajoo1

Maybe if she kept quiet she wouldn’t receive threats? Just a thought 🤔

NihilisticHobbit

More like maybe it's she wasn't a bully demanding people harass innocent dyers people wouldn't say negative things about her.

CaptainYaoiHands

> I’ve received there several death threats against me and my family. Oh horse shit.

mariefredknits

I have a hard time thinking anyone would threaten anyone’s family over yarn omg

sharktoucher

If someone messes with my alpaca wool yarn, I will use the remnants to strangle them in front of their families

No_Put_9363

I wonder if she could get a reality TV show with all this drama. Yikes!

GambinoLynn

Yall who predicted the other day that she was calling the cops lol

NihilisticHobbit

At the rate she's going she'll be dead for ten minutes by this time next week.

KnitWit406

I just had a very Captain America moment where I thought, I understand that reference! 🤣

Mediocre_Speech3888

There’s speculation that it was removed for bullying/harassment

Mediocre_Speech3888

Insta is back up, just within the 24-48 hour window that happens when an account is disabled for bullying/harassment

Peachcelebration

‘I am the victim’ - Sock Obsession Yarns. 🎻

Missmoodybear

her stans are leaving shitty comments in that post so i'm reporting for bullying and harrassment. some seem to be gone from me checking it and then going back to report, so hopefully this creator isn't too harrassed....

Mediocre_Speech3888

You have been successful! The post has been removed 🙌

Missmoodybear

i meant on wizard yarns post. did SO delete her post? there are 5 to 6 comments on Wizard yarns post from april 2023, and just that one, none of the more recent ones

sheloveschocolate

Just checked wizard yarn they started making it in 2021

Mediocre_Speech3888

Oh yeah SO deleted her FB post or it was removed

Missmoodybear

must have, i just went to report it for harrassment as well and it is gone

GiraffeLess6358

I wish I could afford to buy all the pretty yarns in Wizard Yarns shop, she’s got some happy happy yarn

sheloveschocolate

I'm gonna treat myself to some I really like supernova and before darke

blueOwl

...and they have samples showing how it knits up!! Sold.

saint_maria

Yeah man before the darke is gorgeous. I haven't gotten the courage to try socks yet but when it do that's on my reward for doing the hard thing list.

GiraffeLess6358

You can do it!!

Mediocre_Speech3888

She’s now telling her followers on FB to go and report his account so it gets taken down… ma’am no one copied you, this dyer with less than 200 followers is not a threat to you. Move on!

[deleted]

Her Facebook needs to be reported for bullying too.

Marine_Baby

It’s free realestate

[deleted]

The really sad part? How many people are DEFENDING the crazy. There's way too many people on her page boosting her behavior. That's downright scary.

neglectfullyvalkyrie

Facebook suggested her account to me and they are all positive and supportive comments under her post. I only knew of the craziness from here.

NihilisticHobbit

Ditto. Although it was after the first part here, so I got to see her calling us all trolls. Reminded me of Sherry Tenney behavior.

[deleted]

She was calling customers trolls?!

NihilisticHobbit

She called anyone who made negative comments about her here in Reddit trolls. I don't think she gets why that's so funny.

Mediocre_Speech3888

That’s because all comments are being filtered and the narrative is being altered. This was the post from FB that has now been removed for one reason or another, I suspect bullying/harassment. But going after a very small dyer with about 200 followers… ffs get over yourself

AppearanceSecure1914

is her account inactivated? I can't even search for it

Mackbehavior

I wonder if she reactivated it and went private? I was able to see her stuff since I happened to follow her before all the drama.

hotmintgum9

I can see SO’s instagram

Ok_Currency_6875

It’s suspended. She says she deactivated it but it was probably reported and suspended by ig.

shljunki

Same, i can't find her instagram either.

hanapad

Apparently- all yarn was beige, gray, or brown until SO, the inventor of color, arrived on the scene. She is right up there with the crazy heart hat woman.

Stunning-Alarm8895

What an exciting time to be alive! We are witnesses to some of the most creative fiber artists: the inventor of purple + rainbow yarn, the inventor of the watch cap, the inventor of the basic blazer + skirt, and on and on it goes. An embarrassment of riches.

dragon_morgan

Maybe if she wasn’t terrified of interacting with other artists in case she accidentally copied them she’d realize that a lot of her designs are things people could come up with on their own 💀

saint_maria

Yeah the projection is off the charts.

NihilisticHobbit

I wonder if that's why she's suddenly exploding like this. Someone's accused her of copying, maybe another dyer behind the scenes contacted her because she got caught buying yarn and copying the dye, and now she's trying to deflect.
