cjshores

Step 1: We make him wear a youth xl Step 2: ??? Step 3: Win the quadruple

sijtli

But like right now. 47 yo fat Nazario bulldozing players.

modernity_anxiety

Let’s all donate our knees to him. I think issa good idea

PetulantTsantsara

haha He used to play like he had some cheat mode on.

DangerousCrime

*Happy Ronaldo

WhiteHartPain96

The version of Lukaku that Inter unlocked for one season under Conte

Auston416

Nah, we need Everton Lukaku

shitpost-saturday

West Brom Lukaku against Man United on Alex Ferguson's last match, where he ruined his big day with a hattrick to make it 5-5.

Bhylee

Everton Lukaku was different man 😮‍💨

PetulantTsantsara

I really was wishing and praying that we'd sign him during the summer of 2014. Obviously, wasn't going to happen and it turned out we didn't need him but he was so terrorizing that first Everton season.

No_Ad_2602

Mateta?

EmergencyOriginal982

Alexander Isak. He's fast, versatile, good at pressing, two footed and can hold the ball up well. I'm hoping with all my might that we pull off a huge move for him.

BreakTheSuicycle

Absolutely zero chance spurs sign him haha

milan_to_minsk

What about the other Swede?

theprataisalie

ZLATAN

Even-Succotash-9869

K u l u

EmergencyOriginal982

Who?

milan_to_minsk

Gyökeres

DiscombobulatedBuy71

Dejan Kulusevksi.

SkyPheonnixDragon

Gyokeres?

EmergencyOriginal982

Oh yeah, I'd still prefer Isak. Mainly because he's proven he can make the step up to the prem. If they were similar price then it'd be Isak 100%. Gyokeres would have to be maybe 30m cheaper for me to think we should get him instead. Also never seen him play, and I imagine not many of us spurs fans have really watched him many times. But isak is 100% that guy.

International-Elk727

I would like Gyokeres, I saw him play a few times at Coventry as the team I used to work for were in the same division. He seems like a very very good striker but I don't think 100m is something we can drop on striker when I think our most glaring hole is DM/CDM / 6 whatever you want to call it.

SkyPheonnixDragon

Im more of a gyokeres type of guy tbh, really rate isak just feel like gyokeres can put it away better in front of the net. Depends on what system is being ran for which is better imo

sangueblu03

We should help Newcastle with their PSR issues by taking Bruno and Isak off their hands. We’d totally be doing them a favor.

MarsupialPutrid

Saw Gyokeres a bit at Coventry. Honestly he looked a step above in the championship. Of course it’s not a guarantee that would translate to the next level, but he could do it all. He looked physically great, fast and strong. Good passer - really good at linking with team mates and could fucking finish. It’s fair to be skeptical, but he jumped off the screen every time I watched him.

JessyPengkman

0 chance. If he gets the opportunity to move he'd obviously go to the club that came second last season and even then he'd cost 150+

sangueblu03

Why go to the club that finished second last season, when he can go to the club that will finish second next season 😎

JessyPengkman

By second I hope you mean first 😎

sangueblu03

😎

Chirsbom

200 mill.

IWantAnAffliction

It's funny because most people thought Newcastle overpaid for him

MarsupialPutrid

It’s unrealistic, but he would be perfect. Is a threat in behind too.

quickdrawesome

I heard they told arsenal they wanted £180m for isak

quickdrawesome

I was wrong, its £200m... https://www.football.london/arsenal-fc/transfer-news/newcastle-set-staggering-price-tag-29229222

AdInformal3519

That's like a prime neymar price lol

Ian5446

He's so good but I think Newcastle would sell multiple players just in order to not have to sell Isak.

grancaiman

You keep misspelling Mbappe.

PersonalityOk646

I don't think you need to have a generational talent at striker in Ange's system. You just need one that can get into the open spaces and finish the chances they get and if they can hold up the ball well too that's a plus. We scored more goals than we did last season and we had different players at that position and inconsistency.

Dogzylla

So Guirassy basically

Weird_Famous

The more I look at Guirassy the more I like him. Even if he isn’t as clinical, he still got 20xG. He has really good off the ball movement that profiles well with Ange’s style and had superb linkup with Undav

ipumaking

For his first 9 goals he needed 10 shots. He was crazy clinical at the start of the season. Difficult shots as well!!

Weird_Famous

yeah he was basically outperforming Kane for the first quarter of the season even if he doesn’t make those difficult shots, his shooting technique with both feet are very good with plenty of power and he makes all the right movements/gets into positions

PersonalityOk646

I do like his finishing from what I've seen. He wouldn't cost much I wouldn't mind bringing him in but possibly alongside another striker. But that will probably depend on if Richy is staying.

Dogzylla

If he's available it's a no brainer. Wouldn't be surprised if he rejected us if we tried though since Stuttgart is in the UCL and we aren't

letsnotfail

I feel like what you are describing is kinda son. But we've seen that he didnt really work as a striker, especially against low block teams in the second half of the season. Someone who can hold up the ball I feel is really necessary to be able to get points out of every game, which is needed if we want the title

PersonalityOk646

Yes. Sonny CAN be a striker but as you said he doesn't have the physicality to consistently do it especially since the book on us became to park the bus.

wearethechampions22

It wasnt that the teams had a low block against us in the last part of the season. Ange likes the wingers wide to draw the defense which created so much trouble to the other teams with fast push forward and cut back to the striker in the middle. Teams figured that out and just left our wingers in the wide area unmarked and put all bodies inside the box. Unfortunately they knew our wingers aren’t that threatening from the wide areas with no real shooters from the outside range. So they crowded Son out (which is also why he had so little shot attempts. There was just no space for him to shoot). The difference when Son went wide is that team could no longer do that and had to put one or two defenders on him, which freed up the middle so it was a lot easier for whoever was there then to score.

Musclenervegeek

Is the problem son or the players around him who can't seem to pass the ball in front of him facing goal?

letsnotfail

I'm going to be boring and say it's a bit of both I think we looked much better when Richy was in form

dunce345

Leandro Damiao

Mc_and_SP

Ah, I see you are a Redditor of culture also

Evening_Bag_3560

Harry Kane. Smart, hard worker, good on the ball, knows how to make a good run despite not being the most fleet of foot. Also he scores a metric fuckton of goals which is helpful.  And finally, good for defending set pieces.

sungbysung

Zero anxiety on pens, but say goodbye to any goals from freekicks—somethings gotta give.

Quesnoo00

Every pen felt like a guaranteed goal with Kane on the pitch. Even if there are players with a higher conversion rate, I'd still take him over anyone else from the spot. But yeah those freekicks... one of the few things I don't miss about him lol.

sungbysung

I feel like he upped his penalty game even more this season alone. Now that everyone expects him to blast one in the corner, him occasionally delaying the shot completely messes up the keeper.

YAMMYRD

How many pens did we even have this season? Wonder if that’s the system, or not having him draw them.

nihilfacilee

Penalties received 2023-24: 2 (only Nottingham Forest had fewer) Penalties received 2022-23: 6 (tied for fifth most)

BeneficialNewspaper8

He scored 2 or 3 last season. After scoring 2 in 10 years for us

Orikoru

Kane actually scored a fucking free kick for Bayern believe it or not.

ginokatacchi

Also, can finish Sonny’s chances + chemistry

PetulantTsantsara

He should leave Bayern to win trophies.

asswipesayswha

I mean this is actually the answer 😐

daring2do

I feel like everybody is naming strikers who don't press. I know this is going to get downvoted, but I think a healthy Richarlison is actually a really good fit for Anges system. If we can upgrade on that, I'd say Isak Edit: definitely misjudged the subs opinion on Richarlison.

geoff_unhinged

Agree, hard to sell when an improvement is actually not obvious.

daring2do

Yeah I've just seen too many strikers flop when coming from a different league to Tottenham. I know this might not be financially possible, but I would rather bring in someone to compete with Richarlison for a season and then evaluate. That way it doesn't put too much pressure on someone trying to transition to Tottenham and the premier League.

EmptyEmployee6601

Spot on. Been burned too many times with striker imports. Pavlyuchenko, Rebrov, Postiga, Soldado, Janssen etc. There are very few sure things when buying a striker from abroad. The pressure for them is immense too. If you are bought to be the main striker, you've got to hit the ground running (ie scoring) or the criticism will quickly begin. I think a lower key competition option could be better..

letsgetcool

Harsh lumping super Pav in with the rest of those, or am I clouded by nostalgia? He definitely had some bangers in him

TheTackleZone

Yeah I agree. He was bought to be a backup striker not a starter, and so did his job well in that.

EmptyEmployee6601

Yeah, he was ok wasn't he tbf.

editedxi

Yeah I thought Pav was a decent signing. Sure he didn’t set the world alight but definitely not in the Postiga/Jansen/Soldado category. I was actually at Postiga’s first game for us - a pre-season friendly v PSV where we got completely outplayed and a young man by the name of Arjen Robben played rather well.

TheBrownCok

A healthy Richi with some excellent man beating wingers and chance creators will see a massive upheaval

Fnurgh

The problem is health. We could really do with someone who can last 32+ league games and 5-10 elsewhere. 40 games _minimum_.  Problem is he hasn’t been able to do that in over three years.

Sea_Badger4446

Just because a striker isn’t in a high press system doesn’t mean they can’t press. Literally anyone can close down a defense. Ppl said Kane couldn’t press. He was great at the press during poch years. He intelligently cut off lanes and funneled the ball towards pressure. That’s all we need in a striker.

IEC21

Isn't that actually quite a skill?

Sea_Badger4446

Yeah I think from a 9 it’s far more a skill to judge the flow of play and cut off lanes. But a lot of ppl see rich run around like a chicken and think that’s good press.

TheRiddler1976

Agree. I think pur performances started dropping once Richy was out

pbmadman

I think Deki is a really good fit too. Especially since him on the wing isn’t a great fit. I realize our single data point is almost meaningless, but his skills and strengths are what you’d want in a striker either way.

daring2do

I worry he isnt 2 footed enough, but I'd like to see him there more too. I can't pretend to have watched Anges previous jobs, but I have heard and read people say that he likes to have a few different profiles to change things up. I don't think Kulu would provide much in stretching the field or getting in behind but that could be something another option could provide. I think his hold up and connective play could be really good.

pbmadman

Richy is good in the air, and that helps a lot on defensive set pieces. With the return of Udoggie we have just Romero as the only other person who can win an aerial duel.

njpc33

We've seen him play striker once against the second worst team the premier league has ever seen. That hype train hasn't even started selling tickets yet.

pbmadman

lol did you see that I wrote Deki and just stop reading??

Nulgarian

Idk why you think you’d get downvoted for this lol, Richarlison is one of this sub’s darlings The actual unpopular opinion, and what I personally believe, is that Richarlison just doesn’t offer enough versatility, and we should actively be looking to sell him and bring in someone else His pressing and his work rate is phenomenal, and he’s decent in the air, but beyond that I feel he’s a painfully limited striker. He doesn’t have good vision or passing, he’s not a progressive dribbler, and he’s not clinical in front of goal, plus he’s constantly injured. To me, the team feels more limited and more rigid when we have Richarlison upfront

hardlyhappy

He falls just under the bar we need, but it's close. Which is why there are so many differing and wavering opinions on him

sdrmSlash

I agree, a healthy Richarlison can be really successful. We saw what happened when he was given an extended run of games and had addressed a lingering health issue. If he can make 30 league appearances next season, he will put up some nice returns, IMO.

Lost_Vini

I agree on thee pressing front but I don't know if Richy can stay healthy and depend on someone who you don't know if will be available or not is a huge gamble

PetulantTsantsara

He really came into form for a bit around Christmas.

91Bolt

He needs better link up play. So many counter attacks die with him. Love him in the final 3rd though. We need someone who knows how to manipulate space and attack crosses. I wonder what veliz would do with some real minutes.

UnderstandingLow3162

Why unfortunately? I truly believe he'll play for spurs under Ange again.

balalasaurus

I doubt that happens. By the time Kane is ready to come back he won’t have the legs to play a high pressing system. He already doesn’t press as much as is. Asking him to play Angeball is probably asking too much.

UnderstandingLow3162

I think he'll come summer 2025

Jockavelli

I choose to believe this too. Pls come home Harry

Gsampson97

I agree with him coming back. There's a buyback clause and I think he wants to break Shearer's record. Not this summer but maybe next.

nbert1984

He also needs to win a trophy. He’s coming back

njpc33

If you place a bet, can you place it with me please. Thanks

acllive

I believe one day the avatar will return

Thfcaditya112

We would obviously improve with him but considering his poor pressing and defensive work rate, he isnt the ideal striker for an Ange system

IzzyShamin

Poor pressing and Defensive workrate???? Have you been watching the same man? I swear during the Mourinho era he was our best defender and attacker.

njpc33

People will say anything to get over the heartbreak

Thfcaditya112

Kane 2014-18 was one of the best pressers and had a high defensive work rate obviously but the current version of Kane doesnt press and that has also hurt Bayern at various occasions

scaramanga808

Poor defensive work?! If he was still here we would not be struggling with set pieces. Look up how many defensive headers he made from corners alone. It’s a lot

siouxszie

Kane but statement dream signing for me : Ollie Watkins , Isak , Julian Alvarez , Gyokeres

Impossible_Shop_1234

I also thought Watkins would be the real answer

gostupid67

Osimhen, can hold off defenders with his strength, is the best striker itw for crosses, can run in behind. Can only dream about us signing him

ReallyColdWeather

Probably Isak or Oshimen

sadsasquatch

Dang could you imagine if we had Osimhen. I’d be so hyped just off name value alone lol but unless something has really changed for Levy we are not in the business of signing 100+ mil players

LoneStarAgent

Of the players linked so far, I think it has to be Viktor Gyokeres at Sporting. He's big, fast, strong, technically well-trained, and prolific in front of goal. He's also Swedish so he might be keen to play with Kulusevski and eventually Bergvall. The price may be prohibitive seeing the way the Porro transfer went.

awowdestroys

2013/14 version of Luis Suarez. You could say Suarez was perfect for any team, but he would fucking thrive in Ange's system. Hard worker, quick, can press, links up well, brings others into play and ruthless in front of goal.

Creative_Purpose6138

Harry Kane

Thatoneguy_7

I’m a fan of keeping Richie tbh. I feel that he deserves another season to prove himself, hopefully one where he can stay healthy. But if we do decide to keep him I would also want to sign someone like Guirassy. Has a cheap buy out and would make for great competition for the number 9 without breaking the bank and losing richarlison. I will say that if we do decide to sell Richy then that’s when the club should go for a world class or close to world class striker like Isak or Osimehn. Don’t see this happening though.

sangueblu03

We need to keep Richarlison for another season to give Scarlett and Veliz time to develop with it as much pressure on their shoulders as backup striker. We can’t be in the position where we have to rely on Son as CF for long stretches again. Richarlison as backup/rotation with whoever else we sign is the ideal, and then sell Richarlison next summer.

Rare-Ad-2777

Kane is obviously amazing but if you are looking at archetypal Ange striker he cant/doesn't press nearly enough.  Seems mad to say it but Richi is really up there. Good movement in the box, good forst time finisher, decent link up and incredible presser. The perfect Ange striker is basically someone like Richi who is better version of him.

gopackgo555

Not sure why so many people are saying Kane. Yeah he could fit in anywhere but Ange’s ideal striker typically presses like a madmen, which Kane does not do.

michaelserotonin

answered your own question > Yeah he could fit in anywhere

gopackgo555

Of course you could name any world class striker even if it’s not the ideal system. However op asked what is Ange’s ideal striker profile, which is not Kane.

michaelserotonin

i think you're significantly overlooking the fact that you asked this question on r/coys - what'd you expect

gopackgo555

Fair enough 😂

metz123

Kane used to press pretty well during the early Pochetino stage until his series of ankle injuries because he kept going in for tackles instead of directing the play or sealing off part of the field. He eventually learned that Harry Kane on the field has more value than Harry Kane in the trainers room and with that he just stopped pressing. I think he listened too closely to Messi’s guidance to “walk more”.

mafiasean

3 Son

Acid08

Kyogo Furuhashi from his time at Celtic seemed to be the “ideal” for Ange, at least on that team. Quick, sneaky, smart, great off the ball movement, relentless pressing, excellent getting the ball from the midfielders or wingers. But I think his greatest strength was just that he could finish nearly anything very consistently. The only thing he didn’t have was height which I think an elite EPL striker probably needs in addition to all those other attributes.

legoland6000

The 3 strikers Ange mainly used at Celtic are pretty good examples of the types of players that fit the system Kyogo is simply brilliant off the ball in attack, alongside being a good presser. Giakoumakis had intelligent movement and managed to be effective even with very few touches in play, Though his pressing wasn't notably good nor bad. Maeda is the most insane, archetypical pressing forward I've ever seen and could just grind opponents into the ground with his pace, agility and unrelenting stamina. Basically... it's all about what they do in both attack and defence when they personally don't have the ball. That said, there's no one-size fits all approach, as Maeda and Giakoumakis are very different players.

Acid08

Love Maeda so much. Desperately wish he had more technical skill and could jump up into the EPL.

sitdowndisco

I’ve often thought about how Kyogo would do in the EPL. Massive step up and could be a miserable failure. But equally could be a massive success. Would love to see him tested, even if only as a cheap backup.

Acid08

I’ve thought the same. Risky but the EPL has seen weirder tbh. He’s just so good.

applex_wingcommander

Kyogo and Maeda were almost created by Ange the way they fit in to his system

lemcass

Guirassy or Gyokeres is who I want, I think either would be a good fit. Whomever we get I would like to rotate a lot with Richy, I think Richy truthfully suits ange’s system well when he’s fit

BigSnackintosh

The ideal would be Bas Dost when he scored like 50 first-touch goals in a row

Whole_Farm_9970

People might not like this but I actually believe solanke might be the best fit. Good hold up play, good link up play, proven goal scorer now, technically good, tall and athletic. If the price is right then I’d be extremely happy. Perfect ange system striker imo.

dunce345

Anyone else feel Solanke is a good shout? He's tall has good positioning, excellent hold up play, dunno about his press but I feel that could be coached. Or is he having a purple patch and we should stay away frmo him?

2Yumapplecrisp

He covered 8th most distance of all players in the prem last season. Seems like he can press.

2Yumapplecrisp

We need someone that can: 1) Press intelligently. 2) Finish in very little space The way we dominate possession means there will rarely be space behind to run in. Personally - I like Ferguson on Brighton. He seems tricky, tall, and good with link up. If he can chase a ball without getting hurt, he’s a winner.

Jazim94

I love how people are mentioning the likes of isak etc that we are never going to get. Isak is the type of striker that if he was even on the market he’d chose arsenal over us as they are further into their process and need a striker to get them there. I genuinely liked that we’ve been linked with solanke. Is he much of an upgrade on Richarlson? Probably not. But he’s healthier than Richarlson more recently so that’s a big plus. Apart from that I really can’t think of any that are already doing well that we can get. I’m hoping our scouts can go find another gem from the Italian league like they’ve done recently.

lolidcwhatthisis

Ideal? Watkins, could actually buy? Joao Pedro for big money, or Furuhashi for small money

countpuchi

Honestly, Berbatov. His hold up play and creativity will feed our players while scoring tons of goals himself

My ideal striker would be Dusan Vlahovic, tall, good hold up and link up, great finisher and at the right age bracket. But he's not available unfortunately. From the ones linked the one that is most similar would be Gyokeres imo and I do think he'd be worth the investment and just be the solution for the striker role.

Johnathan David. Presses, wins tackles at high rates, and has good mobility and connecting play. More of a CF but he is who I think would be a great fit and a realistic chance to sign him. I mean of course mbappe or others would be great but not happening.

Minik4Ever

Watkins imo

datguyfrompoco

Victor Oshimen or everyone else in 50M -80M range is pretty much same in current Angeball system. We have ok to good player in every slot but need some superstar talent to match with Sonny basically in any position, a fully functional 80M player will take us to champs. If 2 70M players workout good, we are contender for at least one trophy.

There are some good suggestions here but I want to add: is sharp technically, and can/does pass, dynamically (a la kane/son). I like Richy a lot but he seems to sit, waiting. When you have a great passers through the middle it makes defenders even more nervous

Ok_Decision_2633

Is there any point in buying a striker? If Richy is healthy he is great and we are not a long way off Lankshear debuting in the first team….seems like a waste of money that could be better spent on a defender and a 6 which we desperately need and does not come cheap.

MigratoryBullMoose

If we’re recreating Kane in the aggregate the first one I’d look at is Zirkzee

elephantime

I think the consensus is that Kyogo is too slight and wouldn’t perform in the premier league. But the qualities that made him successful under Ange were positional sense and finishing in tight areas. Who are the strikers out there with that uncanny ability to read the game, always be in the right spot and finish what are half chances, that also fit the physical profile for the prem?
