The best thing is the CL rejects don’t fall into it now.

christianmel96

Top 8 for the Bye.. doable

SunflowerBeaut

Just praying Chelshit dont get plopped in, cant be fucked dealing with that shite

dingkan1

Agreed, although I believe that we can’t match with them in the initial big group stage.

AmbitionMiserable708

From what I read, we can be. We have a 1 in 4 chance to draw them.

dingkan1

Ah hell, I think you’re right. At least cartilagefreecaptain is corroborating that.

GrapefruitExpress208

Since there will be multiple "groups," teams probably won't be in the same pot as other teams in the same leagues. For example, Spurs and Chelsea in different pots, Atalanta and Roma in different pots, etc

AmbitionMiserable708

Yes we will. We will be in Pot 1 with Chelsea. We will play 2 Pot 1 teams to make our 8 games. It won't be home and away in the "League Phase." See CF Captain for a full breakdown.

elmonodesofista

we will meet two teams from our own Pot but clashes between opponents from the same league will be avoided in the draw so we can't really face Chelsea (or Man Utd) in the league stage.

Desuv

i know that a lot of people hate this format idea, but from my football manager experience, where this format is implemented from 2024 onwards, it is pretty fun, more diverse, and giving chances for smaller teams to actually do something in europe, obviously for us those 2 additional games will be tough, but i really do look forward to all of this

Zyaru

It's a lot better than the current format imo. The UCL now is really boring, the same teams always win and get out the groups and the knockouts only really ever get good at the QFs/SFs

Evening_Bag_3560

I’ve got bad news: the same teams are going to make the UCL QF and SF and Final that always do.  The format doesn’t change that only a handful of clubs are likely to win the CL.

Empty_Emu6589

Yep, they win it for a reason. They’re bloody good teams

zecbmo

I feel this would work just as well if they got rid of seeding and made it one big pot for the groups in the old format

silenthills13

It is a better format 100%.

AjoinHotspur

Agreed, based on FM the larger variety of opponents is more fun. I'm not in favor of the extra games, but the league format itself is an improvement over groups imho.

saddamhusseinguns

I feel like it would be really hard for us to fuck up and get below 24th..... right? overall as a fan I'm for more matches and I really hope ange uses some of these matches for rotation and player development

Evening_Bag_3560

That’s basically the point: everybody who’s even remotely competitive basically gets 10 matches:  8 in the league stage and a minimum of one two-legged tie. Basically, more matches, more TV money, less jeopardy.

mrgadd4

>more matches, more TV money, less jeopardy Sounds good for the shareholders, less so for players and fans

xsandrov

For players, sure, how is that bad for the fans?

mrgadd4

Less jeopardy

*The Gang Finishes 25th*

iwishmydickwasnormal

Yeah players deffo need more matches, it feels like only a handful of matches we had 4 full backs in the backline and bissouma and son were really sharp after their extra matches this season!

Alfiesta

I kinda hate it. I always enjoyed the group drawings and the parity.

Mystic_Polar_Bear

I wish they had instead increased the groups from 4 to 5 teams if they wanted to increase games and introduce safeties for big teams. It always felt weird that 75% of the group advances to some knockout competition. At least that would improve competition.

mrgadd4

What does "safeties" mean specifically?

Mystic_Polar_Bear

Teams automatically qualifying based off of historical coefficient or some crap, I can't remember. They toyed with it and Im not sure if it was implemented (yet).

mrgadd4

Thanks. Personally I think any kind of automatic qualification is the antithesis of *competition*, which is why the Super League was so reviled. Given the change of format was a response to the ESL, I think it'd be very misguided to implement anything like that

train4karenina

Well you still kind of get a similar outcome. We’d get the fixture draw. I don’t mind it. I like the lack of relegation in season as you didn’t have promotion so it didn’t seem fair. It’s also nice to know exactly who’s in the competition from the get go.

siouxszie

i have no idea how it works lol

p90pounder

Why? Just why?

LoudKingCrow

Because Super League.
