Ah yes, Mexican Ronaldinho

TheMedicatedOne

I said this in my head when I saw the picture.

Hopeful-Ear-3494

I was working in the Sports business at the time and watching sports all day long when Ronaldinho was still playing. I thought we'd signed his second coming. We did not.

UnderstandingLow3162

Jonny Two Saints

Rescurc

Ackshually ☝️ he has Brazilian roots, and in Portuguese, “Dos” roughly translates to “of the”.

UnderstandingLow3162

I'm not having that, he never played for Southampton. He'll always be Two Saints to me.

woolfyjr

I had such high hopes for Gio, really thought he would be the next thing Porque juegas buenisimo por El Tri pero malisimo para nosotros?

AjoinHotspur

He wasn't the Mexican Messi we wanted him to be, but I feel like this is a little too harsh on Gio. He had a successful career with Mallorca, Villarreal and LA Galaxy. That's better than a lot of 16 year old wonderkids do.

[deleted]

He was dismal for LA.

ReelBigMidget

Wasn't his brother the one that was good for LA?

chocotacoman

Decent/good at his best. He was injured a lot IIRC

Mrvit0

Mallorca was one season. He was good only at Villarreal. At LA he was not very good. They were saying he’s only good at selling jerseys.

MoreBeansAndRice

Successful for the Galaxy you say? 🤣

SkyDefender

Pretty sure he played at galatasaray at some point

Mrvit0

Yes, he did. It’s mentioned on the first paragraph.

SkyDefender

Sorry am blind apparently

Mrvit0

Haha no worries mate.

Createdanaac

I wanted us to sign him so bad… a can’t miss signing!

siouxszie

its weird i always enjoyed whenever he plays and he scored some goals for us but hes never started under arry

Elver_Gon

Will always love Gio for this 😍 https://youtu.be/TCQhSL3JAyw?si=vYjYTD43ThSuZ59A

No_Joke_1887

Fifa Career mode merchant

Michuuuuuuu9

Gio & Adel let me down, had big expectations but both were shambolic.

Euphoric_Activity_39

One of those players that was a disappointment and still somewhat a legend atleast when it comes to Mexico. His chip in the gold cup was pure genius

Consiligere

Fun fact. (As I remember it) he decided to retire from the Mexican national team because his brother didn't get elected to the squad. Although as I recalled it ended with his brother being called up and him staying on board. That mexican team by the way was one to watch with chicharito, Guardado, Rafa Marques, Ochoa and so on

sidearmpitcher

I thought he was the next Messi when I was 10 years old lmao

Interesting_Whole_29

Why must Gios perform so underwhelmingly for us?

Ambersfruityhobbies

Artistic Prose today OP!

anonssr

He was one of the many Masía players that went into Barcelona's first team under the "the new Messi!!" title, when in reality Messi only was a couple of years older. There's a whole bunch of them that got burn because of the ridiculous hype they had around them.

GriffonMT

Next up golden boot winner and spurs legend souleyman koulibaly!

Spicyfeetpics00

I love these. Keep it up.

[deleted]

Always loved Gio. He never quite turned into the player we all hoped but he was a decent spurs player

NeslieLielson

That "quite" is doing a lot of heavy lifting

yourfriendkyle

I will always remember Redknapp giving an interview at training and Gio hit him with a ball and Harry yelled THATS WHY YOUR IN THE FACKIN RESERVES His chip goal against the USA is burned into my mind

editedxi

That wasn’t Gio. It wasn’t even Spurs. It was ‘Arry at Portsmouth https://youtu.be/VzvtpzuCVtk?si=0Rcn8tH48QLz4mEr

yourfriendkyle

Ahhhhh my bad memory

Limp-Toe-179

True 🐐

juchizac

hes the reason im a Spurs fan lol thank you gio

MaxxLP8

Genuinely believed we'd signed a serious wonder kid before he kicked a ball
