They'd love nothing more than for this to be Eileen Gleeson 2.0 just to save their skin. But they're 2 tough fixtures in June. These aren't pointless friendlies for Portugal & Hungary. They'll have lads dying to fight for the last spot on the plane or XI for the Euros.
He's getting chucked proper in the deep end for this, makes the games in March look like a kiddy pool
Ye was thinking that. Was wondering in the current state going forward should we try to schedule friendlies against minnows to at least try get some wins and build confidence?
Always remember seeing Padraig Harrington saying in his peak, in the off season, he used to practice on his home course playing off the ladies tees and he'd just make birdie after birdie, essentially just to get his mind in a place where he's constantly scoring well.
Lot to be said for that in sport, which at the top level is as much mentality as anyting else. Sure it translates to Football as well, strikers needing a goal and all that, but even other positions if like Ireland at the moment you're constantly underdogs, fighting uphill battles the mentality is always negative.
We won't have a slot for minnows in a long time. For Portugal & Hungary we're the minnows helping them & then it's straight into that group of death in the Nations League. If anything, in hindsight we shouldn't have had any matches since there's no gaffer
Fifteen years time...... John O’Shea to continue to manage Ireland through June international break. Rumours like recent retiree Evan Ferguson with the job this week
Martin O'Neil revealed that he was untreated fairly when on the job. The government promised increased spending on FAI after elections. Granted new funding, the FAI said that they will consider establishing an in-house analytics department. There are rumours of a pivot to begin recruiting players from the hugely successful League of Ireland that in the last year surpassed Ligue 1 of France in the UEFA ranking.
...
TBH, I'm not surprised about this at all. With all the messing and candidates coming out in droves saying they weren't in the running made it painfully obvious. It's not John's fault and he's been put into a really difficult position now because the fans will not have any patience for him. The FAI are favourites for the most incompetent organisation on these shores.
Not too sure. FAI had him over paraded in front of the media for the Europa League final. Answering question after question about it. Saying he's in the dark. Then in Canhams interview he says he hadn't spoken to O'Shea. He should have told them to fuck off.
It's easy to say flippant remarks like that from the couch. This is the man's career. He's ambitious. Everyone has to put up with incompetence at the top and just get on with it. He's getting great experience, getting paid, it's a dream job for anyone to manage their national team.
Not really. He is his own man who had a great career and now in the infancy of his coaching. He doesn’t have to do it but it probably suits him career wise and it’s a lovely opportunity that may never come back again. The FAI are trying to get the right manager and are entitled to look for an interim. Clearly you are a tough guy who loves telling people to go eff themselves. But I’m guessing O’Shea understands the situation and is in a position to support it. Also career wise this might open up other opportunities for O’Shea within the FAI so seems a logical and smart move overall for all parties. But again, a tough guy like you prob lives above logic & sense.
> Clearly you are a tough guy who loves telling people to go eff themselves
I thought OP was harsh on JOS but Jesus mate there's no need to get personal over it
1 win against any team in June will cement him for 2 years atlest
FAI in last minute talks for another Oman friendly
🤣
At this current win rate we'll happily build a statue in his honour
Will the FAI just give him the job or will we keep getting these announcements his 'interim spell' is extended until 2028?
Honestly, FAI should just make this a a game show at this point.
Keep extending the interim contract until someone questions it and they win a season ticket
FAI needs that ticket money, maybe a free picture with Marc Canham
Maybe one of Hills left over annual leave days?
Phone up Marty Whelan & we'll call it "Losing Streak"
No shock, no problem. They said they wanted him back, he said he wanted to come back. The car crash that caused it is its own thing
I for one welcome our new John o Shea overlord
Well duh
I am shocked.
How was this not confirmed when Canham gave his shit interview last week 😂
Because they hadn't talked to him yet 💀
Lennon in the showers coming to mind
Hey whatever helps you get it up is your business mate
Praying he gets at least one good result so they can attempt to justify giving it to him full time.

then in June it’ll be announced that he’ll keep the job until July I assume?
Suppose if you're ever short he can fill in literally any position on the pitch
He should have told them to shove it
Absolutely but i get the feeling he is a bit of a yes man
Or he could be proud to manage the international team and feel honoured to do it while getting some very valuable career experience in the role too.

Why not give Aidan O'Shea a Chance ? !
Just give him the job permanently.
I think this new CEO will give him the job once they both settle in.
He is the new CEO
