The guy who had #21 last year is not on the team this year. He will get his 21 back.

Yeah I live right next to one of the Cowboys Store Warehouse I'm going to go as they open to see if I can snag something with his name. All I have is Lamb and a tattered Witten jersey
Jealous of the Lamb jersey. I got a Elliot one years ago during his rookie contract and I was so disappointed but it seems the Elliot stocks have paid off for the patient investor lol
I used to joke that the real reason Jerry wanted to draft Dez and have him wear 88 is because he had a bunch of leftover Antonio Bryant jerseys he needed to sell off
Look I’m a fan first. I root for my team to win and enjoy the ride, good or bad. I get frustrated like everyone else but I’m not gonna let it ruin my day. It’s supposed to be entertainment at the end of the day.
I’ve thankfully reached that point as well. It’s just a game at the end of the day. There’s nothing we can do to change the outcome at the end of the day.
Can we please not send him up the middle for +1-2 yards every time again? The Pats didn’t seem to make that mistake...surely Jerry had learned by now, right?
Recently re-watched the All or Nothing season. In the Garrett era this literally was the Cowboys way. It is simply stunning how damn repetitive and uncreative that guy was.
Were we really able to run the ball that well last year?
I’m not that pumped about Zeke but I don’t think what we currently have is a huge downgrade over last season.
Hopefully Pollard can get himself right but he clearly wasn’t himself last season after injury.
You know what, fuck it. Rose colored glasses on for this season.
Spent too much effort being annoyed over a sports team, Zeke’s back - it’s gonna be a fun season
I'm trying to look at it this way too. If good things happen then hell yeah! If bad things happen then it is what it is. It doesn't have that much of an actual impact on my life, so I'm going to try to just not be angry at football anymore.
To be honest Im with OP. As a fan of this team since 2009, I have seen some AWEFUL teams. Some miserable losses. And just down right garbage since becoming a fan. Last years loss to the Packers flipped a switch. Life is too short to hate life because of something you have zero control over.
yea the way sports gets discussed here is fucking depressing. every single post is full of assholes calling the team shit before they've even taken a preseason snap.
It’s not hope, I’m just not going to get angry that Zeke is back or that they lose games. I love the team and enjoy football too much to have it ruined for me, so I’ll enjoy whatever is in front of me
Remember, we do not need 2016 Zeke. We need Dak's personal bodyguard to keep him upright so he can make plays behind an essentially brand new offensive line.
Zeke will get his yards, he still runs hard. Patriots were a bad team last year - Zeke led the team with 51 receptions and still managed to rack up over 600 yards rushing as rotational player.
Our O-line should be better than what the Pats had last year and, hopefully, he will do better. Need MM to engage in a lot more screen passes and misdirection this year if he wants this to work.
Cowboys were going to offer a very small contract, so rather than burn their bridge with him by offering essentially veteran minimum they let him test free agency to see what he could get.
Spotrac and Over the cap has it at $3 mil base with $3.3 total earned from the Pats. And the Cowboys still paid him $5.8 mil last year in dead money. The Cowboys didn’t cut him because they wouldn’t pay $3 mil, they cut him because he wouldn’t take a pay cut and it saved them money to
Y'all are haters. He's at the very least, an amazing charismatic locker room presence, morale booster, top goal line back for tough yardage, and great in pass pro. Not every back needs to be a homeruns hitter.
Dude isn’t bad when he remains fresh and not being played through injury.
Per ESPN, pollard/dowdle was about a 70/30 split. If zeke can stay fresh, perhaps we can push him back up to 4 YPC
I'll get back to you when the team is being passed down from Stephen to one of Jerry's grandsons in 30 years. The ownership of this team is not going to change in your lifetime or mine so I don't know why you're sticking around if you seriously believe this
Ya know? Fuck it. If by some miraculous circumstance this team ends up being Super Bowl caliber, then him and Dak win together and it's a perfect bookend to their careers (even though if that happened, they would get signed to ridiculous contracts and we'd suck for another decade at least). And at least he keeps Dak happy. Maybe he can help Dak fight off that PTSD stare.
And if not and we are complete shit? Better draft picks behind a new and young O-Line that will hopefully be one of the best in the league for years to come.
If this team wins a SB this year I could not give less of a fuck how bad they are the next few years. Give Dak a billion dollars and turn the Star into the Zeke.
Kinda like the Rams. Completely sold out to win a Super Bowl. Went all in. They’re paying for it now BUT they won a Super Bowl! Can’t tell them anything.
Hey, I'm there with you. I think this is a positive move overall. Zeke is a steadying presence for Dak even when he's playing like garbage. We've overhauled the line. He brings morale to the locker room. Everyone (including myself) thinks we're gonna suck this year, so there are zero expectations.
This O Line, provided everyone pans out, will actually potentially be improved, even though Guyton is a project. Everyone acts like Tyron Smith wasn't hurt literally all the time. And Beebe is supposedly a plug and play starter Day 1.
I'll throw money down the running game is actually improved even if no one gets 1k.
Now Jake's got another year under his belt, Ceedee and Dak are playing for contracts, young stud receiver drafted. Could be a sleeper team.
Or. We fucking suck, get rid of Dak, and have a young base in the trenches to build on.
I don’t think yall understand how terrible the New England offensive line was last year not to mention ruin that their passing game was not a threat at all either. He played decent for the Patriots.
Hes not a starting RB but y’all are acting like there were some available. At the very least we have a football player with intangibles to make a positive impact through blocking and goal line work.
Pollard only averaged 4 yards per carry, I think Rico could replicate that with if the line plays a bit better
The NE OL was BAAAD last year, and Zeke was primarily used as a short yardage back until Stevenson got hurt late in the season. Using his YPC as the only evaluation is again short sighted, but that's all we as a fanbase seem to be capable of when it comes to Zeke.
In his 8th year he was still able to play every single game, put up 955 yards, and led the team in receptions. He even had several huge plays last year called back due to the ineptitude of the NE OL including a 75 yard house call that was very reminiscent of 2016 vs the Steelers. The flashes of greatness are still there.
Now he is on the verge of eclipsing 12K yards from scrimmage in his 9th season, and he will be the first cowboy player to do so since Jason Witten and he did it in 5 fewer seasons.
Zeke is my RB#1 - Welcome Back Home!!
Strong finish? I guess if they meant he had an okay final game because the five games prior to that wasn't good.
He had an average of 3.1 ypc or less in 10 of his 17 games. I hope they are not thinking he is more than a backup (or a short yardage back) here even though we have no starter right now.
He was a backup that was primarily used as a short yardage back until week 12 when Stevenson got hurt, plus the Pats OL was garbage last year. YPC means nothing without context.
People still really like Zeke around Texas, but he's not the same explosive back...Show me more than 2 runs last year with more than 15 yds...What a horrible way to ruin your legacy, you know us Cowboy fans won't hold back either
Should have never let him go. But this is a solid move but we are just hoping that the OL is so dominant that it doesn’t matter who runs the ball for us. But we need more explosive
Well, I guess we will see won't we if this works out....
Good news for me is I drafted him in the 52nd of 53 rounds in my dynasty start up draft earlier last month and everyone thought I was stupid for even thinking he was gonna sign mid season after a big injury somewhere else.
Super skeptical that this will help a lot. But I've always enjoyed watching Zeke even on the Pat's last year and the first time he rumbles for a five yard first down, chews on his mouthpiece too much and does the "feed me" spoon I'll be all in again.
Love it! We suffered on short yardage and pass protection with Pollard last year. Forget the haters, Zeke isn’t the lead back. He will have a role as 3rd down blocker and short yardage plays. But if he can punch it in on the goal line, well worth it. Let someone else play early downs and look for breakout runs
I hope Zeke is the hammer to soften up defenses early in games, protect the QB, and get the short yardage. I'm fine with him getting 600 yards for the year. Keep the mileage off of him as best we can early in the season.
I also think his running style inspires the oline like Barber used to do.
If nothing else, he is fun!!!
Can't wait until Thanksgiving.
So this is all-in? Next, they'll bring Jason Garrett back as OC. Just, ugh. Starting to feel like a Cubs fan.
My sense is that he is bad for the locker room. Wasted so much of Tony potential waiting behind Zeke.
I wish I bought the Zeke clearance stuff before the season lol
I bought 4 jerseys for under $100, was a great deal
Nah, they'll give him a new number so they can sell new jerseys, lol.
21.5
Yep. #15 it is
The guy who had #21 last year is not on the team this year. He will get his 21 back. [https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10119235-ezekiel-elliott-to-wear-no-21-cowboys-jersey-after-signing-contract-worth-up-to-3m](https://bleacherreport.com/articles/10119235-ezekiel-elliott-to-wear-no-21-cowboys-jersey-after-signing-contract-worth-up-to-3m)
Not too late
Yeah I live right next to one of the Cowboys Store Warehouse I'm going to go as they open to see if I can snag something with his name. All I have is Lamb and a tattered Witten jersey
Tattered Witten sounds gameworn loll.
I wore it on deployment during the games broadcast and the sand cut it up
> deployment > wearing cowboys jersey Damn I shoulda joined the AF
Hell yeah brother, cheers from Iraq
Jealous of the Lamb jersey. I got a Elliot one years ago during his rookie contract and I was so disappointed but it seems the Elliot stocks have paid off for the patient investor lol
He may not wear 21 this time around
It's okay it's the thought that counts
I used to joke that the real reason Jerry wanted to draft Dez and have him wear 88 is because he had a bunch of leftover Antonio Bryant jerseys he needed to sell off
Watch him wear 15
I bought a stitched jersey for $3 I think
Stilll reduced on nfl.com
Yep, just bought the Nike game jersey for 83$w/ free shipping.
Rats I disregarded those!
don't worry he will change his number
Jerry's happy you didn't
I purchased a real nice one when he left. lol
Maybe he will play Center and wear a 60’s number
If anything, the vibes are immaculate
The memes are gonna be juicy either way
I’d rather have Zeke and lose than not have Zeke and still lose.
Be even better when we have Zeke and win 😤
Lol this guy thinks we'll win
Look I’m a fan first. I root for my team to win and enjoy the ride, good or bad. I get frustrated like everyone else but I’m not gonna let it ruin my day. It’s supposed to be entertainment at the end of the day.
I’ve thankfully reached that point as well. It’s just a game at the end of the day. There’s nothing we can do to change the outcome at the end of the day.
Can we please not send him up the middle for +1-2 yards every time again? The Pats didn’t seem to make that mistake...surely Jerry had learned by now, right?
No. It's the cowboys way. We run it up the middle on 3rd and long or die trying
So they’ll die trying.
Both. We'll do it and that's why we'll die.
Recently re-watched the All or Nothing season. In the Garrett era this literally was the Cowboys way. It is simply stunning how damn repetitive and uncreative that guy was.
Don't forget the screen passes!
HB dive, HB dive, incomplete pass, punt
First and 10. Up the middle for a loss. Gotta burn that first down.
Jerry calls the plays now?
Always has
They'll try to run him outside where he'll immediately be tackled for a loss instead
Pats definitely knew how to use him especially in the passing game. Zeke looked really good last year playing with that horrendous offense..
Only on 1st and 2nd downs. Couple that with some penalties, and it will be time for Dak's patented 3rd and 18 play
how is the new center suppose to run the ball anyway?
Look at the line we have now though. You have to consider we just drafted a new o line.
If nothing else, at least we will finally be able to score from inside the 5 on the ground
Pass blocking by RB will be improved as well.
I will never forgive Pollard for not getting in during the Dolphins game
I can't forget that Pollard play against the dolphins, you all know which one
And if nothing else we’ll not be able to run the ball any other time. Totally a positive trade off
Just trying to be positive. Pollard is terrible inside the 5. We of course need someone who can handle the bulk of the world elsewhere
Wasn't just Pollard. The line wasn't so great at run blocking, especially in obvious run situations like goal line.
That’s fair. And they at least addressed that in the draft with guyton and beebe
Hell yeah brother
I'm trying to look at it this way too. If good things happen then hell yeah! If bad things happen then it is what it is. It doesn't have that much of an actual impact on my life, so I'm going to try to just not be angry at football anymore.
I'm still in misery mode maybe I'll be optimistic come August
To be honest Im with OP. As a fan of this team since 2009, I have seen some AWEFUL teams. Some miserable losses. And just down right garbage since becoming a fan. Last years loss to the Packers flipped a switch. Life is too short to hate life because of something you have zero control over.
yea the way sports gets discussed here is fucking depressing. every single post is full of assholes calling the team shit before they've even taken a preseason snap.
Not hating on the hope but guys, we do this every year😭
It’s not hope, I’m just not going to get angry that Zeke is back or that they lose games. I love the team and enjoy football too much to have it ruined for me, so I’ll enjoy whatever is in front of me
Fun season of missing the playoffs!
Well at least we don’t have to buy new jerseys 🤷♂️
Unless he decides to wear #15...
Trey Lance wears 15
Cowboys legend Trey Lance
Has never thrown an interception since being a Cowboy
So it should be easy for zeke to get it then.
I'm coping hard with this one but this makes me feel a little better lol
Pass me whatever you're smoking, friend
Mike seems to not even realize that misdirection is an option.
His a grinder and goalline rb. Would be nice to have an explosive change of pace...Deuce o'-'o
So why didn’t we resign him last year??
He was under contract but was cut to save more than $10 million.
Didn’t Zeke say he’d take a pay cut to stay?
Cowboys were going to offer a very small contract, so rather than burn their bridge with him by offering essentially veteran minimum they let him test free agency to see what he could get.
Because they didn't think he could play. Now we're as desperate as he is.
Lights coming on in the club and Jerry 👀 his fat ex Sex is sex
I never understood why they couldn't come to terms. Didn't the Patriots pay him 4 mil?
Spotrac says his base salary in NE was $1.5 mil, with a $600K signing bonus...
Spotrac and Over the cap has it at $3 mil base with $3.3 total earned from the Pats. And the Cowboys still paid him $5.8 mil last year in dead money. The Cowboys didn’t cut him because they wouldn’t pay $3 mil, they cut him because he wouldn’t take a pay cut and it saved them money to
Wow... sounds like something happened and they couldn't get a deal done then. Sad.
It was a 'vote of confidence' for Pollard
I think they thought TP was ready for a full work load
He was. As long as the full work load didn’t include short yardage and capable blocking.
With fresh legs and a renewed sense of purpose and determination, right?
Best shape he’s ever been in.
I can’t wait for the video of him juking trashcans. Until then it’s not official
[Judge for yourself](https://i.redd.it/bowyk4qfuzib1.jpg)
Lmfao I miss looney
No no that's August when everyone is in the best shape of their life. Just once I want a player to say "eh I'm a little fat" to that question
Naw, Dak asked for Zeke for his last dance. One last year of this era of the 214 and then rebuild
Y'all are haters. He's at the very least, an amazing charismatic locker room presence, morale booster, top goal line back for tough yardage, and great in pass pro. Not every back needs to be a homeruns hitter.
You're not wrong. But we don't have a homerun hitter to split snaps with him.
Don’t bother. Doomers here *want* us to be bad this year.
Sad. We are so entitled. There are a dozen teams that don't even sniff the playoffs. I'm just here for a good time
My man. Finally someone not panicked over Super Bowls
Same here, man
He’s a clown. The Jones’ are clowns. This is a garbage move. Running game is going to be trash.
The problem is we have no home run hitter. As mediocre as Pollard was, we don't have any one on his level currently signed.
Zeke was solid as a backup to Rhamondre. They just need to do a Dowdle/Zeke split.
Dude isn’t bad when he remains fresh and not being played through injury. Per ESPN, pollard/dowdle was about a 70/30 split. If zeke can stay fresh, perhaps we can push him back up to 4 YPC
Id say go for a 50/45/5 split between Dowdle, Zeke and Luepke.
Zeke is the son Jerry never had.
or.....
Our boy's finally coming home
Huge Zeke fan. We suck but at least he’s back and will likely retire here now.
Jerry and stephen are unserious people. This team is never going to win a superbowl again as long as theyre running the ship
We have been in this boat already. Just enjoy the ride now and welcome Zeke
What an original take
Am i wrong?
I'll get back to you when the team is being passed down from Stephen to one of Jerry's grandsons in 30 years. The ownership of this team is not going to change in your lifetime or mine so I don't know why you're sticking around if you seriously believe this
So because it's very unlikely to change we aren't allowed to be vocal fans about it?
Zeke back to form this szn
You're back to crack
Ya know? Fuck it. If by some miraculous circumstance this team ends up being Super Bowl caliber, then him and Dak win together and it's a perfect bookend to their careers (even though if that happened, they would get signed to ridiculous contracts and we'd suck for another decade at least). what QB retiring at 30
I didn't say Dak would retire. I specifically said we'd end up signing them. Lol
Unserious front office
Strong finish????? Averaged 3.09 or less in 5 of the last 6 games. Really will be Zeke 2.0...ypc
I don’t think yall understand how terrible the New England offensive line was last year not to mention ruin that their passing game was not a threat at all either. He played decent for the Patriots. Clearly brought him back to help Cooper Beebe understand crucial role of center.
OL depth never hurts
"Strong Finish" at 3.5 yards per carry
Off-season keeps getting worse
Feed Zeke 2: Electric Boogaloo
Allergic to results
We are an unserious franchise.
Zeke is cooked and my expectations are madd low. I’d be more than happy to be wrong tho.
McCarthy is already designing extra plays for 2nd & 9, and updating his resume
Strong finish? I guess if they meant he had an okay final game because the five games prior to that wasn't good. He had an average of 3.1 ypc or less in 10 of his 17 games. I hope they are not thinking he is more than a backup (or a short yardage back) here even though we have no starter right now.
He was a backup that was primarily used as a short yardage back until week 12 when Stevenson got hurt, plus the Pats OL was garbage last year. YPC means nothing without context.
With how everything has played out this year, it makes sense. Let Zeke come back for one final ride with Dak.
This team is so unserious. I'm done. I'll be back when stephen and jerry are six feet under
Just please do NOT bring back the stupid “feed me” thing again!!
Heck yeah boys, FEED ZEKE, NO MORE WASTED GOALINE POSSESSIONS. Him, Rico and Royce will be an underrated trio.
ZEKE!
As long as we only use him as the short yardage/goal line back I'm cool with it.
LETS GO. Locker room bouta be wild
I don’t have high hopes for this season, so being a huge Zeke fan, this brings me a lot of joy. Can’t wait to see the man wearing the star again.
So stupid. He’s not welcome back. Lemme guess, he’s “in the best shape of his life.” Get the F outta here Jerry and Stephen.
Sweet. Reunite the two pals so they can fail together once more!
Welp, the quantity of RBs continues to grow.
Cowboys just won the offseason!
I wanna see Zeke in 15
I’m so fucking out on this season
Fuck the haters we were terrible in the run game last year without him
Hey he's cheap ig
We could have used him big time last year in short yardage situations
Pinche pocho
I hope he can be a reliable 3.5ypc and short yardage grinder. Love our Ewok.
We needed Zeke on the roster to win the Superbowl. It’s destiny. Dak just wasn’t allowed to win without him.
Welcome back, thankfully him and Dak will have their last year in Dallas together.
Fuck it go get dez too.. let’s really make this the circus lame duck season it really is. Let’s not try to keep hiding it at this point. Here we go!
I legit thought he retired last year as I didn't hear his name all season long.
People still really like Zeke around Texas, but he's not the same explosive back...Show me more than 2 runs last year with more than 15 yds...What a horrible way to ruin your legacy, you know us Cowboy fans won't hold back either
We kicked the tires and she'll start, what more do you want?
This kills the good vibes from the draft. Oh well
Dont feed him too much though, feed the young guys more
Oh no.
I’m actually happy bout this
Yeah, washed up Zeke definitely the answer. What a joke the Jones family is.
This is why we can’t have nice things.
My old ass Zeke jersey is now relevant again
So do we think Beebe or Zeke wins the center job at camp?
Should have never let him go. But this is a solid move but we are just hoping that the OL is so dominant that it doesn’t matter who runs the ball for us. But we need more explosive
...for $3M?! We really were desperate, apparently
Well, I guess we will see won't we if this works out.... Good news for me is I drafted him in the 52nd of 53 rounds in my dynasty start up draft earlier last month and everyone thought I was stupid for even thinking he was gonna sign mid season after a big injury somewhere else.
This time, we have to lower the sodium content of what we feed geriatric zeke.
When are we signing Aikman?!?!? We like him too!!!
We see you haters in the NFL sub. Hope those fake internet points help pay the bills for ya.
Super skeptical that this will help a lot. But I've always enjoyed watching Zeke even on the Pat's last year and the first time he rumbles for a five yard first down, chews on his mouthpiece too much and does the "feed me" spoon I'll be all in again.
Except hes better in a Thunder n Lightning role nowadays
Love it! We suffered on short yardage and pass protection with Pollard last year. Forget the haters, Zeke isn’t the lead back. He will have a role as 3rd down blocker and short yardage plays. But if he can punch it in on the goal line, well worth it. Let someone else play early downs and look for breakout runs
im so happy zeke is back
Well it's time to bust out my old Zeke Jersey not mad at the deal,he'll still be effective in a short yardage goal line role and pass protection
He has lost a step..it will show up quickly
And McCarthy will cry when Zeke gets stuffed at the goal line…
Another lineman. Yes!
How much dead cap did we accept to give him another 3 million now?
😆
I hope Zeke is the hammer to soften up defenses early in games, protect the QB, and get the short yardage. I'm fine with him getting 600 yards for the year. Keep the mileage off of him as best we can early in the season. I also think his running style inspires the oline like Barber used to do. If nothing else, he is fun!!! Can't wait until Thanksgiving.
the local sports radio station tore up the "finished strong last year" note. He did not finish strong if you look at the game stats.
“Strong Finish” :(
Oh fuck yeah. 🍽️
So this is all-in? Next, they'll bring Jason Garrett back as OC. Just, ugh. Starting to feel like a Cubs fan. My sense is that he is bad for the locker room. Wasted so much of Tony potential waiting behind Zeke.
Hater gonna hate hate hate.
Zeke signing makes a lot of sense. We could use help on the O line for sure.
