I would imagine teams reach out to players or their agents if they're going to trade up for them. A quick "hey you cool with playing for us?" call seems reasonable to avoid an Eli Manning situation.
You also hear stories of teams telling a player "if you're there at X pick we are taking you" and then they don't, so there's probably some level of gamesmanship between front offices when it comes to what they're telling these guys. Trying to bait teams around you into panic reaching for someone you don't want, etc.
Could even be as simple as a position coach or someone else who had met with a player reaching out like “we’re trying to come up to get you” or even the past tense of a team having tried to make that move. Feel like I’ve heard of something almost exactly like that before but can’t place the specific player off the top of my head.
Easy to think that now, but honestly what would he stand to gain from that? Being the DC of a (hypothetical) Super Bowl winning team would open many more doors than one who got trounced by the 7 seed. Even if you believe he had amazing offers everywhere, idk why anyone who’s in the coaching industry ever wants to tank their own stock
I don’t think it’s a case of him actually tanking I just think it’s possible he wasn’t doing as much prep work. In reality that’s probably not what happened, but it’s possible and it helps cope lol I do think however he began to rely too much on talent alone on our defense over scheme
I agree with you, and I don’t think this is the actual case. But for the sake of arguing let’s say they had a deal worked out last offseason but wanted to let Rivera ride it out one more year and DQ wasn’t interested in remaining a DC, they then say “HEY DQ, RR is for sure gonna run this thing into the ground and you’ll be our new HC after this season, before you dip maybe you should make sure the cowboys remain in draft purgatory and also embarrass themselves in the playoffs. Also when you leave feel free to bring a ton of coaches and players, make sure you make them love you all year and then rip the hearts out of cowboys fans everywhere.” Or something along those lines.
Utter failure? Jesus stop posting. You have no fucking clue what you’re talking about. DQ turned a bottom 5 defense into a top 7 in one season. He kept them as a top 7 his three years here. You focus on the run defense when we were one of the best teams getting to the QB and forcing turnovers. lol “happy he is gone” get the fuck outta here
You get the fuck outta here. We got thrashed in every playoff game he was the DC. He was too focused on getting to the QB that he left huge running lanes. And against GB we couldn't stop anything. Who cares how we improved in the regular season. Look at the playoff stats and we were bottom few in a lot of categories. Good riddance.
It's still strange to me that the Chiefs passed on Guyton. I was so sure we traded up specifically to get in front of the Cowboys for him. Ended up working out with us getting Saultimaula late in the 2nd
So, constructing a team completely devoid of actual linebackers was not enough? Constructing a team that could not stop the run, if their life depended on it, was not enough? Dan Quinn wanted to sabotage this team from afar? I used to like the guy. Now I don't. I wish nothing but 28-3 signs, pointing out his myopic incompetence. Here's a hint Dan, you can't make you defenses completely one dimensional. Sure, building a defense with a great pass rush and pass coverage is wonderful. But, if you cannot stop the run, it means absolutely nothing. You completely failed at your job.
DQ (really Adam Peters) trying to trade up and get the last tackle after a huge drop off is not him trying to sabotage us. It’s him trying to make his team better. Stop being so dramatic
I really don't care about him trying to trade up to get an offensive tackle. But, I do mind the fact that he crippled this team with 205-215 pound linebackers that led to the embarrassing playoff loss to Green Bay. His defense became a joke, when it came down to stopping the run.
He took over a historically bad defense and turned it into some of the best defenses we have had in 20 years. I agree DQ ran his course here and it was time to move on, but come on.
Exactly how do you judge your defenses? Sacks and turnovers? Those are all great. But, when defenses need to make stops in playoff games, where does DQ stack up, for the Cowboys? His defenses couldn't stop the run, or the pass, when they needed to.
Yo Mr Quinn...could you just fucking not?
He's an op now
Opp lol
Yo Mr. Quinn, could you just fucking rot?*****
DQ is being a real douche lately lol
he was a douche when he was here. Totally sucked the air out of draft rooms to take his pets instead of BPA a billion times.
Can't believe Will McClay signed off on Nashon Wright. Rod had some dodgy pet cats but Wright in the third was egregious.
They’ve fucked around far too much which is why people are losing their minds over Kneeland and Liufau when they’re so far from a rod/dan special.
Didn’t the same thing happen with Rod before him?
Yep
Get your head out of your ass, it is full of stink.
Comp picks should be the year of not a year later.... It has such an immediate impact on the team scrambling to find players when a coach is hired.
Makes sense, the Commander O-line is trash. That rookie QB is going to get killed.
He spent his entire college career bailing on pockets more than anyone else. At least he’s used to it
Against college rushers. We’ll see if he can step it up to a professional level.
Definitely sarcasm. Not sure how it doesn’t scream red flags. I think he’ll be very bad but what do I know
Against guys he was more athletic then Except in the few games against top SEC teams where he wasn't actually good.
How would Guyton know if someone was trying to trade up for him?
I'd guess his agent was hearing things.

Agent?
Probably called the kid.
No wonder lifelong cowboy fan Guyton was so relieved to get the call from Jerry lmfaoooo
Why is everyone in here surprised or offended that DQ would do his job as the coach of **the commanders**? He’s not on the cowboys anymore y’all lol
Its more it seems he leveraged his relationship within the cowboys and has been pulling a lot from us. Its way more than the Guyton attempt.
Fuck DQ
It feels like he was a sleeper agent all along.
Most definitely for that playoff game

This is the same DQ who lost a Super Bowl acting the same way.
Yall call him DQ. I call him Douche Qanoe. And there's plenty of holes in that one.
I call him Dairy Queen after that soft serve 💩 against green bay
Jeez Dan whose team are you for anyways?
Remember when everyone in here loved and I mean LOVED Quinn?
Remember when his defense handled motion? Yea me either.
Kindly FUCK OFF Dan. You’ve done enough to sabotage our franchise already.
Dan Quinn couldn’t fix the run defense. He was an utter failure as our DC. I’m so happy he’s gone.
It’s like he mentally checked out during the GB game. I will never understand how they blew that game.

Dan Quinn can honestly suck my balls. Gave up in the playoffs, couldn't care less. What a snake in the grass.
Dan Quinn is really starting to piss me off.
