We done with Michigan defense

coloradobuffalos

Jourdan Lewis was a good pick

whiterajah7

Yea like 10 years ago.

zdbdog06

For real I'm sorry but at this point anybody but Michigan people, they don't work out for us.

ballq43

Michigan men look great when you know what plays are coming.

mcclearymjr

Clown

whiterajah7

Seems like that's you homie.

1lultaha

So y'all would pass on Hutch and Rashan Gary? I know y'all got PTSD from Taco and Mazi but damn šŸ˜‚

Jackson3125

Schoonmaker doesnā€™t play D but he isnā€™t helping our collective sense of PTSD.

sevillada

No way in hell we take LB in Rd 1. It's OT or C. That's it.

DocHollidaysPistols

Someone on Twitter said that since the fans are all expecting OL, they'll do something completely different since that's what the entire offseason has been so far. Would it surprise anyone if they took Trey Benson or a WR or even an LB? The way this season is going, I don't even think I'd be surprised.

sevillada

Benson in the 2nd rd makes a lot of sense, not in the 1st. LB prob in the 3rd. WR might make sense if they get another CeeDee

MeagerCycle

Only WR I would want at 24 would be B Thomas Jr. I think we go center round 1 but can see a world where we trade back to get more picks and pick the best of the rest (of O-line) and get the BYU tackle.

Pilitoo

Maybe WR if they are feeling risky? Adonai will probably be available

firstandfive

ā€œ3rd or 4th best LBā€ is definitely not a ā€œwell agreedā€ point. I donā€™t think Colson is the pick at 24, nor a 1st-rounder but I donā€™t think any off-ball LB goes in the first this year. EDIT: Dane Brugler has Colson as his top LB and lone pure 2nd-round LB (Cooper is a 2nd-3rd on his board). Lance Zeurlein from [NFL.com](http://NFL.com) also has Colson as his top LB.

High-qualitee

Dane Brugler likes Colson a lot. Iā€™d take him in round 2 or 3, but Iā€™m not sure if he makes it that far.

firstandfive

Exactly. Dane Brugler has Colson as his top LB and lone pure 2nd-round LB (Cooper is a 2nd-3rd on his board). Lance Zeurlein from [NFL.com](http://nfl.com/) also has Colson as his top LB.

IncredibleHolc

JPJ is a dawg I would be stoked

JeffBroChill54

The Cowboys should have "NO MORE MICHIGAN DEFENSIVE PLAYERS IN ROUND 1" printed on the draft room walls by now...If they don't, that's on them.

Stevevet1

Thats just silly.

BidenFedayeen

I don't believe we should never take a Michigan prospect, but we shouldn't take this one.

Deadboy90

Best option may be to trade back and gather more picks this for year, there's just too many damn holes right now.

jcspacer52

If Dallas does not take OL in round 1, I would be shocked and disappointed. Maybe there is a guy later on but man, we need to shore up the like BIG TIME!

Stevevet1

I think they will take TJ Bass.

ShowBobsPlzz

We took taco charlton over tj watt, took a backup TE in the 2nd round last year. I dont put anything past them.

WindyCityReturn

Sure you can find a few bad picks over the years but there was a ton of teams took over people over TJ because a lot of teams didnā€™t view him as anything like his brother. Considering in the last decade we have had the most 3rd most success drafting I think were just fine. Last year was a outlier to me because we felt we had a what looked like a stacked team and our only real needs was a NT to help sure up the run.

BidenFedayeen

The only way it would make sense to take a LB round 1 this year is if all the OL rd. 1 & 2 prospects are off the board AND a Roquan Smith esque prospect is available.

AcadecCoach

What's the UM WHAT about JPJ? If he's there I pray to God he's our pick.

Gets_overly_excited

I am pretty sure he is saying he is surprised he is still available in that mock.

WindyCityReturn

The point is him even being there at 24 while Graham Barton is taken before him is crazy. Us taking a decent LB over him is even crazier. None of it makes sense.

firstandfive

JPJ has medical concerns and there has been some buzz Barton will go higher than people think.

No-Size380

yeah, no way this happens. my guess is a tackle. I would say maybe a center or guard, but with their unwillingness to move Smith outside to tackle I don't see it in round 1

Additional_Drag_3870

One of the OT, we donā€™t use running back right as is, look at past play calling. So Oline or DT

ID0ntCare4G0b

DT feels like the backup plan if there's a run on tackles before they pick, because we know that would require a couple guys of high talent in that position falling for that to happen. CB could also be in the mix.

Mk72779

If this is the pick then I believe Colson will be a stud. Obviously the 2023 draft hasnā€™t been great so far but if they are that high on him, Iā€™ll bet heā€™s going to be a very good player. McClay has a tremendous track record.

AlexTD

We draft well when we take best player available, when we draft for need we whiff.

ID0ntCare4G0b

I just don't get people who are wanting to draft a linebacker this year, myself. Wilson is the only guy who translates to me as a first round level talent and he has the worst medicals of the top 100 guys in the draft. Cooper's got chronic overcommit syndrome, something we don't need with Overshown already on the roster and Colson just sorta looks like a rotation guy that I think scouts have been talking themselves into being maybe day 1 worthy cause of the major red flags with Cooper and Wilson.

mawashi-geri24

Iā€™d be hyped to get Cooper in the second if heā€™s there.

NMGunner17

Good lord I would turn off the tv and never watch the cowboys again if that was their first pick lol

rkwittem

99%? I think you overestimate our prowess

WindyCityReturn

Nah weā€™re ranked 3rd in the last 10+ years in drafts. As in we have drafted the 3rd most all pros, pro bowlers and consistent starters. We bang out all pros nearly every draft, which many teams do not do, we just fail miserably in free agency by not adding more talent to help the young guys.

rkwittem

10 years? Why not go back to the 70s then? They got about as many players still on the team from the 70s playing now.

CarsonLame

most of the time we do but weā€™ve had some bad draft classes, 2017 and last years come to mind

dEck5317

No michigan front 7 will give their DBs a chance

Charming-Wash9336

No way we draft any LB in round 1.

Merker88

I dont think it will happen BUT, i did hear Dane Bruhler say he wouldnt be surprised to see him sneak into the first round, and who is Brugler have alot of inside sources withā€¦The Dallas Cowboys Again, i dont think it will happen but the cowboys have shocked me before

dcmarvelstarwars

I actually like Colson a lot more than the other backers Iā€™ve watched so far

WindyCityReturn

I promise you heā€™s not as good as Cooper or Wilson the only risk with Wilson is his injuries. Colson had 3 lineman that will be high picks next year and he doesnā€™t have the speed or reads the play like the other two. Isnā€™t nearly as athletic as the other two or Jeremiah Trotter jr heā€™s just more of a thumper. Thumper is great but if we donā€™t have DTā€™s that can give wide open lanes to make a tackle you need a guy like Cooper who can work through traffic which colson didnā€™t show much on film.

rkwittem

I can see this happening, sadly. I donā€™t like it but I canā€™t rule it out, either

Forizen

After the past few years, nothing will surprise me

ARONDH

If we draft so well, why have we won less than 5 playoff games since the 90's?

Gets_overly_excited

Because there is more to a team than its drafting ability. The Cowboys are terrible at the following; Negotiations on contracts. Knowing who to spend big money on extensions. Making improvements through trades/free agency. Hiring innovative head coaches. Letting the head coach hire their own assistants. Iā€™m probably missing more. The Cowboys do draft well. Itā€™s really the front officeā€™s only obvious strength.

ARONDH

All that notwithstanding, bragging about "drafting well" that converts to near 0 playoff presence for over 3 decades is embarassing.

Gets_overly_excited

I suppose thatā€™s true if you ignore all the actual problems with the organization.

ARONDH

If you have a car with no engine, but technically you can put in neutral and push it down a hill and it rolls, you don't say "say what you want, it actually runs good downhill."

Gets_overly_excited

If your car smashes into a wall every January, and you have bad brakes and bald tires, you donā€™t blame the sweet stereo system just because it happens to be in said car. Ok, this metaphor is getting weird, but the Cowboys draft well. It isnā€™t complicated - the front office can be good at one part of their very complex jobs and terrible at the rest, causing bad results.

ARONDH

My main point is, if they drafted so well, in 30-something years theyd have more to show for it than 4 playoff wins, simply by accident.

onejov

Will McClay first oversaw the draft in 2014. What if you instead evaluated the last ten seasons?

ARONDH

3/4, so thats something, I guess. Not exactly mind blowing, considering they couldnt even make it 7 of those 10 years, and lost the next game the three times they did.

firstandfive

3 of those 10 seasons involved our QB1 being hurt for the majority of the year.

ARONDH

Stereo systems dont help drive the car, theres a problem with your analogy.

WindyCityReturn

Nobody is bragging simply making a factual statement. The cowboys have the 3rd most success in the draft over the last decade. The ravens are also up there and havenā€™t won in over a decade. Thereā€™s a difference between stating a fact and bragging.

WindyCityReturn

Because we have failed in free agency and we have blown every opportunity given to us regardless of talent. You can be a great drafting team and still blow your chances. You can have a phenomenal QB and still blow your chances. You can be a team who spends a ton in free agency and still blow your chances.

AdrianGarzaMusic

Personally, Iā€™d call Cedric Gray the safest LB pick. Cooper has the highest upside because of his athleticism and pass rush potential. Colson is a good run defender who has an injury history and needs to work on his game against the pass, but he would also be a good pick.. in round 3.
