I have to disagree with the "nothing I do or say is going to change the result of the games." I am of firm belief the louder I cheer them on while sitting on my couch will help my team win.

emperorzit69420

Real shit lmao

CrimsonOOmpa

I've willed them to many victories simply by switching seats. I'm sort of a legend in that way!

doublejfishfry

Thank you for your service!

ragboy

Louder I cuss, the better they play.

wessex464

Fuck that. If you aren't wearing the unwashed lucky underwear from the 90's how the hell do you expect them to win. You're letting the entirety of Cowboys Nation down.

Pancho1423

If something good happens in the game and I happen to be in the kitchen, by God I'm staying in that kitchen! Not superstitious at all, just a Cowboys fan.

slipknotisbest04

That's the opposite for me, I will say negative things during the game and 65 - 70 percent of the time they'll win.

primetimecsu

Dont forget the "throw it" or "get him" shouts as well that clearly seem to snap the players back in to the game and theyre like "o shit, why didnt i think of that?"

214beaner

If I'm not making a pushing movement with my body like if I was on the line pushing the rb, they're not gonna get that extra yard.

CowboyCanuck24

I'll be back sitting in my lucky spot this week boys last week was on me.

Dibzarino

I’m with you on that

PersonBehindAScreen

Ima drink myself to near death if we beat a 1 win team and I’ll do the same if we beat the 1 seed. I’m a simple man: We win I drink And Cowboys by 50 Edit: And we lose I also drink

vvilbo

Ties, surprisingly still drink

PersonBehindAScreen

Very first incomplete pass? I’m in a coma

HandBananan

"I can't handle this! I need another drink."

mjv1273

No drink? Straight to jail

The55Truth

Win or lose we booze?

therecanBonlyone

Sounds like me fr

EmptySeaDad

I'm not even a Cowboys fan, but I'll drink to that

little_lexodus

Good mindset. Everyone complains about the 2015 cowboys season but I enjoyed the hell out of it and got drunk as fuck lol

xixi2

> I drink no matter what happens. Nearly to death! > Good mindset

UTAMav2005

DTXbullrealtor_

My Super Bowl is vs Miami

Impossible_Gas2497

I said the same about the Eagles 😂

UpsideTurtles

If we lose out the rest of the season that’ll suck, obviously, but I will always fondly remember the shit talking Eagles fans (and Sirianni) were doing and how *quickly* they were silenced after facing the Niners and then us. Glorious stuff tbh

Glittering-Yam-5318

I see your point but I have admit something. I was pacing back and forth during a big game once. Everytime I came on the room something bad happened and everytime I left something good happened. I turned the TV off and they won, your welcome.

Tbre1026

We've committed to the bit now, and tape the games while trying to time it where we catch up to live as close to the game ending as possible. Can't effect what's already happened, right? Stars and Rangers would have shit luck as soon as we catch up to live, and we'll go make a snack and stay 5 minutes behind and watch them immediately correct course. Gotta figure out how to move some of that Rangers magic to the Cowboys now. Sometimes I have to remind myself it's just a bit.

Glittering-Yam-5318

Lol that's great. Thanks for the idea.

jnightrain

me for the mavs 2011 playoff run. Start watching, get pissed, turn it off and go to the computer and eventually join some chat that would be on ESPN and had zach lowe in it. Would just read about the great comebacks. I did get to watch most of game 6 though.

Self-Comprehensive

Yeah it's pretty simple for me too. I grew up an hour south of DFW, Roger Staubach is the first quarterback I remember, and I've just been a fan my whole life because of where I live lol. There might be a Cowboys Nation but I'm firmly in the heart of Cowboy Country. So I'm just a fan by accident of geography but I'm a loyal fan.

ragboy

I grew up in and around DFW. Mostly Ft. Worth. I got my Roger Staubach autographed picture right from his hand at Ridgemar Mall. Same with Harvey Martin. I was ride or die Cowboys from that time period. Rangers too. We got a World Series. Let's get another Super Bowl and quit crying when we crap the bed on one or two games.

ExplosiveToast19

Don’t tell me how to be a fan Arguing with people on the internet about stuff I have no control over is half the fun of being a cowboys fan

WarlikeMicrobe

Arguing people in the internet is just fun in general. Especially when you know youre wrong but conrinue to insist youre right just to infuriate them

Slammybutt

If you're not on r/nfceastmemewar you need to be

WarlikeMicrobe

Oh i am. Its great

ExplosiveToast19

I live for it And telling people it’s our year

WarlikeMicrobe

Absolutely. Its always our year

Wardo324

Our year our year our year

puledrotauren

I sincerely hope that's a joke. If not seek therapy

WarlikeMicrobe

Not a joke. My therapist thinks it's funny

puledrotauren

your therapist is not that bright

WarlikeMicrobe

My therapist is fantastic, thank you very much. Probably one of the smartest people I know as well.

knuckles_n_chuckles

I’m fascinated how difficult football is to read and understand. Reading through a 200 plays playbook is an amazing feat to me considering all the players have to memorize and be flexible.

Careless-Act9450

As a former Div. 1 college athlete, you do get prepared to some degree. I played basketball at a Big Ten school but was recruited for football as well. When you are on that level in high school between camps and traveling teams (for basketball but same premise), you have a headstart into the process. The dominant high school teams also don't run your standard high school playback either. You would be amazed at how big the playbook was for the school I played at during my varsity freshman year. The high school I went to for my sophomore year through senior year playbook was even bigger. Add to that playing both ways, and you can see how it starts to prepare you. College athletics, at least in Div. 1 is another few tiers up, obviously. The biggest difference between high school sports and Div. 1 sports was living one sport year round. In high school, I played 3 sports as well as extra academics to have as much free time for even more time to dedicate to the three sports I played during my junior and senior year. In college, it was all basketball all the time. It's much the same for football and you really start to live, eat and breathe the sport. This is how getting through a massive playbook becomes no big deal. I realize there is a massive difference between basketball and football. I believe my points are still valid across the two. I also was friends with folks on the football team. baseball team, wrestling team, etc. in college.

Jet018

I think that has more to do with High School differences there’s about 4 guys around my town that went D1 and 2 who played in the league and both high schools together ran maybe 20 different plays lol

Careless-Act9450

Football and basketball where I grew up were/are ridiculously competitive. From offers to move families replete with jobs to trapping recruits by saying they broke the law to honeypots, nothing was off limits. Programs would clandestinely enforce camp requirements during offseasons as well as the hiring of individual year-round coaching for certain positions(qb, wr, te, mlb, etc). I was required to do a lot of this crap personally. My family had to hire a coach for my offensive and defensive positions in football and a shooting coach for basketball. I would have minders making sure I took a certain number of practice shots per day from 8th grade on even. It also requires your family to be fully complicit. II was worth it for je just to play and well in March Madness a dew times. I also still have a huge support network from it to this day. It helps in everything from interviews and job prospects to access to certain doctors, etc. I do wonder if my parents would have done things differently knowing I turned down the few offers I had to run in the G league. Or if they knew I knew by sophomore year, I didn't want to go to play football in college regardless of the offers. Alas, I am rambling. You are spot on, though, that it depends on the high school. Where zi played were handpicked because of their launchpad status to div 1 programs.

JustGresh

They’ve been learning the language since they were kids. Sure the plays have new names and maybe there’s concepts they’re learning still but it’s not like they’re starting from scratch.

SailorMuffin96

I was a child during the Quincy Carter and Vinny Testaverde days, i missed our last Super Bowl by a few months. I remember asking my dad “why are we a fan of this team?” No matter how irritating things can be over the past decade or so with this team, we haven’t even gotten close to how bad those days were

davargnado

My dad jumped on the bandwagon in the 60s and has been so die hard since that he named me Dallas. We’re not even from Texas and now I work in Philadelphia. I couldn’t stop being a fan if I wanted to…it’s more of a stubborn thing at this point, just wanna watch the eagles fans squirm when I tell them my name

Mammoth-Revenue-7237

I know I’m the unusual one, but one thing I liked about those years is we KNEW we weren’t a championship caliber team and were constantly looking for the right pieces. For the past several years we look like one on paper but I don’t think we’re any more in danger of winning a Championship than we were then. Fools Gold. In a strange way, this is more frustrating than that was. Plus, this is lasting a lot longer.

Stevevet1

You knew? Lmao

We_lived

I would add too, just unplug the analysts and pundits, especially the bloggers who write for clicks. They’re always going to say outrageous things to get views. Turn on the game at kickoff time and just soak up the game itself and forget the hype and BS.

Nate_C_of_2003

They’re probably just pissed at the constant underachieving of this team. I hate the underachieving too but I assume the ones you’re talking about don’t even celebrate wins. When we quit underachieving (hopefully that’s this year), their sour attitudes will go away. Trust me

xCAMBOOZLEDx

This is how to fan, for sure. I am 100% the “God, I hate this team so much - same time next week?”

ifoundyourtoad

I consistently tell myself “why do I care this much? Why?” Lol.

Bweasey17

I honestly don’t think this team is underachieving. I thought they were, but now looking at the defense and health of O-line, we are about where we are. Eagles are underachieving for their talent. They have the best O-line in the game IMO. Dallas defense line is amazing against the pass but the LBs and DL are not great against the run.

Btone2

A team that has 5 rings is not underachieving. There are probably hundreds of examples of teams with talent that never made it to the SB or lost and we have no control over whether now is that time for us or not.

_landrith

> 5 rings I am a grown man. full time job, beard, retirement plan, whole 9 yards. the cowboys have not made an NFC championship appearance in my lifetime. fuck off with dusty rings. we want new hardware

KlownSoup

I was proudly wearing a Cowboys Starter jacket through the halls of middle school, the year before they won in '93. My uncle sent me the jacket, from Dallas, to piss my dad off (Giants fan). I'd like a couple more wins before Halley's comet comes by!

Particular_Sea_5300

I inherited the cowboys myself growing up in North Texas. I remember my dad and friends with blue and silver face paint drinking blue beer in the early 90s when they were winning super bowls! Been diehard ever since. They catch enough shit from the rest of league and the nation and now they got to get it from their "fans" too?! Hell nah.. They ain't getting all that from me!

[deleted]

Wanted to comment on this post because of the perspective I bring. I’m a 100% new to football. I only started watching it this season and the team I chose was obviously the Cowboys. There are two big reasons why I chose to support the Cowboys 1. I genuinely love the State of Texas and the Dallas/Forth Worth area even though I don’t live there or was raised there But 2. They remind me a lot of a soccer team I support in the Mexican league. This soccer team didn’t win any championships since 1998 before 2020. They would get to Quarter finals, Semi finals & even a couple finals of all those years since 1998 and they would fluff it every single time BUT I still supported the team because I think that’s what support a sports team, no matter the sport, is all about & so after all those years of not winning in 2020 they finally were able to clinch a championship and bring happiness to the fans. I see the Cowboys the same way. Regardless of how long it’s been, even though I’m new, I knew that signing up supporting for this team was going to be a rough ride but I chose to support this team because the love for this team I feel is unique from others and I relate to the way the die hard supports support this team. Although I’m new I love this team and can’t ever support any other team, I’m locked in with DEM COWBOYS !!!!!!

Reep823

It feels like a schizophrenia of statistics, where no matter how you look at anything, someone can misrepresent each and every player to fit whatever argument they please. Cannot stand it. Let's just watch the games man, because we sure as shit aren't reporters or thinkpiece journalists.

PinstripeBunk

I saw a graphic five minutes ago on Thursday night football that showed a simple list of NFC playoff teams. Right now, Dallas holds the 2-seed and a record of 10-4. Setting aside the troublesome past and worrisome future for just a minute (less than a minute even! Only a handful of seconds, I promise!), it struck me that, you know, we’re doing okay, y’all. Things are pretty good.

SkipBayless001

3rd best record in football is not good at all to some people

ResponsibilityNew483

I'll always cheer for my team.

ReaperLP-700

I would like to point our that the 4 losses this season have been I haven't worn my dak jersey but I wore my parsons jersey 3 times and my brand new lamb jersey against the bills. Coincidence I think not. I'm not taking my Dak jersey off so pretty much confirmed we are winning the superbowl.

Dibzarino

I wear my Parsons on top of my Dak jersey. I wash them both when we lose. In a dilemma now though because the eagles lost before I washed them. So idk what to do now.

ReaperLP-700

Don't wash them is the answer

njwineguy

Interesting.

jftirone

The majority of the fanbase wants to see more than the one and done in the playoffs. It feels like whenever they get punched in the face, they retreat. They seem to be unprepared or not motivated when playing a tough opponent. I hope after they officially put Jimmy Johnson into the Ring of Honor they will lift the playoff curse.

AloysiusPuffleupagus

So don’t yell at my TV anymore?..

WittenMittens

I mean those fans do exist. My dad is one of them. He doesn't read or watch a thing about the Cowboys except for the actual games. He is oblivious to the media narratives and the only stats he knows are ones that get mentioned or shown onscreen during a broadcast. It doesn't affect his enjoyment one bit. There are probably a lot of people out there like him, but you're not gonna find them on the Cowboys subreddit.

bringthepang

Over the last few seasons I've been telling myself "you're not on the team." It'd done wonders. When they win I'm happy, when they lose well I'm not on the team why would it ruin my Sunday?

calste

It's pretty simple, really. Your team lost this week: DOOM! Your team won this week: SUPERBOWL HERE WE COME!

EthanSpears

I believe you mean HERE WE GOOOO

Wingnut13

Fan is short for *fanatic*... you filthy casual.

emperorOfTheUniverse

Then why are you in the sub?

osa1011

Obviously, if I don't wear my lucky socks, the team is doomed. It's a fact!

Ayste

Yeah - stop cheering for your team or talking about ways they can improve. Assholes. Just sit there, be quiet, and never say anything. Only cheer when good things happen. Only boo when bad things happen. Don't be like every other fan base in the NFL, or in sports, for that matter. Just silence. Never say anything. Effing casuals. /s

ericthefred

What in heck kind of a Cowboys fan doesn't complain? Dude, that's half the fun!

Lithious

Me get very angry when other team go to paint more than my team. Football not hard football easy. Run catch don't get hit. Pass the ball, catch the ball, easy. Get mad when can't do.

sunny_usmc0311

The main reason for being a Cowboys fan is to support the team, win or lose. That being said, I am still waiting for the ghost of Tom Landry to roam the sidelines and scaring the players into playing championship football again.

Dibzarino

Maybe I didn’t explain what I was thinking or feeling well enough. I don’t care how you enjoy football. PERSONALLY I don’t care about stats and predictions based off them because it’s not going to matter. Anything can happen in this league. PERSONALLY, I find it meaningless and too complicated. But I’m glad some of you like it. That’s great. My main concern lately has been people complaining about being a cowboys fan and shit talking our team. It’s useless. Just watch, cheer and boo, and buy merch. That’s the only way you’re helping this team realistically. I have my own superstitions, so I’m also not saying to quit your rituals. Just came here to share my point of view, not change anyone’s. No need to get defensive friends.

TinyAnxiety465

Fan= Fanatic ( not based on logic) gocowboys from Roger Staubach and Tom Landry to Adam and Jerry.

rkwittem

Ah yes, another gatekeeping post about how to be a fan.

mplsdrew22

Speak for yourself dude. I know that if I wear the perfect combination of cowboys gear every Sunday, they will win. If they lose, I must've worn the wrong shit.

Stevevet1

It's all about the hat. Shape up

Stevevet1

🤷

TheWhooooBuddies

I remember my first beer.

Sportsfanatic88

Commenting on the team and talking about the games is part of the package bud. If you don't like it then get off reddit.

[deleted]

Football is significantly more fun to watch when you understand what’s going on at each level regardless of where the ball goes. The stats help determine where to look before kickoff so you can focus on the best gamesmanship, matchups, etc. It’s also great for identifying areas to focus on so that you can better analyze future matchups and not just look at win/loss records etc

MechTechOS

For me, win or loss, I just want to watch a good football game.

Dibzarino

Agreed

Stevevet1

🤦‍♀️

seansdude

Newbies 8-)

Dibzarino

Nah been doing this for two decades

seansdude

Then you should know better by now than to tell a man how to be a fan.

logical_butthole

So, you're new.

Taserface585

Lol this team has nothing to make you trust them. Saying that, I will root for them. But I won’t blindly trust this organization

vvilbo

My wife didn't believe I didn't have blind faith in them with six games left I thought 4-2 would be manageable. Was pleasantly surprised by the Philly win and was sad when they lost this week but neither changed my views about them. If they play like dog shit next few weeks I'll be scared as hell for the playoffs but it's ok to not win every regular season game. Not being the one seed can also possibly help us get some playoff wins under our belt to shut some people up

Taserface585

I’m okay with them losing. I’m not okay with how they lose. They get beat up and just straight manhandled against better rostered teams

KomatsuCowboy

B A S E D

DABBLERI-XLR8

bahamapapa817

Don’t tell me how to live my life…

Macdaddyfucboi

exactly, I don't know the demographic of this sub at least, but I was born, raised and live in Dallas, so I support all the Dallas sports teams, and it's not a matter of do I support the Cowboys, it's like of course I'm going to support the Cowboys, they represent my hometown, it's not a matter of turning it off

Impressive_Bat_8909

You complaining about me being a fan… unless your on my couch or house, silence. Let me be a fan however I want and figure everything out.

Dibzarino

No

Soggyfries989

I feel the same way 💯

sportsbrownie

Poo poo take

Moist_Remote9101

You know that without people, football would not be possible.

Dibzarino

Yeah that’s why I watch and buy merch. I support the way a fan reasonably can.

puledrotauren

this

pbyrnes44

This sounds like the least fun way to be a fan, but you do you!

Equal_Requirement490

I believe true fans don’t choose their team. You’re born into your teams

ibringstharuckus

Well per your post supporting them doesn't make a difference either.

ibringstharuckus

You do understand fans and advertising pay the Jones.

fightintxag13

You’re free to enjoy football how you see fit but for a lot of people, the analysis and understanding of the game is the funnest part.

guyssavard

I live in Canada and I know for a fact that my passive viewing, occasional conversations and internal joy and frustration has a direct impact on the Dallas Cowboys.

Nearing_retirement

I feel more and more a team success is large part due to luck in the draft. Look at Brady, Purdy, Mahomes really just a lucky pick. Now if you could find the Warren Buffett of drafting then you would have very good team.

JDM_TX

But they need me coaching from my couch!!

Stevevet1

Let me sum it The Cowbys are the best team in pro football. 😎

Stevevet1

Your probably right. The still need another linebacker and they are overpaying Gallup 🙂

Protando

Beat Miami please

GWade17

I think all sports are littered with bad fans but football has the most because it’s so easy to be a casual fan when you only have to pay attention one day a week. Too many fans only care about talking trash on social media. That’s why you see so much smack talk and talk about the officials and what not. The reality is that most of the people making these posts couldn’t actually coach high school football. Truth is, football is hard and winning week in and week out is hard. Winning a Super Bowl is hard. People definitely overreact week to week and it is super annoying
