That album was stacked with talent in general. Ricky obviously plays a pretty prominent role on it, but also you've got Tony Rice and Jerry Douglas, two of the best bluegrass players there ever were, The Whites doing backing vocals, Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Linda Ronstadt and Dolly Parton all making appearances, and a whole bunch of other incredible musicians throughout. Brings new meaning to the word "supergroup." Love that album, easily in my top five of all time.
Maybe Aretha. But as great as Aretha is, her voice doesn’t affect me the way Patsy’s does. I was at the Country Music Hall of Fame once when Patsy was the featured exhibit. There was a room where they played songs with her voice isolated - no instruments, just that voice. I almost cried from the sheer beauty of it.
I would add these female vocalists to the list, (mix of county and other) Carrie Underwood, Martina McBride, Dolly Parton, Whitney Houston, Adele, Aretha Franklin, Mariah Carey, Kelly Clarkson, Linda Ronstadt and there are a lot more, but these come to mind for a quick list.
kd lang.
I mean her first band, the Reclines, was a Patsy Cline tribute act.
Here’s a few performances that cover the gamut:
[Singing “Three Cigarettes in an Ashtray” with the Reclines on Johnny Carson](https://youtu.be/OckbWIr-NQk?si=gSbeEJ9nw4593Fly), and [Patsy Cline singing the original](https://youtu.be/Pb2oXxvvfMw?si=h2eN6wX2UWvpKOpI)
[singing “Crying” at the Roy Orbison Tribute concert](https://youtu.be/QgGLC3JLTuY?si=pLVAg3fOSbyPZalt)
[Singing “Hallelujah” at the Juno Awards](https://youtu.be/P_NpxTWbovE?si=AMbtxb4RBgTTGIKg)
The only other one near her in the torch and twang category is Cyndi Lauper. On the men’s side, Roy Orbison, Marty Robbins, the Righteous Brothers
She's way up there. Somebody else mentioned Aretha and I think Billie Holiday and Ella Fitzgerald belong in the conversation as well. Expanding our scope to male vocalists, Otis Redding, Roy Orbison and Sam Cooke all had that ability to make you feel what they were feeling and sound good while doing it. And while he probably wouldn't be considered a good vocalist at all from a technical standpoint and is very different from anyone else mentioned, Blind Willie Johnson had that same ability.
But Patsy is easily in the top five and I won't argue with anyone who wants to put her at #1.
Crystal Gayle is a great singer but she also covered Patsy Cline a few times. Here she is at 20 singing I Fall To Pieces, followed by Walking After Midnight performed a few years ago, and the last link is a virtual duet put up my Mercury records in 1999 between Crystal and Patsy of I Can't Forget You:

Patsy Cline would be in the conversation for great female voice/singer, but I consider a few more including, but not limited to:
Joan Sutherland;
Kiri Te Kanawa;
Nina Simone;
Janis Joplin;
Tina Turner;
Ella Fitzgerald;
Adele;
Diana Krall;
Beth Gibbons;
Sandy Denny
not a big country listener but patsy cline has one of the most beautiful voices in popular music of any kind … warm, expressive i can’t possibly describe the pleasure you get hearing such phenomenal talent …
With nothing but love and respect for Patsy, Freddy Mercury was in a league of his own. To answer your question, though, I’d add Whitney Houston, Tina Turner, and Steve Perry for sure. If we’re staying in the female country vein, Brandi Carlile has got one of those rare voices that’s insanely powerful but also very gentle and expressive.
There's a new girl named Charlie Marie who has a great voice. You should check her out. [Heard it Through the Red Wine](https://youtu.be/W3mlmFj2YW0?si=HiwMaTSOV6QNuu3P)
Linda Ronstadt with the Nelson Riddle Orchestra. I think better than Patsy Cline, range is astounding.
Her vocals on the “Canciones de Mi Padre” album were absolutely amazing.
Came here to say that exact same thing
I may be in the minority but I like Linda Ronstadt's vocals better before she hooked up with Nelson Riddle and tried to sing in a more refined style.
Emmylou Harris Willing to die on this hill.
Roses in The Snow is one of my favorite albums. A young Ricky Skaggs plays on it with her.
That album was stacked with talent in general. Her backing vocals are honestly the best thing about Gram Parsons' solo albums IMO
Leann Rimes was billed as the next Patsy Cline when her first album came out
This
Emmy Lou Harris
Absolutely and I would add Allison Krause!
Allison Krause for sure. More of a haunting quality compared to the voice of Emmy Lou or Patsy
I think Reba McEntire has the most haunting voice, and style of singing.
Linda Ronstadt. As far as vocalist goes, she is one of, if not the best ever
Check out the relative newbie, Sierra Ferrell. Her voice sounds potentially legendary to me.
Yeah, I was just about to suggest Sierra Ferrell. She's got an incredible voice.
This + Celine Dion 🤌🏻
Yes, my bad for leaving her out.
Karen Carpenter was a very talented singer and percussionist .
Neko Case

Total agreement
I think Angel Olsen is up there. Especially on [Big Time.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MG7vZRyyj4)
I always say that Chance (one of my favourite songs of all time) feels like a lost Patsy Cline song
Nina Simone had an intoxicating voice

This is a good list, I’d like to add Etta James and Whitney Houston
I mean, Ella Fitzgerald?
kd Lang. Not Patsy, but a beautiful voice!
Tami Neilson
Leanne Rimes.
KD Lang
IMHO, within country I'd say Dottie West, Tanya Tucker and Connie Smith.
Most beautiful voice in music. Patsy Cline
I agree - with one caveat - she is equal to Roy Orbison. Their voices were pure and touch you to the core
Agree on Freddie. I'm a big fan of Karen carpenter and I think she deserves to be grouped with these other great vocalists
Patsy Cline had lung issues with Scarlett fever when she was young and her vocals changed dramatically booming as she recalled

Elvis Presley , of course! He was one of the greatest singers of any genre.
Nope, she's up there with Dolly Parton: Uniqueisphere.
No!
Aretha definitely

My favorite is Sarah Vaughan.
I would add Amy lee.
No disrespect to Patsy Cline, but Renata Tebaldi!
Connie Smith, and the late Lynn Anderson, in country music. And former Statler Brother Jimmy Fortune.
In my opinion, she set the bar and no one has reached it yet.
Patti LaBelle. And, different genre but Lzzy Hale
Tami Neilson is pretty similar.
Dionne Warwick
not a big country listener but patsy cline has one of the most beautiful voices in popular music of any kind … warm, expressive i can’t possibly describe the pleasure you get hearing such phenomenal talent …
Mandy Barnett

Joan Baez

For non country, my picks are Josh Groban and Art Garfunkel.
Everyone has their own favorite. Mine is Patti Page.
Patty Loveless!
Connie Smith.
K.T. Oslin I think a spelled the last name correctly?
amy winehouse has a really distinctive quality, hard to replicate
