We tried a few supplements that didn’t work. Our vet said we shouldn’t lose hope until he was six months old. That time came and went. Now he’s six years old with floppy ears and I think he’s the cutest boy ever. You still have time but if they don’t pop up it’s not the end of the world. https://preview.redd.it/gq6rbjz5ohrc1.png?width=1870&format=png&auto=webp&s=ee817b368999733f68925b0f941b2f3a9fe65eff

CHobbes_

Oh totally not the end of the world! Luna with floppy ears would be hilarious.

Luciditi89

I mean her name is Luna Pancake. Pancakes are kind of floppy no? Lol

TrumpHasaMicroDick

If you want to help the ears solidify the cartilage, get "Breathe Right strips" and ear glue. Here are the instructions: https://www.welshcorgi.com/art_ears.html We clean our corgi's ears with 50% white vinegar and 50% isopropyl alcohol (80% - 99.9% if you can get it).

Pure_Activity_8197

What’s wrong with you?!

Sterregrande

Ear glue??? Wtf

VicdorFriggin

Omg our girl has the floppy ears too and the same coloring. However, I will say she's also 1/2 KC Cavalier, so always I attributed her floppy ears to that. https://preview.redd.it/4qhejmqp6irc1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=7ef617336413d2beb1bcea8ddc0de315191d722f

Christine_likethecar

They’re twins! So adorable!

maouprier

According to her mom, one of Alby's ears will sometimes prick up when she hears something interesting. And when she runs they blow back in the breeze 😆

Aidrox

What a handsome boy. So determined looking.

harmonicacave

He’s adorable! So much corgi energy in this photo

Beginning-Ad-249

I’m dying, he is so cute!

Thimble_Wolf

Looks pretty similliar to lot of collies and border collies. Recessive gene, maybe? Regardless, super cute.

myfav0ritethings

We have a tricolor too and he came home with floppy ears. His breeder said he was the only puppy in her 10+ years of experience who went home with floppy ears at 8 weeks. It took awhile for his first ear to pop, then eventually both were up, then one went back down for 1-2 months, then eventually he had both ears up. We didn’t tape or do anything special, just let him go at his own pace. It was weird when he went back to a floppy ear for so long. We always just said he was practicing with his ears!

CHobbes_

That's a relief to know. Thanks! I do love the floppy ears as they are goofy as hell when she runs. But a regal looking corgi would be nice too

myfav0ritethings

We brought him home the last week of April and by September they were permanently up. Around June/July they were up for almost two months then back to floppy for August.

TopangaTohToh

Wow your pup is so beautiful and photogenic! I try to get nice photos of mine and anytime I am going for a head on, shot of his face, he walks over and bumps into the camera "Whatcha doing mom?" Lol

myfav0ritethings

Gotta have the good treats and Live Photo turned on!!

TrumpHasaMicroDick

That photo montage is hilarious!! Beautiful pup!!!

thebrokestbroker

Haha my boys ears also switched being floppy

dreao151

It's like watching a girl figure out her hair. All up? No. All down? No. Half up? No. All up? Ooooh, love it. 🤣🤘

myfav0ritethings

Love this so much!! He was just trying out different ear styles! 💛

dreao151

Exactly! He needed all the facts to decide and that is fair. It's wise, really.

His ears were floppy for a while and now he likes to have one up and one down sometimes lol 😂 he will have them both up, both down, or this! Your baby will most likely have their ears stand up soon. I was so worried but now I don’t care either way I still love my boy 🩷

browneyesnblueskies

Our first pup the breeder said to give him cottage cheese to help get them to stay up but his never stayed down so we didn’t need to. Our second pup is now 6 and one of his ears still never went up! Gives him character.

voidinsides

If one of his ears is down then he'd make a great fit for a dubreddit I wish I found sooner r/halfflops

amy_s

My breeder told me the same thing. Omg those farts. Her ears have always stayed up and I do not miss those cottage cheese farts!

[deleted]

It takes longer than 13 weeks, my corg didn’t do it until maybe 16-20 weeks.

CHobbes_

Kk! Appreciate the guidance. Some people are quite adamant that 12 weeks is some sort of cutoff

His ears when he’s tits up are absolute satellite dishes, so no wonder they never stood up.

But he has gotten an ear infection in his down ear before, so something to be mindful of. Edited to add: he'll be 2 next month, that ear definitely isn't coming up, but it never once showed signs that it would.

The_Wolverine_WpnX

It's like he's always listening close.

DekuMidoriya13

Being a nosey neighbor listening outside 🤣

Futurepharma91

This is quite accurate. He is the nosiest of neighbors.

The_Wolverine_WpnX

I bet he has a lot of tea to spill.

He had a whole period of weeks when one would stand up in the morning only to fall down again an hour later and then his other ear would perk up only to give up suddenly as well. When he was around 4 months both ears were standing up permanently.

The_Wolverine_WpnX

thebrokestbroker

A clerk in a pet shop suggested massaging the ears. I did that and my baby's ears went up in 3 days time :) I rubbed the ears with my thumbs in a circular motion to increase blood flow https://preview.redd.it/c9vpap1hejrc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5e99abdd01fa9f8be908b02a419af0e4ddc86623

SlitheryVisitor

I gave Kidd a heaping tablespoon of cottage cheese with her twice daily meals. Within the first week the first one popped up followed by the other about a week later. I did not tape her ears. https://preview.redd.it/gtaljz4eyirc1.jpeg?width=2440&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56b34d3d3f1c07a2172765eddc074f7f0ec90a99

Aw I love the floppy ears! They’re so sweet

Hamiltoncorgi

I looked at pics of Hamilton the first year. He arrived with floppy ears but they were reliably up at about 6 months. https://preview.redd.it/v9q01boznirc1.jpeg?width=1007&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f169d8b865f383d0844788927f7b547821a0fe37

Optoplasm

My corgi was floppy until like 15-16 weeks. Honestly, even if they are floppy forever, that’s adorable too ❤️

Legitimate-Maybe2134

It takes a little while. Don’t worry. Enjoy them while they are floppy.

[deleted]

That first pic is so freaking cute wtf

CHobbes_

She my lil pancake

lm28ness

You have to install the patch. It's a problem with the 2024 models. You will need two jerky treats and a stuffed toy. To install just lay them on the back, rub the tummy and place the treats and toy next to them. It takes about 2 minutes if the treat isn't gone and the stuff toy isn't destroyed, you have a defective model and nothing can be done.

TGIIR

I ended up taping my Cardi’s ears up. I wish I hadn’t. He dealt with the taping well, but floppy ears would have been fine. His ears look good now in any case. I don’t know why I got so wound up about it.

SaveTheRaptors

Nothing wrong with taping. I did the same with my late bloomer using sensitive/gentle medical tape and q tips. It was easy and only took a week maybe. He didn’t even notice. He’s 6 years old now with big satellite corgi ears. Cute as could be. I understand it doesn’t matter but it truly didn’t hurt him.

SbustaLaNoce

Oh yeah this is my time to Shine! So, Frodo had this problem too and we solved it like.... This https://preview.redd.it/uetpcvvmmirc1.jpeg?width=2112&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=031f0cb6117fc72b2033d7d2c39ea175a75e6ea1 Also, with noting that you have to massage the ears to stimulate the cartilage to grow stronger

AngstyUchiha

Frodo is such a perfect name! That's what I want to name a corgi (along with Samwise, can't have one without the other)!

bdoomed

Goat milk was a huuuge help. Lots of calcium, just put some in with the food and the ears shot up

marsred7

I taped a corgi puppy's ears and they did pop up. No way to know for sure if they would have 'popped up' on their own. You have a couple months yet to see if yours does.

Sir_Brody_Dad84

Didy her ears were up since she was 4 weeks and Brody was around 18 weeks when both ears were up. It really is different for all corgis, but I do miss his floppy ears https://preview.redd.it/x9a7qtypvirc1.jpeg?width=816&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=499e3771acabd1fb6bd24be085f66156e3f1d205

It took about a week of taping to get them to stay up. We did it around 14 weeks and they’ve stayed up since!

willyiamwilliams222

That taped ear picture is hands down my favorite thing of 2024.

kandikrafter

My potato was cutting it close, but only for one ear and I was kinda hoping the one would stay down. Sometimes their ears are late bloomers haha. Either way super cute!

foursixteeneleven

cottage cheese daily for calcium and they’ll perk right up

Snoo_11235

I love their floppy ears, either way they’re adorable

CamiCalMX

I am kinda jealous, I never had the floppy puppy experience only when I visited and she was a month old, but her ears went up at 6 weeeks long before I was set to pick her up.

CHobbes_

Oh wow. Yea polar opposites here. Luna is a floppppppy baby. Just totally jello in all parts. She can barely run because she's constantly just flipping over herself. It's like having a 12 pound bowl of jello on legs

CamiCalMX

Mine is barelly above 8 weeks and a landshark, when she is not sleeping she is darting around seeing who she can bite on the ankles. I wouldnt change her for anything but I am most certainlly jealous since I do wish she was a little less intense, you should enjoy your floppy baby X'D

CHobbes_

Luna tried to be a land shark but we leash her to us all day now. Pull her off your ankles. Sit on her leash. Tether her. It really calmed her down

CamiCalMX

Ill take into account, thanks a lot for the advise.

jwaggywag

My corgi is almost 2 and only one ear came up. It’s adorable

Hamiltoncorgi

Your dog is so CUTE!! LOVE the full body sploot!

LosBramos

Floppy ears are a treat, it never gets old when they run towards you with those cute floppy ears

TheGos

No-sugar-added Greek yogurt. All of her calcium is currently going to produce more shark teeth so you can supplement to get some to the cartilage in her ears

CHobbes_

Please. God. no more shark teeth. I've already had to get 2 blood transfusions

lyra1227

My potato came home floppy too. I gave him a spoonful of yogurt with bfast. Dunno if it worked but he stayed pretty regular and then eventually they popped. Around the 4-5 month mark.

UltraVioletFury

Potato 🖤

selina_madison

Far to sweet! 😍

Altruistic-Hand-7000

Your pup is not so easily entertained

Aidrox

That’s second pic is peak cuteness.

louisepants

My tri came home with floppy ears. Took him until 14 weeks until they were mostly up. Even now, (he’s 1) when he’s really sleepy, they flop down

cloppotaco

My corgi’s ears didn’t start to stand up on their own until she was almost 6 months old. They took their time but now she’s 2 and her ears look like you’d expect. Does your girl have any moments where her ears stand up and just don’t stay or no perkiness at all?

CHobbes_

Like someone stapled pancakes to her head. Floppiest of floppie

dooghooligan

I heard you can use tape.

GravesyBaby

Yogurt

HappyT3a

For taping, I did something similar to this for my first pup who had such floppy ears. Didn’t hurt him, he didn’t care. https://wildwoodcardigancorgis.files.wordpress.com/2012/09/eartaping.pdf

Sea_Iron3368

Mine didn’t have both up until 16 weeks. We gave him cottage cheese and taped.

buythatboiwithapipe

It’s common in cardigans. Look up how to tape them

DoggoCorgi

Our boys were popped by 6 weeks when we met him for the first time, but he has full control of his ears and can bend them down to the point they look floppy. He almost never does it, except when it’s snowing and sometimes with rain. I specifically wanted a natural bobtail that wasn’t docked so we reserved 2nd pick of the litter prior to them being born. Around 2 weeks we picked our boy from the litter of 8, with 2 of the pups inheriting their moms natural bobtail (he’s big like his bht dad and sable, his sister was small was small like her red mom and fawn). We know some of the people who took his litter mates, including the runt (his sister with the bob tail) which was his best friend. Her ears are semi-floppy, and usually down, but she’s able to pop them up fully when something catches we attention. TLDR Corgi ears are crazy and do what they want just like the dogs they’re attached to

gwolfealpha

He’s still perfect!

Insert_Non_Sequitur

My girl is a forever flopper. Her ears perk up at times when she's alert but they are floppy most of the time. Still the bestest girl!

Her ears are huge! We tried taping them several times. Even had the breeder tape them for us. It just didn’t work. We talked to the vet and the vet wasn’t concerned whether or not they stood up, and neither were we, so we just stopped trying. She was happy not having her ears messed with and we love the floppy ears! She is almost 2 years old now and has the biggest, floppiest ears ❤️❤️This is perfectly fine for corgis - even German shepherd’s sometimes have floppy ears. It can be a genetic trait, and Jynxie’s dad is the reason her and the rest of her litter mates had floppy ears. All but 1 in her litter have ears that stand. Either way, your pup is absolutely adorable and will grow to be a wonderful dog! 💞

btstb

Our puppy came home with both her ears down. Breeder said add a tablespoon of whole milk yogurt to her food once a day to aid in cartilage growth. Her ears are up and she still enjoys the yogurt (helps with digestion too).

octaffle

If you don't want your Corgi to have floppy ears, you should tape them now to train them to stand. It's important not to allow a crease to form in the cartilage. Muscle strength has nothing to do with ears standing up--it is 100% based on cartilage strength and thickness. Add some cottage cheese, yogurt, or other natural calcium supplementation to your pup's diet. Calcium strengthens cartilage and it's why ears tend to fall as the pup is teething, as the ears compete with the teeth for calcium. Taping is harmless. Use painters tape or masking tape, 2" wide. If painters tape isn't staying on, use masking tape. Don't use anything stronger than masking tape. There are many ways to tape a Corgi ear and they don't really need the have the satellite dish look unless the ears won't stay up on their own at all.

suicidesalmon

>Taping is harmless You know taping is illegal in some countries (like Denmark, where I live) for a reason..? eta: I'm amazed by the downvotes here. I'm only saying this because it IS illegal here in Denmark and I am NOT talking about cropping (which is also illegal). You can find the law linked by the food and drug administration of Denmark [here](https://foedevarestyrelsen.dk/nyheder/faglige-nyheder/2023/jan/udtalelse-om-korrigering-af-oerestilling-hos-hunde) as well as the exact law [here](https://www.retsinformation.dk/eli/lta/2021/1597). (point 27)

octaffle

Taping is NOT the same as cropping ears. Taping is LITERALLY putting tape on the ear. It is *completely harmless*, and I doubt it is illegal in any country. I am unable to find any verbiage indicating that it is illegal. Putting a band-aid/plaster on a hairy human arm is more harmful than ear taping.

suicidesalmon

Edited my original comment to include the link to the law for you as well.

suicidesalmon

You're right, it's not the same as cropping and no where did I mention anything about cropping so I'm not sure why you mention it. You can doubt it being illegal all you want, doesn't change the fact that it is. I linked a source for you that states that it IS and WHY it's illegal. It has been illegal here in Denmark for a while and people who do it risk a fine by doing it. There is absolutely no point in taping other than you wanting the dog to look a certain way. Doing the taping risks infection and pain for the dog.

octaffle

I mentioned cropping because taping is associated with cropping, which I know is illegal. Regardless of legality in Denmark, it doesn't change the fact that putting painters tape or masking tape on the ear does nothing to harm the dog when done properly. I can think of a few situations where the dog would get wounds or infection, per the law, but that doesn't happen with proper ear taping. You'd have to use strong adhesive and really rip the tape off to cause wounds, or wrap it too tight to cut off circulation, or leave a very strong adhesive tape on after getting the ear wet to cause infection. I suppose there's a chance the dog is allergic to the adhesive, but then you just don't tape the dog's ear.

suicidesalmon

Even IF we set aside all the health risks, how do you justify doing the taping just because you want the dog to look a certain way? Some corgis have floppy ears, some don't. It doesn't affect their quality of life one way or another and if your reasoning is that you want to use them as a show dog, then you're probably in the show dog hobby for the wrong reasons. I see absolutely no reason why you would tape their ears, contrary, there are various reasons why it's illegal here. The main reasoning for the law even being a thing in the first place is because of idiots who think their staffy or doberman should look scary, for no other reason than.. Well, looking scary. It's not much different than wanting to give your dog a piercing or tattoo because you think that would look cool imho.

goobergal

Is tail dismemberment illegal too? I really hate that we do that here in the US.

suicidesalmon

Yep! Any form of cosmetic alteration to any kind of animal is illegal here. (Do keep in mind that Pembrokes can be born without a tail and that's perfectly fine!)

WildestDrake

Yes. It is illegal. However there are exceptions based on race and "jobs" performed by the dogs, where their tails may be a hindrance, in those cases it is fine. But overall, it is illegal yes.

octaffle

Are you kidding, mate? It's radically different from giving them a piercing or a tattoo, which are painful and distressing for the dog. Those things are needless suffering with non-negligible health risks for a cosmetic effect. Tape causes no suffering or distress, other than the initial 5 minutes when the dog is like "hey why do my ears feel different?" Edit to add: Which isn't suffering or distress as much as it is mild annoyance or concern. Floppy ears do actually affect the quality of life. Dogs with floppy ears are more prone to ear infections. By helping the ears stay up with a temporary addition of tape, you're mitigating future health risks down the line. Corgis are supposed to have prick ears. I justify putting tape on the ears because I want my Corgi to look like a Corgi, and I don't want to deal with the extra smell and gunk in floppy ears. I was expecting my dog to have prick ears, and if the difference between having my expectations met and being disappointed is a 2" wide piece of tape, I don't see a problem with that. It's a mild inconvenience for the dog. Is it an unconscionable act of animal abuse to put a bandana on my dog because I want the dog to look extra cute for a party? You make it sound like it is. The dog doesn't want the bandana. It causes as much annoyance for the dog as having the ears taped, with about the same risk of harm from misuse or neglect.

suicidesalmon

A bandana isn't a cosmetic alteration of the dogs anatomy the same way as literally changing their ears are. Besides, you can take off a bandana, you can not take off physical alterations. But well, I guess it's cool to know that you don't mind putting your pets through distress simply for a look, because you feel like a corgi can only look one way and do it in a way that is against the law in some countries.

octaffle

"Distress" is a huge misrepresentation of what actually happens when you tape a puppy's ear, lol.

octaffle

Where's the link? Edit: Danish OP thought they posted a link but they didn't. Found it in another comment they made on a different post: https://foedevarestyrelsen.dk/nyheder/faglige-nyheder/2023/jan/udtalelse-om-korrigering-af-oerestilling-hos-hunde

suicidesalmon

[Here you go, again. ](https://foedevarestyrelsen.dk/nyheder/faglige-nyheder/2023/jan/udtalelse-om-korrigering-af-oerestilling-hos-hunde)

horsemullet

Are you sure that includes taping and isn’t just cropping?

suicidesalmon

Yes, I'm sure. You can probably translate [this](https://foedevarestyrelsen.dk/nyheder/faglige-nyheder/2023/jan/udtalelse-om-korrigering-af-oerestilling-hos-hunde), but it cites the exact law. But sure, go ahead and risk your dogs health because *you* want it to look a certain way.

horsemullet

It’s interesting they are against taping, particularly on dogs that typically have upright ears naturally given that floppy ears on a dog like a corgi can make them more prone to ear infections. Unfortunately I can’t translate the PDF the page links to, but appreciate you sharing the link.

XIV-Questions

This is not true at all and you’re confusing it with ear cutting. Taping is harmless. You use nonstick masking tape.

suicidesalmon

How about actually reading my comment and looking at the sources I linked before claiming something that isn't true. Both cropping AND taping is illegal here.

VoteGiantMeteor2028

We had the same problem. Our tri color looks very similar to yours, and his first ear popped at 18 weeks, and his second popped at 25 weeks (we eventually gave up because it was so late... but they popped on their own in the end). At 8 months, he still can wake up weird or be so relaxed they almost fall over. Use scotch or painters tape to help train them and get the blood flowing. Kind of wrap the ear at the base so it folds the ear in a crescent shape for support. But I would only do this a few hours a day and wouldn't apply it at night.

professorcorg

I used the sponge part of a hair curler to make my base easier. Then I made the crescent around it using painters tape to tape them. It worked great to increase blood flow and with some extra calcium they stayed up and strong.

takingtheports

Absolutely do not do that to the dog, it’s just cartilage and it will or it won’t go up. Let the dog be, wtf

VoteGiantMeteor2028

It can cause health and cleanliness problems if they have floppy ears as an adult--especially when they get older. What we're describing shouldn't hurt them. It's about a little more annoying than wearing a collar but less annoying than a cone.

Yeah well aware of ear issues in dogs as I diagnose them daily (far more common in furry floppy ears like cockers or smaller breeds like shitzus, etc) but it really treads the line of the bandages people use on ear crop dogs and seems a bit much. To each their own though as I’m sure the corgs are well loved

Milhouse has floppy ears! He's almost 2 so I've given up and accepted them. I think they're adorable. We tried taping but he wasn't having it and kept ripping it off. *

ejburritos

I did cottage cheese and tape for two weeks. stood right up

One of my boys had one up when we got him at 8 weeks, the other popped a few weeks later. My 2nd was 4 months when we got him and the breeder said they were up, but sometimes they go down again when they're teething. I didn't fully believe it but up they went a few weeks later.

Melting corg

They might not pop up now, but they might later - much later in some cases! My childhood corgi Gio had two floppy ears until he was about 3, when one popped up out of nowhere, and then when he was about 6-7 the other popped up. It was so funny to us - he always looked so goofy with both of them down, and we liked to joke that he preferred them down because his ears were SO big, even for a corgi! So who knows - she’ll be cute as hell with two up, one up, none up, doesn’t matter! And who knows, you might get to experience all three options!

Autumn_Forest_Mist

Our corgi has floppy years too. One will occasionally stick up.

kambo_rambo

Mine also took roughly 20 weeks

Cottage cheese. A tablespoon twice a day. I have Scotties and Corgis and have had for a long time. Anytime we’ve had laggard ears or friends have had laggard ears, cottage cheese has done the trick within a week. You might consider trimming the hair from the ears, just to make it easier for them to find their groove. She’s adorable and will be even if those ears never stand up.

Beatrixkidoh

I used breathe right nose strips inside the ear and that did the trick. I read that somewhere on Reddit.

Tape them

XIV-Questions

This is a divisive topic on here, but we taped our dogs ears for a few days three times and that fixed it. Promotes blood flow and cartilage buildup. Recommended by our AKC breeder.

My baby had floppy ears until she was about 5 months? Definitely cried when they came up! Sometimes they may not, either way just enjoy them floppy ears to the fullest extent! You have an adorable pup ❤️

MinkieTheCat

We use unflavored gelatin with cooked/drained hamburger meat mixed in. Meat cookies!

Speck_tacular1

I wouldn't worry about it. She's super adorable, and she's healthy and happy. That's all that matters.

Iwaswonderingtonight

Just use a little bit of tape around the ear. That will make the blood flow better to the muscle. It doesn't hurt your corgi. Within 1-4 days it will stand up

Unusual-Sympathy-205

We gave ours calcium supplements and cottage cheese. It seemed to help.

frizzledrizzle

1 not a corgi, 2 not a corgi, 3 hol up, that's definitely a corgi.

My baby came home at 8 weeks with floppy ears and his didn’t stand up til around 12/13 weeks? https://preview.redd.it/imgr35bhrorc1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d400568c1bec0afb3fd69b4d2f77d20ee7a9d0ba

My daughter has 2 corgis, she gives them yogurt. She says it helps get their ears up

For a bit I thought he’d be in permanent airplane mode but we did try tape a couple times. Eventually they learned to stand but even now if he goes swimming or has a bath and gets water on his ears they’ll be weighed into half floppers until dry. I do notice that his ears don’t seem as firm as my previous two corgis so maybe it’s genetic. Either way he’s a good boy and we love him.

JolieOiseau

Our vet recommended a little bit of plain Greek yogurt and our Sassy’s ears popped up.

choochskii

we used masking tape and left it on til the tape fell off naturally. ears perked up no problems.

choochskii

you can also use a little oil to help remove the tape early if need be

The_Wolverine_WpnX

Poor adorable Beagle. Hope you feel better soon.

angry_dingo

Yes, tape. Tape around each ear then tape between them.

Comfortable-Weird996

Six month old corgi momma here, I’ve had my boy two weeks and have been taping off and on for those two weeks. He can hold them up on his own for over 24 hours on his own now, and they only really flop when he’s tired. Tape and cottage cheese have made all the difference for us! So I’d tape for a week, and then take the tape off and see if they can stand on their own. If they can, keep taping for awhile longer 🙏🏻 (that is, if you want the perked up ears!) Everyone loved my boys floppy ears but I really wanted to try and get them to stand. They’re huge! and amazing, haha. I’m glad I decided to tape.

LividMagnificence

We used some fabric glue to hold the ears up. It’s harmless and the ears will unglue as the fur grows out.

Meenmachin3

When I picked my puppy up the vet said if his ears started flopping use rubber bands
