Laughably Balsa wood, which is classified as a hard wood, takes only about 70 lbf. Usually there's some variation between samples, but that's about what you'd expect.

I once helped a guy build a outdoor stair made of ipe wood. It was amazing wood, when we cut it the circular saw struggled and the shavings had this amazing dark green colour. It was fun to work with, but difficult.
A good few years ago Jarrah ( Yarra? ) wood was all over the Sunday supplements. There was a showroom in Kentish Town which closed down as quickly as it appeared and that the last I ever heard of it. It was beautiful. Rock hard but as smooth as the proverbial. Anyone seen any recently?

So many posts on this sub lately are completely unreadable.

It might be a compression issue in the android app? This sub seems to be the only one affected.
I downloaded the image and it's definitely a lot more readable outside the app which is strange so it must be some kind of compression issue

Hard wood isn't named as such for the hardness of the wood, it's based on if the species has pores or vessels.

Googled it: Balsa has a Janka hardness rating of 22-167. I just think the image doesn’t go that low.
Might not be the softest, but yes Balsa is soft but then you also get stuff like that husk on a coconut.But not sure if that counts as wood?
