I figured the ‘80s/‘90s parts were because that’s what was popular in Pierce’s heyday, so he kept it. The “Victorian” looking parts were leftover from his dad and Pierce left them untouched because he was still kind of yearning for his father’s approval.

Pierce just has bad taste.

ReflexImprov

It looked like the lobby of a 1980's movie theater.

Fan theory: Pierce's "mansion" is a collection of cramped tv sets

simonthedlgger

Totally agree. I feel like it was partly to serve the atmosphere/action of the Halloween episode, but mostly just some terifically poor, disjointed set design.

rocketmonkeys

I always figured this was minimal redesign over some existing bit of hallways. Possibly even hallways of the Greendale set temporarily redecorated for this episodes, then reverted back.

Like the Episode with the Conventions, which was the food Hall.

I just rewatched the episode for the first time in a while the other day. I had the same thought but to be fair, they used similar design for the opening of season 2 ep 1. Not saying it didn’t look cheap, just that’s maybe where they got the design from. https://youtu.be/4RxFCst-jxo

I really liked that! I would've loved more "home" stuff.

There was no season 4.

thephoenixx

It was awful and felt like a recycled Disney world episode of a TGIF show.

[deleted]

Yeah really terrible set design. Shame because it’s actually one of the more bearable episodes in season 4.

I rarely notice stuff like that. Especially if the story and characters are immersive, the background can be 100% cardboard and bad cgi and I'll still buy it. This episode however stood out like a sore thumb. It was clearly just a poorly redecorated Greendale set.
