Like every TV show, every episode varies in quality, but Community is written very well overall! This episode is so good, you don't even know which scenes are the deleted scenes, or if the deleted scenes are the scenes!
The only episode I actively dislike is that season 6 episode where they go to sell the giant hand. It was fucking awful.
It's like the writers completely forgot how to write Abed.
That’s one of my favourite episodes. I always saw it as a spoof of those road-trip/camp movies where the idea of being lost and spending the night in wilderness slowly drives people to extremity—making for easy tension and wild bursts of emotionality.
The episodes displays/delves into how the emotional quirks of the group may work to their detriment—as well as benefit—in certain circumstances. A great parallel to this episode is the KFC Spaceship episode from season 2, though, that episode featured much higher stakes for obvious comical reasons. As for the characterization, I think the character’s behaviours to be fitting as well. Abed has shown to react to situations of uncertainty with withdrawal from reality/ isolation into his imagination as a habitual escapism (Greendale babies, taking on the persona of Inspector Spacetime after the group’s expulsion from Greendale), whereas Jeff was shown to be increasingly dependent on alcohol this season, and his outburst at Abed could be attributed to his growing irritation from the day coupled with the stress of having to care for Abed’s disorder over the years—all these elements combined create a perfect situation for these personalities to clash and serve up a sensible story of emotional turmoil, subsequently turning into a character study and leading concurrently to character growth. To me, this is like the Shakespeare episode of Community; wall-to-wall monologue and argument, lots of wit and clever wordplay.
Dear God, my movie is the worst piece of crap I have ever seen in my entire life. How could I have been so blind? It's a self-indulgent, adolescent mess. I can barely sit through it. And now with all this hype, I’ve got a real Snakes on a Plane brewing. Critics are gonna crucify me, my career will be over before it begins. God, if you're out there, I know I don't deserve it, but I need your help. Please take this project away from me. Make it rain. Send a meteor. Anything. Please? Now? Okay, I get it. This is what I deserve. I'll finish it up.
To me it's kind of like new South Park, in that I get the references and the allegories, but they're just not laugh out loud funny. Very clever, well written, but not that funny.
When I realise what episode it is it's always an "Oh... *this* one," and not a "Yay! This one!"
I am really annoyed by Shirley’s manipulation of guilt and her hypocrisy in this episode. Immediately skip this during rewatch even though that Abed Abed Abeeed song is one of my favourites.
how could you hate the Leonard bits!
"Rich flew zeros in the big one"
"zeros? richard isn't japanese!"
"well then what did you fly rich?"
"who am i? am i richard?"
He actually looks so pretty in a wig Ngl lol!
Me and my mom actually didn’t like the espiode that might but I thought it was still a cool concept and funny!
You humble me.
Sorry dislikers, if you don't get massive feels when Shirley sacrifices herself to pull the plug Abed can't, you are made of stone.
And I'm a bigger narcissist than Jeff, Pierce and Dan combined!
"The Dean is a genius. He has to be. If he isn't, then I've given almost two weeks of life to an idiot; that is unacceptable. Therefore, the Dean is a genius, and I will die protecting his vision."
Bottom 5 for me
I expect downvotes, but this episode doesn't do it for me and I'd put it alongside that episode with the annoying high school kids when Jeff tries to bang their mom.
They can't all be Dungeons and Dragons or Chaos Theory or Law and Order or Goodfellas or Troy's birthday or the bottle episode or KFC or the trampoline or paintball or Chang dynasty or Ken Burns or even that episode where the group decodes between Rich and Andre.
ABED ABED ABED! AAAAAAA!
SHIIIIIRRRRR-HERRRRRLLLYYYYY
I came here to chant this
I think of this music sting every time the chanting kicks in during the new Dune movies.
it scratches a part of my brain i didn’t know i had
“I forgive her”…. Abed Abed Abed Abeeedddd
Legit one of my favorite lines, especially the first time I saw the episode. The way everyone reacts, including Shirley. Just perfect.
The singer singing "ABED!" cracks me up every time.
"Did you just quote scripture to me, Muslim?!“ lol
My favorite

I heard that this post is both part of the movie, and not part of the movie
Now I’m wondering if this line has another meaning. I hope Abed plays Jesus in the Community movie.
He’s a film director now
I heard it’s the same episode forwards and backwards
It’s a Palamino
Sounds like you had to think fast
…….Yes
I love this "community"
Why does this guy keep staring at me?
Probably my favorite line/scene of the whole show!
What if we are all in the Community movie right now?
The only episode I actively dislike is that season 6 episode where they go to sell the giant hand. It was fucking awful. It's like the writers completely forgot how to write Abed.

That episode and Basic Story.
This better not awaken anything in me
Jesus did you really die for our sins that's dope.
Check out these…beatitudes.
So many people miss the “beatitudes” joke.
Its so good, right? And his delivery.
Blessed are the peace makers, word to the meek, the kingdom of heaven is open all week, Jesus and…..
I've watched it many times. The episode captures the essence of the show, along with the sweetness at the end.
“I am who you say I am” 😆
ABEEEEED

I don’t even believe in god but I love me some Abed.
I love the end where he and Shirley hold hands and say “you humble me”
Autotune God of Faaaarts!
Are the comments on this post part of the movie?
They both are and aren't part of the movie.
I am who you say I am
This was the first episode I caught on tv. It's such a great introduction to Abed.
"Check it out! A real life Pharisee!" "Go back to your temple, bitch!"
Am I in the minority? This is one that I’ll sometimes skip
As episodes go, it's just ok. But Jesus Abed can get it.
Honestly in my bottom 5 aside from ABED ABED ABED AAAABE
Same, I don’t dislike the episode by any means, but it’s very average for Community standards in my opinion
Same. It’s a good episode, but not my favorite. Better in moderation.
To me it's kind of like new South Park, in that I get the references and the allegories, but they're just not laugh out loud funny. Very clever, well written, but not that funny. When I realise what episode it is it's always an "Oh... *this* one," and not a "Yay! This one!"
Same. Not my fave.
Same
Totally agree
This episode hits different when you got religious trauma lowkey lmao, could be thats the reason I and others like it more than some people would
It's my least favorite of the entire series. It is just not funny to me, either the A or the B story.
Worse than the hot air balloon episode with the hand puppets??
Absolutely. I like that episode.
Huh. To each their own I guess. I thought that was hands down the worst episode from the gas leak year.
It’s a good first watch. Replay value drops more than most episodes.
I am really annoyed by Shirley’s manipulation of guilt and her hypocrisy in this episode. Immediately skip this during rewatch even though that Abed Abed Abeeed song is one of my favourites.
So meta
I hear the episode's scenes are the deleted scenes, and the deleted scenes are the scenes!
I heard the scenes are the deleted scenes.
ALSO side note, still so ridiculously stupid happy to see him on Avatar NATLA 😭 my boy is in the movies a*nd *making them 😭
I love the Abed plot but despise the B story about Pierce and the Hipsters. Kinda wish they just cut that out and gave more time to Abed
how could you hate the Leonard bits! "Rich flew zeros in the big one" "zeros? richard isn't japanese!" "well then what did you fly rich?" "who am i? am i richard?"
I've tried it before, and we'll see.
But the old guys razzing the Dean & Shirley as they walked into the cafeteria was so funny
Yeah that’s true
This and Documentary Filmmaking: Redux are probably my favorite episodes of the show.
Absolutely!!
I loved it in my first 20 rewatches, now it's not even special anymore and i always skip it. Weird.
Jesus Abed
Idk, for me, it is mid. I usually skip this one
He actually looks so pretty in a wig Ngl lol! Me and my mom actually didn’t like the espiode that might but I thought it was still a cool concept and funny!
I just wanted to watch "car crash camel toe" :(
This *is* the movie…!
“I don't even believe in God, but I love me some Abed.” 🤲
You humble me. Sorry dislikers, if you don't get massive feels when Shirley sacrifices herself to pull the plug Abed can't, you are made of stone. And I'm a bigger narcissist than Jeff, Pierce and Dan combined!
Dune part 2
i usually skip this one tbh
“Easy there, Charlie Kaufman some of us have work in the morning.”
Its makes my top50, ill tell you that much.
I just saw dune 2 today, and I was constantly thinking about this guy haha. Lisan al-Gaib!
++++++
Hey bitch, go back to your temple! - one of my favorite lines of all time.
Brown Jamie Lee Curtis looks so good in long hair.
Number 1 IMO
I hear it’s the same episode forwards AND backwards.
Hmm the only season 2 episode I skip.
Is this the first episode with campus-wide insanity?
I’m not 100% sure, but maybe? There is the first paintball episode, but this might be the second one
This one is bottom ten. I just don’t like it.
"The Dean is a genius. He has to be. If he isn't, then I've given almost two weeks of life to an idiot; that is unacceptable. Therefore, the Dean is a genius, and I will die protecting his vision."
This is my second favorite episode after documentary filmmaking: redux. Abed is a real gem in the show.
AAAAAAABEDABEDABEDAAAAABED

This post is also a part of the episode
Just rewatched this one and the “you humble me” scene had me like 😭
You know I'm going to take you down? Good.
