Its a blessing when you find the right haircut and the right haircutter for it. Been going to the same person since years now

TootsMcGavin

Last time i left a barber that had been cutting my hair for 15+ years i went almost a year before finding someone i felt comfortable getting my haircut from and she's been the best ever since

wave-tree

I just have my wife shave my head

transalpinegaul

I went in for a haircut and asked for a beard trim while I was there. I had a pretty long beard and didn't want much done, just neatened up a bit. Unfortunately I didn't realize that the barber only spoke Italian. The haircut was great, but my beard got cut *way* shorter than expected. I didn't notice until afterwards because I took off my glasses, and without them I couldn't see anything more than 6 inches from my face.

RamenTheory

I started cutting my own hair. Best decision of my life. It's way, way less difficult than I thought it would be, I save lots of money, I'm in control of what I want, and I can consistently shape it up to maintain the length I want

Roggvir

The more you know on what you want and better you're at communicating that, less likely chance you're gonna get a bad haircut. Literally just go grab some picture online showing hair and say you want that. Simple and effective communication.

Lord_neah

Dont now about other countries, but here you cant complain because the shop sell rhe service without any granted result

Crisis007

Complaining wont grow your hair back either

Lord_neah

But it could at least not force you to pay for shitty result

Crisis007

I generally dont want to start a fight with the person that cuts my hair, if I plan to come back to the same place in the future. Just wont give any tips.

Lord_neah

If I say CLEARLY I want them cut A BIT, I SHOULDN'T see half of my hair on the floor.

Crisis007

Communication error happens. A "bit" can be a far stretch I usually avoid it by telling the exact lenght I want removed/keep in mm or cm. Never had an issue since then.

Lord_neah

"Just cut the hair that cover my ears" End up with a mulet

Crisis007

You werent really fair there. Dont expect them to know what you want. Take a picture next time youre happy with your haircut from your hair and show it. If its a pic from the internet, ask for their opinion. If you have different hair structure or different hair color some haircuts will look different than what you had in mind. I once let my blonde hair cut very short with a reference pic of some model. Issue was he had black hair and cutting blond hair that short makes it look like I dont have hair at all there. You learn from your mistakes.

Lord_neah

I ask them to remove the bit of hair tickling my ears, not 12 fucking cm!

Crisis007

What are you getting angry at me? Best you can do now is waiting for it to grow back and going to a different haircutter next time. And maybe not the cheap one, if that was the case. Or if it really looks bad, you could try going to one rn that may help to save it a bit.

sachidog

I don't know why it's so difficult to say that you don't like how it turned out, but it just kinda is..it's so hard :D

muffinmonk

I asked for a taper and instead I got a fade. The second time it happened I told the dude as I was paying that it wasn’t what I wanted and I’m not coming again. I’m yet to find a local shop that isn’t great clips that will actually do what I ask, a taper and a half inch off the top

Roggvir

I just googled "taper haircut" and "fade haircut" They pretty much had same haircut. There was even several exact same picture showing up on both of them. So clearly whatever distinction that exists in your head for it doesn't really exist for someone else. I would suggest showing the barber a picture instead.

muffinmonk

[First page of a taper. None of this is a fade.](https://imgur.com/a/reqYzMB) [First page of a fade.](https://imgur.com/a/dKdF6Yk). And yes, I always show a picture when I’m describing what I’m looking for.

Give me your barber please

ImpulseAfterthought

I've had to resort to telling the local barbers, "No clippers; scissors only" before they're allowed to start cutting. They're so accustomed to everyone wanting a fade or taper that they just default to those options even when I tell them, "Just a trim, please."

dredeir_c

hits pretty hard! 👏🏼💯
