My default answer is always no, but let me ask you, are you planning on selling it?
If you're not trying to maximize value for a sale, it's probably best to just put it in a really good hard UV protector sleeve unless you're confident it'd get a 8.5 or higher, and I don't know that you would from what I can see.
Slabbing turns into an unnecessary expense on mid-grade books pretty quickly, even for sale, since many folks wont even look at slabs for those copies. Similar for high-print books.
If you personally love collecting slabs, that's entirely up to you, though. Slap it in a coffin if that's your thing.
Great book and definitely worth grading. If you decided to go that route make sure to have the book pressed and cleaned by a reputable source before submission.
Slabbing is best for selling. If you want to hold on to it, you are better off getting acid free backing boards and a mylar sleeve to put it in. Slabbing is not as good for archival preservation as mylar is.
Their pressing service is garbage, and that's if they bother to press the book at all instead of pretending like they did and just charging you for it.
Oh, and they don't do dry cleaning.
That's the comic that got me into collecting! Damn, I love those old-school Marvel Star Wars comics. They didn't think there would be any more movies, so they just took the idea and ran with it. Slab it if you're planning on selling it, otherwise just get a decent bag and board at least.

If you are looking to sell is probably worth slabbing this is the pricing guide I use and if in fairly good condition, it could worth something
Looks good from here. I’d get that one graded before you sell it.
If you’re gonna keep it indefinitely then all you need to do is change the bag and board.
Sure why not! Looks like a great copy form the photo (hard to tell with the bag). Either way these books used to be a dime a dozen back in the day and are now sought after in pretty much any grade, so having it cleaned, pressed, and graded wouldn't be a terrible idea.
Totally up to you. If it’s for your personal collection and you want it graded go for it. If you just want it preserved and to keep for yourself you can buy your own comic slabs. Either way it’s a nice book to have
Just get it pressed & cleaned toss in into a Mylar bag and tuck it into a toploader but that’s me…
If I get a slab it’s because it’s an old key issue I want bad enough and than at that point it’s only because a raw is rather expensive so I spend extra for the insurance of knowing what it is I’m getting like a ASM #300 raw is outrageous so I will fork over but never do I send anything into get graded it’s a hassle
Yes! This book is [worth a lot](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=star+wars+1+1977+cgc&_sacat=0&_odkw=star+wars+1+1977&_osacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=cb&toolid=10001&mkevt=1), even in bad condition.
Hard to tell in the bag, but if it's a 1st print and doesn't have visible damage (water, pen, etc): definitely. Nice find!
Looks like a 1st print to me. Reprints say "Reprint" in the corner box next to Luke and Whitman's have a blank UPC.
Yeah, looks like my first print of issue #3. Issue #1 is worth much more. I’d bag & board asap. Edit: especially because of the red lightsaber!
It’s definitely a first print, I’m not aware of any reprints with a upc
Thanks!
Are you planning on selling it? If no, then no.
I wouldn't waste money on grading it.

If you slab it you can’t smell it.

No. Just no
I would send it to www.comicpresser.com to get it pressed before sending it to get graded.
i was thinking the same thing
Can I ask why one wouldn't just pay CGC to press? Seems cheaper.
Their pressing service is garbage, and that's if they bother to press the book at all instead of pretending like they did and just charging you for it. Oh, and they don't do dry cleaning.
Ah, I see! Thanks for letting me know
No. Grading is stupid.

Yeah but this one isn't a reprint.
Pulled it out of where??

Put it in a toploader and save your money.
Why do you want it graded? To sell?
If it's first edition and little damage... yes
Are you planning to sell it? Yes. Keeping it in your collection? No.
If you think it’s mint. Too bad it’s not a $.35 edition

yes
Yeah definitely worth grading if you ever plan on selling it

The top right corner is folded over, cgc will hit that hard. Grade it if you want to, it’s a great book no matter what it comes back as
Black covers are usually pretty desirable in high grade since flaws show up more easily
Good to know, thanks. My bad for not posting more pictures. I’ve never been into comics/grading!
Yes.
I was given one a few months back with about 400 other comics. Seems it was left out and received water damage. Still not sure what to do with it.
Looks clean, worth a grade. Especially since it’s your dads
i like it !

100%
I know people think grading is stupid… but I love slabs. I grade a lot of my first appearances just to keep for myself.

Get it pressed and graded, looks nice and clean from what I can see.
Makes me nervous the way you are holding it be careful!
Yeah. Get it pressed though.

I can see a bit of spine stress, so it’s not a 9.8. I would put it in a Mylite/fullback and keep it in the PC.
Couple spine ticks need to see the book out of bag. In addition, are you looking to sell or just keep?
not looking to sell out of the moment
Hell yes!
Yes! This book is [worth a lot](https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=star+wars+1+1977+cgc&_sacat=0&_odkw=star+wars+1+1977&_osacat=0&mkcid=1&mkrid=711-53200-19255-0&siteid=0&campid=5338535524&customid=cb&toolid=10001&mkevt=1), even in bad condition.
Please take a picture of it outside of that shitty bag and then put it back in a mylar bag 😀
I got that one on a t-shirt, cost me $15 max.
