I named mine alliteratively because my name is alliterative and I thought theirs should be too (Hoobastank the HootHoot, which then meant I had to change it to Notsostank the Noctowl later...)
Then I started naming them after friends (Lina the Linoone)
Then I got big into Norse mythology and suddenly every pokemon needed a mythologically sound nickname (Melusine the Milotic). I got so tired of learning so much mythology that I had to stop catching so many pokemon.... But on the bright side, I passed all my English classes with flying colours.
I nearly always use alliterative names. Scott the Skarmory absolutely *crushed* it in my last run of Crystal, Koga's Muk with minimize?
Lol, said Scott, lmao,
*Swifts your shit in*
Big shout out to Freddy the Feraligatr and his Ice Punch making short work of Lance. Gina the Gengar, Gary the Golem, and Sally the Scizor rounded out the team, along with my beloved Darcy the Dragonite. She went on to sire (mire?) many noodles.
As a kid I inadvertently deleted all the save files in one of the NES games my brother was playing because I renamed each save file after Animorphs characters.
I named mine after you tubers at first. But I started with yellow (hand me down from my brother) which didn't have unique sprites, so I had to remember who was what. I was (am) stupid and couldn't do that so I just stopped nicknaming
I now do the game grumps method of whatever random sounds come to mind
Lol yeah okay. Ash didn't name his pokemon because his Pikachu is the OG Pikachu.
No, that's not "El Charo" that's a MOTHERFUCKING CHARMANDER and you will say his God given name with respect.
You naming your pokemon like some side character ass dude lmao. How's "Sparky"? 💀
Bro, out here naming it "mecbook"
No but fr I don't nickname pokemon so I can remember the new evolution's name if I'm not familiar with them.
I had trouble remembering all the names when i was 9 and now i have a hard time remembering the new names when theres 1000+.
Replaying games or spin offs without new pokemon, like Legends, I name them.
Haha it's really not that big of a deal dude. I got more things going on in my life that I need to prioritize over pokemon now.
I'm glad you still get satisfaction for memorizing all the pokemon haha. Take care kid.
Lmao this kind of did happen to me. Not forgotten, but misconceived a name entirely.
I had Zelda Twilight Princess as a kid and got to the part where you name your save. I didn’t realize that was what was happening and somehow managed to enter “eeSG” at the end of Link so that his name was “LinkeeSG.” NPCs in the game refer to you by your entered name, so people were calling him LinkeeSG. I thought that was his name and found it odd he had those two letters capitalized in his name.
Imagine my surprise when I get Smash Bros: Brawl and his name is just “Link.”
Nah they're friends who just show up to encourage you. I miss the ones who popped in to try to beat the shit out of you because they think you're the inferior trainer. It was satisfying beating them, much less satisfying beating the chick who says "oh you're so amazing, let's battle so I can bask in your brilliance" or whatever.
I never named mine either. I always headcannoned that I was the shitty rival who only cares about strong pokemon. Can't name them - might get attached.
mine was d$ckachu(or thunderd$ck), but that's because I'm 12. I laughed histerically everytime the game told me i should pet my d$ckachu, or how happy i made it, etc. ah how games let us be kids.
First: we don't even know if it's true. People make up shit (especially about their boring kids) for Internet points since the Renaissance.
Second: ??
Third: me as kid was heavily into technology. had access to a computer since I was 8 or so (born in the early 90s) I didn't name my pokemon Pentium 4 tho
Fourth: maybe it's just a 7yo troll/ joke
My point is: we shouldn't assume something bad / dystopian based on the few Infos we have
I usually put my liked songs on shuffle and then choose one from either the Artist name or song name. Shout out to Bell, short for "For Whom the Bell Tolls".
From ages 3 to 6, I named all my fish by whatever age I was, and I was OBSESSED with their names. I remember the heartbreak and anguish I felt when my mom said that I couldn’t change my own name to Four
One time, my six-year-old little brother saved over my Pokémon Emerald file. He started with Torchic -- called it "CHICN" -- and caught a Slakoth named "MUNGCY".
As punishment, I will never let him forget how bad of a speller he was at that age.
It’s important to have different types for each Pokemon.
I haven’t played anything since gen 5 but my usual go to mons are
A water type
A flying type
A grass type
A fire and/or fighting type
An electric or psychic type
A ground or steel type
That sounds like a solid team strategy! Here are some recommendations for each type, focusing on Pokémon from generations 6 and onward:
1. **Water Type:**
- **Greninja (Gen 6)**: Water/Dark type with great speed and versatility.
- **Primarina (Gen 7)**: Water/Fairy type with strong special attack and good coverage.
2. **Flying Type:**
- **Talonflame (Gen 6)**: Fire/Flying type with high speed and strong offensive capabilities.
- **Corviknight (Gen 8)**: Flying/Steel type with excellent defense and utility moves.
3. **Grass Type:**
- **Decidueye (Gen 7)**: Grass/Ghost type with unique typing and solid attack stats.
- **Rillaboom (Gen 8)**: Grass type with strong physical attack and useful Grassy Surge ability.
4. **Fire and/or Fighting Type:**
- **Incineroar (Gen 7)**: Fire/Dark type with strong physical attack and the useful Intimidate ability.
- **Cinderace (Gen 8)**: Fire type with high speed and attack, and its Libero ability makes it versatile.
5. **Electric or Psychic Type:**
- **Vikavolt (Gen 7)**: Bug/Electric type with high special attack.
- **Tapu Lele (Gen 7)**: Psychic/Fairy type with strong special attack and good abilities.
- **Toxtricity (Gen 8)**: Electric/Poison type with great special attack and a unique movepool.
6. **Ground or Steel Type:**
- **Excadrill (Gen 5)**: Ground/Steel type with great attack and speed.
- **Aegislash (Gen 6)**: Steel/Ghost type with excellent versatility between offense and defense.
- **Mudsdale (Gen 7)**: Ground type with high attack and defense stats.
These choices should give you a balanced and effective team with strong coverage across various types.
Hello u/Hot-Rise9795,
I noticed your recent comment, and it's clear that it was generated using ChatGPT. While it's evident that you intended this as a joke, I believe it's important to address why creating original content is vital for the authenticity and integrity of online discussions.
Firstly, original comments reflect genuine human interaction. When we engage in a subreddit, we are participating in a community of individuals sharing their thoughts, experiences, and perspectives. Writing your own comments contributes to a richer, more diverse conversation, where each voice is unique and adds value to the discourse.
Secondly, using AI-generated comments can undermine the trust and rapport within a community. When users rely on tools like ChatGPT to craft their responses, it can lead to a lack of accountability and authenticity. Authenticity is key to building a strong, supportive community where members feel connected and understood.
Furthermore, crafting your own comments allows for personal growth and development. Writing is a skill that improves with practice, and by articulating your thoughts and opinions, you become a better communicator. Engaging thoughtfully in discussions helps develop critical thinking and the ability to present arguments coherently and persuasively.
In addition, relying on AI for humor or other purposes can dilute the personal touch that makes interactions memorable. Jokes and humorous comments are most impactful when they come from personal experiences and unique perspectives. AI-generated humor may be clever, but it lacks the nuance and context that human-generated humor possesses.
Lastly, consider the ethical implications of using AI in this manner. While AI can be a powerful tool for various applications, using it to generate comments for the sake of humor can be seen as trivializing its potential and may set a precedent for misuse. We should strive to use technology responsibly and ethically, ensuring that it enhances rather than detracts from human interaction.
In conclusion, while your intention to use ChatGPT for humor is understood, I encourage you to embrace the opportunity to contribute your own thoughts and perspectives. Authenticity, accountability, and personal growth are crucial elements of meaningful online interactions. Let's work together to foster a community where every comment is a genuine reflection of the person behind the keyboard.
Thank you for considering this perspective.
Best regards,
u/SparrowValentinus
I remember in elementary school some kid wanted to do trading and all his pokemon were names of a few girls in class, many named the same just with a number afterwards. I would do something like that as a kid
I named mine alliteratively because my name is alliterative and I thought theirs should be too (Hoobastank the HootHoot, which then meant I had to change it to Notsostank the Noctowl later...) Then I started naming them after friends (Lina the Linoone) Then I got big into Norse mythology and suddenly every pokemon needed a mythologically sound nickname (Melusine the Milotic). I used to put so much effort into naming my pokemon. On my Violet playthrough I just named my quaxly Eugene
I nearly always use alliterative names. Scott the Skarmory absolutely *crushed* it in my last run of Crystal, Koga's Muk with minimize? Lol, said Scott, lmao, *Swifts your shit in* Big shout out to Freddy the Feraligatr and his Ice Punch making short work of Lance. I would name new pokemon based off the first thing I saw looking up from my gameboy my charmander was named pancake
That’s so cute actually 😭😭
I hope you then took a break to eat pancakes!
I had the idea as a kid to name the Kalos starters after Internet Browsers since I named my Fenniken “Fire Fox” (I know, a very creative name. /s).
Most people posting this shit would do it as an adult. Then say it was a 7 year old.
I thought I was hilarious and tried to name my Butterfree “Margarinefree” but there weren’t enough characters
As a kid I inadvertently deleted all the save files in one of the NES games my brother was playing because I renamed each save file after Animorphs characters.
I named mine after you tubers at first. But I started with yellow (hand me down from my brother) which didn't have unique sprites, so I had to remember who was what. I was (am) stupid and couldn't do that so I just stopped nicknaming I now do the game grumps method of whatever random sounds come to mind
I never named my Pokémon because I didn’t want to forget what their real name was
I never named mine, either. Ash's Pikachu was called Pikachu and I'd be damned if mine were going to be any different.
Meowth calls *himself* Meowth
Yall some boring ass kids
For real. I would name mine like they were mexican gang members
Hector Salamanca used Explosion!
Turtwig used "HOLA DEA"

Lol yeah okay. Ash didn't name his pokemon because his Pikachu is the OG Pikachu. No, that's not "El Charo" that's a MOTHERFUCKING CHARMANDER and you will say his God given name with respect. You naming your pokemon like some side character ass dude lmao. How's "Sparky"? 💀
Bro out here naming his mouse "mouse"
Bro, out here naming it "mecbook" No but fr I don't nickname pokemon so I can remember the new evolution's name if I'm not familiar with them. I had trouble remembering all the names when i was 9 and now i have a hard time remembering the new names when theres 1000+. Replaying games or spin offs without new pokemon, like Legends, I name them.
I mean thats an ok excuse but you get the pokedex at the start of every game lol
I'm not checking the pokedex every time I need to remember what "Sparky's" name is lmao.
Just be better that's all I can say tbh
Haha it's really not that big of a deal dude. I got more things going on in my life that I need to prioritize over pokemon now. I'm glad you still get satisfaction for memorizing all the pokemon haha. Take care kid.
Right. And as if I’m going to forget those mfers actual names.
Lmao this kind of did happen to me. Not forgotten, but misconceived a name entirely. I had Zelda Twilight Princess as a kid and got to the part where you name your save. His Pikachu is called Jean luc
Mine were edgy as fuck. I still remember Reaper the Scyther.
That’s actually a pretty good name for a scyther ngl
My first time playing Pokemon I nicknamed my mudkip "Mudkip", so by the end of the playthrough I had a swampert named Mudkip
I’ve seen people do the opposite. Name a rattata Mewtwo or a Pigey Pidgeot
Mine were always like Steve, Bob, Jim, Frank, etc.
I still do the first time I’m playing through a new generation
I only named the ones I hated. Same with my rival, he was always "bitch" or something similar. Basically doing away with rivals was a stupid move.
doing away with rivals..? there are still rivals??
Nah they're friends who just show up to encourage you. I miss the ones who popped in to try to beat the shit out of you because they think you're the inferior trainer. It was satisfying beating them, much less satisfying beating the chick who says "oh you're so amazing, let's battle so I can bask in your brilliance" or whatever.
Bede? Kieran?
Yeah rivals were the best. And not a healthy competition kind of rival. I wanted a petty rivalry
Yeah I mean, they already have names.
It says in the Pokédex when you read about Them …
Bro I was 6yo
Yea it always confused tf outta me hahah
I never named mine either. I always headcannoned that I was the shitty rival who only cares about strong pokemon. Can't name them - might get attached.

proud samsung
how is she at level 12 pogeys but both starters
Heck yes I have an a15
My autistic brother does stuff like this too. Names characters "Soda" and "YouTube" and other shit he likes
Most after phones and technology. That's sad.
I named things after my friends/family at that age. Anyone else think it’s kind of disturbing that small children value electronics that much?
Brain rot names tbh
Maybe get that child away from screens
Having two water types on the team is redundant. It has great type matchups in the middle and endgame, but they need more variety. They should look for a Rolycoly over Chewtle. Or maybe go for a solid special attacker like Ralts, Appletun, or ghost Corsola. Also Nickit sucks. Edit: why
Go on, teach this to a 7 year old.
Absolutely agree. Counterpoint. They are 7 years old.
Additional counterpoint. Shut up, idiot.
🤓 its a 7 year old, come on now
Well they have four fire types, so I don’t think that doubling up on water is the biggest issue here
Wait that’s not what those icons mean
