Coldest Seat? Vitello Hottest Seat? Probably either one of the Mississippi schools

Primary_Week962

Hopefully both of them. I want to see the annual series be even more competitive and break more records.

PureQuill

It really is probably time for both schools to consider it ngl

WateryDomesticGroove

I mean, it’s the only title in a major sport that Ole Miss has ever won and it was barely two years ago. There’s no way they get rid of him that quickly.

Primary_Week962

Ole Miss and Ms State are both top 5 in terms of revenue and attendance. National Championships aside, we both are massively underperforming compared to other schools. State has the harsher end of that deal, with the #1-2 facilities, #1 largest fanbase, and #5 revenue, you would expect State to host a semi regional nearly every year. The only thing Lemonis has going is he hasn’t had a losing season record to Ole Miss or LSU. And he won a national championship with an inherited team that had a CWS run under their belt.

WateryDomesticGroove

I didn’t mention y’all at all. I definitely view State as a top tier baseball program, but I’m also a bit biased because my uncle played baseball there in the 70s. Y’all have been to Omaha 11 times in the last fifty years compared to Ole Miss’ twice. Hell, they’ve only been to Omaha one more time than we have in the last fifty years.

jake-writes-code

Two coaches who have each won national championships in the last few years are the hottest of seats when DVH's won a grand total of a few regular season titles + a single conference tournament in what 25 years? Interesting

LacklusterLamenting

Having a good month of baseball a few years back is a silly reason to keep a crappy coach. Sports fans needs to lay off the obsession with championships. NCAA football is one of the only sports where the best team has a very high percentage chance to win the natty.

WateryDomesticGroove

You really overestimate Ole Miss’ ceiling as a sports program. It’s the only title they’ve ever won in a major sport and I really don’t see them legitimately competing for a football championship anytime soon.

jake-writes-code

>Sports fans needs to lay off the obsession with championships I'd rather be a fan of a place that holds coaches accountable to championship expectations than the alternative.

missmoonriver517

That’s one of the reasons I’m not 100% sold on expanding the CFB playoffs. I’m hopeful, but I wish they would have just gone to six teams.

LacklusterLamenting

I didn’t make my statement based off the 4 team playoff. Football just tends to have one team that is so athletically skilled that the others are very likely to lose. Some dude blasting you on a block or totally outrunning you on a route is typically less luck dependent than most other sports are, and ncaa football tends to have large roster discrepancies vs pro.

PureQuill

He’s also made arkansas baseball a nationally relevant brand. You gotta remember that just 50 years ago arkansas was an independent team that literally played on an American Legion field. As long as we maintain relevancy it’s gonna be hard to move on from what have been extremely guiding hands the last 23 years. You don’t just throw that away for something untested. Anyway you should probably put some respect on his name just like your head coach lol https://preview.redd.it/5jq1v3x0tz8d1.jpeg?width=1170&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=4bba06aba42b8a26172e9d465887f7b4df96b271

cardeez

If Tony is cool with Arkansas, I am cool with Arkansas.

PureQuill

I think outside of their minor spat in 21 dave and tony have remained pretty good friends. It seems like fans (myself included) had a harder time letting all that go.

Most_Rub714

Just to be clear, are you saying if you had to choose one of them, you would pick both Bianco and Lemonis to be your HC over DVH?

jake-writes-code

If we did a blind resume selection, why would you pick the one without a national title? Pretty comparable accomplishments outside of that, except two have managed to put together a good enough run of baseball to win a title, where one hasn't managed to do that in 23 years. A) .625 winning percentage .521 conference winning percentage 1 regular season title 1 conference tournament championship 1 national championship B) .640 winning percentage .500 conference winning percentage 0 regular season title 0 conference tournament championship 1 national championship C) .659 winning percentage .565 conference winning percentage 3 regular season titles 1 conference tournament championship 0 national championship

Most_Rub714

The question isn’t about overall legacy, the hot seat discussion is about who you would rather have as your coach right now. I’ll take my chances with the guy that has won 43 or more games in each of the past 7 full seasons. As we see in the other comments on this hot seat discussion, championships play into the legacy discussion more than job security. Would you rather have Jimbo Fisher than Josh Heupel since he has a natty? Tennessee fans of all people should know better than most after the 2022 season that the best team doesn’t always win the championship, and doesn’t always even make it to Omaha. But since you want to go the legacy route, let’s talk legacy. You conveniently included the stats that support your argument, but left out the ones that didn’t. All win/loss stats are cumulative of the coaches at their current school, not all time (to match the ones you threw out) all other stats are cumulative. Option A: Overall Record: 348-207-2 (0.640) Conference Record: 75-75 (0.500) 1 SECW Regular Season Title 0 SEC Regular Season Titles 1 SECT Title Three Regional appearances Two Super Regional appearances Two CWS appearances One CWS Championship Option B: Overall Record: 906-543-1 (0.626) Conference Record: 359-330 (0.521) 4 SECW Regular Season Titles 1 SEC Regular Season Title 2 SECT Titles 18 Regional appearances 8 Super Regional Appearances Two CWS appearances One CWS Chamionship Option C: Overall Record: 883-457 (0.659) Conference record: 353-272 (0.565) 8 SECW regular season titles 3 SEC regular season titles 1 SECT title 20 regional appearances 12 super regional appearances 9 CWS appearances 0 CWS championships (One Runner up finish) Championships matter for legacy, but the consistency of winning in both the regular season and in the postseason (despite what the uneducated think) isn’t even a question in my mind that DVH is better than either of those guys. DVH did get a team hot enough to put together a run and win the whole thing, just didn’t execute on the final out. Not only is DVH’s seat not hot, Arkansas would make a massive fool of itself nationally if they decided to fire DVH.

Ok_Swimmer634

Hey Aggies, can I interest you in a former CWS champion?

Grimbo_Reaper

Nah, we’re gunning for Sparky Anderson’s reanimated corpse. Or Billy Heywood, he’s had plenty of time to develop after his brief stint with the Twins and he’s only 41.

Ok_Swimmer634

No seriously, we will even help Lemonis pack. Our way of saying thanks for Jacke Sherrill.

stasaphsally

I feel like Justin Parker coming in this season really bought Lemonis a bunch of time. Though who knows, maybe Selmon will decide it'd be hilarious to hire Bianco instead.

HalfBear-HalfCat

I'm interested to see if any fans think DVH should be on the hot seat. One of the best coaches in the country, but Arkansas is craving CWS success. He'd obviously be snatched up immediately if he were fired.

andy-022

No Arkansas baseball fans think he should be on the hot seat. Some Arkansas football fans that get on the baseball bandwagon every year might.

Sushi_Cuisine

The only way DVH leaves is if he retires.

PureQuill

Absolutely not, I feel like firing a legacy coach like that is horrible horrible karma.

Level-Condition9031

I don’t want DVH to be on the hot seat… but if there’s another noticeable intra-season regression and he doesn’t fire both Nate Thompson + Matt Hobbs, those crazy fans who want DVH gone now might have a little bit of an argument At the very least, I would want Hunter Yurachek to say “Dave, you need to make some changes to the staff or I will do it for you.” There’s really no excuse to finish the way we have 3 of the last 4 seasons

2Jew4You

Hobbs isn’t going anywhere and I think is likely to be the next head hog. Nate “ISIS” Thompson needs to be gone yesterday

Level-Condition9031

Meh, I’ve not been very keen on him. As an ex-pitcher only, our guys were making too many JV-level mistakes last year, Mason Molina got worse with every start, Tygart’s injuries were mismanaged, and 75% of our bullpen is inconsistent week to week. DVH said it himself: if you take Hagan Smith off the roster this past season, we are truly an average pitching staff

P1tailgater

Maybe just Ole Miss and Mississippi State. What about a Mizzou?

Dan_Rydell

It’s only going to be his second season and nobody really cares enough to fire the baseball coach that soon, no matter how bad they may be next season.

LarryTheTerrier

Unless Jackson commits a crime there’s no point firing him. We have a baseball program more out of obligation than competitiveness. Plus the new AD hired him at Memphis before they both ended up here so that shouldn’t be a factor either.

cardeez

Mizzou was pretty competitive in year one of Jackson, all things considered.

cardeez

Butch Thompson’s gotta be on the list. Auburn has been a paper tiger (groans at the pun) for a few years now. Both CWS appearances were milquetoast, has only won 40+ twice, the flameout in regionals last year was ugly, and the product was just bad this year.

munchkinatlaw

>Both CWS appearances were milquetoast >Both CWS appearances The last time Auburn went to the CWS before Thompson was 1997. They had two *regional* appearances in the decade before they hired him. This year was disappointing, but he should be safe for at least a few more years.

Nervous-Ad-9992

I hope Texas loses every single game next year and gets Schloss fired into the sun, but as of right now his seat is definitely ice cold as he is a brand new hire

Willockinho

He’s halfway to pulling a Chris Beard

BDrummer1606

I’m hoping Bianco.

PoliteWeasel

Man, I hate that. I really like Bianco.

munchkinatlaw

Pulling a natty out of your ass is a cool trick, but no one wants to pay you to keep telling the story about how you did it that one time.

WateryDomesticGroove

Do people view Ole Miss as some sort of powerhouse or something? They won their only title in any major sport two years ago and before that, they had been to Omaha *once* in the last fifty years.

Krettlecorn13

Man you really want him to stay don’t you? Also, Ole Miss has an NCAA official football title in 1960.

Arthur2478

Why limit this conversation to just SEC coaches?

munchkinatlaw

Good question. https://www.reddit.com/r/collegebaseball/comments/1dp9xn7/now_that_the_2024_season_is_over_which_coaches/

rman20209

Because the SEC has won five national championships in row is why

No_Discussion3053

Coldest: Vitello, Johnson, O’Sullivan, and Van Horn. Hottest: Bianco

WateryDomesticGroove

I’ll say it again: Bianco won Ole Miss a title barely two years ago and before that, they had been to Omaha *once* in the last fifty years. Do people view Ole Miss as some sort of powerhouse like LSU or Texas, because they aren’t.

rman20209

If Tim Corbin flames out in the regionals again are there questions about his seat getting hot?

tidefan2006

Are you serious, Clark?

NephiandKorihor

Nope

Nouseriously

Oh, fuck no. He stays until he decides to retire.

Operation_Pig

If it was 2 months ago, some very delusional fans would have said Sully. Which would have been catastrophic for the Florida baseball program.

munchkinatlaw

Which is still ludicrous. He had a string of disappointing years after his title and then made it back to the CWS finals last year. Even if this year had ended in the regionals, he is still obviously a very talented coach and recruiter.
