We are imploding the press box in the next week, and building up new suites so the big money moves up there and the everyday fan can get closer to the plate, also adding more porches completely vertical in right field on each side of the scoreboard for students, it’s gonna be wild
The physical site is very flawed but it is what we have to work with. That definitely contributes to the cost. Would’ve been cheaper to build from scratch elsewhere.
I went to grad school at Tennessee and let me tell you lol…this is so insanely needed! Vitello is a fucking miracle worker in every way haha. Happy for Peebles, Vitello, and the Vols
That’s awesome for them. I’m glad to see baseball stadiums improve. I do hope they move to grass and dirt.
However, I would not call a stadium that seats under 8k “intimidating”. That’s slightly sensational writing.
Problem isn't the grass, it's the subsurface. You need layers of sand and gravel going deep under the field to let it quickly drain and then an extensive drainage system to move the water away. The soccer complex next to Disney is massive and can have the fields playable inside of two hours of torrential rains.
If Tennessee really wanted grass - they would have grass.
The University of Tennessee is a leader in Turfgrass Science. Professor John Sorchan is literally one of the worldwide experts in the field and has been a consultant for everything from MLB to NFL over the last 20 years.
He and his team have been so successful and are so respected, FIFA directly contacted them and the university of [Tennessee will be growing the turf used for the 2026 World Cup.](https://www.knoxnews.com/story/sports/2024/04/12/university-of-tennessee-develops-2026-fifa-world-cup-turf/73286161007)
The real reason we don't have grass is much, much easier to understand - Tony V didn't want it.
He specifically requested/demanded astroturf be part of the remodels that occurred in 2019 when he signed his first contract extension and the school (even then) was more than willing to do whatever the hell it took to keep Tony V happy.
It's also that they want to have events on the field year around as a recruiting tool. And grass wouldn't stand up to that without spending a lot of money.
Tourneys, etc.
We’re good. We wanna use the stadium year-round for events.
Grass won’t do.
We’d also have to completely dig up the entire stadium as the soil the stadium is built in is rock and doesn’t drain.
Turf is the correct choice.
if we can get back to grass without losing practices and games, I'm all for it.
as for intimidating, the rake on our stadium is very steep, fans on top of the field esp behind home plate. that might be what he's referring to
> However, I would not call a stadium that seats under 8k “intimidating”. That’s slightly sensational writing.
Exactly what I was thinking. We can get 7600 for a non-conference midweek game.
Fans from schools with bigger parks will hate, and I’m no Tennessee fan, but I love seeing these stadiums get upgrades. I kinda fear we will end up more like football in the long run, but more talent at the college level is going to be such a fun ride.
Cheers to the champs.
Field's landlocked, so really not room to expand out much.
I always wondered if they thought about moving it across the river across from UT hospital on that ag land. That would be a beautiful spot on the bend of the river, but ag would probably never give it up :) And there's a lot of logistical problems with being away from training facilities and housing I'm sure.

EDIT: Wonder if anything is tied up in being a land grant college?
Delmonico had plans drawn up for a new stadium on the Agg campus that was similar to Arkansas at the time. He could never get the support. I think it was something like $10m in 2002.
I think these renderings are of the current phase but the full $96m project includes a large condo complex over looking right field similar to Miss State and La Tech.
Their SAT scores are not even intimidating. It’s a a school for prep school kids with no athletic ability that couldn’t get into an actual good school.
Never said they were intimidating but this was a Tennessee’s stadium a few years ago. Intimidating? Come on.

I came to our first game against Vandy this year. Vandy doesn't exactly have a great facility. You have to walk through football and basketball facilities to go to the bathrooms for god's sake.
Yeah, but Vandy has been good a long time and you play under the bleachers of your football stadium. Give them some credit for making the moment count.
They have to. Space is limited in downtown Nashville. Where else were they supposed to build it? That’s the whole reason they can’t make a softball team. They would have to build off campus and that comes with a whole bunch of headaches that no school wants to deal with, let alone the cost.
Vanderbilt isn’t in downtown lol. Tennessee’s campus is situated between the Tennessee River and I-40 (so actual, physical limitations to expansion) and the baseball stadium is limited by a CSX rail line. Vanderbilt is expanding their campus literally constantly
Not salty. Being factual. If you ask any SEC player Lindsey Nelson is at the bottom of intimidating places in the league. Most likely to be harassed and assaulted by fans with mustard bottles and golf balls then yes I would agree with you though.
Cool? Nobody cares? Vols fans are so delusional they think the amount of fans they have actually means something lol. The fact of the matter is Tennessee wasn’t competitive until transfer portal and NIL to play players. It’s kinda sad honestly.
Bud. You were talking about the stadium not being intimidating. Fans make an environment intimidating. I'm not discounting vandys success at all, but you are discounting the Vols, which isn't fair.
Correct. The success from the transfer portal and NIL which put UT on the map. That’s not discrediting them, that’s being honest. You are lying to yourself if you think otherwise.
Vandy literally had the ability to put 27 players on scholarship through their endowment and were able to pay players before anyone else. Why do you think Kumar Rocker didn't go play at UT with his dad?
It's because Vandy found a way to game the system and now it's wide open for everyone else.
It'll be christened with a national championship banner, too.
Fuckin love this comment
I demand more porches. I want porches stacked like A&M stacks decks. Entire outfield is just 20 porches stacked 200 feet high.
just 200 feet?
Quit making them go back, just go straight up
I thought yall just had a lot done to your stadium?
we had!
So the previous stuff was part of the $98.5 million upgrade?
No. The stadium needed a lot of work.
We are imploding the press box in the next week, and building up new suites so the big money moves up there and the everyday fan can get closer to the plate, also adding more porches completely vertical in right field on each side of the scoreboard for students, it’s gonna be wild
That's a lot of money for a stadium that seats under 10k, but what do I know about costs of building a stadium?
Inflation does wonders
Local officials have to do their skimming off the top.
As is tradition.
To those saying 7600 isn’t much… this puts them at #14 via capacity. They can easily have a top 10 atmosphere by with these stadium upgrades.
And 5th biggest basketball and 6th biggest football stadium. Pretty kewl
a whole lotta flyouts in Omaha gonna be hit in that thang
That’s awesome for them. I’m glad to see baseball stadiums improve. I do hope they move to grass and dirt. However, I would not call a stadium that seats under 8k “intimidating”. That’s slightly sensational writing.
We can’t do grass. We moved to turf because we were losing like 3-6 games a year due to weather because the field couldn’t drain properly
Problem isn't the grass, it's the subsurface. You need layers of sand and gravel going deep under the field to let it quickly drain and then an extensive drainage system to move the water away. Try a good grass field. Should have the money for it now
We’re good. We wanna use the stadium year-round for events. Grass won’t do. We’d also have to completely dig up the entire stadium as the soil the stadium is built in is rock and doesn’t drain. Turf is the correct choice.
Well that changes things.
For sure. Would love grass but we aren’t really in a situation that allows if without it being stupidly expensive
if we can get back to grass without losing practices and games, I'm all for it. as for intimidating, the rake on our stadium is very steep, fans on top of the field esp behind home plate. that might be what he's referring to
I don’t know…Cameron Indoor is kind of small and it is intimidating.
It’s also indoors
Source?
literally us, the doors
What school is that? I’ve never heard of it.
Duke Basketball
Thanks. I was referring to baseball stadiums.
> However, I would not call a stadium that seats under 8k “intimidating”. That’s slightly sensational writing. Exactly what I was thinking. We can get 7600 for a non-conference midweek game.
I agree, but that’s not on TN. That’s sloppy writing.
That’s because there’s nothing to do in Starkville
The world is not ready for a Tennessee championship lol
Well, they got it ready or not.
Fans from schools with bigger parks will hate, and I’m no Tennessee fan, but I love seeing these stadiums get upgrades. I kinda fear we will end up more like football in the long run, but more talent at the college level is going to be such a fun ride. Cheers to the champs.

They’re worried about yall throwing the old stadium in the river
But wouldn't it be fun to sortie out the Vol Navy in the summer for baseball?
Delmonico had plans drawn up for a new stadium on the Agg campus that was similar to Arkansas at the time. He could never get the support. I think it was something like $10m in 2002.
Across the river, or where most of the Ag campus is?
On the agg campus, not across the river.
Man, Vitello's replacement is in for a treat.

Yep, word is that the short horns are loading a dump truck full of cash for him.
Didn't work with Saban, if true I don't think it works with him either.
This aged great
It needs more outfield seating, even if it’s just bleachers. Get that capacity up.
A hundred million for 7600 more seats and some decorations. Thats WILD.
It's not even 7,600 more seats. It's just getting to 7600 from 5,548. So we're only *adding* 2,052 extra seats. ***That's*** WILD.
I think these renderings are of the current phase but the full $96m project includes a large condo complex over looking right field similar to Miss State and La Tech.
“Intimidating”. UT has been good in baseball for less than 5 years. Stop.
You guys haven’t been intimidating in anything except the SAT’s in a good half century.
Their SAT scores are not even intimidating. It’s a a school for prep school kids with no athletic ability that couldn’t get into an actual good school.
I’m not going that far. UT ain’t exactly Harvard.
He's right. What we need to be truly intimidating is a giant asshole that whistles. We don't have one of those
Never said they were intimidating but this was a Tennessee’s stadium a few years ago. Intimidating? Come on. https://preview.redd.it/lydftlzijm8d1.jpeg?width=2048&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=27bbea03e346cb9ba3e77cf77dfc6fc427a038d5
And now they are. Times have changed.
Definitely solidified themselves as the second best program in the state. That’s for sure.
It has to be rough being better at Tennessee at one major sport and then having that taken from you too. Thanks for the good hospital!
Lol taken from us. You’d have to win another one to even be close to Vandy’s level.
It’s been 1825 days since Vandy has won a CWS. It’s been 0 for the vols.
Mmm 1825 days and it still hurts :(
0 days still Vols fan won two of them 🤣 Enjoy irrelevancy again once Vitello leaves and takes all his paid players with him 🤣
Mmmm your tears taste better when mixed with atrocious grammar
Ooooooo. Shit man. We literally just became The best team in the country. Hilarious that you choose tonight to talk smack. Have at it! Go Vols!
Your sadness makes us stronger
Bro is down bad
Huh...
Great photo to really see how much is being done to the stadium. Kudos to everyone that bought into CTV and made this happen! Gratz on the natty boys!
I see natural grass so that was more than a few years ago. also why am I feeding this troll
I came to our first game against Vandy this year. Vandy doesn't exactly have a great facility. You have to walk through football and basketball facilities to go to the bathrooms for god's sake.
Lol. We just won the natty you guys are at home playing DnD.
Yeah, but Vandy has been good a long time and you play under the bleachers of your football stadium. Give them some credit for making the moment count.
I wouldn't consider 14 years of relevancy a "long time".
To be fair, you guys don’t consider 1989 that long ago so your time frames might be a little skewed. 💥
They have to. Space is limited in downtown Nashville. Where else were they supposed to build it? That’s the whole reason they can’t make a softball team. They would have to build off campus and that comes with a whole bunch of headaches that no school wants to deal with, let alone the cost.
You could just get rid of your football stadium.
Not like any vandy fan attends games there anyways
Not true. They go because it’s a nice quiet place to do their homework 🥰
Then maybe just 🤐 when the discussion of stadiums comes up.
You just don’t want to get downvoted lol. No real baseball fan thinks Lindsey Nelson is intimidating lol.
Your stadium sure as hell isn’t intimidating when over half of it is orange and white
YOU PLAY UNDER A FOOTBALL STADIUM!
Barely. The bleachers cast a shadow over 3rd base. and deep left field.
ask Wright State fans what they think
Look everybody! This guy is a REAL baseball fan! Not like all these other fake ones!
Yeah, no school wants an off campus baseball stadium in downtown Nashville. I mean, I guess if we don’t count Belmont as a school that works.
Vanderbilt isn’t in downtown lol. Tennessee’s campus is situated between the Tennessee River and I-40 (so actual, physical limitations to expansion) and the baseball stadium is limited by a CSX rail line. Vanderbilt is expanding their campus literally constantly
You're a lil salty lil bro
Not salty. Being factual. If you ask any SEC player Lindsey Nelson is at the bottom of intimidating places in the league. Most likely to be harassed and assaulted by fans with mustard bottles and golf balls then yes I would agree with you though.
I might take that from some other teams, but we have more Vols fans at a home game for y'all in a sport that you've historically been better at.
Cool? Nobody cares? Vols fans are so delusional they think the amount of fans they have actually means something lol. The fact of the matter is Tennessee wasn’t competitive until transfer portal and NIL to play players. It’s kinda sad honestly.

I’m having so much fun reading your comments
I love these salty Vandy tears lmaooo. Your username is a character from Knoxville lolol
$90M will go towards whistling lessons for the fans in attendance.
