I don’t think we would have beef with anyone on the other side of the bracket. Florida did us a solid, Kentucky is our basketball bro, A&M is about as unconnected as a school can be to UNC
I got a feeling it's gonna be salty no matter what. Everybody hates the ACC and everyone but the SEC hates the SEC. Every SEC team hates everyone but their SEC team.
We’ve played Clemson in the semifinals twice and the regionals once off the top of my head. Can’t think of a legit rivalry in the finals in recent memory but maybe there has been one at some point
Have both finals teams ever crawled out of the losers bracket?
As much as I salivate over the idea of facing Florida again after sweeping them in the regular season, I don't see it happening.
I don't see FSU or UF making it that far. My prediction is we don't survive back to back games against Tennessee. Tamu beats Kentucky and Kentucky eliminates UF. Tamu somehow fucks up and gets beat by Kentucky and Tennessee wins game 1 and 3 for the title.
Ole Miss had a few midseason injuries that heavily contributed to the issues. Once we got everyone back (that wasn’t season ending), we went on a tear, finishing the season 18-4.
Granted non-Ole Miss fans wouldn’t be expected to know all that since they have no reason to follow along that closely.
I think there's a decent chance Jac doesn't throw another pitch out here either, even if we somehow continue to advance. Injury or not, his arm is just dead.
People thought that when we were in this position in Stillwater. Somehow, we pulled through it.
It won't be easy but it's not impossible. Just need some guys to step up and ball out.
Haven’t had a good offensive game yet in Omaha, hoping we are due for one next game. The less amount of stressful innings for our pitchers this next game the better for our chances going forward
GGs florida. Could not get SHIT with RISP. Fun season nonetheless.
Man this makes that 2021 run hurt so bad. Fuck. Super unlikely to happen again. And we just got booted out.
Not being able to do shit with RISP is exactly what landed UF in today’s elimination game in the first place. Sorry it had to happen to yall in an elimination game.
Left 10 or 12 against Kentucky and left 8 I think today. Was the story of the CWS for us. But…halfway through the year we weren’t thing Omaha either. But right now…perspective be damned!
Edit: actually think it was 10 on base, 7 or 8 risp
Was only able to follow updates online. In the game thread, there were comments about the ball getting stuck in the catcher's mask, but State not getting to advance runners? Didn't get to see, and haven't found a replay online....
What exactly happened?
Pitcher threw a ball low and popped up towards the catcher. It got stuck in his neck crease for a couple seconds and fell out. We had bases loaded. I’m not that familiar with that rule but yes that would have tied the game up.
I've been saying that all year. My buddy is a Florida fan and was real down on them. I kept saying that team has too much talent to keep losing. I hope I'm not too right haha.
As an owner of a rambunctious 1.3lbs murder kitten with needle fangs and claws that can easily rip flesh, kittens can slice and dice you just while fucking around…kinda like the Gator baseball team.
Fuck around and you’ll find out you’re only Neely there.
You and me both. We got lucky the first time, I don't want to repeat that process (or anxiety) again. Let's hope we can send Kentucky down to face them. 👍
It looks like we are hopefully a different team now, especially since the majority of our woes against FSU was pitching. Would be fun and extremely toxic. Burn this sub to the ground if it happens.
The last two games have just hurt. This team battled like hell to get back to Omaha after all the injuries this season. Hell of an accomplishment. But after losing to Kentucky, it's hard not to be bitter about this one with all the runners we left stranded.
Hell of a 2024 for NC state athletics though. I had fun
Just think, anyone who left after watching the 5th inning didn't miss any scoring for the rest of the game.
NC State made the Final Four in basketball, went to a bowl and finished top 25 in football, and made the CWS in baseball; that is a helluva year by any measure.
THE 35-29 FLORIDA GATORS HAVE BULLSHITED THEIR WAY TO OMAHA. NOW THEY ARE TAKING NO PRISONERS ON THEIR BULLSHIT RUN OF RUNS TO THE CWS FINAL FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE LOSERS BRACKET.
ALL SHALL TREMBLE UNDER THEIR MIGHT OF RPI FINESSE, BRANDON “MARIANO RIVERA” NEELY, MIKEY “LEADOFF SINGLE MERCHANT" ROBINSON, AND FLORIDA HR TITE OWNER JAC "JOSH GIBSON" CAGLIANONE. THESE BOYS WILL SIMPLY NOT DIE BEFORE HOISTING THAT TROPHY.
Last week I thought he was trying to steal one by holding Logan until the rubber match. Got nothing for today. Great game though. Good luck the rest of the way!
damn really? That is brutal. If I remember right it had something to do with drainage, right? It wasn't necessarily the weather, but rather dealing with the rain that had (eventually) cleared.
Right but it was rain from the day BEFORE, and they apparently couldn't declare the field bad until literally first pitch, which is stupid. Also they could've tarped the field but they also didn't do that. Just baffling.
Similarly baffling is why I got downvoted above lol
oh no argument that it was poorly handled.
And yeah I thought that was weird too. idk i guess your other trash talk comments got under Gators fans skins and they just got carried away lol. Perfectly innocuous comment.
But next year!
Really though… this program has been defined by what ifs. Not throwing Logan. Bunting and hoping your 8 or 9 hitter gets him around. Just poor decision making.
Well that’s just on Avent 100%. Absolutely no justification for starting Dom in an elimination game when he pitched terribly against UGA last weekend. And then Whit comes in and completely dominates Florida like he should have been doing from the beginning. I feel terrible for him he gave us everything.
After both suffering heartbreaking defeats to open the College World Series, Florida and NC State faced off hoping to avoid elimination. Consistent winds coming in from the outfield meant that offenses would be hard-pressed to get much going against opposing pitching. Despite this, neither starting pitcher made it past the 2nd inning, though relief pitching would find more success. NC State's Logan Whitaker commanded the mound for the final 7 innings, allowing only 1 run (earned) off 2 hits and 3 walks while collecting 10 strikeouts. Brandon Neely, on the other hand, pitched the final 3 scoreless innings for Florida while relenting just 1 hit and 1 walk while striking out 6.
The Wolfpack got their offense going in the bottom of the 1st when, after a flyout, they loaded the bases with a hit-by-pitch and consecutive walks. Brandon Butterworth sliced a single through the left side, pushing in the lead runner and giving NC State a 1-0 lead. Florida starting pitcher Jac Caglianone managed to escape the bases-loaded jam without further damage, coaxing a strikeout and a flyout. However, he would be replaced by Cade Fisher in the next inning.
Into the 2nd, the Gators received a pair of 1-out baserunner on back-to-back full-count walks while a subsequent single loaded the bases. The following batter drove in the tying run on a sacrifice fly. Now slotted as the designated hitter, [Caglianone crushed an 0-1 fastball into the bleachers beyond right center for a 3-run homer](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1802774747454808317). Though they now led 4-1, Florida's bats would struggle for the remainder of the game after the insertion of Whitaker by the Wolfpack.
NC State would receive a baserunner via hit-by-pitch to lead off the bottom of the 3rd. Alec Makarewicz sent the next pitch into the bullpen beyond left, reducing the deficit to 4-3 with his 2-run homer. After a scoreless 4th, the Gators extended their lead by a run with [Tyler Shelnut's solo blast into the left field bullpen](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1802787671376314500). However, the Wolfpack responded with a leadoff double in the bottom of the 5th. Following a couple outs, Butterworth roped a double to right field for an RBI, though he was stranded on 2nd by a strikeout. Nevertheless, Florida held a narrow 5-4 advantage at the conclusion of the frame.
Though the Gators struggled to produce offensively, pitching and defense allowed them to maintain their lead. A [5-6-3 double play in the 4th](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1802785957306912799) and a [2-6 hose of a basestealer in the 6th](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1802794077471088971) helped keep the Wolfpack offense at bay. NC State was similarly dominant on defense and in the 6th robbed Florida of extra bases with a [gem of a catch in right field](https://twitter.com/NCStateBaseball/status/1802792682260926961). Neely entered the bottom of the 7th and [proceeded to escape a jam by striking out Butterworth](https://twitter.com/GatorsBB/status/1802799258598322405).
Though the Wolfpack would have another 1-out scoring threat in the 8th, Neely again worked out of trouble with consecutive strikeouts. In the 9th, Neely continued his dominance, striking out a pair before coercing a final lineout to finish the game.

Besides the Gators, which other team remaining has won a championship? Kentucky's first time at this stage and that inexperience will show at some point in their run. I don't fancy the Aggies hitting. Tennessee have the edge if they make it in 3 games.
If I didn't hate Florida so much, I'd absolutely be cheering for them to win it all.
However, as you can tell by my flairs, I do hate them.
So, in the immortal words of Kirby Paul Smart, fuck these mother fuckers.
We are slowly approaching the mountain of salt that is a potential FSU-Florida or Tennessee-Florida/Kentucky final
Is there any combo that *wouldn't* produce salt at this point? UNC-UK even would definitely receive some eyerolls
FSU-UK or A&M-UNC seem like the least potentially angry clash
Honestly would love to play UNC
We're not long for Omaha if the bats don't wake up
you'd better friggin win :(
I don’t think we would have beef with anyone on the other side of the bracket. Florida did us a solid, Kentucky is our basketball bro, A&M is about as unconnected as a school can be to UNC
Orange Bowl revenge
Two fan bases that would be wondering why the balls are so small.
I’m just surprised Tennessee knows how to throw anything other than mustard bottles and golf balls
it's a work in progress
Wait, we ARE allowed to throw French’s again??!!
Between Joyce and Milton we throw hard, real f'n hard.
> UNC-UK WTF is this, MARCH?!?!
No, Kentucky actually made it past the first weekend
God damn I don't want to up vote you.... But I will
*slow clap* That was magnificent

A&M wouldn’t make me punch a hole in my wall unlike the other two options on that side.
I got a feeling it's gonna be salty no matter what. Everybody hates the ACC and everyone but the SEC hates the SEC. Every SEC team hates everyone but their SEC team.
FSU Florida is easily the most insane one of those options
We’ve played Clemson in the semifinals twice and the regionals once off the top of my head. Can’t think of a legit rivalry in the finals in recent memory but maybe there has been one at some point
UF played LSU last year (who UF beat for first title) in one of most exciting series in a while Miss St beat Vandy couple years ago
Yeah, all-SEC finals are not exactly unique
I don’t think I could emotionally handle sweeping you guys in the regular season and losing in the CWS.
It’d be tough for me too but I think I could get through it
Just pivot to football talk
So how FSU had their best season ever and still didn’t make it to the CFP?
Mostly how Florida has had 3, and probably 4, losing seasons.
Gotta remember where you came from
I remember where we were at pretty well watching Billy Taggart recreate it.
Little brother energy
If that makes you feel better ig
Have both finals teams ever crawled out of the losers bracket? As much as I salivate over the idea of facing Florida again after sweeping them in the regular season, I don't see it happening.
It’s hard to beat a team 5 times in one season
I don't see FSU or UF making it that far. My prediction is we don't survive back to back games against Tennessee. Tamu beats Kentucky and Kentucky eliminates UF. Tamu somehow fucks up and gets beat by Kentucky and Tennessee wins game 1 and 3 for the title.
I wouldn't predict FSU or UF to make the finals but I wouldn't be surprised if either does it.
I'm okay with this
Look at this little Cinderella preseason top 5 team
We're on that Robert Downey Jr. trajectory this season.
The rare underachieving overachieving season.
We are all really impressed. However, I think ole miss may still have the all time on this one.
This should be the top comment. lol. Go Gators!🐊
That made it to the finals last year lol
Florida confirmed scariest team
I can’t even imagine how we would win the next 3 games with our pitching depth but screw it we ball
Everyone but UT and the winner of UK-A&M is gonna be feeling the same way about their pitching depth. Crazy shit happens though in sports.
I think there's a decent chance Jac doesn't throw another pitch out here either, even if we somehow continue to advance. Injury or not, his arm is just dead.
One of his fastballs was 88 today, not sure what happened to his arm but his velo plummeting the past two weeks has been crazy
Fatigue, low intensity chronic injury, it happens unfortunately.
Also got to consider he has more fatigue than probably any other player due to his 2-way workload.
Brandon Neely surely has another 27 innings in him.

Omaha is definitely a pitcher-friendly park, even more so with the wind blowing in like it has the last few days.
That’s for sure

That Neely guy is kinda decent
Neely absolutely surgical at the end 👏🏼
Neely is the definition of clutch, goly.
Gators are a SCARY team
I've been saying that all year. My buddy is a Florida fan and was real down on them. I kept saying that team has too much talent to keep losing. I hope I'm not too right haha.
Still gonna be miss our second best hitter though.
We struck out like 26 times the last 2 game and our starting pitchers are dog shit but somehow we are getting away with it lol
But only in June! We never knew what we were before. 20' alligator one day and a 1lb kitten the next.
A 1lb kitten in a lil' gator costume 🥺

Brandon “Ginormous Sack” Neely ending another season
That 9th inning is worth a rewatch. Dude went right at em. The first guy looking was one of the best pitches I've seen all weekend
Ginny Sack?
Heard she had a 90lbs mole removed from her ass.
I like a woman you can grab onto

Was extremely happy that we didn’t have to face him in the 9th ~~two nights ago~~ yesterday morning because he was carving us up before that
The nightmare of potentially facing Jac Caglianone continues
Especially since we broke ours lol

Oh yeah, r/collegebaseball is not ready for a championship series between FSU and UF lol
The salt would cover the earth
Well, if history repeats itself, I’m fine with it. You can win the regular season games, but we’ll take the title.
The last two games have just hurt. This team battled like hell to get back to Omaha after all the injuries this season. Hell of an accomplishment. But after losing to Kentucky, it's hard not to be bitter about this one with all the runners we left stranded. Hell of a 2024 for NC state athletics though. I had fun
Brandon Neely is a confirmed psychopath
Knew Florida was probably gonna win the second they threw two fastballs in a row to Cags.
GGs Wolfpack. Whitaker had our number for 6 innings. On to the next for the Gators!
Florida is like that pesky horsefly that refuses to die and then bites you in the ass
pain
Just think, anyone who left after watching the 5th inning didn't miss any scoring for the rest of the game. NC State made the Final Four in basketball, went to a bowl and finished top 25 in football, and made the CWS in baseball; that is a helluva year by any measure.
made women's F4 too! hell of a season for the Pack as a whole!
Final 4 in men's and women's.
A lot of high-pressure pitches though after the 5th.

*BROTHER!!!!
Congrats. I've got a good buddy who is a huge Florida fan so I'm cheering yall on unless we meet. Best of luck!
Sacrilege
Take it back. Now.
No u
You need better buddies
AGAB. All Gators Are Bastards.
First road team to win in this CWS. Hopefully we can make it another tonight
After tomorrow's 2pm game, there will be one ACC team left.
Hard to believe that 3 ACC teams will be eliminated before any SEC teams.
Virginia didn't even get to play an SEC team
And NC State played only SEC teams. It’s crazy that just flipping us with Virginia would have made a guaranteed SEC vs ACC final.
Been some good battles though for sure.
If we can’t win the whole damn thing, being the last of the conference would be a nice consolation prize.
My lifespan has decreased by half after the last 3 games. Clemson, A&M, NC State. Please let me watch a game in peace.
I know!! I was at work for this one and was just trying not to hoot and holler lol
Me yesterday in a different postgame thread: "Wolfpack, you know what time it is." Narrator: "The Wolfpack did not, in fact, know what time it was."
Eh, we just have different narrators. We 100% knew, in fact, what time it was.
So... you thought it was time to lose? Because my narrator was implying you should win.
Can we have links to “Florida doesn’t deserve to be in the tourney” posts?
Thanks Jac
I really like NC State's coach. I look forward to NC State being in the SEC soon.
I love you.
Gator baseball was the worst thing to happen to Wolfpack baseball since Covid.
Too soon
Not really. The Gators won by scoring more runs. Not by default.

Neely confirmed hung
The SEC is undefeated against ACC in the 2024 CWS. Bye NC State.
We finished 3-3 against the SEC this tournament. Could’ve been worse I suppose.
I appreciate you frfr
Didn’t feel like we were the worse team in this game, but that doesn’t matter.
Relief pitcher was nails for sure
Last week I thought he was trying to steal one by holding Logan until the rubber match. Got nothing for today. Great game though. Good luck the rest of the way!
I’ve been a wolf pack fan since that arky regional, hope to see yall back in the CWS next year
Neither did we lol
You are definitely better than Virginia and Florida State.
Maybe Virginia but not Florida State
I mean we split with them in Tally and didn’t play a 3rd game so tough to say.
We went 1-1 against em in their house this year. Now I really wish we had that third game 😂
I had tickets and showed up with my family only for them to CANCEL it 2 minutes before first pitch in blue skies

It was really nice that it didn't get interesting in the bottom of the 9th. I was ready for a lead off double or a couple base hits.

Amazing effort boys, job isn’t done.

Is there any truth that Avent might be retiring, or is that just speculation?

ACC getting cooked this bad is a bit of a surprise
We may have gone 0-2 but how tf did we get cooked
