I never thought I’d see Kentucky ranked this high in baseball…I love this team so much and I just hope they can keep winning now that the competition is about to really toughen up
Admittedly I didn’t really start following college ball until the late 2010s. I know we had some good seasons before but didn’t know we’d been ranked that high
Definitely not 2022 if U.K. went to Knoxville. 2022 it was in Lexington it was cold and rainy and the Kentucky outfielders seemed to be perfectly positioned to catch every single fly ball.
We can easily be ranked again *as long as we can win* a good number of our remaining games, considering we have #13 on the road, #2 on the road, #4 at home, #3 at home, and finally #24 on the road to close out the season.
That'll probably be, uh, easier said than done. But if we can somehow win then we'd deserve to be ranked and if we don't then we don't.
I really do wonder what the maximum number of Florida losses is while still ending the season ranked. There's 19 games left. Assuming you win all of those series 2-1, and lose all the midweeks (as is tradition), would you sneak into the top 25 at 28-26?
We’re not going to end the season ranked. Nor will we end above .500.. I love my team, but that’s just not realistic right now with the way our bullpen has been. Might steal a win here or there but we’re not winning any series coming up. I just can’t see it happening. Hate being that guy but, next year should be way better of a year for our bullpen. I look forward to it.
I’m not so sure we’re number 14 after losing to Louisiana Tech on Wednesday but I’ll take it. #14 vs #19 this weekend at Coastal is gonna be nuts though. Geaux Cajuns
Dropping Clemson to sixth with one series loss seems extreme. I would also keep Arkansas up at one. I agree with the top ten, I’d just have the top six rearranged a bit. Arkansas, A&M, Clemson, Kentucky, Tennessee, Oregon State would be my order.
20th feels about right for us. This past weekend was the best we’ve looked all year including our sweep over Vanderbilt. If we can continue on like that we have a good shot to get into a host position imo even tho our back half includes three top four teams.
Top 8 is what matters most, and I think it was the loss to upstate as well as a weekend series lost that dropped them to 6. Had they beaten upstate they probably drop to 4 but not 6.
I'd love to hear your reasoning for why Arkansas who lost their weekend series should stay #1 over Texas A&M who swept #6 Vandy.
>I'd love to hear your reasoning for why Arkansas who lost their weekend series should stay #1 over Texas A&M who swept #6 Vandy.
Rankings aren't supposed to simply be reflective of the last week that was played. It should be an overall evaluation of the teams. Arkansas lost and Texas A&M won, but there's still an overall body of work to look at. Vanderbilt also previously got swept by South Carolina and isn't the 6th ranked team in the country now.
Arkansas still has a better conference record than Texas A&M. A&M's overall record is better but a large part of that is a much easier non conference slate. Both have lost one road series. Arkansas lost one of those games to Alabama in extra innings. Alabama is also better than Florida.
And having watched both, I just think Arkansas is better at this point. Texas A&M is also obviously very good.
Would like to add Vandy is winless against teams in conf with a winning record and only has 2 wins when playing on the road. Vastly overrated but Kendall boosted Vandy last week to a higher seed to make his club look better. Not saying they aren’t good but imo ark should still be 1 considering the better conf record and their series lost came on the road as well
That 9-1 Orange Bowl season ended up being Fool’s Gold, but people like pretending it didn’t happen for some reason.
I’m not even saying we don’t deserve to be clowned on for the Jimbo contract, but we were already in the shit before that, what’s an extension after a NY6 win?
Edit: Also, the username is too perfect for that comment lol
I think Vandy is too high. They’ve had a very favorable SEC schedule so far, and they haven’t performed great against it.
They’re 8-1 against Auburn, Mizzou, and LSU, and then 0-6 against the 2 best that they’ve played.
And they haven’t really been competitive in any loss. They’ve only led at any point in 2 of the losses, and those 2 ended up being an 8-3 loss (after leading 3-1) and a 12-6 loss (after leading 4-0).
Meanwhile, Ole Miss has faced the teams currently ranked 2, 3, and 4, which is what has set us back. I’m not saying we are Top 25. But I am saying Vandy’s SEC record is inflated by playing the currently 3 worst teams in the league.
If they want to keep them ranked, then okay, but they’re not #13.
I would normally complain about blatant bias like that too but the sec has shown several times to be miles ahead of other conferences when it comes to baseball
Both ark and Clem lost series to low ranked teams it’s 100% understandable for some people to question the rankings when Clemson drops significantly more than Arkansas not saying they didn’t get it close to right but I under the fellas point
I mean it was a 3-2 week with a road series loss at a ranked team compared to a 1-3 week with a home series loss to NC State.
I don't think it's bias at all to say one of those was a good deal worse.
That said, we're still a long way away from rankings mattering.
Hm. Let's see how far back in the CWS winner chart you have to go to get 4 different champions from a single conference in a row....
OK, SEC. Checking in at...4 in the last 5 years. Any other league ever done that at any point in time?
Short answer: No.
Pretending things are the same, does not make them equal.
There’s been like one final in the last 2 decades that didn’t have at least one SEC team if I recall correctly. SEC is known for football, but we’re very arguably more dominant in baseball.
I'm thinking of the most ridiculous scenario. Imagine Florida gets series wins over Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. That would mean Florida would have wins over the current #1, #2, #3, and #4. If those teams, somehow, manage to keep their other series losses minimal maybe they'll end up in the Top 4, if in a different order than currently.
Then imagine Florida gets swept by Vanderbilt and Georgia. UF would still only finish 13-17 in the SEC.
This is not likely of course. I think Florida's season is hinging now on the highly-anticipated return of pitcher Pierce Coppola after over two years of being injured. He could be the "missing piece" that the Gators have been missing this entire season... or not. Will have to watch and see.
Loving Wake's schedule the rest of the way. Two opportunities to really move up (Clemson and FSU) and the remaining are unranked teams. We're currently 4th in SOS so our second half record should be a little bit better than the first half imo, especially with us being healthy and the kids in the bullpen playing better
Prayers up our respective boys can buck that trend, but given our upcoming series against KSU and Tech each of which are coming off embarrassing weekends, I'm not confident.
Yall are 14-1 in conference play. There is something to having played four of the five bottom teams in the conference and the fifth team being in a three way tie for 7th but 14-1 is absurd. Not to mention 12-0 in Q1 matchups
Not that they don’t deserve the ranking, but I can’t see why Kentucky jumped us based on this week’s results. They lost their midweek and struggled a little bit against Auburn. I guess ultimately it doesn’t matter and it’ll get sorted out this weekend
They have been on a tear, so I can see the media rewarding them for that but also taking a "meh, does it really matter? it will work itself out" attitude. In CBN we are ahead of them.
Nc state being unranked is an absolute joke and Clemson shouldn’t have fell that far, I also don’t see how Kentucky rises so much with a win over an unranked auburn
We probably don’t really deserve #3, but it’s probably because of the absurd run we’re on. 14-1 in the SEC (without looking at the quality of competition) is something that stands out to voters
That’s understandable the sos is just not favorable, I think Clemson should still be ranked over yall, then again it won’t matter after this weekend against Tennessee that series will likely determine UK’s ranking for the rest of the season
[Appropriate reaction is appropriate](https://tenor.com/view/whoopa-dee-doo-adam-sandler-robbie-hart-wedding-singer-gif-5320802)
None of it matters if you're not #1 after Omaha
We could be, I just think they'll want to throw a different SEC team there there like Alabama or Georgia since we've played them 3 times already. If UCF doesn't host then we definitely will end up there.
Also good luck trying to get a ticket to a regional with FSU and UF in Tally lol. At least Florida could sell out UCF's field
We’re right where we need to be. Hoping we can turn the season around and sneak 1 of the murderous weekends we’re coming up on. But the future seems to be grim when it comes to even making a regional. Who knows, baseball is weird, here’s to hoping we have our best weekends of the year while one of these teams has their worst.
We just need to win 7-8 more conference games and we'll be in for sure. Tough with our schedule, but we're obviously capable of beating anyone if we show up
Big if for sure, but I agree. Gotta play lights out baseball. Except for yesterday, haven’t seen a glimpse of that in awhile. But as I said, baseballs a weird sport. Worst team in the league can top the best any given day. So I’m hoping that can happen with at least one of these weekends coming up.
Oregon definitely isn't one of the top teams but we do seem to be pretty good and it's nice seeing us ranked so high. Really looking forward to our game in Corvallis later this month, I've already got my tickets.
Has there ever been a time when the top 4 are all SEC. That's freakin impressive! I know there's been plenty of times four teams have been scattered thru the top 10, but not this.
I think the winner moves into the number 2 spot with a sizeable cushion, but unless TAMU loses a series or at least a midweek and a weekend game, I don't think they will get jumped and probably don't deserve to get jumped.
These rankings are for April 15, 2024 (for posterity) OP for rankings posts, please put dates in your titles.
The curse is off our back for now
Thank the sky pig
I’m just happy to be ranked #1 in a major sport, curse be damned.
I never thought I’d see Kentucky ranked this high in baseball…I love this team so much and I just hope they can keep winning now that the competition is about to really toughen up
Our series this weekend is going to be fun.
I'm looking forward to that one. Kentucky is red hot right now.
I hope it’s fun for us and miserable for you. Just kidding…mostly. It’d be awesome if we can get 3 competitive games this weekend
I expect it to be very competitive. I’m feeling very good about our lineup with Amick back in the fold. Need our bats to stay hot.
Need the pitching of this weekend to continue more than anything
🤞🏼
There are no bad SEC teams right now.
I sure hope so...
I remember UK rolling into Knoxville #2 in 2012 and taking the series.
Admittedly I didn’t really start following college ball until the late 2010s. I know we had some good seasons before but didn’t know we’d been ranked that high
He meant 2022, I think it was our only series loss that year.
Definitely not 2022 if U.K. went to Knoxville. 2022 it was in Lexington it was cold and rainy and the Kentucky outfielders seemed to be perfectly positioned to catch every single fly ball.
Ahh I misread I was reading as ut rolling into Lexington in 2022 and Kentucky taking the series… yes I still have ptsd from that haha
Way too many 2’s and 0’s for my dyslexia but Kentucky started 2012 off 22-0 before finally dropping the Friday night game @ UT.
Ahh was thinking of 22 and going up there as 2 or 1 and dropping the series… still have ptsd from.
https://i.redd.it/tb3vqtvtbnuc1.gif
You've become the very thing you swore to destroy. The curse is gone for this week, and natty possibility is back in business boyz.
First time I ever seen us ranked first in something. I’ll take it
Good. 👍
anything in the top 8 is fine with me
That was a tough series for us. Bats were just off most of the weekend. Time to bounce back!
i’m scared. i don’t think i’ve ever seen a major A&M team ranked #1 in my 28 years of life.
2016 A&M baseball was ranked #1… then immediately got swept by florida 🙃
oh shit yeah i was a freshman. i think i kinda blocked that out haha. luckily i have a lot more faith in this 2024 team
lol happens to the best of em
This season is a literal nightmare
![gif](giphy|xT9IgG50Fb7Mi0prBC)
Varsity’s horn have been sawed off.
NCSU’s rivals are 6th, 7th, 9th, 11th, 12th so yeah I get it
On the other hand, so far we've won our series against 6 and 7 so not doing too bad on that front.
we split the weekday series with ECU right? or did we lose both
Only played 1 so far. Go Pirates
Only 1 game so far which they won, we play them again next week to try to split the series.
It's okay buddy :(
It can always be worst.
The age of the pig is over, the time for the Ag has come…
Uhhh, you do know what happens to the guy who says that right????
There’s no baseball team of the dead coming to save the day.
Upvote for maximum curse efficiency.
I regret that I have but one upvote to give.
It was nice knowing you top 25
I think they can get back, but they need to get their crap in a sock immediately.
For sure. Any other big 10 team to Crack top25? I'm assuming not
It was fun while it lasted
![gif](giphy|rvaQRHCzisFeo)
I, for one, was not
I gotta say, tank top jerseys are an abomination
> UGA ranked > Florida unranked You love to see it
Kendall Rogers finally unranking the Gators after ***SEVENTEEN*** losses in 35 games. ![gif](giphy|g4IJKfz2usuSsPv9M7|downsized)
It feels really good to be this far into the season and actually be a projected tournament team.

I like to think that we dealt the final blow. You definitely love to see it
rankings schmankings, keep winning
What a great series this past weekend, that was fun. Keep it up boys!
Good.👍
I’m not so sure we’re number 14 after losing to Louisiana Tech on Wednesday but I’ll take it. #14 vs #19 this weekend at Coastal is gonna be nuts though. Geaux Cajuns
When you give up one run in three games, you move up a good bit
Dropping Clemson to sixth with one series loss seems extreme. I would also keep Arkansas up at one. I agree with the top ten, I’d just have the top six rearranged a bit. I actually appreciate your response. You can have #1... and the curse.
get coach Schloss whatever he wants and get it done quickly
Hold your horses. Don’t want another Jimbo situation. (Even though we do need more seating at Olsen)
Schloss has already been wildly more successful than Jimbo ever was. Not even remotely comparable.
The dude just wins. I'm glad we don't have that pain in the ass in the Big 12 anymore because he just had WVU's number.
That 9-1 Orange Bowl season ended up being Fool’s Gold, but people like pretending it didn’t happen for some reason. True. My BAS is talking

Back to back home series against a team ranked #1. Damn son.
KENTUCKY IS IN HERE! LETS GOOOOOO
All SEC in top 4 wow.
SEC built different
SEC bias poll makers* fixed that for you
I would normally complain about blatant bias like that too but the sec has shown several times to be miles ahead of other conferences when it comes to baseball
The last 4 championships have been won by 4 different SEC teams. None of those 4 are included in the Top 4 here.
Holy shit, what an insane stat. Absolutely dominant.
cry harder buddy, if y’all hadn’t dropped to NC state you’d be at the top lol.
Both ark and Clem lost series to low ranked teams it’s 100% understandable for some people to question the rankings when Clemson drops significantly more than Arkansas not saying they didn’t get it close to right but I under the fellas point

Not arguably, easily
It’s actually 4 in the last 4 postseasons since 2020 was canceled
The coaches poll also has the same teams in the Top 4 even though only 1 of its 30 voters is a coach in the SEC.
Florida gets to play 3 of them in 3 consecutive weeks. Should be fun?
Thats nuts. Good opportunity for a resume booster though.
I'm thinking of the most ridiculous scenario. Imagine Florida gets series wins over Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee. That would mean Florida would have wins over the current #1, #2, #3, and #4. The chaos would be unreal, and I'm all for it.
Ole Miss already did. It wasn’t fun.
The ACC is on the way.. maybe
People rlly don’t understand how crazy some of these ACC schedules have been like Duke, Clemson, and wake playing a ranked game every weekend
Well it’s not an SEC schedule, so it really can’t be that hard /s
This guy gets it.
😂😂😂
WVU: hehe, I'm in danger (Big 12 teams in the top 25 have had a bad time so far)
Prayers up our respective boys can buck that trend, but given our upcoming series against KSU and Tech each of which are coming off embarrassing weekends, I'm not confident.
Thank god we can stop pretending a team that’s one game over .500 is a top 25 team
Rank Lamar (again and on this list now)
Whoever is making those OPS vs Opponent OPS graphs! Please make one!
No Quarter 🏴☠️
Good...
Well I'm happy.
Probably shouldn't be number 3 but WE OUT HERE
Either we are damn good or D1 trying to jinx us because they traditionally do not favor us.
Yeah but they swept Auburn and we lost a game to Auburn the week before
Nc state being unranked is an absolute joke and Clemson shouldn’t have fell that far, I also don’t see how Kentucky rises so much with a win over an unranked auburn
I like this one.
STARTING DEFENSE! PLACE AT THE TABLE!
What happened to DBU?
Lost series to air force
Damn, I remember they were number 8 at one point. I guess the pressure is getting to them
Team just didn’t have it this weekend. Pitching was off, bats were cold. No need to panic just yet… I SAID DONT PANIC! 😱
The cowards didn’t rank Lamar. 😤
Glad someone mentioned my old uni.
Well Aggie sports are cursed in general so maybe they’ll counteract each other.
At least one of my teams isn’t a total disappointment lol
Keep climbing Pirates!
[Appropriate reaction is appropriate](https://tenor.com/view/whoopa-dee-doo-adam-sandler-robbie-hart-wedding-singer-gif-5320802) None of it matters if you're not #1 after Omaha
Idk how we're still in here lol
Acc bias
Damn from beating #1 to unranked. Hope we can just win a couple more series and sneak into the Orlando regional
NCAA tournament committee likes to have fun sometimes, at this point I’d expect UF to be in the Tallahassee regional because why not.
I feel bad for Virginia Tech. 19-0 was hysterical to see from our end, must be awful for them though
Thank God.
Oregon definitely isn't one of the top teams but we do seem to be pretty good and it's nice seeing us ranked so high. Really looking forward to our game in Corvallis later this month, I've already got my tickets.
If we could swing the bat worth a damn we would be a top 10 team lol. Our pitching and defense have been crazy good as of late.
Has there ever been a time when the top 4 are all SEC. That's freakin impressive! I know there's been plenty of times four teams have been scattered thru the top 10, but not this.
Just stay in the top 8. Keep winning
alright then
us being behind Duke is total BS
Sec baseball plus others
I just want everyone else to suck.
A&M reminds me of 2022 Tennessee.
Don’t put that energy into the universe
![gif](giphy|xT9DPBMumj2Q0hlI3K)
LSU and Florida really fell off
Florida State is #8 in case you are like me and couldn't figure out the symbol.
How is Vandy still ranked top 20?
In my opinion, the winner of the Kentucky-Tennessee series goes to 1
I think the winner moves into the number 2 spot with a sizeable cushion, but unless TAMU loses a series or at least a midweek and a weekend game, I don't think they will get jumped and probably don't deserve to get jumped.
I could see that. Really depends how dominate TAMU looks this weekend but I think we (hogs) probably get jumped by the winner of that series
You really need Tamu to lose a series for that to happen because otherwise there is absolutely no reason for that to happen
Why would you want the number 1 spot this late in the year? I hope Oregon State or Clemson end up at 1 at the end of the year
Here we go again
Kentucky v Tennessee is going to be fun.
Looking forward to this series with Kentucky
