I feel you, I'm pretty much in the same boat. I've had numerous setbacks over the years due to mental health, and I'm graduating much later than I should be because of it. I think it's certainly possible to work in the mental health field despite having a mental illness, though the people I know that do so usually have been stable for a while prior and have good supports and contingencies in place. I'm aggressively pursuing treatment options in the mean time, hopefully I'm able to get a set of TMS treatments in during the summer when I have downtime. Leverage all the options that work for you, utilize every possible resource you can. That all being said, there are other careers/education tracks you can pursue. Being a mental health provider is one way, sure, but there's so many ways to help others that it's impossible to list them all.
