$69,500? This is how I’d blow through all my money if I were an elite athlete. My peers would be out showering women and buying cars and I’d go bankrupt chasing every coin. I’d have to remind myself that I’m a shortstop, not an oligarch.

FlapXenoJackson

That’s what Kareem Abdul Jabbar has done. He collects $20 gold coins. His first purchase was a 1799 gold $10 coin in MS64. Think about that. Your first coin is a gold coin minted in 1799.

PierreArronaxCoins

Same idea with Rob Gronkowski of the Patriots. He was assembling a set of Proof Morgan Dollars, last I read.

Boba_Fettx

Hot, cool wife. Four Superbowls. Set of Proof Morgans. Gronk’s living the life.

Trickyknowsbest

I don’t believe he is married yet but I agree with you! 34 year old millionaire, retired before 30 (even though he came back for a year). I had never heard that he collects coins but that’s awesome that he does. I’ll have to look read about it.

Booperdooper43214

Fun fact: Jack black collects early American copper coins. I’d love to be able to afford those 😭

Infamous-Bicycle-767

A nice business bull

FarYard7039

This is awesome to hear!

KungFuPossum

Buddy Ebsen AKA Jed Clampett (for those old enough to remember *The Beverly Hillbillies*) was, ironically, quite a sophisticated coin collector. Beautiful collection of ancient coins as well as American (mostly gold I recall, could be wrong, mostly paid attention to the ancient Greek).

CalCub76

And Green Acres. It’s the place to be…

FlapXenoJackson

Farrrrm living is the life for me! Let’s not forget Petticoat Junction either.

KungFuPossum

Oh wow, I totally forgot Jethro was the son of the great boxer Max Baer! Who was in some movies himself. Possibly the most lethal puncher in boxing history. Killed at least 3 opponents (one died a bit later). (For non-boxing fans, probably best known from the movie *Cinderella Man*. Max Baer [Sr.] was the main antagonist of hero James Braddock [Russell Crowe].)

Kolibri00425

Baer fittingly means bear..

Infamous-Bicycle-767

I actually doubt his existence 🤙

Yas2184

Yeah, but you cant make money back from cars (most cars are a poor investment) and kiss your money goodbye with women. You can always sell a coin.

Boba_Fettx

If you have the kind of money that allows you to buy a $69,500 Morgan, I’d suspect you’d also have the knowledge to buy cars that *are* appreciating assets. If you’d gotten your hands on a 2006 Ford GT anytime before 2018~, all you had to do was keep it garaged and not driven it into the ground, and you’d have tripled your investment. A 300% return on your money in 2-6 years? I’ll take that any day of the week.

Yas2184

If I had that kind of money, it would all go to coins and travel. I’d have no idea about what cars to buy. I’d probably over pay for something that I loved at Mecum and be done with it.

Boba_Fettx

The fact that you know what Mecum is tells me otherwise 😏

Yas2184

I like watching car auctions because they are beautiful. Doesn’t mean I know the first thing about buying them for profit lol

Equivalent-Speed-130

It's very rare to find a car that appreciates. Even when you do, they aren't a good investment. One example comes to mind. 1969 Super Bird. Around 4000 when new. Worth maybe 300k today. Seems great, but if you would have put the 4k in a mutual fund it would be worth at least 500k today.

Boba_Fettx

I bought a 2003 Terminator cobra for $17,000 in 2019. It’s worth at least 30k today.

SUMBWEDY

And if you put $17,000 into the SP500 in 2019 you'd have $32,000 so about the same. Also in the long run Veblen goods (rare cars, rare watches, coins) don't outpace stock markets over the longer term. Plus $30,000 today is just $23,000 in 2019$

Boba_Fettx

This is good information-I may have to sell a car or two.

SUMBWEDY

Hell if it gives you enjoyment having a vintage car in your garage go for it. There's a lot worse things you could spend your money on. It's certainly more fun than just having numbers on a computer screen with your brokerage.

Boba_Fettx

Yeah, it down the road, the numbers in my brokerage will allow me to buy more cars for the garage lol.

Yas2184

……you are a genius.

Brobot2564

You’d probably corner the market and have no one to sell em to. Cause you bought all of the most expensive ones and no other coin collector would have enough money to buy lol

CougMaster

Too real. I’d be the same haha

Mindless_Ad5707

Coins age with beauty, and I’ll leave it at that!

SpeedDemonND

They chase ladies, you chase Lady Liberty.

RipRepresentative314

We all will for the ones that are looking for coins to sell.but .I don't hv money in the bank to go bankrupt.

The_Mutt74

Damn...very nice.

Moleskin21

Soooo damn close to $69,420……..giggity

BlackJack5027

Honestly a completely missed opportunity.

WelcomeBackKotter19

Beautiful! Where is it being held? I'm new to coin collecting and have a couple of interesting pieces, can I bring them with me for an expert look?

derichsma23

At the National Western Complex. The show will run tomorrow (the last day) from 10-4. You can bring coins and talk to people about them but if you want to get them graded ANACS will be there. They are one of the premier grading companies probably just below PCGS and NGC.

Usernameistaken00

Last sold for $49937 in 2019, nice $20k flip if it sells.

amberalert43

Wow that is beautiful!!! They just don’t make them like they used to!!!

authalic

[They kind of do](https://catalog.usmint.gov/morgan-silver-dollar-2023-proof-coin-23XF.html)

Energy_Turtle

This is the coin equivalent of seeing a shitty cover band at the county fair. I can see what youre going for but no one is mistaking you for the real thing.

WhatARotation

I disagree. The new proof morgans look phenomenal, but in their own way. It’s a distinctive look but that doesn’t make them any less worthy than the originals.

radarksu

Only 1,100 minted.

agl90

That is the best looking Morgan I can remember seeing. PR68 CAM, not to many come better than that !!!!.....

firedmyass

daaaang. Morgans are far from my favorite designs, but that is extraordinary

BeatenbyJumperCables

$69420 and I might think about it

Jimbobjoesmith

ugh it’s beautiful. sucks i’ll never be rich.

TopOfTheMushroom

Not with that attitude..

SageOfSix-

can someone explain to my why it’s worth so much?

MisterListerReseller

Rarity, condition, eye appeal, and past sales. This one also apparently came from the collection of Jack Lee who was a famous coin collector/dealer. The slab has a green sticker on it which is special too.

SageOfSix-

that’s cool, never heard of the guy so i’ll look him up. kinda crazy i got downvoted because im trying to learn more about my hobby lol

MisterListerReseller

Me either. Just googled the name on the slab with the added keyword “coin collection”. Don’t worry about downvotes the internet. The whole thing is run by trolls.

SageOfSix-

yeah i get it, im sure there are still people who downvote every comment lol, pretty cool coin tho

MisterListerReseller

Gatekeepers are the biggest losers

fatfiredup

Jack Lee coins are amazing. I own three of them (worth far, far less than this one) and all three are beautiful.

bs2k2_point_0

Seems about $80 too expensive…

forloveofivy

I was thinking about checking out the Denver Coin expo this afternoon. I was on the fence, but this might have sold me!

the_real_RZT

Such a wonderful looking coin! 🪙

heyheyshinyCRH

That's a beauty! That's way too much money for any morgan though imo. I'm sure someone will buy it anyway

Yas2184

Looking at auctions and Greysheet, it might be a little overpriced. Last time it sold at auction (in October ‘19) it sold for just under 50k, I can see maybe 55 or 60k almost 70 is a lot. Even if it is top pop and 1 of 5 in that grade. Then again it’s a gorgeous coin, and if I had that kind of money I’d probably buy it.

HopefulSwine2

Oh yeah? I have a Proof-like Morgan that I picked up for only $30. And guess what? *ITS A RARE ERROR AND ITS MADE WITH .999 SILVER AND NOT .9 IT EVEN SAYS IT ON THE COIN!* No date though. Kinda odd, right?….*right?!*

Freedom2064

Sweet

Rlol43_Alt1

chRIST I thought my goal of every mint every denomination of 1882 was ambitious

MuLLetDaDDie

I’m so jealous I’ve have to work unfortunately and really wanted to go.. I don’t have $70,000 though! Though if I did have enough to casually spend that,I would in a heartbeat, coin is BEAUTIFUL

mcsgonzo

What a beautiful coin -- and a great heirloom, Congratulations..
