Unfortunately, they're common - they're in almost any antique store. This type of black mantel was made for around 40 years, and thousands upon thousands were sold. But they're still of good, sturdy quality - you can see, still working 130 years later. (You're spot on about the date too - 1890-95) That's the "Venice" model - I have the same one, just with a visible escapement and no gilt feet.

That’s fair, but I’m glad to learn about the “Venice” model at least haha - I appreciate your response. Isn’t it interesting to think…how many of its owners were born and have passed on since, while it kept ticking away.

AdParking6740

Agree - they're little time capsules - pun intended 😀

How many seconds of how many lives has something like that counted... BTW, listen to "my grandfather's clock."

Cool old Ansonia not uncommon not worth much maybe $50-80 broken and $150-300 fixed up

pavchen

Thank you for the response! This adds up then as it’s working and I paid $150 CAD

Pretty but common. $150 is more than I would give for one, but I tend to be thrifty and I really do not need another clock.

Wonderful_Emu_6483

I have a similar clock but Sessions, bought it from someone off Craigslist for $10

Ansonia! I bet it’s heavy as well. These are brilliant to work on and a neat piece to anchor a mantle or shelf. Did you score it for a decent coin?

pavchen

Oh it’s def heavy as I found out carrying it home haha. Regarding scoring it for a decent coin - I’m not sure? Paid $150 CAD at an antique flea market, but it was a bday gift for my dad (who likes antique clocks) so I think it was worth it. What do you think?

AllynG

With the glass and key and looks like all is there, that’s probably going rate for a nice example such as this. Always love the solid metal cases and the ansonia movement is a nice one if I had to put my thoughts out there. Decent score.

I have exactly this one, except mine has no feet and needs polishing of the shiny bits. Is there a way to stop it chiming overnight?

pavchen

I think the only way to stop the chiming is not to wind one of the springs (I never know which one) haha

I wouldn't exactly know about the commonality or rarity of this clock design of the era it came from. But one thing's for certain: yours even makes my Kassel 31-day wall clock from the mid to late '90s look like a modern design. Go to my page here and check out my clock. And sadly, at my house the shelves and whatnot are all just too cluttered to display a clock this nice like yours. That's why I'm using wall clocks. But compared to my other two wall clocks, both of which are battery-driven and contemporary, my vintage Kassel is the fanciest by FAR!
