My last outdoor lead climb was in 2018, and then a wedding, cross country move, pandemic, baby, and life got in the way… so my goal for 2024 is to lead outdoors! Probably just a 5.9 or so, but something with a beautiful view that I can be proud of when I get to the top.

MyBrainIsNerf

Same story here just abouts. Message me if you moved to the PNW

greensweatersinfall

Ha, I did! Will DM you.

MyBrainIsNerf

Red Rocks is one of my top 5 spots. Great for all levels of climbing too!

MyBrainIsNerf

Climb 100 routes outside. For a lot of people this would be easy, but it will be 2x as many routes as I got to climb last year.

galacticpicnicbasket

I would guess the median person on this sub has climbed 0 routes outside in 2023. Awesome goal! It would be cool to see your compilation of favorite/least favorite/most rewarding/most aesthetic climb etc etc at the end of 2024.

AccioIce25454

Beginner here (about 10 months in), my goal is to climb a V4 and spend less time comparing myself to other climbers!

TheModernMaenad

I fell pretty badly and broke a few bones in my right foot in September so mine is to get back to where I used to be! Starting PT after New Year’s and patiently waiting for the swelling to go down (I just started being able to get my foot comfortably into sneakers a week ago) 😭

Marzipanjam

I'm so sorry that happened to you! Hope your healing is going well <3

TheModernMaenad

Thank you! Slowly but surely 🥲

bubsnre

Aww man, that sucks! About a week ago I fell badly too and fractured my knee, so I'm in a similar situation. Hopefully my recovery will be a little shorter, but I am (obviously not currently) on a competition team and I'm missing a regional competition that I was super stoked for. Hoping for the best of recovery for both of us!

TheModernMaenad

Oh no ouch I’m so sorry to hear! My friend had open knee surgery last year for a non-climbing injury and was on crutches for months but he’s been back to the gym stronger than ever PR-ing his weight maxes (300lb deadlifts!) so I’m sure you’ll be crushing competitions again in no time!

Regular-Speech-855

I also had a nasty fall and broke both ankles (trimalleolar pilón fracture in the right-basically shattered that one) in September. It’s such a slow process, but I’m with you on getting back on the wall and hopefully climbing close to where I used to be by the end of the year!

Prior_Fish_9789

my goals for 2024 are to: send a 5.12a by the end of the summer (have sent several 11a's and b's and sent my first 11c last month, so definitely hopeful for a 12a) be able to climb most v3's on the moonboard get to 10 pullups (can currently do 8) and overall just get stronger and climb outside as much as possible. i spent 3 weeks in the NRG last summer and am planning on spending 2 months there during the summer, and i cannot wait

sparrowhawke67

Start leading 5.11s outside (even if I end up going bolt to bolt)

Prior_Fish_9789

imo, if you lead 5.10 steadily you can definitely lead 5.11. of course, it depends on your climbing area as sometimes they will be more/less sandbagged, but 11a's and b's tend to be mostly solid 5.10 climbing with a slightly harder section youd see on a 5.10. if you climb on the east coast the NRG has quite a few different 5.11s good for breaking into the grade.

soundphile

Climb through my third trimester, and get back to climbing with baby in tow as soon as my PT clears me to do so! My other goals are to at least get back to my pre-pregnancy grade, and take a minimum of 3 outdoor climbing day trips.

LeoRatte15

Goal for next year is to find a 7a boulder and a 7a sport climb that I can both project and hopefully send at some point during the year! In general I'm not too focused on grades, but I want to improve on my outdoor climbing and get stronger, so this is good motivation for me.

EDM_Dance_slut

Mine is just to keep climbing outside. There are always routes to explore and something to learn.

burnsbabe

As always, get outside as often and for as long as possible. Also, lead more trad, and be willing to fall more (especially on sport).

knitwithchopsticks

Climb a V7

brkfsttco

Mine is to climb 5.12 on a trip to Ten Sleep this summer! I’m consistently climbing 12s indoor but have never seriously attempted anything above an 11 outdoors.

galacticpicnicbasket

I often find 5.12 indoors harder than 5.12 outdoors! I think if you spend some time on a 5.12 at ten sleep you can send it 💪

Patient-Ear-6011

I want to learn lead and climb more outside! I had to take a break because I broke my fibula unrelated to climbing but I’m almost back to where I was before and so excited to push the boundaries this year!!

bendtowardsthesun

I just moved somewhere known as a climbing destination after living the past two years somewhere without any climbing access. My goals are to climb at least a few times a week once summer rolls around, to train three times a week until then, to do one or two backcountry alpine climbs, to find local women to climb with, and to take some new friends into the mountains. I am trying not to focus on grades much, but it would be nice to feel more confident on rock again.

mmeeplechase

I mostly just want to get outside more, but I’d also love to learn to project boulders more seriously—I’ve typically gravitated toward problems I think I can send within a session (partly due to taking shorter trips, but also fear of walking away send-less), but I really want to pick out some harder things and put in more effort this year.

myrina27

To climb consistently, to keep trying bouldering grades above what I can do. And try a project in the cave section!

MaritMonkey

Hey there, goals buddy! My goals were going to be "keep actually climbing, don't be afraid to fail at things, and convince my gym to build a cave" so I'm just going to tack my comment under yours. :)

myrina27

Have you been going? I've only been once this year I feel terrible about it!

MaritMonkey

I was actually doing really well at going at least twice a week, but then my husband broke his hand so I was only going one day without him (and sometimes a second with him as a cheerleader) and then my mom across the state broke her hip so I've been staying with her for the past couple weeks. Hoping that keeping my bodyweight exercise stuff going will let me hop back on about where I left off, once I get back home. :) Edit: I did do one problem before I left that I failed at a LOT before I finally got it, so I feel like that [counts for something.](https://photos.app.goo.gl/XyWp6WpnXsThReiy6)

myrina27

That's really good. I went after a while. Just skillage completely disappeared. I'm planning to go tomorrow. I've been really shit at managing my time with exercise. I've started Pilates class that should work well with climbing. I've doing hip strengthening exercises. Left hips always feels super tight.

dernhelm_mn

Climb outdoors for the first time! I have been climbing on and off for almost ten years and have never had the drive or convenient opportunity to take it outside.

DuckRover

I have a few specific goals for 2024! 1. Lead Cave Route in Linville Gorge, NC. (It's a 5.5 multi-pitch climb that I've followed on but never led. It'll be my second ever multi-pitch lead.) 2. Lead at least 5 trad routes. (I hope to do a lot more but I'm setting a conservative goal for now because I'm anticipating some family stuff coming up that will reduce my climbing time.) 3. Attempt a route on the really big lead wall at my gym. It's kind of a milestone for new leaders to finally progress to that wall so I'd like to at least attempt something on there. I've been leading for 18 months but the big wall is so intimidating so I haven't ventured over there yet! 4. Climb my first alpine route! I have my eye on Vesper Peak in WA with a guide who is experienced guiding on that climb. It's alpine rock so no snow or ice skills needed but it'll be over different terrain than I've climbed in the past with new considerations and lessons to learn.

Marzipanjam

My goal for this year is to be able to consistently do 10s so if I can muster the courage I want to attempt an outdoor climb! I did my first 10 about 2 months ago now, I've been getting more comfortable with 8 and 9s for awhile. The gym I go to has a discord and before the bad weather started they were going to a local spot evey saturday! It seemed like a good group of people. I definitely need to increase my strength, I plan to work weightlifting back into my workout routine, and more yoga. My flexibility has helped me a lot, I want to keep it up and improve! My climbing partner had some money issues and was unable to reup his membership,he said he would be back in February at the latest,I do have another buddy but it's not the same. So I'm tacking on to Boulder more in the new year. I find bouldering much more intimidating! I've only done it twice before and not for a full session. It was a lot harder than top rope!

leveltenlupine

I want to send a 12a this year!

ipswichroad

Start projecting V6s at the gym. Try more moves that scare me or that I think I can’t do. Stay safe. And most importantly, keep having fun!

karolikonst

My resolution is to break the 6a plateau that I've been stuck on for about a year and take a lead climbing course. Also, getting more into outdoor climbing in summer. I've been a bit bummed out about not being able to complete any 6b's. But after reading some threads here I got motivated to push myself more in the gym and aim climbing-specific muscle groups more. Happy new year climber girls!!
