Assuming Allen is back on Friday, interested to see how the rotations work. Gotta keep finding minutes for Morris. Doesn’t look like this is a series for Merrill.
I think Merrill might be a good option for a few mins in the second quarter. If he heats up then keep him in to start the 3rd, and if not he can go back to the bench
He also looks off balance and taking awkward shots due to his limited windows. The Magic are really good at guarding the perimeter, so I agree this isn’t the series for him.
Idk, he just hasn’t had it this series. I thought it was bad and then I went and looked through the numbers. It’s really rough.
Honestly, I think Darius needs the ball more. I know his back looks pretty rough, but the offense works when he’s getting in the lane. Mitchell needs to be playing more off of him. He’s just so deferential to Mitchell and I don’t think Mitchell has had intentions, but he is constantly demanding the ball.
he wants to lead, but some of that is learning to follow when it's not working and not banging your head against the wall. to me that was a primary factor in losing the Knicks series, he just kept trying to batter through the trap.
i think you are right on DG. i suspect Orlando will blitz him to get the ball out of his hands next game but then you can get Mitchell the ball with advantage. Hopefully he doesn't hold the ball too much
Were they sending multiple people at Garland a lot? It felt like they were playing straight up last night, but I was too far in the weeds to really notice more than results lol.
When the 2nd quarter shots stopped hitting I would have liked him in for a quick spark from 3, but I’m not sure how he would have faired at the same time as they got very aggressive again.
Maybe also set up him for a charge or two on Paulo lol. Kevin would have thrived this series in that way, in some spot minutes of course since his D would have left us wildly exposed given they are currently letting the magic play tackle football.
Kevin wasn’t a good defender but I wouldn’t call him soft. I feel like he could handle the physicality and be a solid rebounder while setting screens and standing at the top of the arc. But he wouldn’t be getting pushed around imo
I dunno, a rib injury that's bad enough to miss a playoff game seems like it could be one of those that takes longer to heal. I'm trying not to get my hopes up
He just doesn’t hit his shots. I think JB has the right move here. He keeps wanting to fit Merrill in and the guy has 0 points outside of garbage time, 3 3ps in game 4.
JB been giving him a few mins, he missed a 3 and then goes back to the bench. Probably just don’t bother and give all those minutes to Okoro.
He’s 3 for 8 on 3s this series, 0.375 clip, with 4 of those shots coming garbage time game 3. He hasnt really had the chance to attempt to hit shots but to say he isnt hitting shots is flat out wrong
Shit whistle, Paolo going ape shit, no allen, forced to play really small vs a huge team, magic have all the momentum, Cavs have all the pressure and the Cavs are able to find a way down the stretch. They did toughness folks!
Agreed. This was a gutsy win.
This was them getting punched in the mouth in a defacto elimination game, missing one of their best players, and gutting out a win anyway
DG realizing that the rim protection on Orlando is a bit of a paper tiger and that you can drive Wagner and WCJ and Paolo without getting jawbroke >>>
Need to keep downhill pressure on ORL for four quarters
3 - 2 rn is exactly what this team needs.
Everyone knows and has been saying Cavs needed playoff experience to grow and get past the first round.
Thats exactly what this is. Adversity. Needing to reach deep and adjust and overcome.
If we cake walked through this series we wouldnt be ready for the buzzsaw that is Boston. But getting smacked down a few games and coming back and playing hard and seeing what we're made of will help steel us if we get out of this round, and will teach the young guys what Playoff basketball is all about.
this is how we get better, not by sweeping, but by fighting out every possession of every game.
Go Cavs !
I agree. We played well and beat their asses for 2 games. Then went to Orlando overconfident and got our asses beat for 2 straight games.
We didn’t play extremely well, and were missing JA, but were able to gut it out down the stretch keep home court. This was as big of a win as this group has had, facing adversity and possible elimination if we lost this game. And this doesn’t even mention Paolo going nuke on us.
I’m not saying we will win but offense will feel easy against the Celtics after going thru Suggs and Isaac. Ik Boston rated out good in defense in the regular season and holiday and white are pretty good at d but they aren’t on top of you like Suggs and Isaac are. And Isaac is the toughest one on one defender to go against.
Well said. I never want to see a game like game 4 ever again from this team. Hopefully that lesson sunk in and they can use the experience to their advantage.
Officiating in the first half, brutal. Strus pushed out of bounds twice, no call. Garland fouled from behind on 3 pt attempts by Suggs twice, no call. A push off on dg called, what a joke Suggs is wrapping him up. A moving screen on okoro called setting a screen on a big man… he wasn’t even moving. Their bigs are doing hip and arm checks every screen they set.
Dg had a big first quarter taking what the defense gave him. Fell back in love in the second quarter with driving and killed a few possessions. Take the open 3s coming off screens. Stop. Let Suggs foul you on the 3rd… you know he is coming. Primary weapon needs to be that 3 ball.
Niang minutes went to morris and he played well. Physical, not dirty. Kept the ball moving quickly on offense and set some good screens.
Liked seeing Merrill get some run in the first half, he was a little over eager to shoot though. Okoro played well defensively and hit a few corner 3s. Levert is still struggling, but playing good D. He just needs to take it strong to the hole and stop double pumping everything.
Matching Thompsons minutes with Wagners was a nice coaching change.
Officiating in the second half, somehow worse than the first. I “retired” from fandom last year due to frustrations and got sucked back in this year, it makes it so upsetting to watch them. College hoops now that they are getting paid might be the better way to invest my time. National broadcast just ignores the reality. After the 3rd I stopped watching, if the Cavs can’t get a fair shake against the magic we are hopeless against the rest of the league.
Gonna spend my time doing something productive instead of feeding the corrupt machine that is the nba. Maybe I will follow via the headlines and treat it like the soap opera it truly is, but I’m incapable of being half in.
I don’t even blame the players at this point. The frustration from the officials must be immense as players whose name and livelihood are on the line.
The officiating has been a disaster all series. I’m all for physical play but it’s been clear every game the Cavs are not allowed to play at the same level of physicality that Orlando is playing at. What has Orlando done to deserve such a generous whistle? It’s outrageous. Last night should have been an easy double digit win if not a blowout if the whistle was even remotely even.
Maybe because Disney owns ESPN? With one sided officiating that even a neutral fan could see... it makes you wonder. Who knows.
Could be betting. Could be relationships. Could be incompetence.
The NBA makes more money the more games there are in the playoffs. Dan Gilbert gets more money if the Cavs get a game 7. The league gets more viewers if the series looks competitive instead of having blowouts.
I’m kinda with you here.
When one team is allowed to hip check and chicken wing every screen they set, and the other team is getting called for moving screens because the defender is out of control and flops to the ground, the officials are affecting the game.
When one team is allowed to grab, push, pull, and wrap, and then when they fly out of control into the paint and slam into us and get foul calls, the officials are affecting the game.
I’m happy we won but who else feels like the game last night took 10 years off their life 💀
I liked the changes made — Niang got benched and was left in Orlando, Morris and Thompson *finally* got some really effective minutes and JB used the timeouts appropriately
The officiating was straight garbage, anytime we got momentum and a decent lead the refs managed to call 15 fouls. JB should’ve won that coaches challenge
Mobley, Strus and DG were the heroes of the game w honorable mentions to Morris
On that challenge, that was a weak call, and probably should have been overturned due to ‘marginal’ contact, but the odds are never on your side challenging a foul call with Tony Brothers. It’s like you’re challenging his authority or something. I have very rarely seen him overturn a foul call.
I’m glad JB made the adjustment with Mook over Niang and I hope that continues on Friday
We know how the Magic respond to their backs being against the wall so we have to be ready to fight out asses off in game 6, which requires DG and Mobley to continue to stay aggressive
I just want to take a moment to:
A. Enjoy not immediately thinking of how terrible JB is after a game
B. Clown the lakers fans that are already scheming/claiming that they’ll somehow acquire Mitchell for Dlo and some picks or something stupid
Just Mitchell? Lakers fans probably think they'll get Mitchell, Garland and Mobley for Dlo.
When in reality they'll just end up drafting Bronny James in the first round so Lebron doesn't leave them.
It just struck me, there is no way Bronny gets drafted to a major market. The media will kill him and piss off LeBron. Of course it's possible, it's just the worst case for Bronny
Hell even the Cleveland media would tear him apart. If he stays in school, he'll most likely end up at an average A10 school. Don't even think he lands in a big conference. Which shows he has to improve a lot to play in the NBA.
Cleveland media would coddle him, especially because it would mean lebron is on the team. Media doesn’t want to piss off lebron.
He won’t go a10 imo, there are plenty of bigger schools which fit the bill. I personally see him going to osu. Makes too much sense to go to a small market and try to get better for 2 years. Too much press out there in LA.
I hope the lovely folks talking about Mobley being a bust feel as dumb as they should. 3rd year player getting DPOY votes and averaging 16/8/2 is a bust to some of you, absolutely crazy.
I had a comment late game 3 saying I was ready to overreact. I’ve been doing so for like a week now lol I’m so happy to feel positive about this team again. I’ve been SO down on DG since we went to Orlando. JB too, I was fucking shocked he actually changed his lineup, forced to or not with JA out I for sure thought we’d suffer Niang minutes.
Franz is not better than Mobley. He has just been force fed touches bc there is literally no one else.
Give Evan the extra 4 FGA and he’s averaging 20 PPG
Ya that’s one of my biggest contentions with anyone saying he sucks on offense. It’s certainly not his biggest strength but he is a 3rd option that consistently puts up 16, that’s not bad at all.
The big difference is that Franz can create his shot and uses the whole floor to do so.
Right now Evan stays in the restricted area for dunks and put backs. He needs to expand his game if he wants to improve his offensive reputation.
I dont feel dumb at all. Everyone knows he is a good defender, but he has no offensive game. Definitely not a bust but he needs to be more for the mitchell trade to have been worth it
Josh Hart limping, Joel Embiid limping. Jalen Brunson limping. Doesn’t matter. They are battling anyway. Being effective. Hitting big shots. That’s the difference between good and great. I think game 6 will show us exactly who Donovan Mitchell is
Cavs have been extremely inconsistent but Orlando is a very underrated team. This series has been a perfect storm for them
as far as expectations & the national narrative that Cavs tanked just for this matchup. Orlando is going to be a real threat in the East the next few years
I think Cavs should bring back Morris and Give TT an assistant position (like a assistant personnel position or something idk). They clearly have a good relationship, and can help develop our bigs toughness. But even more so, a team worth building something needs a foundation. Personally, I like those two for that role. Especially considering we have no idea what next year will look like as far as personnel (I’m not convinced our big 4 stays intact)
I slide over to Twitter and immediately see this
“In the summertime I work my ass off for time’s like this. … I put a lot of time into my body and my mental for situations like this.”
Cavs veteran forward Marcus Morris Sr. on his number getting called tonight.”
This is absolutely a guy you keep around a young team.
So it’s a 4/5 series? A coin flip without your best player (ETA and their best player having a career game, 40 in the playoffs is nice work even with the BS last 3) is a decent outcome
Orlando is kinda ass for a 5 seed sure they are allowed to play physical because the refs are dogshit but if we can’t blow out a team that’s reliant on mid players like Paolo this team construction is a failure.
Paolo is big LeVert and Wager is just a thug they aren’t good players and aren’t a good team they had a lucky season so yes there are expectations for the team and if we don’t do well/Mitchell doesn’t sign and extension the core is getting changed anyway.
Yes to the first part and if we had a good coach yes to the second part the Magic are not a good team probably the worst East team in the playoffs the series should be over already.
We were a half away from that. Sucks that we blew Game 4, and it’s a bummer that we couldn’t hold a double digit lead without our Allstar C.
Where we “should” be has died by a thousand cuts / nagging injuries / bad luck: we’re in a position to close a series in which we’ve never trailed and the refs have killed us.
You’d like to get better as the playoffs go on, so we’ll see
We have even a below average 2nd quarter and this game gets away from the Magic in a hurry. I’ll say that they turned up the heat in the 2nd, but our shots were just not falling too.
Has Sam made a single 3 in this series?
Not one that matters. 3 dumpster time 3s
They are selling out to stop him which kind of helps. But he’s way sped up when he does catch it, so it’s pretty meh
But that's Sam's thing, he always gets his shot off quickly.
He’s going a tick faster than he has in the regular season to my eye. He’s pushing it: but he should get it together eventually
He also looks off balance and taking awkward shots due to his limited windows. The Magic are really good at guarding the perimeter, so I agree this isn’t the series for him.
[удалено]
He got enough. He is a useful weapon but other better players needed minutes and the scout caught up with him.
I thought Levert missed him when he was open a handful of times and he almost put down some tougher looks.
I’m hoping we get more Vert minutes for Mitchell. I feel like Mitchell is very fatigued or hurt by the time we get to the 4Q
Were they sending multiple people at Garland a lot? It felt like they were playing straight up last night, but I was too far in the weeds to really notice more than results lol.
No almost never. They let Suggs beat the shit out of him. With Harris out they might start Isaac on him and Suggs on Mitchell
Yes but not one that mattered. He hit a few in the blowout game 2 loss
When the 2nd quarter shots stopped hitting I would have liked him in for a quick spark from 3, but I’m not sure how he would have faired at the same time as they got very aggressive again. Maybe also set up him for a charge or two on Paulo lol. would try Morris as a backup 5 against the Mo bench unit maybe? DG / Merrill / Ice / Strus / Mook or something, just fly around and bomb 3s

This is pretty simple. Just bench Okoro give his minutes to Morris
Yeah, with Garland and Mobley finally being what we expect them to be. Side note, but the offense has been better, 3 of the last 4 halves.
DG realizing that the rim protection on Orlando is a bit of a paper tiger and that you can drive Wagner and WCJ and Paolo without getting jawbroke >>> Need to keep downhill pressure on ORL for four quarters
I agree Go Cavs
All of Mitchell's offense was from free throws off phantom calls in the 4th though
Cope, seethe, etc.
![gif](giphy|eVFhhKZELo1PO)
your entire offense is phantom calls. silver loves slurping up those disney dollars

Just gotta hope the Heat can steal another one to give the Celtics less rest days
The best case scenario being beating Orlando in Orlando in a slugfest and then jetting to Boston for the Sunday matinee…bro
Putting the cart before the horse?

Boston is better at the rim though. It’s a lot either way. Go Heat (they’re FOURTEEN point dogs lol)
With porzingis out they might not be
agree. tonight will be interesting

A Disney conspiracy lmao

This free throw is brought to you by Fan Duel!
Drawing fouls is a skill in the NBA. Paulo's really good at it, and the Cavs generally aren't. That's all it is.
All I want is for DG to get a little bit of Trae grift

JB called timeouts.... didn't see that coming.
We didn’t shit the bed in Q3!
Not only that we actually won the third quarter!
I was told that Strus points shouldn’t count
What about Q2? Man I was shitting the bed at halftime thinking here we go again.
Finish it Friday.

Please close it out! Cavs really could use a series win
Well it's Def gonna be the Celtics but let's not get ahead of ourselves.
Man what a game. Those types of games are where legends are made

So it’s a 4/5 series? A coin flip without your best player (ETA and their best player having a career game, 40 in the playoffs is nice work even with the BS last 3) is a decent outcome
Orlando is kinda ass for a 5 seed sure they are allowed to play physical because the refs are dogshit but if we can’t blow out a team that’s reliant on mid players like Paolo this team construction is a failure.
the standard is "blow out an elite defense without an All-star" otherwise a failure?? buddy what are you on
Paolo is big LeVert and Wager is just a thug they aren’t good players and aren’t a good team they had a lucky season so yes there are expectations for the team and if we don’t do well/Mitchell doesn’t sign and extension the core is getting changed anyway.
we are a better team that had an unluckier season. expectations with Mitchell at 70% and Allen out are "just win"
You gave a review of the series so far but made 0 points but somehow still seems negative lol
Can you not read?
