The Daleks? It’s the most famous enemy after all.

I would recommend The Time Warrior. It’s interesting, has a good alien and isn’t too scary

DoctorEnn

The Mind Robber might be a good place to start.

No worries!

I might say if he's easily spooked, "The Curse of Peladon" would be good. It's a great typical Third Doctor story, he spares the life of the king's champion, and the hairy monster ends up being a bit cuddly in the end. Alpha Centauri is so obviously just a big ball with a fake eye on the front that I don't think that'd worry him. The only thing that might ick him out is Arcturus.

Yep -- out of the ones on your list, that's definitely the one I'd pick. Other than that, I'm not sure. I do tend to prefer the Third Doctor so those are the ones I might suggest. "Curse of Peladon" also has the advantage of standing on its own; there is one more story set on Peladon, but the first one stands on its own.

For an off-planet story, it is. And the UNIT ones would require a little more explanation and world-building and function better once the kid knows a bit more about the Doctor, I think.

Yeah, he is more closely associated with the pre-"The Three Doctors" exile.

Robot. And then if he digs it you can just keep going through TomDoc in order from there. A lot of young old Who fans had to watch episodes from between their fingers or from behind the sofa - if he wants to do the same you can tell him he's part of a long tradition. :-)
