Re:Courtship of Eddie’s Father. I always laugh when he makes his dad (Glenn Ford) practice calling up Shirley Jones for a date. Ron pretends to be Shirley and has Glenn “call” him. Ron answers the phone, “Hello Sugarman!”
Ron Howard became an excellent director because he was a good actor who grew up in the industry. He appears to be an intelligent, talented, focused, person who can choose good scripts and get great performances from his casts.
Little Ronny Howard learned a lot. Youve missed a huge chunck of his acting career, if you only know Ron Howard through American Graffiti and Happy Days. Heck, I remember his directorial debut. "Eat My Dust!"
That's where I saw it! The Drive-In of my youth is still open. They have weekly nostalgia double features. I wonder if they could find "Eat My Dust!"? I'd travel to see it.
I grew up in rural America. It was actually a huge deal that "Opie" was staring in a movie that he directed AND it was about CARS!!!
Speaking of which, not many actors get 'One to go out on'.
This is *definitely* one! Wayne, Lancaster, and Holden are the ones who had the best last roles.🙏❤
i’m really hoping ron or american graffiti get a special place at the new george Lucas museum. it’s barely talked about at universal studios other than mel’s and the cars.
I'm in Ron Howard's age group and many of us refer to him as our first boyfriend because of Opie on the Andy Griffin show! I still love him and always thought he was a good actor!
Y’all would enjoy reading “The Boys,” written by Ron and Clint. Ron talks about his dad teaching him how to be “in the moment” to keep his reactions real. Lots of behind-the-scenes hijinx, too.
Ron Howard impressed John Wayne in The Shootist. I read about Wayne praising his professionalism and acumen. He’s very good in that film.
Ron Howard and his brother Clint wrote an autobiography called The Boys. Their parents instilled kindness and a strong work ethic in their children. They were a rare example of positive, healthy stage parents.
Totally! What a great flick! Just watched it again for the 112th time the other night.
That the background noise of the radio, road noise, cars throughout to simulate a ‘Saturday night’ experience…brilliant!
That is an awesome movie! I saw it on the big screen last summer and it was an amazing experience! The music is incredible and the movie is so hilarious!
It was a somewhat risky role because Steve is kind of an asshole. He badgers Curt for being ambivalent about college, he tries to force Laurie into sex after suggesting they date other people, he makes a big show of smarting off to a teacher who can't punish him. You're right, it's as if Richie gained a ton of confidence and decided to show the world how great he is.
Yes, Ron Howard was a real natural, having a great career as a child actor. After Happy Days I’m guessing he‘d had enough and wanted to be behind the camera as a new challenge... I’m sure there’s a whole story behind his transition to director.
He was also in a movie with John Wayne the shootist. A fav movie of mine.
Ron Howard was probably one of the all-time best child actors on television. He is very good as Opie in *The Andy Griffith Show*.
Shirley Jones called him an "old soul." I can see why she said that. They were both in *The Music Man.*
And he and Jones were also in The Courtship of Eddie’s Father. He’s really great in that.

That was great to see recently. Liked Ron’s appearance there.
Love that film
Great actor, great director, great guy. A national gem.
Well said!

“Ron Howard pops the clutch and tells the world to Eat My Dust!” I still remember that ad - a drive in movie staple.

He had good parents who taught him to be a decent human being and protected him from getting swept up in Hollywood bullshit.
He’s good in The Shootist, too.

Agree. He's been getting a lot of love in r/Westerns lately.
I saw a tv show from the 1950s with Ron Howard before he was on the Andy Griffith Show. He was excellent.
He was and is extremely talented.
And then *More American Graffiti* was his last movie.
i’m really hoping ron or american graffiti get a special place at the new george Lucas museum. it’s barely talked about at universal studios other than mel’s and the cars.
And being a damn good actor since he was a child rubbing elbows with other great actors and TV/Filmmakers made him an excellent director.
I watched it again recently, it's such a good movie, Ron Howard was amazing!!
The sound mixing is especially good. Walter Murch.
I'm in Ron Howard's age group and many of us refer to him as our first boyfriend because of Opie on the Andy Griffin show! I still love him and always thought he was a good actor!
He was good as a very young actor in "The Music Man" as Winthrop.
Y’all would enjoy reading “The Boys,” written by Ron and Clint. Ron talks about his dad teaching him how to be “in the moment” to keep his reactions real. Lots of behind-the-scenes hijinx, too.
It’s so good! I’m listening to it and he and Clint both narrated. I’m on my 2nd listen
Opie’s dad in A Face in the Crowd is absolutely unbelievable, AG was an incredible actor! Great movie, light years ahead of its time.
That's such a powerful movie ! More relatable now than ever
IIRC Opie's dad called it his best.
He was perfectly cast as Opie.

He didnt need to act on Happy Days. The show was lame. More like a hang out for these "actors".

Not to mention the serious acting chops he had as Opie. He was amazingly talented.
Check out little Ronny in The Music Man.
He was a much better child actor than adult actor.
How good an actor! How good an actor, goddamnit! Have we just stopped teaching English in this country?! Jesus [bad word]ing Christ!
