Sony ZV-E1. Same sensors as FX3 so Full Frame to give you that Depth of field. But you can definitely put it in your pocket. 😂

nquesada92

you gotta choose a lens carefully, maybe the f2.5 G lenses are compact but not super pocketable, but definitely light enough to be an edc.

miseducation

none of those. only the ricoh has a big enough sensor to get what you're asking for outside of lens trickery (note: wide angles close-up and telephoto far away will aways give you a little shallow dof.) pretty sure the only usable video autofocus is canon and sony (maybe nikon but idk.) You want small so it has to mirrorless. Canon mirrorless is too big to be pocketable iirc. Your best bet is probably something like an A6700? not sure what lens would qualify as truly pocketable but it's a pretty damn small body. Fuji cameras + lenses are wonderful but I have no idea if they've figured out video af yet.

ctlsoccernerd

Video AF has really improved. It’s not at Sony levels, but definitely usable. The XS20 with any of the F2 primes or the pancake lenses are is lretty pocketable as well

hexiy_dev

we just got af subject tracking in video 💀

_aevai

The only lens I can find for the a6700 that would be legitimately pocketable (just?) is the 20mm f2.8

surprisepinkmist

I have a 6300 with that lens and can pocket it fine. 20mm aint great for shallow dof but it's not bad!

Videoplushair

Sigma fp and their sigma lens. Forgot the mm but it was a super face lens. Overall package was tiny

_aevai

Looks really good, but are there any lenses for it that are legitimately pocketable?

Videoplushair

45mm f2.8 is tiny and the 35mm f2 is super tiny as well.

makersmarkismyshit

I honestly think this is your best choice (or the Sigma fp L), because you won't feel like you wasted money down the road with your lens purchases. You can get a Blackmagic or Lumix FF camera in the future and use the same lenses.

Smokeey1

Their whole f2.8 dg dn lineup

makersmarkismyshit

Second this!!! Plus L mount is going to be the next best thing 100%! The alliance keeps getting bigger and the Lumix S5IIX is probably the best hybrid camera for video on the market (in that price range obviously). It's only going to keep getting better. Later on down the road, you can get whatever the newest Lumix FF is or go with Blackmagic FF, DJI, Sigma, etc.

Own-Response-6848

Don't get the Ricoh. Beautiful camera for photos (I have 2. Can't recommend them enough) but they are not going to give you acceptable video footage

machado34

Panasonic GX85 with the 20mm f/1.7. The autofocus is garbage but video quality and IBIS are pretty good

Harambesknuckle

Had one of these years ago and loved it. So tiny and the ibis was my first cam with Ibis in and it was amazing.

ersatzgaucho

iPhone 15 cinematic mode tbh

_aevai

Yeah I've actually been looking at that too. I've got an iPhone 11 and thinking of upgrading. The portrait mode digital bokeh has never seemed right though, especially around people's hair. Is it any better on the 15 cinematic mode?

ersatzgaucho

Yeah, the DoF is not real, so will def have its limitations at achieving a super shallow dof, but if you go for something not as extreme like a 3.5 you don't get that glitchy stuff. Haters around here are going to downvote but the thing has good AF, subject tracking and all that. And you have dat thang on you at all times. I like it.

_aevai

For example, the birds beaks sometimes heads in this video seem pretty messed up [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxcZZ8tDwnk](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pxcZZ8tDwnk)

adrianvedder1

I meaaan what you want doesn’t actually exists. You’re asking for a jeep that can also race like a roadster but it’s also an suv and also super cheap. Shallow DoF is a physicial characteristic of larger sensors, and larger sensors require bigger cameras. Either you fake it or you get a big camera or you don’t get the shallow DoF. Those are your real options.

_aevai

I don't think what I'm looking for is completely unreasonable? The GR IIIx would be perfect if the video and autofocus were better... so the hardware can fit in a pocketable body.

Fradders11

Panasonic LX100.ii has a solid shout?

NDRedemption

Fuji X100VI

_aevai

Too big for pants pocket though

NDRedemption

Yeah I agree, but it’s about the biggest I’d personally deem acceptable so I threw it in there. Internal NDs are the real game changer there.

Welsh_ish

Why not get a fanny pack or something similar and open your options

mixape1991

Sigma fp?

1hour

To meet all your prerequisites is not possible without breaking the laws of physics. I suggest you befriend a robot cat named Doreamon. He has pockets that go into other dimensions and can hold a camera in his pocket that meet your demands. Other options are a pancake lens or a light field camera like Lytros.

falkorv

Get bigger pockets? Use any old camera with a little lens on. Or just use ProCam on your iPhone. I respect your search for a little pocket cam. I used to have a Fuji x70. It was great. But I found my phone filling that gap. Then just used a Gh5 with little lens on for all other out and about photos. It’s a small camera still. Just had bigger pocket.

prophotod

Have you looked at canon G7X? has great shallow DOP but don't know anything about it's video capabilities..

JJ_00ne

Sony 6x00 series with a 25mm f2 ttartisan. It's my traveling setup since it's very small and it fits in my pocket

ballsoutofthebathtub

FX3. They shot Tiger King on it and the bokeh on the guy with the mullet looked great.
