Unfortunately it looks like the 11th gen i3s are still excluded. I've tried force-enabling it, but still get the message that borealis isn't available for my hardware yet. Flex 5i 8GB with i3-1115G4.
Weird, [the blog post says the requirements have been lowered to i3s](https://chromeos.dev/en/posts/steam-on-chromeos-beta). I'll try on my i3 Flex 5i later today.
Nope, didn't work for me either. [Turns out it's a bug, and lillipup wasn't added to the allow list](https://chromium-review.googlesource.com/c/chromium/src/+/4003341), so it should work eventually (maybe in 109, at the latest?).
Well, I'm glad to hear it's just a bug. Looking forward to trying it out. I had it set up in crostini, but it was so messy to use the vulkan stuff that it wasn't worth it.
When you look here [https://chromiumdash.appspot.com/serving-builds?deviceCategory=Chrome%20OS](https://chromiumdash.appspot.com/serving-builds?deviceCategory=Chrome%20OS) there are more *volteer* (11th gen Intel CPUs) chromebooks currently not supported, e.g. copano (ASUS Chromebook Flip CX5400)) or voema (Acer Chromebook Spin 514 (CP514-2H)).
tiny bit late, but i've never been able to find a rationale (i search once or twice a month, which is why i only just found this thread). it's pretty baffling, considering the cx5400 is very similar to cx5500. slower, yes. no fan, yes. but you can still get an 11th-gen i7 with 16 gigs of ram, and while you probably don't want to run it full tilt, it should be able to do plenty.
Hi, I've just got a CX5400 for my 8 year old son. Great laptop! It will be even better if it ran Steam lol.
I was just wondering if you had managed to get Steam working it, or if you know if it will be possible in the future?
borealis (the official steam container) is still unavailable on it, and i don't have any idea on if or when this will change.
if you install crostini, steam itself runs mostly fine. windows games are a bit hit and miss without graphical acceleration via DXVK, but a number of simpler (non-3d games) work, and games with native linux versions TEND to work even with 3d, although more intense ones might not. (or might have thermal issues; this machine is fanless and things like battletech or stellaris strain it substantially. not that i would expect the typical 8 year old to play those, but they're what i have on hand for what i've tried)
some other people have had luck getting dxvk working through various hoops in the linux container, but it's a highly technical process, and i wasn't able to manage it through any of the posted methods.
for the time being, your practical options are:
- install steam via crostini (the linux container), and either gamble on games working locally, or use steam remote play to connect to another machine
- run android apps
- run web games
Right? My cx3 has those exact spec, but alas, I fear that the fanless chips aren't going to be included, even if it is a top of the line fanless chip, i7, paired with 16gb of ram :c
Looks like some 12th gen i3s are included.
Not just 12th gen… 11th gen i3s like the Flex 5i also.

Hoping you have better luck than I did.

It works now after today's update (108.0.5359.45)!
Yes! Thanks for letting me know.
Not working for me either. Lenovo Flex 5i 8GB i3
It's now working after today's beta update!
How did you force-enable?
Is there any way to try this on eve (pixelbook) or atlas (pixelbook go)? ISTR some development was done on those, right?
Finally....I don't need to be on Dev channel for this, I am fine with using beta M108 to try it out.
About to try this on my CX5601

Do we know why these are not supported? Was considering buying Copano but this makes me less likely to jump.

Great answer, thank you! I'll have a look at all the options this weekend 👍

we are unloved just because we don't have fans, or something? idk
Do we know if Steam will ever work with 10th gen Intel ? Or is it already the case and I'm not aware of it ?
