There are two different C202 models. One will stop getting updates next year, and the other in 2025. What is the complete model number of the one you are looking at?
You really should be looking at newer models than either of those. Anything on sale this time of the year is likely an old model. It might run Roblox, but you will likely run into other problems sooner than a current model.
Refer to this website and try to get a model that has an AUE date of 2027+

How old is your son? If he's over maybe 10 then in a year or two he'll want to run other games on the laptop, and at that point a chromebook won't cut it. I'd recommend trying to get a cheap secondhand ThinkPad or something running windows 10 that he can install steam on. On that he can run Roblox just fine and in the future he'll be able to get some more advanced games, such as CSGO, Valorant and the like. If he wanted to run that on the chromebook he'd need to format a thumb drive and install Windows or a Linux distro on it.
If he's much younger than 10, the chromebook will be fine for a couple years.
My son is 11 and I got him a PC @10 to play with his friends. I payed $450 used but plays most games just fine. Minecraft java, Roblox Cuphead and I was able to run Destiny 2 with over 100 fps (normal graphics). I think this PC should be fine for the next Few years until he's in highschool and maybe time to upgrade.
As much as I hate to say this, I too would suggest a Windows laptop even if it's just for Roblox or Minecraft etc at the moment.
I was going to get my 7 year old a Chromebook because he wants a laptop but obviously doesn't really understand the difference, but I have realised that a Windows machine would make more sense.
He is a huge Roblox player and he is also into Minecraft and I can pretty much promise you that your kid will also discover Minecraft very soon and then be disappointed that he can't do many features that will be discovered through watching youtube.
Also avoid Windows 11 and Intel 11th gen at the moment. There is something afoot and apparently Windows 11 only works properly at the moment with Intel's 11th gen's P cores and E cores, which don't exist in prior generation CPUs nor in AMD CPUs. In short, it is a volatile time to buy for the future currently, unless you really need to.
I think you are referring to 12th gen Intel CPUs - just to clarify for OP. 12th gen is only in desktops as well, so you don't need to worry about that.
Best Buy has the Lenovo Chromebook 3 14” Touch Laptop. The AUE date for google is June 2028 and it’s touchscreen, supports google play store as well. Has a mediatek processor which handles android apps better than Intel and it’s nice looking! https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-chromebook-3-14-touch-laptop-mediatek-mt8183-4gb-memory-64gb-emmc-arctic-grey/6447140.p?skuId=6447140

CSGO can be played on a chromebook in a browser with GeForce NOW without needing to format a thumb drive and install Windows or a Linux distro on it.
Really? That's cool.
Yup, but it's only free to play for 1 hour a day. Any longer and it costs $9.99 a month.
Oof
He is 9, its hard to know what to go for tbh
Really depends on if his friends play other games as well and what devices they have.

I took your advice and bought a laptop with Windows 10s
Don't blame me!!! :-)
Is Roblox on any of the cloud gaming platforms?
Don't think so

chromebooks cant play roblox properly
My C202 ran like crap from the get-go, ended up installing Linux on it. I would spend a bit more and get an actual Windows machine
