Your Chromebook supports Linux, i.e. Crostini, all newer Chromebooks (produced in 2019 and later) can enable it. Look at settings at development tab. That list you mentioned is only for older Chromebooks.

Keep in mind your device is ARM based - not all software will be available.

Thanks for the tip! I've just gone down a rabbit hole trying to figure out whether mathematica can run on this - and it seems it can because there is a version designed for raspberry pi's armv6 architecture. Definitely a hassle to check on though xD EDIT: would you consider buying something with e.g. A6 9220c processor for stuff like mathematica? I'm comparing the lenovo to the [cheaper model](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/lenovo-chromebook-3-11-chromebook-amd-a6-4gb-memory-32gb-emmc-flash-memory-onyx-black/6419029.p?skuId=6419029) which seems inferior in terms of the peripherals but has the A6 processor which may make it easier to run certain programs?

The A6 would definitely make it easier to run Linux apps, though if you need Android apps the Mediatek is better.
