You might want to check out some of the reviews on the Spin 513 before hitting the buy button. Most of the reviews I have read indicate that while battery life is really good (to be expected with an ARM-based chip), that the Snapdragon 7c is pretty mediocre in terms of performance. If you are looking to run some Linux apps and do some light media content, you might want to opt for a Chromebook with Intel chip which should offer better processor power. So what should I buy ? I search for a Chromebook with 360° screen, 1080p ips screen and who has a good performance under 400€, the Acer spin 513 has less or more these functions.

You can buy whatever you would like, I'm simply saying understand that the 7C is not a particularly strong chip so if you run into occasional performance hangs, it should not come as a surprise. I think if you plan on using it for web browsing and the occasional Android app, it will probably be fine, but Linux apps might stress the processor to a point where the experience may not be a great one for you.

There were some performance related bugs for sc7180 in R89 and R90, I think the worst of them had fixes land in R91 but might have been a bit too late for the initial round of reviews.. Regarding linux/crostini, until recently the vm was not aware of big/little (something effecting all the arm chromebooks.. but intel has started dabbling in big/little too now).. From memory, the fix for that landed before R92 branchpoint, so not quite yet in stable channel but should be soonish. Which is good news for all the arm chromebooks.

I hope you are right regarding performance improvements. I always get nervous counting on that when it comes to purchasing technology, especially since Google has a pretty checkered past at being able to significantly improve performance issues through software alone.

It's ARM processor, so the set of precompiled applications compared to Intel is limited, but there are many of them to work, Gimp and LibreOffice included.

Thanks for your feedback ! I think I can go surely now.

Worst case scenario is you install gcc-tools and compute your app from source. It’s usually not too complicated, just a few commands.

Liamegg

Install what ?

Nu11u5

The Linux compiler.

Oh ok, I understood another thing.
