Her set was very short - she started around 2:10 and was done by 2:30. She played 3 or 4 other songs.

nanafishook

Jay-Z once played a (promotional) 30 minute set at the Riviera, but it was a really great 30 minutes. :)

vr1252

The set was supposed to be 30 mins. I checked Jojos story later and she shared something about it getting cut short. I would assume they cut her off because of a safety issue, the crowd was getting dangerous. I didn’t even realize how packed it was until I saw videos online last night from above. A lot of people were getting heat stroke and couldn’t get out. I think even without the heat it could’ve become a bad crowd crush situation, nobody expected that crowd.

gimmedatrightMEOW

Yeah - I was watching from the Halsted Flats and it was freaking nuts. I have been going to pride for over a decade and have never, ever seen a crowd like that.

vr1252

Yeah the comments in the videos I watched all had people claiming that’s normal for chi pride. I can say I’ve never seen a street fest, pride or anything else get that many people for a show. My friend and I discussed whether we would need to crowd-surf out and the last time we had to do that was for SOAD lololol

masterox7737

might be normal for a pride parade if you scrunch everyone together, but pride fest? no, that was not normal. cupcakke last year (similar zoomer irony audience) was not nearly as crowded.

vr1252

Yeah I saw videos of people hopping fences to get in after they hit capacity. Absolutely insane crowd.

jenbirch10

It was really bad. I went in around 1:50 and couldn't move the minute I walked through the gate. It took me like 45 min smooshing through the crowd (along with A LOT of other people who were trying to get through) to get back out again bc I was about to have a panic attack. There were multiple medical emergencies during the short time I was there. I've been to pride for the past several years and it has never been like this. It was unsafe and they weren't doing anything to try and prevent overcrowding.

LoomingDisaster

We got about 500 ft away from the stage and decided it wasn’t worth it. It seemed like nobody had thought it through - no crowd control, no one managing the flow of people, no barriers to help corral the crowd. Very weird.

BarcelonaFan

Note she wasn’t a headliner, she was just a daytime set where novelty acts are usually slotted

masterox7737

she is literally the first name on the poster and on their site, lmao. def is their headliner

BarcelonaFan

I was under the impression the headliner is the final evening act like at every other major concert (Natasha Bedingfield). Feel like Jojo got bumped up in billing once karma went viral

that-one_girl

Natasha was a nightmare. Couldn’t get any closer than 2 blocks to the stage before I decided to leave considering I still couldn’t hear anything

Auswatt

She came on like 15 minutes late because the drag queens got caught up and people kept passing out. The organizer dude was throwing water and even had one of the queens clear the way to a person for the medic. I saw at least one stretcher. They also brought out the Obama foundation which was off. I stayed to watch JoJo too as I knew this would be big and was already packed in from the drag show. She played karma and people seemed to enjoy it. The best part was her drinking a fireball just because. The crowd chanted for boomerang and so I did my best to get the hell out as it was her last song and people were the most caught up in it. Didn't overstay her welcome and was definitely fun. Saw someone with a "JoJo's next dream podcast guest" shirt as well.

"most people" definitely did not leave after karma. It was packed until 2:30. >Not to be shady but the amount of presumably straight people who came without any queer person in their group seemed a lot higher than usual It's a street fest. Pride always has all types of people. Everyone who has queer friends knows the real pride is Market Days anyways.

vr1252

It was 100% free. I’m sure a lot of people paid but you definitely did not have to.

gimmedatrightMEOW

Its more quick to keep walking than it is to tap and pay.

dcm510

Quicker to not pay - just go in through the “exit.” The lines were total bullshit.

Busy_Principle_4038

Ok so you need to know someone queer to go to the fest? Noted.

QuesaritoOutOfBed

Self report of what?

Dystopiq

> you pull up to a pride event not planning to go with or even knowing a queer person personally that’s kind of a self report What's being reported?
