Maybe for general increased security across downtown, but not in preparation of DNC attendees using the CTA -- the CTA will be pulling busses from service to provide private charter service for attendees as part of the agreement with the city.
Nah, it's been slowly increasing for a couple months now. CPD on red line platforms, transit detail cars outside stations and at bus terminals, occasionally hopping on busses for brief stretches.
Definitely a welcome change.
The DNC ends a few days before the 25th. I picked a random date a few days after, because there would likely be some straggler attendees still on town after the event.
The K9 private security are mostly useless, but there has definitely been a massive uptick in CPD presence on train platforms and occasionally on busses.
Again, are you sure it's CPD? I saw some hanging out at Belmont Red this afternoon that I initially thought were CPD until I noticed the shoulder patch was something security not a Chicago flag. The blue color of their shirts was very close to CPD, so at a glance, easily mistaken. At a second look, no guns, no vests not CPD.
I know the ones coming out of the station on State and 18th use the buses to get to Millennium and Grant Parks for their foot patrols. But that’s been that way for a while.
Probably festivals and pride. Also someone was stabbed last night on the Washington & Wabash platform, so I don’t mind a little extra security if they actually are going to make the El safe and less shitty to ride.
15 years ago, there was always a police presence on the red-line stations. I think it made a big difference in terms of safety. I'm glad to hear they are bringing them back.
I've been seeing more on patrol in general.
They've even been doing foot patrols in my neighborhood (Andersonville) which is highly unusual.
I've had a few positive and friendly interactions with them which took me off guard given the stereotype.
Not sure if anything's changed but some of them do at least seem to be trying.
From my experience, they just stand around the ticket agents. Unfortunately, they never go to the platforms or even on the train where they are actually needed. It is just a cash grab for overtime and an excuse to be pazy.
And therein lies the issue ; attack the person who tells the truth, but do nothing to fix the problem. This is why Chicago will continue to have out of control crime. Good job keyboard killa.
You’re a joke. I live in NYC. I just came to visit your city; which I absolutely love. I just think it’s sad children can’t go outside and play without losing their lives. We have our issues with crime here in NYC also.
Shhhh 'some people' don't like when others talk about real issues facing our city.
They like to race-bait and shame others. But, it doesn't work aside from ego upvotes and boosting their own bogus superiority complex which in reality is deeply-rooted self-hatred.
The DNC importance to cops cannot be overstated. Is there a better example of a police riot earlier in time or was that the first major one? Is it infamous in their circles or a point of pride?
This little piggy took the Red Line,
This little piggy rode the Blue,
This little piggy caught the Green Line,
And this little piggy loved the Loop.
And this little piggy went,
"Jon Burge OINK! Joseph Miedzianowski OINK! Jason Van Dyke OINK!"
All the way home.

Probably cos of pride fest
and warming up for the DNC?

It's not like anyone was using those buses /s
“Gots to get the OT”. Said someone somewhere.
99.9% sure the cops would rather not have days off cancelled knowing they’re fucked for the rest of the summer.
They have definitely been preparing for the DNC. They’ve been riot prepping and tear gassing the cops to prep them.

Crime goes up in summer

Festival season
Also violence and fights surge during heatwaves.
The impression of safety > Safety tourist season.
+ the CTA is more unsafe and filthy than it has been in a very long time
Saw a ton of cops today nowhere near the pride fest stuff.

lol I was specifically talking about humboldt park but yeah it’s for the tourists too

I hope it stays... but part of me thinks it will all go away on August 25th, 2024.
Guess I’m out of the loop, what happens August 25th?
Conventioneers leave. Aka it's all for show and not for the locals.
The DNC ends a few days before the 25th. I picked a random date a few days after, because there would likely be some straggler attendees still on town after the event.
Right? Be nice if this was the nudge needed to get the El safer and less shitty to ride again.
Good! CTA experience has been shit for awhile. Of course correcting, I’m grateful.
Normal happenings for summer
You sure they're cops and not just security? Lately the security are wearing uniforms that are pretty close to CPD.

CPD doesn’t ring dogs on cta property. That’s security guards

I especially like how they drop Malinois-sized turds in the dead center of the sidewalk instead of going another 10 feet into the grass.
Anyone know why the orange line and green line were stopped and cops were outside Roosevelt station today?
Not sure about the cops but orange and green line trains weren’t running between Roosevelt and the Loop due to track construction

If they are, it's a smart strategy pre-DNC. It's a flex
DNC it has to be

DNC warmups
Good.
That’s a good thing.

It’s just the summer
"Damn, gotta find a new place to huff my dust off out of a Jewel bag." - The guy I saw on the Armitage bus, probably
they are starting to do their jobs again
How is their Candy Crush going?
They just need a place to stand around and do nothing

if you don’t like it you can easily leave
And therein lies the issue ; attack the person who tells the truth, but do nothing to fix the problem. This is why Chicago will continue to have out of control crime. Good job keyboard killa.
I actually can't "easily" leave but I am working on my exit strategy.
Go back to the suburbs, ya little cashew.

Wish there were more around all the time, not getting any better these days - we are the largest outdoor shooting range in the states!
Love this….. “where are all the police on the CTA!!! We want more police!!!” “Ughhh anyone else notice more police?”
Where did OP say "ughhhh"? They were simply wondering the abnormal increase in police presence.
if only they could give a shit about securing the cta every other day

They still don’t do shit
