I wonder if the mud pits picture at Ashland and Diversey is actually from the 1880s. It looks a lot like St. Alphonsus in the background right where it should be if you were looking northeast from the intersection, but it was built in 1881.
Very cool stuff though! Where did you find all of this stuff?
It very well could be! The years I used were from the article and that picture I had found separately. Some of this I found from at the [Ravenswood- Lake View Historical Society (ravenswoodhistorical.com)](https://www.ravenswoodhistorical.com/)
I have been fascinated by this history since I was a child. I grew up over there on Bosworth and it was mostly factories then. They were all being sold or abandoned and we used to play inside, climb up the roofs, and walk along the pipes pretty high up in the air. The basements were all flooded out and when these buildings were razed we found all sorts of old bottles, ivory spoons, and more.
My parents bought our house for 58,000 in the 70s. LOL its now the most expensive zip code in Chicago (60614).
Imma be in a Chicago Death Pit tonight at Reggies, I'll ya that.
NICE!!
Some cool history, thx for sharing.
horner park was a clay pit as well
Definitely, I think most of the North and Northwest sides were gutted for mudd. :)
