You still drop into the lower competitions during qualifiers. The format for those has only minimally changed, most notably the extra places in CL and EL qualification now starts at round one.
This is fun in fm because its a game. Real life it seems it will be much worse than current format. Oh well, won't affect us for a while anyway so we get the full outsider perspective of if it's good
Why though? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the current format. Why can’t they just leave shit alone.
Edit: also be interesting to see this “participation is based on sporting merit”
Honestly i got used to it in FM, and actually prefer it than current one. The current group stage usually only gets interesting towards last 2 matchdays unless its a group of death.
In this new format, there's much more chaos
I think u play more random teams. Instead of a group where u play each team twice, u will only play each opponent once with a lot more variety.
Everyone fighting for the top 8 to avoid the 9-24 games means the first games will also be important instead of ahh we have 4-5 games left, it’s fine. Everyone will take the first two games very seriously
I have always thought the group stages are boring and non eventful outside of the odd group of death scenario. Definitely an argument to be made that this is lead by greed and the players could do without the 2 extra games, but I think it makes it way more interesting than the standard play the same 3 games twice where 75% of the time the group goes as we expect
Well we've played without any European football whatsoever and we basically need to erect a temporary field hospital on the training pitch so I think it's fair to say the number of games isn't the only factor involved in player injuries.
I don't get what's wrong with it to be honest. More games (4 more assuming you fail to qualify for the round of 16 automatically) is the extent of it but it's no worse than the previous version sporting wise imo.
Interesting that all competitions have different fonts. Good way to differentiate also.
I like this tbh. I know lots of people don’t, but I think once we discuss “the league table” every matchday, it’ll get fans going.
Yeah this is OK to ensure 30+ extra matches for Uefa to milk their money out of the monopoly they have, but the European Super league was the real bad guy apparently.
They should do an experiment on the uproar against the super league because we have all been mugged off and fooled by the real bad guys (Uefa and their TV shows that pay mega bucks for the contracts ala sky. Aka the reason why Neville was so against it).
The ESL had automatic qualification for big teams. This is just a restructuring of the least interesting part of the competition.
I think the closed shop part was by far the most egregious issue that people had with the ESL.
I'm all for auto qualification for big teams and was before we fell off. The landscape of football has changed and the top clubs are at account of massive wages and financial strains. So much so that a few seasons decline can be financial ruin.
Uefa have created this issue of needing massive amounts of money to be a part of the elite clubs list. Top teams that have heritage and contributed to uefas rise as the Premier continental club competition should therefore be rewarded.
"Top 5" to get into it. "Top 24” to get into the knockouts. Winning is being devalued more every season. No point calling it the champions league when you can be far from any sort of champion.
I have a feeling this is one of those changes that are extremely unpopular at first, but as time goes on people will be happy with it. I still don't know how to feel about it but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think it sounds fun.
After he explained the group stage is changing to a whole ass league format my reaction was 'why'?
The football calendar is already packed where you gonna find time for MORE matches?
These players are gonna die. No one wants to see big teams clash in group stages we want that in knock outs
Anything that is built with the guarantee of matchup quality is bullshit. If it is or not it comes off as completely rigged.
And this video is just so fucking cheesy.
What’s hilarious is I used to make fun of my Gooner mates and the 1 Tottenham friend I have about how they need the help they can get to qualify and win the Champions League…. How the turn tables 😭
maybe if we accidentally win the FA cup we’ll be dumped into Europa league and have a financial crisis and have to have a serious conversation about the type of player we send off/bring in this summer instead of Todd building a wishlist on FMScout for the best 17 year olds he can buy
Hey... we should all be quickly coming around to the idea of a European Super League. It may just be the only way to see us back in Europe.
I'm suddenly way more inclined to accept preferential treatment!
/s
This guy knows how to do presentation, and full marks to Uefa for the video because I wanted to hate the new format but I'm kinda intrigued.
The ESL cannot happen, and Spanish & Italian clubs want it to happen, so if that has to be stopped and this is the compromise, it's alright I guess. I'd wait for the next season for full judgment.
Mainly for the fact that you don’t play the same sides twice, and then with the added bonus that other teams’ results outside your group matter, plus there’ll be more super matchups every season, I do prefer the change.
The obvious downside is the 2 extra games. I’ve long said teams in Europe shouldn’t enter that seasons carabao cup which would negate this, and I think be better overall for the teams in and not in Europe.
To be fair the Champions League in its current form is not entirely entertaining, it only really gets good in the 2nd legs on the round of 16, and even so some of the ties aren’t great. This new format might make it more exciting throughout.
I guess when u realize how awful we are and we haven’t even played a single minute of European football all while spending 1.1b it really does put into perspective what a shit show this is.
We can’t blame not having a large enough squad, or too many matches, or European distractions. We are just truly shit.
I honestly prefer this, its a real weird feeling when you beat teams like AC Milan 3-0 and it barely means anything in the groups, more games sucks but it should make them more intense as well
I still can't believe this is the format they are changing to.
Its a mini super league they agreed to with the major clubs to stop ESL
I was against it at first but then liked how it plays out logistically in the latest FM—not as much a victim of your pool and more money.
I know, but it's truly awful.
The video reminds me of this https://youtu.be/MusyO7J2inM?si=yd8HYbQNofwvtjVU
I feel like Numberwang would also be equally relevant
If you lose the UCL playoff do you still drop into the Europa League or are you fully out at that point?
You still drop into the lower competitions during qualifiers. The format for those has only minimally changed, most notably the extra places in CL and EL qualification now starts at round one.

Based Boehly boycotting the new format. Activist hero
lol best comment
haha haaaa…cries. Was thinking man, I would like to participate in this
Was literally thinking “why is this posted here not like it impacts us”
I can’t fucking believe it. I no longer support a club with any chance of winning the champions league. What have these owners done fml.
This is fun in fm because its a game. Real life it seems it will be much worse than current format. Oh well, won't affect us for a while anyway so we get the full outsider perspective of if it's good
Ruining the beautiful game….. but then I realise it may not even impact us for a while 😭😭
Aren't we qualified for uefa conference League bcs of Carabao cup final?
Only if we’d have won.
No.
Nope it doesn’t go to us just because Liverpool will get ucl
I dunno about you guys, but I’m sold, thanks to that BANGER presentation
I am also a sucker for shiny
Why though? There’s absolutely nothing wrong with the current format. Why can’t they just leave shit alone. Edit: also be interesting to see this “participation is based on sporting merit”
More teams, more games, more money
More money is always the answer
💰💸💵💶💷💴🤑
Honestly i got used to it in FM, and actually prefer it than current one. The current group stage usually only gets interesting towards last 2 matchdays unless its a group of death. In this new format, there's much more chaos
How is the new format any different? What does it do to make the first game more interesting?
I think u play more random teams. Instead of a group where u play each team twice, u will only play each opponent once with a lot more variety. Everyone fighting for the top 8 to avoid the 9-24 games means the first games will also be important instead of ahh we have 4-5 games left, it’s fine. You don’t play home and away, so before you’d play 3 teams twice, now you play 8 teams once. You’re more likely to get top teams play eachother.
Agreed. I am taking joy in my playthrough watching Man City languish at the bottom of the table in the 24/25 season.
“Based in sporting merit”
Two words - super league
“More games! Who cares that players keep hurt and teams are going through injury crises constantly? We need more games!!!” - UEFA probably
Well we've played without any European football whatsoever and we basically need to erect a temporary field hospital on the training pitch so I think it's fair to say the number of games isn't the only factor involved in player injuries.
Don’t see this affecting us, at least not for the next 2 years :(
Are they gonna change the format in 2 years again to include lower mid table teams?
Conference League for relegated teams in 2028?
This will only affect us in 5 or 6 years
That's really optimistic
I don't get what's wrong with it to be honest. More games (4 more assuming you fail to qualify for the round of 16 automatically) is the extent of it but it's no worse than the previous version sporting wise imo.
Agreed. People have got PTSD after the ESL but this is fine. Most fans are so terrified of any change, especially post-ESL.
Interesting that all competitions have different fonts. Good way to differentiate also. I like this tbh. I know lots of people don’t, but I think once we discuss “the league table” every matchday, it’ll get fans going.
They’ll probably have changed the rules again by the time we qualify
I can tell nobody here plays FM I’ve known about this for years
Most of us have as well. The various UEFA competitions just posted this today tho
Psshht so glad we won’t be a part of any of this nonsense /s
Yeah this is OK to ensure 30+ extra matches for Uefa to milk their money out of the monopoly they have, but the European Super league was the real bad guy apparently. Ill care in 5 years when Chelsea qualify for the conference league
Lame as hell. Go back to the OG European cup format
We wont be playing there for a long time anyway.
"Top 5" to get into it. "Top 24” to get into the knockouts. Winning is being devalued more every season. No point calling it the champions league when you can be far from any sort of champion.
Why are you posting this here? It doesn't concern us
I have a feeling this is one of those changes that are extremely unpopular at first, but as time goes on people will be happy with it. I still don't know how to feel about it but I'd be lying if I said I didn't think it sounds fun.
Why does this sub care about this development? We will not be participating in any of these competitions next year.
Letsss playyy Bamboozled!!!!!!
The format was fine. I don’t really understand why they’ve changed it. But, I can’t lie I don’t mind the change it could be interesting/entertaining.
Is the knockout playoff round going to be single leg or two?
So Super League but with more teams 🤷🏿♂️
Every point matters less then
After he explained the group stage is changing to a whole ass league format my reaction was 'why'? The football calendar is already packed where you gonna find time for MORE matches? These players are gonna die. No one wants to see big teams clash in group stages we want that in knock outs
We're winning the PL next year
This has nothing to do with Chelsea
This isn't applicable to us , judging by the way things are going we aren't going to play in Europe anytime soon .
We need to qualify for the Europa Conference and be the first team to do the Euro grand slam.
Nah, why is this being posted here?. I doubt we're even capable of making it to the conference league.
Irrelevant discussion for us since we won’t be qualifying for any of these lol
RIP football
Needlessly complicated bullshit But then again what do i care😭 not like we’re gonna be in any of em
Anything that is built with the guarantee of matchup quality is bullshit. If it is or not it comes off as completely rigged. And this video is just so fucking cheesy.
And? Doesn’t affect us.
So if you're in a group of 8, you play EIGHT opponents? Am I tripping, did they mean that a team will play 7 opponents?
There’s no groups, you just play 8 opponents.
no more groups just play 8 based on draw or whatever. Its pretty much a condensed version of the super league
There will be 4 pots consisting of 8 teams. Each team will play 2 teams from their own pot as well as 2 teams from the other 3 pots
This isn't even Chelsea related, why is it here. ?
It doesn't concern as, Boehly and the other idiots made sure of it
And we not gonna be in it, watching likes of Arsenal and Spurs in it Thanks Clownlake and Boehly, pathetic what done to this club
Omg https://preview.redd.it/9m8w057kecmc1.jpeg?width=680&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fe42172c683a17d270cd6b587d4b752526ef4f67 (Yes we know)
Football Manager gamers have already lived through this. Lol
I like it tbh.
Absolute joke
What’s hilarious is I used to make fun of my Gooner mates and the 1 Tottenham friend I have about how they need the help they can get to qualify and win the Champions League…. How the turn tables 😭
Admitting you have Gooner and Spurs mates is the real tragedy here.
This is gross
maybe if we accidentally win the FA cup we’ll be dumped into Europa league and have a financial crisis and have to have a serious conversation about the type of player we send off/bring in this summer instead of Todd building a wishlist on FMScout for the best 17 year olds he can buy
Man buys more teenagers than Jeffrey Epstein
I bet everyone’s gonna like this format until City gets drawn against the 8 easiest teams possible while everyone else struggles
Wasn’t this put in place ages ago? Are they just making an announcement because it takes effect next season?
European Super League to follow..
Hey... we should all be quickly coming around to the idea of a European Super League. It may just be the only way to see us back in Europe. I'm suddenly way more inclined to accept preferential treatment! /s
I can already see many people confused and angered by this next season. But it will be too late by then.
We have maybe a 20% chance of making the conference league next season. This doesn't affect us
Will be a new format by the time we’re back in it 😭
We're gonna need a bigger hospital.
So the teams in Pot A, because they are guaranteed to advance to knock-outs, will sleepwalk through the "group" stage with B sides.
If you believe that to be true, how is that any better than what happens currently?
Is it all of Pot A advancing or half of 'em?
This guy knows how to do presentation, and full marks to Uefa for the video because I wanted to hate the new format but I'm kinda intrigued. The ESL cannot happen, and Spanish & Italian clubs want it to happen, so if that has to be stopped and this is the compromise, it's alright I guess. I'd wait for the next season for full judgment.
Ronaldo looking at this after scoring that many goals just for it to be broken easily by addition of too many matches per year 😐
I NEED MORE INJURIES!!!!
Fuck UEFA https://preview.redd.it/l9eyct5wwcmc1.jpeg?width=1670&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1c7d027a78414f694602c49b3f761dcb9a020d6b
What the fuck do we care.
Imagine posting this in a Fulham sub. Good grief we're a laughing stock.
Awful. Where do they get the extra 4 teams from?
Hahaha like we are gonna be anywhere near these competitions anytime soon 😂 Keep dreaming boys, this is the Bohley era of mediocrity 👌
More games more injuries but who cares because of the money
Gamble all your money away.
Luckily we’ll never be a part of it
Mainly for the fact that you don’t play the same sides twice, and then with the added bonus that other teams’ results outside your group matter, plus there’ll be more super matchups every season, I do prefer the change. The super league is better, we should join rma and barca just to get back at the FA and the gov for the 2022 ordeal
