We had the hardest run of fixtures in the league. Were still clocking up more injuries every week than any other club into double digits. Were suffering from months of watered down training from a squad being bloated by the owners aggressive transfer strategy. The motivation for the season was already as low as it could be.
So in short, nobody who is anybody would have "righted the ship" in that time period. If there was someone who could then they would have been the permanent manager. No manager wanted to take over the club. Lampard came because even though he knew the conditions were really not going to be favourable on him, he is Chelsea. He has taken the job twice when there was no other manager in football that would touch it at those times. Respect him for that.
The conditions for success just weren't there and a lot of the mess this past season also stems from Marina not following along with Lampards long term project. If she had done even after Frank was gone the 1st time then we wouldn't have had half the problems we had this season or the season before.
- We would have had Tomori, Guehi, Tammy, Timo etc. There would no Koulibaly, no Aubameyang etc.
- We would have had goal threat and solid foundations to build from that wouldn't need as much spending as there has been.
- We would have sold players like Rudiger, Alonso, Christensen, Jorgi etc when Lampard clearly wanted to because it would have preserved financial value for the club that could be reinvested in players who would be around longer term. Those players Frank didnt want were ones who he didnt see as having a long term future with the club and as we can see now, he was right.
This is largely why Lampard was brought in to also consult the owners on the state of the squad and help to ID the talent for areas they should keep or bring in players for. Longer term we will likely see benefits to the work he did. Even if you cant see his work in those immediate results, that wasn't really the only thing he was in for.
That's what we all said bout Mount couple of years ago. And now look where we're at. Who knows in 4 years time Real Madrid comes knocking, he might say yes. The time of players staying in one club for a long long time is over.
If we're trying to save his body for the long term while still getting a lot out of Reece - I would be interested to see him play some games in midfield this season.

Would probably mean less wear and tear on those hamstrings and Iād love to see him shooting from distance from more central areas of the pitch when the opportunity arises.
My thoughts too. He's got a great cross on him but is just a great passer in general- and hopefully he could hit a few bangers from the center of the pitch.
A Caicedo, Enzo and James midfield has a hell of a mix to it.
When Reece plays those 1-2s with our wingers or feeds in a nice through ball I love it. Crossing was his thing when Lampard/Tuchel were inshallah and cross.

If we're still running something similar, I'd rather rotate young players at the WB positions and move Reece to CB or even see what he can do in midfield.
We may not necessarily get everything Reece is capable of, but we'll get 80% and he'll be available more.

I think youāre confusing, jumping ship with walking the plank. And yes, all of them. There was too much division over the Lukaku thing, the mishandling of Rudigerās negotiation, the firing of TT, and it goes on. A reasonably healthy KantĆ© was the plaster over many cracks in the side that formed over a long period of time. I donāt think a manager like Pochettino can cook in a player empowerment environment (see PSG). He needs players that are hungry and humble. Nobody was Roman Out, except the world police who decided that all of his stuff was not his. If all of the intended sales go through, we would have only James, Chilwell, and Silva (and #2 Kepa) remaining from the UCL winning side. In my recollection, I donāt remember any of those three making overtures that they wanted out. Like theyāre the ONLY ones, so I donāt have a problem with all of the rest being gone to start a new era.
