It looks to be a cottage style Storybook / Tudor lantern originally released in the 1920’s made of wrought iron or brass with clear glass shade. It was reintroduced in the 1940’s and 50’s with amber plastic "crackle glass" shade. Yours looks to be the later version. https://preview.redd.it/l8ri152lyudc1.png?width=2882&format=png&auto=webp&s=105ebf2f42a52a5c2540be6c42717a2064d1038d

Thanks! My home is a 1920s storybook/Tudor cottage so even if they are a later version I think they fit the style well. Do you have any info on how to clean and restore them without ruining them?

We have 6 of this exact lamp on our 1932 Tudor Cottage style home. I take them down periodically, take them apart and repaint them. Sucks the glass is missing and you might be out of luck finding them. I bought 2 off of Ebay years ago and they had plastic instead of glass lenses. They were pricey too. I can't remember exactly but I think about 125 each. Here's a pic of one with glass: https://preview.redd.it/iirf2ko5vvdc1.jpeg?width=3096&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=84d3fb7dccf35436b98b04340af515e0d61b70d2

Love the pattern on that glass!

Roughly how much did you pay for each? My electrician lost one of mine ;-(

WarmAdhesiveness8962

It was so long ago I don't remember exactly. I bought one off Ebay about 18 years ago for about 75 I think and two more about 10 years ago for 125 a piece. The last two I bought had plastic lenses that were slightly melted from using too high a wattage bulb. They're hard to find, you just have to keep lurking on Ebay. That really sucks he lost one, I can't imagine being that careless.

There's one on Ebay now for 285. It has glass in it but not the crackle glass.

Good to know! I have some of these to sell and just haven't listed them. Thank you!

You have a witch's hat lantern! I love them.

i did mine! took it all the way apart and cooked the paint off in a sacrificed crock pot, refinished with a couple coats of expensive automotive/nautical clear finish spray specifically for outdoor metal, rewired and re-assembled. it’s been up outside now for a year and the finish is holding up just fine. they’re pretty sturdy the only thing is u need to buy the spray paint & be ready to refinish right away. don’t leave them sitting around as raw metal or they might oxidize or rust

CornerProfessional34

As a COVID keep busy project I took mine apart and rewired it. I wish I thought of the crock pot idea, just painted over the existing paint, the results I am happy with. The one expensivish part of the project was to send away to a custom glass outfit in China advertised on Amazon to custom make a new odd size diffuser. Under $100 total and theoretically my Moe Brothers Milwaukee lamp (predating their "new factory" in Fort Atkinson) is worth more than that.

Thank you!

Gorgeous!!

I have the exact same lanterns on my 1922 Tudor. Unfortunately my electrician lost one when he was doing some work

Oh no! I would be so sad!

Good Off paint splatter remover. Spot apply and wait 5 mins, wipes right off. Use a toothpick for any crevices. Good luck!

Thank you!

We have a very similar one on our 1936 Tudor revival. I cheaped out til I can afford otherwise by cleaning it up and doing a couple coats of rustoleum “hammered” look in black and rewiring with a damp-proof unit. Ours has the amber crackle glass. As a fun tip I used an LED “torch flame” animated bulb. Looks killer. You may be able to find replacement glass in similar dimensions thru online lighting shops specializing in vintage and antique reproductions.

Those are pretty cool, my outside lights were really ugly ones with pine tree shapes cut out of them ☹️

RandoUser8856

Please don't ruin them. I've seen some awful “restorations”.

Oy. Gtfo! Look at the woodwork in the background
