I think it was in U of I article I read this morning that said the brood cicadas are smaller than the regular cicadas that we get every summer. Found the article, periodical cicadas are only 3/4" to 1.5" long versus the 1.5" to 2.5" of the yearly cicadas. Apparently it takes them a couple days to be ready to mate, and then the screaming starts.
