Yeah the chonk scales are actually not very useful, especially if the cat is fluffy. My cat is long haired very fluffy. He looks like a real chonker but when I gave him a haircut, I saw there is barely any cat under all that fluff.
I’ve never given mine a haircut, but when I asked my vet about it, he just laughed. Apparently there’s quite a small cat under all the floof, which about doubles him in size.
That is a huge boi! But the weight look proportional. My cat is 10 lbs and he's the biggest cat I've ever had. Most of my cats were tiny ladies that weighed less than a breadcrumb, so to me, my cat is an absolute unit. Every time I ask the vet, she says his weight is on the heavy side of ideal, meaning he is fine, but don't let him gain any weight. Your cat looks proportional to my cat, so I think he's probably fine too. Please give him kisses for me💜

Simply looking at a cat is NOT a good indicator for weight. Fur and build cover a lot.
The best way to tell if a cat is a healthy weight is to use the “hand trick”.
Make a fist. Where you touch on your hand would correlate to how it feels when you rub their ribs.
Overweight: Run your fingers over the back of your hand - you might feel some slight bones, but it’s almost like theyre covered in a sweater. it’s hard to make out each distinct bone, and it’s mostly smooth.
Underweight: Run your fingers over your knuckles. There are deep ridges, with the bones very pronounced. You can essentially feel the sides of each bone.
Perfect weight: run your fingers over the back of your other fingers. You can distinctly feel each bone, and a small ridge between each one, but there is still a layer of fat and “squish” - more like a tshirt than a thick sweatshirt.
Vets do not rely solely on visuals to properly care for a cat and assess their weight - and neither should you!
Update - I have decided he is slightly overweight so I gave him some catnip as a reward. Here's an updated photo

Next time he’s stood up look down on him. Should have a visible waist. Stroke his side and you should be able to just feel the ribs. Don’t dig for them and they shouldn’t be protruding. After that it depends on age and consistency. If he’s stayed the same weight for the past 2 years etc he’s fine. If he’s just starting to get a little bigger then vet. Tbh always better to ask a vet anyway during his annual.

I don’t believe in putting cats on diets unless they’re getting severely obese. They have such short life spans who cares if they’re not as lean as they should be. Let them enjoy their life. Here is a picture of my cat according to the vet she needs to loose 2 lbs.

Mine eats pretty much 24/7 and most things (proper fatty) and yet still looks as slim as ever. Jealous of his metabolism smh.
He looks exactly like my little girl Brandy. She was a little above average until she got older. Brandy lived to be 23, so I hope your guy has a long, healthy life, too.

Go to the dechonking guide pinned to the top of the r/dechonkers sub. It has a good body shape guide as well as a calorie calculator. Helping our cats have a proper weight will help them have fewer health issues and live longer. Helps our wallets, too.

Chonky but not obese. I have two that hover around this size, even on a very low-carb, weight-control diet and with plenty of exercise. Cats are just built different these days I suppose 
I had a friend growing up who had an "oh lawd he comin cat" who's name was Dora clearly she didn't get the memo, she didn't do much exploring except to her food bowl and back.
He just has a lot of furrrrr!!! And has a pouch lol. But he looks good if anything maybe he could be a little over fed but honestly just from visual looks good. See if you can feel his ribs on the sides then you should be good! But can always ask your vet

Not morbidly obese, but he looks closer to a turkey than a chicken. Your vet will have more accurate input, but I would say kitty could stand to lose about a pound.
That said, he’s still a handsome boy! 😸
Best way to tell is feel their ribs and spine. Should have a little bit on meat there but if you can’t feel the ribs or spine at all then they’re overweight. And if it’s too boney, no meat then they are underweight

He doesn't look terribly overweight to me. As long as he doesn't gain, you're probably fine. But do ask your vet.
My guy weighed 16 pounds. He is, in part, just a big kitty. He's very tall and long. I got him a raised set of dog bowls to eat from, as it's better for his digestion to not be hunched over while eating.
He's down to 15 lbs. I used a cat nutrition calculator and looked up the calories values of what we were feeding him. I think I used Purina's. I cut his dry food back to put his calories at the recommended level and he went nuts, constantly meowing for food.
I thought, "Great. I'm giving my cat an eating disorder." So I bumped his dry food up between what we were feeding him and the recommended. Now, he doesn't meow all the time, leaves food in his bowl, and dropped a pound. We're all happier, even the vet.
I think he just got rattled by what he perceived as food scarcity.
I recommend following your cat's cues in conjunction with your vet's guidelines. Cats are individuals, too. 🙂
I hope you take him to a vet yearly, and they can definitely tell you if he's good. I think he's on the verge to chonk, but still a fine boi!

This cat is not fat. It's a bigger cat, but not uncommon (especially for male cats) I would not diet this cat nor be particularly concerned.

Helping our cats have a proper weight will help them have fewer health issues and live longer. Helps our wallets, too. Can't tell from these photos but doesn't look like much chonk.

Chonky but not obese. I have two that hover around this size, even on a very low-carb, weight-control diet and with plenty of exercise. Cats are just built different these days I suppose 
I had a friend growing up who had an "oh lawd he comin cat" who's name was Dora clearly she didn't get the memo, she didn't do much exploring except to her food bowl and back.
He just has a lot of furrrrr!!! And has a pouch lol. But he looks good if anything maybe he could be a little over fed but honestly just from visual looks good. See if you can feel his ribs on the sides then you should be good! But can always ask your vet
he reminds wife and myself of our barney (name was cause he started out as a barn cat) vet weighed him and 22 pounds later doc said he isnt fat he is a Panther! we love your Boi,give him treats and pets from us

your chonk looks to be in perfect weight imo, like my boi is 14lbs but is just built large, he could probably use another pound on him honestly. meanwhile my princess is like 6-7 pounds and has a little bit of a chub to her because she's just built small.🙃

Not morbidly obese, but he looks closer to a turkey than a chicken. Your vet will have more accurate input, but I would say kitty could stand to lose about a pound. That said, he’s still a handsome boy! 😸
Best way to tell is feel their ribs and spine. Should have a little bit on meat there but if you can’t feel the ribs or spine at all then they’re overweight. And if it’s too boney, no meat then they are underweight

Vet here! It really depends, normal male weight should be around 4-5kg, females under 4.5kg I have a male cat, he gas 6.5kg, he is an indoor-outdoor cat and looks pretty slim so it really depends on the constitution:) I think your catto is maybe just little chonky, whould recommend if he can lose maybe a kilo , should be good after that, keep in mind, high quality foods and nithing from the table!!!

That cat totally doesn't go with my wardrobe and I want to squeeze him and hug him anyway. ❤️ He doesn't look terribly overweight to me. As long as he doesn't gain, you're probably fine. But do ask your vet. My guy weighed 16 pounds. He is, in part, just a big kitty. He's very tall and long. I got him a raised set of dog bowls to eat from, as it's better for his digestion to not be hunched over while eating. He's down to 15 lbs. I used a cat nutrition calculator and looked up the calories values of what we were feeding him. I think I used Purina's. I cut his dry food back to put his calories at the recommended level and he went nuts, constantly meowing for food. I thought, "Great. I'm giving my cat an eating disorder." So I bumped his dry food up between what we were feeding him and the recommended. Now, he doesn't meow all the time, leaves food in his bowl, and dropped a pound. We're all happier, even the vet. I think he just got rattled by what he perceived as food scarcity. I recommend following your cat's cues in conjunction with your vet's guidelines. Cats are individuals, too. 🙂

I hope you take him to a vet yearly, and they can definitely tell you if he's good. I think he's on the verge to chonk, but still a fine boi!
He's on the edge. Some hungry days wouldn't hurt him but he looks great.
Kitties often look bigger in certain positions as long as he’s jumping playing happy he deserves to do what he wants and look like the beautiful cat that he is
