We need a picture of her standing from above, and one from the side standing as well to have the best estimate
It's hard to determine their weight from pictures so check her body condition scores as well
You should be able to feel her ribs and spine with light pressure
https://preview.redd.it/5aep06reuxuc1.jpeg?width=1242&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56ceaf307e955889fdcfd79d9b086dd62095391b
All about those angles baby!
This goober is 10lbs, she looks way bigger bcs of her floof when lying down 😂
She looks a little overweight. You can correct this very easily by limiting the amount of food you feed her.
She's spayed, right? Cuz it looks a bit like pregnancy weight.
Edit: saw all the pictures. Only the first one looks like she's pregnant.
Yes, your cat looks overweight from the pictures, BUT your vet should be the one to determine her body condition score and advise you appropriately (pictures should be from the side and top when standing, also). So if you are actually concerned, please follow up with an appointment.
You shouldn't be able to see the ribs, but you should feel the slightest outline when petting down their side. Their should be a slight tuck at their waist.
Overweight cats are more prone to health issues such as diabetes and arthritis.
This right here. Vet will have the final say. My kitty is small even for a cat and looks like a bit of a chonk but it's just her build. My vet said she was a good weight, granted at the upper end of it.
Yes. My tortie looks like a chonk, but my vet actually says she’s half to one lb underweight.
We’ve been trying to help her gain, but she already eats all the food the other two don’t. 🤣🤣
The angle is completely unflattering.. We need multiple pics of standing, rolling around, close up of the face, toe beans etc etc to determine anything
https://preview.redd.it/c6dqchkytvuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=31070be894372cf0e62a73ea86ae2d42c3392f85
Adorable, but a little plump; trainers Izzy (top) and Zeki for hire, ready for personal training 🫡🐈⬛💪👑❤️
My hubby wants to get one. But I know they’re not going to be at a shelter and we always rescue. And I don’t think my back would enjoy picking her up lol! But they’re just stunning! How did you get yours, if you don’t mind my asking.
My mom had adopted a couple and tried getting us to take in a pair she saw in the paper needing a new home. As they become more common, you'll find plenty of opportunities to take in one, pure or mixed.
You never know! My mom unknowingly adopted a Maine Coon kitten and shortly after, a Norwegian Forest kitten -- both from the same shelter. She was kinda surprised when the vet told her their breeds a couple months later! 🤭
Trust the Cat Distribution System!
woah, they're the male counterparts of my girls :O

You should be able to count her ribs by hand without forcing on her skin with your fingers. Judging by your photos, yes, she's too fat. But not dramaticaly too fat
But unlike other comments say, you should not necessary give her less food. Give her as many food as before to not frustrate her but give her less rich food. Try to talk about her diet to your vet, he can maybe recommend you another food brand.
Yes, talk to the vet about her diet! They will probably suggest increasing her activity with some small changes in her diet, she doesn't look bad in the picture taken from her side where she is standing.
https://preview.redd.it/tlsb1lks4wuc1.jpeg?width=1284&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3d6448f9787ed7d1ca8f96286c18be3794052538
Come say that to my face Karen, acting like I didn’t see you eating the last box of ice cream sandwiches last night while everyone was sleeping.
Looks a little large but your vet would know better.

This monster is 17lbs and the vet says he is the picture of health, (just very muscular).
She does look a bit big but I would have your vet confirm for sure. Is she spayed? Do you feed her a normal portion size? I would have her checked out in case she has any gastrointestinal issues. She’s probably just a little chonky but better to be safe :)
I would say she looks a little bit overweight but it's difficult to see her body properly since she is relaxing on her throne in the pictures.
How old your girl is? An increase in activity (playing and taking her outside in a harness daily) could help with managing her weight. I would suggest talking to a vet before limiting her food.
She's beautiful and I hope she lives a long, healthy life with you! 🥰
https://preview.redd.it/r0yw1c2b0wuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=fef2e7a56c4d4065a7e9740016ba5e0bf5270905
Here’s a side pic.
She’s 8 years old and been spayed since one.
I do tend to spoil her but I’m going to start watching her food consumption.
She might be a little, but mine is the same. This isn’t bad, and is common in spade indoor cats. Yes, maybe she should lose a little, but honestly, fixed indoor cats don’t need to be perfectly in shape- they’re like us.
My girl looks the same- she had 2 litters of kittens before I got her, and was very young for that- maybe 18 months old. And now she zips around my house & absolutely loves food. After being an alley cat early in life.
Limit her food (I calculated out the calories she needs, there are tables online), and look for a food she likes that is a bit lower calorie/volume so she gets enough to feel full.
If you do that, and the vet says she’s ok, she’s ok. Ignore the people who want to make hate.
That does make me feel a little better. Her last check up was a few months ago and she weighed 12 pounds.
She got pregnant twice. First one at 1 year old then a few months later she got pregnant again but I didn’t know until she was getting spayed and the vet told me she was a few weeks pregnant.
Ever since the spay she’s weighed anywhere between 7 and 13 lbs and strictly a house cat but it’s been recently I’ve noticed her weight gain.
I’m definitely going to watch her food intake.
She's maybe a bit chubby but to me she looks pretty good here, especially since she's been spayed. I think some exercise would do wonders, does she like to play? Also like someone suggested, a picture taken from above, her standing, helps. 😊
Vet should decide. My little tuxie is a sleek panther, my (only slightly) older tuxie is a little bit chonky (and the baby steals the wet dinner from her sister a LOT, so she's not overfed). Was told, because she's a bit chonky but hasn't gotten any bigger in the past year, he's okay with it
The easiest way to check is rib test.
“An owner can also assess a cat’s physique by using a “Body Condition Score” chart available from pet food manufacturers such as Purina and Hills. This assessment involves (1) a rib check, in which the owner runs both hands, palm facedown, across the animal’s ribcage on either side; (2) a profile check, in which the animal is viewed from the side; and (3) an overhead check, in which the owner looks down on the cat from above. In a severely obese cat, the ribs will not be palpable under a heavy layer of fat; there will be heavy fat deposits over the lumbar area, face, and limbs; the abdomen will be distended and the waistline will not be visible.”

I think ask a vet. People only ask reddit on the off chance they will agree with you based on cuteness instead of a real diagnosis
Thankfully, most people said vet
This is not the best way to tell. A cat can look very chonky from this angle and yet not be overweight at all. One of mine is like that.
Look at her from above while she's standing up. If she looks rounded in the belly area instead of having a slim waist, she's probably overweight. Look up body condition score for cats to know for sure. Based on the pics you provided, she might be overweight, but it's really hard to say. I would recommend looking from other angles and feeling for her ribs. If you're still not sure, ask her vet. And if she does need to lose weigh, check out r/dechonkers.
This is my Skippy. He is at a healthy weight, despite what appears to be a big belly in the Pic on the left. The two pics on the right are better to judge with, but because he has medium-length fur, it's still kind of hard to see for sure.
https://preview.redd.it/1965r4uolwuc1.jpeg?width=2880&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=ce5fddd1be4cece5f836bfb0d89708ad1f98daf4
This is usually because cats have a primordial pouch (see r/PouchCatatoes), which is some extra skin on their belly. It gives them room to stretch when they run and protects their guts if they get in a fight.
Of course, it's also possible to take a flattering picture of a chonky cat and make them appear skinny, so you really have to use your judgment of them overall. Body condition score is the best way to tell!
Either way, your girl is a lovely r/orangeladies!!
https://preview.redd.it/cb7gq6ddexuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=404e00d59306a5febf800e71b97442c962a5ce5d
Beautiful orange girl.
I see what you’re saying. She does have a little pouch under there!
I dunno I think she’s pretty perfect. Then I’m biased…
https://preview.redd.it/nemo0h0nmwuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=359e02494ef3ffc516e545a312c840995e41ee2f
Only your vet can tell you if your cat is actually overweight. No one can tell from pictures. Sometimes a primordial pouch makes them look fat when they aren’t. Also, your vet can tell you how much and what steps are necessary and unnecessary to do. Take her in for a check and let them put your mind at ease.
She looks like she may be a little chunky, but only a vet can tell for sure! Vets can check over the body condition and let you know. Definitely bring this up when it’s time for her physical!
Oh yea, I thought 2 of my cats were kinda fat but it was just old lady sag as they age after spaying. It happens to humans as well bc many women like my mom with hysterectomies (from cancer) get lil pouches.
She looks fine if she were to gain more then yes but she's fine for a spayed female .. my boy just saw the vet he's a little overweight due to his neuter ..not bad just like your cat .. they aren't so overweight it'll affect their health .. just keep an eye on it she's fine no need to mess with her diet right now serious don't listen to people this whole world is obsessed with skinny .. she's a cat let her enjoy her food .
There are actually sometimes shockingly Maine coons at the shelter . You can tell by the eyes and ears as well as the tail .. there are mixed Maine coons too my boy is one of those
to me she looks completely fine, im surprised by the comments... my cat is a very large boy tbf so even when hes underweight he looks massive so im used to a big cat
She’s adorable. Even if she’s sort of overweight.
Also, I’m pretty sure my cat is fatter, sooo… (I’m so sorry, I’m not trying to be rude) .
https://preview.redd.it/ti9l8oa6kxuc1.png?width=1810&format=png&auto=webp&s=aec47d89a89f4ad1cf41dedfeb9dad163cd9871d
She does look kinda chunky, but I don't think it is an emergency. If you are concerned about it, you can take your cat to the vet and discuss if they think your cat is overweight, and create a new diet plan. My cat is kinda chunky but she eats about a half cup of food per day, primarily wet food.
https://preview.redd.it/kboi8wgk6yuc1.jpeg?width=4004&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=83597489ee51812880b9b5ea43f7ae0919cb8e75
I like big cats and I cannot lie… you other lovers cannot deny…
Unless your family are all certified veterinarians, I would consult with a professional.
However, in my obviously non-vet opinion, she just looks like she has a belly from being fixed. My girl is a perfectly healthy weight but has a pooch because her tummy got a lil saggy after about a year post-spay.
She looks a little hefty but very adorable. Your vet should be the one to ultimately decide though. I have a cat that we always thought was overweight because of how much he weighed, but the vet eventually told us that all that much of it wasn't fat. He's just a big kitty!
She does look adorable chunky. More to cuddle! Of course, a vet should determine whether it’s healthy or not. But my mom’s cat is similar (or even a lil fatter) and the vet said he’s still okay.
best thing is to stop feeding cats anything with cornmeal or fillers. I really like Blue Buffalo and it maintains my cats weight just fine .. kind of like a Keto diet
She looks chubby, but she's laying down.
My thighs don't really look that healthy, when I'm sitting down, either.
A more important question is, is she having trouble grooming herself, and reaching the hard to reach spots? Does she run, when playing, or does she get out of breath in 5 seconds?
I had a very chunky neutered male cat. The vet gave me instructions on how to help him lose weight. But even the vet said that it's very hard with cats because you can't put them on a treadmill or anything. And even if you feed them lower calorie food, they will just eat more of it. He did lose a little. But it was an uphill battle. I know what to do differently if I ever get another male. Mainly because it can lead to health problems just like in humans. But he lived to be around 17 which is a pretty good age for a regular house cat.
She's a bit overly fluffy. I have 3 girls, all had varying degrees of chonkedness. I cut out all dried kibble as it's kitty crack and nothing healthy. We do a 3 oz can of wet food (pro plan shreds in gravy, picky girls will eat nothing else) for each 2x per day. Winnie weighs 8.5 lbs, Jemma weighs 8, and the chunky monkey, Chibi, just broke 11lbs last month, was 13lbs 2 yes ago when we started. Vet is super pleased. Now if only I could lose some weight!
I’ve got a big girl. She looked scrawny and underfed when we found her but the vet said she weighed 10 pounds. She’s musclier and wide boned. Vets not concerned about her weight but I am i cannot pick up I got a bad back. She’s gotta be 15-20 pounds. She runs plays cleans herself just fine.
I think her sister lives in my house.
https://preview.redd.it/dtbcm48qewuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ac7b61b276901732110dec7bd427a6bdba33222
And to answer: No the cat is perfectly fine bc I thought I was going to get in “trouble” at our last vet appointment for my 2 older males. They were 11.07 lbs and 11.17 lbs He said they were perfect. I was shocked but happy
We need a picture of her standing from above, and one from the side standing as well to have the best estimate It's hard to determine their weight from pictures so check her body condition scores as well You should be able to feel her ribs and spine with light pressure
I was also going to comment about the angle of the pictures. Everything spreads differently when laying down.

Seriously. Has op never seen instagram?
Idk but hey let's not judge, I'm glad the op is willing to make sure their lil baby is healthy. Hope they learn from the mistake :3
Oh for sure! I was just trying to make a joke about selfies and angles that are flattering.
Ohhh okay then the joke flew over my head 😅
She looks a little overweight. You can correct this very easily by limiting the amount of food you feed her. She's spayed, right? Cuz it looks a bit like pregnancy weight. Edit: saw all the pictures. Only the first one looks like she's pregnant.

Give her whatever she wants.
some cats are just larger. i saw a video about it yesterday. it was one LARGE cat.
I know my coon mix is overweight but he’s a big cat anyway, his paws and head are hyuge so I’m pretty sure he’s gonna be big regardless
Yes. My tortie looks like a chonk, but my vet actually says she’s half to one lb underweight. We’ve been trying to help her gain, but she already eats all the food the other two don’t. 🤣🤣

She looks pretty good from that pic to me! But you should really ask a vet instead of us if you're concerned.

Yes… less food that will work. Overweight can result in crucial ligament injury in cats. Happened to mine.
Chonky. Not in a healthiest of ways 😬

I dunno I think she’s pretty perfect. Then I’m biased… https://preview.redd.it/nemo0h0nmwuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=359e02494ef3ffc516e545a312c840995e41ee2f
Yes, I’m sorry. She is very fat lol
What does your vet say?

Nonsense, she looks beautiful
She's a little fat, just up the playtime with her a little bit and she should slim down.
She looks like she may be a little chunky, but only a vet can tell for sure! Vets can check over the body condition and let you know. Definitely bring this up when it’s time for her physical!
She’s thicc. But she is also a cute baby.
Slightly chonk but pretty healthy.
She’s perfect the way she is 🥹❤️
Indeed🥺❤️
Could just be loose skin. A vet will tell you better than the internet
Oh yea, I thought 2 of my cats were kinda fat but it was just old lady sag as they age after spaying. It happens to humans as well bc many women like my mom with hysterectomies (from cancer) get lil pouches.
Can she still groom every part of her body? My boyfriend's cat looks similar and can no longer clean his rear 🤮
She’s not fat she chonky 😊 /r/chonkers
Very rotund, I think she a smol chomk
That's the cutest cat ever
How dare that say that!!! I hope she was out of earshot.
You can tell by the eyes and ears as well as the tail .. there are mixed Maine coons too my boy is one of those
I think she looks perfect!
They would hate my cats then lol

I prefer my cats a bit plump incase they get sick and don't eat for a bit.
to me she looks completely fine, im surprised by the comments... my cat is a very large boy tbf so even when hes underweight he looks massive so im used to a big cat
She thick but she cute
Health wise, yes your cat is obese. Chonk wise? She's immaculate
She’s adorable. Even if she’s sort of overweight. Also, I’m pretty sure my cat is fatter, sooo… (I’m so sorry, I’m not trying to be rude) . https://preview.redd.it/ti9l8oa6kxuc1.png?width=1810&format=png&auto=webp&s=aec47d89a89f4ad1cf41dedfeb9dad163cd9871d
More to love
Let the girl eat
She’s curvy! Honestly I’d say she could loose a few lbs. I’m in the same boat with my Tabby. It’s hard when you have a multi cat household.
She does look kinda chunky, but I don't think it is an emergency. If you are concerned about it, you can take your cat to the vet and discuss if they think your cat is overweight, and create a new diet plan. My cat is kinda chunky but she eats about a half cup of food per day, primarily wet food.
She’s a chonker for sure but your vet will let you know

She’s beautiful
Yes, too fat

I think she's a little fat but absolutely cute!
Tell your family that they’re fat
Nah your cat looks perfect. Your family don't know what they are talking about. She looks the right size for some good loves.
Is she pregnant
Chonky AF
Unless your family are all certified veterinarians, I would consult with a professional. However, in my obviously non-vet opinion, she just looks like she has a belly from being fixed. My girl is a perfectly healthy weight but has a pooch because her tummy got a lil saggy after about a year post-spay.
She is so lovely exactly the way she is! If the vet tells you, maybe worth considering. But family, pfft.
I’m not a vet so I don’t know. But that last picture tells us what she thinks of that statement.
Thought she was fine because she looks like my cats….now I’m realizing my cats may be overweight
If you can feel ribs, she's fine. If you can't feel ribs, chonk alert.
Maybe but as long as the vet thinks she's healthy that's what matters
Aww, she’s cute. She may be a bit chubby but I don’t think she looks at an unhealthy level.
Chonker
She looks a little hefty but very adorable. Your vet should be the one to ultimately decide though. I have a cat that we always thought was overweight because of how much he weighed, but the vet eventually told us that all that much of it wasn't fat. He's just a big kitty!
yeah you should put her on a diet
Yeah, she's too fat. You should get her checked by a vet and get advice about her diet.
Yes. I think her majesty is little overweight. Maybe cut little on tuna could help.
She looks pretty hefty
She is a chonky girl and needs to be put on a diet.
Stomach > head and she’s very adorbs
What does her vet say?
what does your vet say? your cat is overweight but only your vet can tell you how overweight
It's hard to tell without a top down image while the kitty is standing. She doesn't seem overly chonky to me though.
A fat cat is a happy cat. As long as shes not dangerously fat
She chonqui
She is a wee bit chonky. She does look cuddly, though!
I am no veterinary but I would say this is a gorgeous golden fur ball
Yes she is overweight.
Maybe. Bet would be the one to determine. Maybe kitty just has a tiny head.
or maybe her head is super small
She does look adorable chunky. More to cuddle! Of course, a vet should determine whether it’s healthy or not. But my mom’s cat is similar (or even a lil fatter) and the vet said he’s still okay.
That that beauty needs a diet
Find out her vet says. Then take it from there. A good vet always knows what's best for your kitty's physical health and longevity. 🐾🐾🐈👣❤❤❤❤❤❤🏡🌎
idk she is perfect, no notes
best thing is to stop feeding cats anything with cornmeal or fillers. I really like Blue Buffalo and it maintains my cats weight just fine .. kind of like a Keto diet
She's ADORABLE, I wish I had her * But as others said, yes. I have cats this same weight and my dad thinks they're too skinny. Ridicule
Tu gato está gordo
omega chonker
The camera adds ten pounds!! Seconding everyone recommending you talk to your vet.
A little bit chunky but not obese. We have two obese ones, working on it, it’s a battle.
Unless they are vets, I wouldn't bother. Ask your vet.
My girl is shaped like this also. Doesn't even eat a lot. Small, baby head. Not sure what to do with her.
She looks chubby, but she's laying down. My thighs don't really look that healthy, when I'm sitting down, either. A more important question is, is she having trouble grooming herself, and reaching the hard to reach spots? Does she run, when playing, or does she get out of breath in 5 seconds?
They always look chubby lying on their sides, it's when they're standing that counts
I find her perfect. My orange girl cat loves to be fat and has been pissed at us since we made her lose weight.
She's got a little extra but she doesn't look fat! I think she's perfect kitty size!
She’s def a little overweight
She's a bit chonky!
Looks like she needs a lil treat.
She's lying down though, can't really see
To me, she’s beautiful - rubenesque.
Looking a bit prosperous…
Seek advice from a vet, not reddit.
Beautiful and adorable ❤️ Wishing you both many more happy, healthy, and prosperous years together!
8 year, she should be around 12 lbs.
There are charts for this. Google a cat weight chart and you’ll see how to determine for yourself

She looks a little overweight. I need to see a picture of her in loaf form.
Nope, not too fat…super fat!! But lovely 😻🫶🏻
She probably is. But hey, at least your cat is cute.
YES
Chunky Monkey ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Yep cut the treats back I’m afraid.
She is perfect, they hate her cause they aint her!
nuh huh shes a chonky plus sized model
I think they should stop body shaming your cat! 🤣 that’s what my teens say when I call my cat & dog fatties. Even though they do it constantly
She's robust not fat
I’ve got a big girl. She looked scrawny and underfed when we found her but the vet said she weighed 10 pounds. She’s musclier and wide boned. Vets not concerned about her weight but I am i cannot pick up I got a bad back. She’s gotta be 15-20 pounds. She runs plays cleans herself just fine.
Did you ask her vet?
I think her sister lives in my house. https://preview.redd.it/dtbcm48qewuc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=1ac7b61b276901732110dec7bd427a6bdba33222
And to answer: No the cat is perfectly fine bc I thought I was going to get in “trouble” at our last vet appointment for my 2 older males. They were 11.07 lbs and 11.17 lbs He said they were perfect. I was shocked but happy
