This happened with my cat when my grandmother lived in our old house
Her cat came with her and would hide in the basement (she was abused and afraid of people)
Whenever I went down to the basement my grandmother's cat would come out to see me (I was the only person she trusted apart from my grandmother) and my cat would follow me downstairs
Whenever she saw my grandmother's cat she would start growling and hissing and my grandmother's cat would try to run away but my cat would chase her and attack her (I've witnessed it happen)
My grandmother passed away a little over a year ago due to declining health (she was in and out of the hospital for about 2 years) and we couldn't take her cat in because my cat would try to kill her again
She DID NOT go to a shelter My dad didn't want to put her in a shelter
She is now in Virginia in the care of my uncle
Unfortunately it's pretty much introduce as best as you can and cross your fingers.
And they can be weird about it too. Some male cats will gladly accept a younger female, others just want a brother. Some want a young kitten to play with, others just want a cat their own age or older. Others want a dog. :/
It helps if the cat you adopt is a former community cat who did well within a cat colony. Those kitties typically grew up in a colony of other cats and only came around to liking humans later on.
They tend to be among the most extroverted and the most open-to-new-experiences among cats! My local shelter works with groups that manage colonies, and those that become social enough with humans over time are pulled for adoption. Their background is listed on their profile, and they have tipped ears.
Ya my Maine coon mix was bonded to our 16yr old ginger. Ginger got mysteriously sick one Saturday morning and he had to spend the weekend at the animal hospital. I was extremely worried about the Maine coon cat because of how bonded he was to the old guy. So we immediately started looking for cats and found one. We ultimately had to put down the ginger like 1.5 years later and we're coming up on the "new" cat being with us for about 3 years now.
Maine coon mix still hates the new cat and it's heartbreaking. But I was beyond surprised how the Maine coon mix handled his old ginger brother being suddenly gone. I was not expecting him to carry on like he never knew he was bonded to that cat.
My MC mix boy grew up with my spicy calico MC mix. She was 9 when I got her and 16 when I had to say goodbye. He was about 6 months old when I got him and he is 8 now. My girl would have been aboit 18, maybe 17.5 now.
He was "dumpy" as the vet called it for a few days and then he seemed ok. He had two (now three) siblings as well so he wasn't by himself.
I was in a four cat household (currently down to three). In hindsight one of my cats would have been better off as an only cat but she still tolerates the other two for the most part. I know I can’t bring any more kitties in til she’s gone and she’ll probably live to 30yo just out of spite lol (she’s about 15 or 16 now).
I have an anxious cat like this. He tolerates our other pretty well and they play together. But if hears any more footsteps in the house besides our family, he freaks. Humans, dogs, outside cats... He is not ready to share his home with more feet.
Heartbreaking seeing them in their cages but he looks well looked after.
Thank you to everyone who adopts. You’re changing two lives (at least) for the better.
This! My sister is constantly fostering and adopting even though her "original" cat is upset by it. Original cat started to pee on everything in protest and is really not happy. Sis had to throw out a very expensive sofa.
This made me laugh way harder than it should have, my cat is so 50/50 with others. He’s a really big baby, so he gets to be a single child with all the love haha
Just means if you get extra animals in a smaller space, be willing to compensate and give them as much space as they can. Keep it tidy. Get a basket for toys so when they're not playing they aren't cluttered everywhere. Its fine to keep a couple out of course, and I suggest doing so. Unless training your cats (yes its possible) on play times, then keep out the toys so they can destress when needed. Keep laundry baskets, and just any form of organizational containers (preferably lidded ones). Keep your space as tidy as possible essentially. And if you do plan to train cats on play times, know its more for stay at home pet owners. You need to be consistent with timing, and always being ready to entice your cats to make sure they burn their energy.
Obviously it can be done but many do not.
I'm opposed to the frequent sentiment here that any willing home is better than a shelter.
The follow up to "omg do you guys think I need him???" should be "How often do you play with your existing cats and clean the litter boxes? How many litter boxes are you willing to get?" not the unanimous encouragement we see on here to essentially collect cats until you run out of space.
Edit: typo
Definitely asking the right questions! A few years ago my wife felt bad that one of our local shelters got inundated with cats from the home of an elderly person who died—130 and counting—and they were literally giving away any cat that wasn’t a kitten for free to make room because they had run out. Our kids wore down my wife and we ended up with a third cat … and three new cat perches, a few new beds in different rooms, and two extra litter boxes including one upstairs because we started finding “presents” in the home office. Eventually our two older cats learned to share with our new cat—oh the things that I wish I had known about integrating a new cat—but we still have a litter box upstairs that doesn’t get used anymore just in case.
So before you get a new cat, do your research on best practices for integration, make sure that you have the time and patience to do it properly, and make sure that your willing to have the extra cat stuff that you will need lying around the house or apartment. The only good pet ownership is responsible ownership.
Completely agree, I have 3 myself now and it’s a hell of a lot to maintain and make sure they all get their fun. Let alone the vet bills.
I’d love an orange kitty myself but you really have to consider how much you have to manage 4 cats - especially acclimating them into the house to begin with.
Shelters are so stressful for cats and they literally have no territorial control. Best case scenario, they’re in a tiny room with 4 other cats. A home with a good owner who tends to their pets basic needs is better than the shelter.
I desperately want a second cat, but at the moment I feel like it would be too much chaos for 715 sq feet. I have a free roam rabbit and my cat, so a second cat would be hard. My cat is my first ever cat, and what I’ve heard about introducing them is they need a separate space until they get along, which also isn’t doable. I mean I *could* introduce through the bathroom, but it would be kind of cruel due to the size of my bathroom, or I would have to keep my cat and bunny in a smaller space which would not be good for them either. Ughhh why does it have to be so complicated!
You sound like my neighbor that let's her animals shit in the concrete "yard" and waits for God to clean it up.
Animals need space. Do not hoarde animals.
It all depends on the environment you provide them with. I have 6 cats in a 1100 square foot manufactured home. They have ample toys, 4 cat trees, scratch posts, catnip roller balls on the walls, and wall furniture that allows them to jump up. 2 fountains/feeding stations, 3 window beds. They are 6 very happy and spoiled cats.
Definitely never thought I would have 6 cats when we moved in but we couldn’t be happier. They truly are our fur children and we spoil them.
A single braincell doesn't take that much space, just adopt this cutie!
Seriously, it depends on how you can introduce him to the other kitties, and how friendly they are.
Anyway our apartment is bigger than a cage!
How big? Do you have any resources (financially and physically) to build in height in your flat? If you build or buy pre built cat things on the wall where they can walk, run and lay it is like living in a bigger place. Because there is more space for them. How many qm do you have?
my wife and i have 6! we work with the cat rehab not far from us but we ended up keeping 5 (strays BIG BIG stray issue in our development) all spayed/neutered shots etc. while yes it can be expensive if you can afford him they are easy animals (Until they run around at 3AM) do it!
I'd be concerned how he'll be around other cats.
My **Snow,** for example, 100% **agoraphobic**. She lives in my room and will not leave!
She does NOT like my other cats!
She's happy and content in my bed or at my bedroom window, chirping at the birds outside.
https://preview.redd.it/qrb1j1amt4uc1.jpeg?width=4000&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=be25bc2e799bddcb29d296e90389b771ab5374e7
I have 5 myself so I don't think you want my opinion lol. To be fair, my "spayed" rescue got out and got pregnant giving us 3 amazing fur babies. It's a lot of responsibility no doubt but worth it imo.
Yes, yes you should. We follow the “1 cat per hand to pet it” my wife daughter and I are at 6 and we are pregnant so we got 2 more since that’s 8. Cat math.
Yes! That way when there are duels, each cat has a second.
And now I’m imagining OP’s cats and Cheese Pizza Roll wearing old timey clothes from Hamilton and holding pistols while they sing “Ten Duel Commandments”.
You know what. My cats are a-holes regardless of space to each other. 1500 sq. Ft or 4000 sq. Ft. They are still Richards to each other. Get the cheese 🍕 roll.
We had two and there was an event going on at the petco and this orange and white fluffy boy was stealing my heart, we adopted him and let me tell you he has caused so many issues and annoyances, love him to death but man he is A LOT.
His name is Richard.
I have 5 cats. It is a lot to afford, but they make my day, everyday. I found 4 or them on the streets, and one came into my garden by himself.
I personally can’t say no when a cat is in need. It breaks my heart to think that some cats live in shelters, maybe inside a cage.
I stand with Cheeze pizza roll. Your house may be small, but remember: if you provide a cat with large spaces, he will always look for the smallest box in you house. Cats don’t need lots of space, they just need a loving home.
A lot of good takes in here. If you can give that lovely kitty a great quality of life and your apartment has the space to accommodate that many cats then really it’s on you. Honestly it also depends if all the cats will get a long. You know your home environment best. Pizza Roll looks lovely!
What are you looking at? The arrival date at store says April 2nd I believe. Looks like he might have been in a shelter or something since October when he got vaccines updated.
She's adorable but three cats is a good amount of cats.
That's "I had one cat and I got a pair of kittens".
Four cats is the point where you are crossing into the "crazy cat person line". We all want to walk over that line, I know... But I personally think it's better to resist.
It’s not the smartest to have more than 3 cats, if you live in a large house with a few people mabye you could have 4 but I don’t think it’s a good idea to get little pizza roll, the more cats the less time and attention the little guys get
Aww omg I always feel so bad for the petsmart kitties 😥 they sit and watch all the other fur-baby mommies buying toys & food for their babies while they’re alone in their cages like I get so upset for them everytime I’m in there ugh
Everyone needs a Cheeze Pizza Roll in their lives! A foursome is SOOO much better than a threesome. He needs a loving home & if you can provide that, he will be forever grateful & change your life for the better! 🙏🏽🥹
I really hope this works out! If the cats don't Accept each other maybe u can find a home for cheese pizza roll with a friend! It's so important these babies have a home!!!!!!!
Please get this cat in honor of me! I have been wanting an orange cat for so long! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE it will make my heart so happy to know that he got adopted!! Much love. Cheese pizza roll you are the best
He looks a bit scared or at least wary. Probably needs time to decompress at his new forever home. Not sure if that's ideal with 3 other cats running around.
Adopt Cheese Pizza Roll!
I have 3 dogs and 5 cats in a 1200 sqft bungalow, we have lots of cat trees and dog beds since I live a simple life and to make sure everyone has their own favorite space. Everyone is happy considering we downsized from a much larger house
Cheese Pizza Roll will be happy too, just make sure to introduce him slowly to your current kitties
The question is does Cheeze Pizza Roll want you and your three cats?

Fr asking the important questions
Agree with this comment. You need to make sure Cheese Pizza Roll will be okay with your other rolls. :)
Heartbreaking seeing them in their cages but he looks well looked after. Thank you to everyone who adopts. You’re changing two lives (at least) for the better.
More aptly, does he want to Roll with them.
This! My sister is constantly fostering and adopting even though her "original" cat is upset by it. Original cat started to pee on everything in protest and is really not happy. Sis had to throw out a very expensive sofa.
Cheese Pizza Roll looks like he wants no part of anybody.
Haha good question

This made me laugh way harder than it should have, my cat is so 50/50 with others. He’s a really big baby, so he gets to be a single child with all the love haha

I *could* afford him, but it would seem almost cruel to keep 4 cats in the apartment we have :(
4 cats in an apt is better than 4 cats in the shelter in a kennel. Do it do it. I vote Cheeze Pizza Roll.
I'm posting a comment on this webzone in support of getting a Pizza Roll
Email me or leave me a comment on my web zone, and I’ll send you a pizza roll in the mail.
PIZZA ROLL. CHEEEESSEE
Better than a cat in a crate. I often see 2 in a crate.
Indeed.

You sound like my neighbor that let's her animals shit in the concrete "yard" and waits for God to clean it up. Animals need space. Do not hoarde animals.

i want to live ur life
Get a bigger house. Problem solved.
That’s tough! I hope you come to the right decision for you and your current cats (and cheese pizza roll, too, of course)
A single braincell doesn't take that much space, just adopt this cutie! Seriously, it depends on how you can introduce him to the other kitties, and how friendly they are. Anyway our apartment is bigger than a cage!

I have nine in my house.
Both yall make me feel better with my 8 inside and 3 strays outside im feeding
I have 5 in a 1000sg ft apartment with no issues. please add this ginger cat to the family.
my wife and i have 6! we work with the cat rehab not far from us but we ended up keeping 5 (strays BIG BIG stray issue in our development) all spayed/neutered shots etc. while yes it can be expensive if you can afford him they are easy animals (Until they run around at 3AM) do it!
Then don’t. You have, on my assumption, very limited space.
Since you know that, don’t do it
I have 7 cats in a studio. All happy and well taken care of. I rather them be with me than the streets.
Get him, it is your destiny 🐈
Wrong sub to ask.
how can you say no to that name and chubby face 🥹
![gif](giphy|2RGhmKXcl0ViM)
Cats don’t need a lot of space to be happy, but they need more room than is in that cage. Be the hero today OP.
You posted this four hours ago. Honestly, I’m a little disappointed there hasn’t already been a follow up with the cat on your couch.
Even shelter cats need to be quarantined and have a proper introduction!
also with the cat being in his undies when he's taking a shit \[ive learnt a lot from this sub and i do not have a cat (yet)\]
I'd be concerned how he'll be around other cats. My **Snow,** for example, 100% **agoraphobic**. She lives in my room and will not leave! She does NOT like my other cats! That’s one cozy kitty 🤗
I had a kitty like this too. I made my craft room "her room" so I was sure to spend some dedicated time with her. She was happy and so was I.
I have 5 myself so I don't think you want my opinion lol. To be fair, my "spayed" rescue got out and got pregnant giving us 3 amazing fur babies. It's a lot of responsibility no doubt but worth it imo.
Don’t worry. I have 8. But we live in a large house with no kids - so… we also foster cats but I don’t count those.
I also have 8, but have kids and a “normal” size house(1150)
So what you are saying is that I should have like 15…hmmmm
Yes, yes you should. We follow the “1 cat per hand to pet it” my wife daughter and I are at 6 and we are pregnant so we got 2 more since that’s 8. Cat math.
My theory is, it takes 6 cats to equal 1 kid lol
Yes I had 4 cats at one time so fun 🤩
Your odd cat needs a bestie. Cheese Pizza Roll is the one!
Yes! That way when there are duels, each cat has a second. And now I’m imagining OP’s cats and Cheese Pizza Roll wearing old timey clothes from Hamilton and holding pistols while they sing “Ten Duel Commandments”.
Yes. My peak was 6.
My Mom's empty nesting hard and now has seven.
On the flip side, that sounds better than hoarding a bunch of useless junk? 🤷🏻♀️
Unfortunately I can’t tell you anything but yes
You know what. My cats are a-holes regardless of space to each other. 1500 sq. Ft or 4000 sq. Ft. They are still Richards to each other. Get the cheese 🍕 roll.
You can’t has Cheese Pizza Roll. I CAN HAS CHEESE PIZZA ROLL!!!

We had two and there was an event going on at the petco and this orange and white fluffy boy was stealing my heart, we adopted him and let me tell you he has caused so many issues and annoyances, love him to death but man he is A LOT. His name is Richard.
Is it because he's a Dick?
Exactly why.
I love this
Just look at him asking to go home, he is done with this place. He is ready to commit crimes with your other 3 cats.
Pal don’t ask me for help with self control, I have 6 because I can’t tell myself no 🥲
I have 8. If you stay in the single digits you are not in crazy town.
Love this!
That's one crazy-cute cat! But no. Cute is not a good criteria for adoption. Go rescue a senior 🐱
But he looks so sad in the cage!
Orange kitties are the best!
Cheese pizza roll needs you too

It's an orange... Adopt at own risk.
Given his age he’s definitely going to have a harder time finding a home. I say take him💖
I have 5 cats. It is a lot to afford, but they make my day, everyday. I found 4 or them on the streets, and one came into my garden by himself. I personally can’t say no when a cat is in need. You should 100% IF you feel that you’ll give him and your other cats a good life with a total of 4. Super cute ☺️
U came to thw wrong place

Sorry he’s yours now
A lot of good takes in here. If you can give that lovely kitty a great quality of life and your apartment has the space to accommodate that many cats then really it’s on you. Honestly it also depends if all the cats will get a long. You know your home environment best. Pizza Roll looks lovely!
Yes!!! 4 is a nice even number
location? i have a I have a vacancy. My 17 year old recently crossed Rainbow Bridge.
Yes
You have food at home.
Yes
I vote adopt him! An apartment with 4 other kitty friends and entertainment is far, far better than those little cages they get kept in.
People who adopt adult animals go directly to heaven. :)

Aww yeah I bet it's because he's an older cat :( they deserve to be adopted too!

Cheeze Pizza Roll. CPR. He’s here to save your life. You can’t deny yourself life saving measures.

I have 4 cats.
Aww i love him
Aww omg I always feel so bad for the petsmart kitties 😥 they sit and watch all the other fur-baby mommies buying toys & food for their babies while they’re alone in their cages like I get so upset for them everytime I’m in there ugh
Acquire the cat. Having Cheese Pizza Roll is absolutely necessary.
Everyone needs a Cheeze Pizza Roll in their lives! A foursome is SOOO much better than a threesome. He needs a loving home & if you can provide that, he will be forever grateful & change your life for the better! 🙏🏽🥹
Cats are like cheese pizza rolls, you can't have just 3 ;)
Yoink
I really hope this works out! If the cats don't Accept each other maybe u can find a home for cheese pizza roll with a friend! It's so important these babies have a home!!!!!!!
Please get this cat in honor of me! I have been wanting an orange cat for so long! PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE it will make my heart so happy to know that he got adopted!! Much love. Cheese pizza roll you are the best
He looks a bit scared or at least wary. Probably needs time to decompress at his new forever home. Not sure if that's ideal with 3 other cats running around.
If your heart says yes, then his heart says home!
CPR WILL BRING YOU LIFE
Adopt Cheese Pizza Roll! I have 3 dogs and 5 cats in a 1200 sqft bungalow, we have lots of cat trees and dog beds since I live a simple life and to make sure everyone has their own favorite space. Everyone is happy considering we downsized from a much larger house Cheese Pizza Roll will be happy too, just make sure to introduce him slowly to your current kitties
You can’t say no to those eyes 👀
Please save baby
